If he could do more I'm sure he would it's just these videos require a lot of editing and writing and he also does a CLS prime vid every week, fireside chats and soon to be a second podcast as well as managing his patreon. He's doing about as much as he can do for 1 person. The good news is it seems like his new podcast will be more nerdy than the fireside chats interview show so I'm sure there will be far more game talk on that.

Geoffrey Smart it's the last episode about harassment within the games journalism circles. A guy who is out to take Colin down via Twitter was in the forefront.
It also caused a whole out lash/Dog pile in the industry. Including a few of his Ex Co workers (Ex KF n IGN peeps) calling Colin a bully for calling out his Twitter stalker because fan reaction. Unless he lays down and let's people walk all over him he can do no rite. 😅
Basically kallie plagge called out Colin on Twitter about his video and how he has “white male privilege” that somehow makes him God and then a bunch of San Francisco sjw’s went against Colin too

Colin, this was great. I found you during the Bloodstained Kickstarter and have followed you ever since. Lords of Shadow and Konami have killed any future hope in my heart for my most beloved franchise. IGA making Bloodstained is where that legacy will survive for me. You were greatly involved in Bloodstained's start, and I hope you will be part of its launch late this year or early next year. I'm highly involved with the Bloodstained community. If you want to talk with 505 or ArtPlay I can hook you up! Hell I'm sure Ben Judd would hook you up. I doubt you even need any kind of hook up, I just want to see you teaming up with IGA again to honor the legacy of Castlevania by its new bloodline.

I was going to bring up the same thing with Bloodstained. I know I had heard his name before, probably due to him working at IGN, but the first time I ever really had seen him was on that Bloodstained kickstater livestream. Come to find out a little later he had a lot of the same opinions on things as me and that he was probably the only games journalism person I had ever seen that wasn't an ultra liberal. Not that I agree with all his views, for example, when the Nintendo Switch was revealed I was surprised he was so upset/negative about it because I knew then it was a revolution in gaming. Also, because like me, he was a huge PS Vita fan.

Colin, when your Mirror of Fate review dropped, I couldn't believe the score. I played the game, thought it was decent, and thought your expectations were out of check from SOTN and the DS titles.
I played it again a few months ago, I was so wrong. That game is terrible. Colin was right.

It's the only 2d perspective Castlevania game I couldn't finish. I've completed literally all Castlevania games except that one. Such a waste, eh?
Well I mean a game like that would age terribly years later especially without its initial impact, of which was deserving of a better score. You were right, he was wrong.
My main problem with that game was that the combat was literally just the same combat system from LoS but in 2D. It should have had that 2D hack n slash feel that all Metroidvania games have. Other than that it was a decent 6-7/10 game.

This is the kind of stuff I love. Another thing I wish you would do is that every time you were on Kinda Funny or even Beyond and you would say "well I'm not sure if we can talk about that", it would be nice if you could reveal how you came about behind the scenes info. Basically, explain to us what you knew at a certain time and how. And basically how things changed over time. Keep up the great work!

Great episode, man! I wish I could say I was surprised by the pettiness that Konami and one of their higher-ups were willing to stoop to, but I'm honestly not. It sucks, because I really love a lot of Konami IPs, MGS, Silent Hill, etc. But it's not like they're doing good anything with those series anyway.

I liked the Mirror of Fate game on 3DS way more than your 4.7 review would have led me to believe; heck I even enjoyed it more than Lords of Shadow 2; but man, that Dave Cox dude sure acted childish and Konami let him.
Just waiting for all the shit to blow out of the pipes at Konami so we know more stories like this, specially regarding the Hideo Kojima issue.

In all fairness the first Castlevania was the most beautiful thing we have ever seen so far at that point when it came out. The gameplay was better than any God Of War of the era, and it even resembled a game as legendary as Shadow Of The Colossus. The only criticism of that game is that at the time it felt too modern. We fans were still craving more Lament Of Innocence type of Castlevania, which we eventually obtained through From Software, it just was called Bloodborne instead of Castlevania.
About Lords Of Shadow 2 the gameplay went down significantly, at that point all that was important for the studio was making an impactful story, which they did, but story has never been that important in video games, gameplay will always be king and that's why Lords Of Shadow 2 received a lower reception. Also it is interesting to mention that even though the studio wasn't Japanese, but from Spain, the first Lord Of Shadow had Kojima involved and Igarashi himself said he liked the game. I feel Daemon was led by his fan emotions to give such a bad review, which is understandable for a fan, but not for a professional reviewer. We all make mistakes though. He has been very professional before and after, so it is not a big deal. At the end people can recognize when something is more than just good and the Metascore reflects that.

I'm sure there are great people that work at Konami, but that company seems like they handle their business awfully. I thought maybe I was just a biased Metal Gear fan being hard on them because of the Kojima/Konami situation, but after hearing this it seems like they're just assholes. Great video as always!

Given how many epic fails IGN succumbed to the past years and how obvious it is when their reviewers barely bother with game, when they are sponsored by a company, or just don't assign the right editor to a game (like giving a Madden playing dude a Football Manager game) I kind of see how Konami would be skeptical of a review from them.
This was rather impressive. More anecdotes would definitely be welcome.

Story times are the best, It is sad to see konami going from one of the most respected gaming companies (early 2000's) to one of the most trown to the drain companies of all gaming time, and you as a journalist were there first class seat.

Now that is one hell of a story..... an shame it ruined a fun game, not a great game but a fun one, least it was for myself and those i play with.
I remember being upset by the Mirror of Fate review because it was a game I was really looking forward too. Of course after actually playing it a 4.7 might have been generous. Terrible game.

Awesome video very insightful! You can judge if this would ultimately be a waste of your time/talent but I think it would be great for someone like you on the outside now of a site like IGN and a big UA-cam channel like KF to talk about the accusations of getting paid for reviews/moneyhats, etc. I feel like someone like you would get as close as anyone to putting that silliness to bed (or shining some light on it if there actually is any to be shined)
As a huge fan of Lords of Shadow, I too, was unhappy with Daemon’s score of 7.5 but metacritic got it right as an 8.5 is probably more accurate of the game’s quality. However, this butt-hurt grudge by Cox was silly especially when Colin, who on multiple occasions, trumpeted the game’s quality and appeal on Beyond. Ah well, just another fading memory of a once great video game company.
If game fans can't trust the reviews to be free from Corporate manipulation, the industry will crumble. Good for IGN to not yield to this kind of insidious pressure. Great story.

let it be known that _Lords of Shadow 2_ is the best Castlevania created so far........ at least to my eyes.
Dracula as the main playable character, in a Castlevania game, hasn't been done before.
There's a lot of stuff to be done to make this game even better, but instead of that, I appreciate this Castlevania for what it is and I realized that is the best Dracula movie (interactive movie, that is) that I've watched in a very long time. The other is that ancient one from the 90s. with the Bram Stocker dude's name in the title.
Right IGN always pairs their people with the right game... like the time you guys put someone who doesn't play soccer management sims on Football manager and he gave it a low score.. there are probably more examples but that's the big one that sticks out to me
Yea I agree, a lot of times they do but a lot of times they don't, or they put fans of a franchise that wants the new game to be a certain way that's different from what it's trying to be.

Im not very surprised as It seems like Konami has a hard time working with other people. They even had problems with Kojima productions, secretly removing his name from the metal gear franchise and canceling the Silent Hill P.T and completely removing it from the online stores
