This song is just a fantastic piece of work. It was apparently enjoying a resurgence in popularity in the latter months of 1991, at least in the Washington DC area. I moved from Denver to Washington DC in August and heard it daily on the radio in the Washington area for awhile. That was the first time I had ever heard the song.
Oh my gosh!!! Thank you so much for putting this song on and for the names of the girls...my daughter used to sing this song and A Slow Boat to China when she was just 4 years old and she remembers it to this day. We often wondered what happened to these girls. How wonderful to hear they are still performing together. Thank you for the memories and God Bless you in all your endeavors!!
I read the video info, and I thank you for putting it there. I was 23 then, hoping and believing the words of this song would come true for myself and the girl i was with. The song left the charts, the group was never heard of again, and our relationship was history not too long after. Songs like this just don't come around now.
Thank you for posting! Had just been assigned to the area and first heard it in May 1986 on a station in Bahrain. Spouse special ordered in 45rpm. Never heard of the group before or since, but these are truly gifted angels.
Yet another great song from my childhood that I'll always hold dear! This is one of the songs I always enjoyed hearing when I was listening to one of my old tapes while my parents and I were driving through Paradise and Lancaster, PA. A couple other songs on that tape that take me back to that very same time and place: "True Love" by Don Williams and "He Was On To Somethin' (So He Made You)," by Ricky Skaggs.
I can agree with this song 100%. I've been common law remarried to the same man for ten years. I've also got a 3 month old baby girl named Cherish Ambrosia Slanker
I loved this song so much when i was 25. The melody and harmonies are so beautiful. I am so thrilled to finally find it again after all these years. Now I must somehow find a way to buy the cassette! Any suggestions?
I still have the original cassette but afraid to play it alot, its wearing out & until now, couldn't find any of these songs on the internet.. If anyone has the cassette & knows how to put alot more of there bigger songs on here do it please !! There's one more big song missing.. Slow boat to China, Walk me in the rain, this one playing & there's one couple more big ones but one more actual big song made it big.
It would be nice if someone would just upload the whole LP. because there's songs on there that weren't released that are just as good as the ones that were.
MTM Records was indeed owned by Mary Tyler Moore and lasted 4 yrs.......1984-88. Holly Dunn (since passed away) was the other big star on her label. I've managed to find all of Holly's MTM recordings but the two by The Girls Next Door are super rare. I said above in reply to Pete Marshall's comment that I'd love to see all three albums re-released as an anthology. MTM went belly up in 1988 and was purchased by RCA that year. This is from Wikipedia: The Girls Next Door signed with Atlantic Records, but their MTM hits are still owned by RCA.
they had 3 albums. their debut album. their 2nd album was What a girl next door could do. and their 3rd album ( which was by critics their best) How bout us.
I would love to get a CD. I found an old cassette tape I had recorded from a TV special. Also, are there any videos of their performances? Thanks, Dale.
God this. Brings back beautiful memories, That old ranch house on turner drive , & all of the memories we remember , when we were very young young
A family friend when young used to have a wall clock that ticked this exact tempo. Whenever i was over there it would remind me of this song.
i dont have a words....this song it was and (still) one of the best country songs (for me)of the 80s indide on the top 20 in billboard chart
Diane is my daughters music teacher here in middle Tennessee. Nice lady

I still have this album on cassette. Haven't listened to this song in so long

Reminds me of when I was a kid. 💕
It always takes me back to my childhood, too! I'll always love this song.

Takes me back! Nice
This was one of my favorite songs in 8th grade.

I beg to differ
PARADISE7670 they did a very good remake of "All I Have to do is Dream". My brother liked the group.
They had a very short career 1986-1991. 3 albums 2 on MTM and 1 for Atlantic.
And I'd love to see all three albums re-released as an anthology.
i love them girls
When will they release new songs? Where can I find this set of songs? I have never forgotten "Slow Boat"!!!!
Nice song. In other news, I never knew MTM had a record label. Thought they were just TV distributers.
MTM if 'm not mistaken stood for Mary Tyler Moore.. I heard it was her lablel. Lasted only 2 years I think.

I would love a copy. I thought they had 2 albums. Would like both
One of my brothers had their music.
They did a concert in 2011. That was it for TGND.
Does anyone know their names? Where are they now?? So GOOD!!!! I even looked on Oldies.com for their music.
Whoever posted this song, thanks. But maybe you could post "I can't Hear It On The Radio?" If that's the right title, by these girls. Love that song.
Their Debut album was never released on CD just on Vinyl and Cassette.

Where do I get the CD? I love this song and would like to hear more.
