I love this song. I'm a 19 year old single mother to a gorgeous little girl. I've spent many nights up alone with her, then got her to sleep and still stayed up cleaning. You do what you have to do, and you do it out of PURE LOVE!!!! I might be a young single mom but with what God has given me to work with, I think I do pretty damn good!! I go to school and work and still care for my daughter while her father does God knows what every night, but I'd rather it was this way tbh. I love you Buggy
1986 was a great for country music songs like this one made it great! 2023 doesn't offer very many good songs like this one wonder was S-K-O are up to these days?
S-K-O peaked at #9 in November 1986 on the Billboard country singles chart with this classic. This should have hit #1. I used to hear this one on the radio everyday in the late summer to fall of 1986. I know Paul Overstreet left the band in 1987 to return to a solo career and was replaced by Craig Bickhardt. Paul Overstreet had a successful solo career, scoring 3 #1 country hits as a recording artist with multiple hits as a songwriter, including "Forever And Ever Amen" and "A Long Line Of Love" to name a few. Paul Overstreet also shared a #1 hit with Paul Davis and Tanya Tucker on 2-27-1988 with "I Won't Take Less Than Your Love", which he also co-wrote.
I agree. I thought this was going to be a #1 Billboard country hit when I first heard it. I heard this classic all through the early fall of 1986 and peaked at #9. Their follow up would manage to get to #1 "Baby's Got A New Baby" with Fred Knoblock singing lead vocals.
My husband tossed all my old vinyl records without even asking if there was anything there I wanted (we hadn't used the turntable in years.) Yes, this song was on one of those albums. Thank you for this.
I have been looking for this song for over twenty years never could remember who sung it. i looked 7 years on line there was nothing. i was 13 when i heard it the first time. i am 39 now i cried when i heard it today. thank you for posting it. thank you.
Oh the memories this song brings to me. In 1986, I was a 22 yrs old, unmarried, pregnant and scared to death young woman. This song really hit home for me. I cried almost every time I heard it - but I loved it anyway. My son will be 24 this year. I've been looking for this song for years & I'm so glad to have found it here at least. Maybe someday I'll be able to purchase a download of it.
I remember this song from my childhood. S-K-O (and later S-K-B) didn't last long, but they had a number of great songs. Quality over quantity for sure.
@lcrow4978 God Bless you. Thank you for your strength and your perseverance. I heard this the first time in about 1988, when my Alarm, set to WBAP820 AM, went off at 6 AM. I lay in bed waking up slowly, and listened. It was a great song then, and is now.
Memory from my teenage years pregnant with my first daughter Amanda Marie. Michael (her Dad) ran away too, but I ended up losing her at 5 months, Michael came around a couple of years later wanting to see his daughter. It messed him up when I told him she passed away,..he's had a drinking problem ever since. I know he lives with regret. My Amanda Marie 😢 I hope to see her again someday. 😢💔
No easy answers as to why things happen the way they do, you just have to keep the faith that someday when we are with the Lord, it will all be explained to us
I first heard this country classic on Sunday August 3, 1986, while in my Father's Cadillac after he bought chicken from Pollo Loco. I was 14 and ready to start High School at the time. I thought this song would go #1, but reached #9 on the Billboard country singles chart in the Fall of 1986.
I was 18, with a little boy, all alone when this song came out. 36 years later, I'm sitting here crying, remembering this song. It got me through a lot during that time, praying for the happy ending she got. I didn't get my happy ending until 2 years ago.
The first time I heard this was in about 1988 on WBAP in Dallas Texas. I looked for it for a long time, but SKO had broken up and Paul Overstreet was not yet writing for himself. I finally found a copy of this album, and sill have it, all these years later. I hate the "fadeout" at the end... it's a sign of a weakly written song... but the song is powerful and I love it. Thank you so much for posting.
This song reminded me of one of my best friends when it was out. We were both in high school and she got pregnant. It was not a good situation but she went on to successfully raise the child against such odds. Great song ! Thanks for sharing. Wish it was on iTunes but it’s not.
Thanks god, I could lesson to songs like that when I lessoned to Bob Kingsleys weekly American Country Countdown from American Forces Radio Berlin, Germany, because I grow up in the former East !!!! -Berlin
I do love this album !! I only have these songs in an old tape.............just remembering the word "tape" makes me think I´m getting older.... Thanks for this.
from the very first moment (many years ago) when listening to this amazing songi Ifelt that the bewitching .... i did not get tired of it for me is as fresh as the first time i heard it i have such beautiful memories of her the Year.S.k.O it was one of the best country group for awesome 80s!
KSMusicGeeks: Thank you so much for posting this song (and the other three) from the S-K-O album. I had looked for this song everywhere since I hard it on the radio back in late 1986/early 1987...I LOVE Paul Overstreet's songwriting and singing! It has always been a special song for me, and I'm so glad to have found it here (it still gives me goosebumps when I hear it)!
zeke...Here's your answer, from Wikipedia: Thom Schuyler, Fred Knobloch and Paul Overstreet were well-known songwriters who formed a group in 1986. Overstreet left in 1987 for a solo career, and was replaced by Craig Bickhardt. They changed their name to Schuyler, Knobloch & Bickhardt, and disbanded when their record label, MTM Records, shut down in 1989. Thom Schuyler became the vice president of RCA Nashville, retiring in 1994. Knobloch and Bickhardt continued their songwriting careers.
Another song that really takes me back! I remember always liking it throughout my early childhood. It was still getting recurrent airplay around early 1993, as I have it on a tape I recorded then. I really miss beautiful songs that told great stories like this. I've always liked those falsetto background vocals near the end, too!
The fade out was invented for radio...most disc jockeys wouldn't play a song over 3:00 mins and it gave them a chance to talk between songs with no dead air...sometimes it was done in the recording process to drive home the melodic hook of the title like it does here.
I am so glad you posted this! I have been looking for this song for SO long! It is now on my playlist here and I just wish I could find the mp3 to download!!!
Great song! For all of us who have lost loved ones. Life goes that fast and we will see them again that soon! Hello type in "Ron Howard Palace" listen to Opie sing "Lady"! Also type "Ron Howard cover" listen to "The Dance"! 1
Sorry, I ment to write, "hear" instead of, "lear". Those out there in that year, or anyone just getting started in life will relate to this. Jesus Bless you on your journey.

❤❤ so beautiful ❤❤
Paul Overstreet still lives on the farm he bought in the mid 80s and watches a lot of baseball.
1986 was a great for country music songs like this one made it great! 2023 doesn't offer very many good songs like this one wonder was S-K-O are up to these days?
They split up not long after this album. Overstret went on his own way
@@BradleyRudi I remember the split they had such a great sound!

should've been #1 for the whole year. such a great song.

Never knew this even existed! Thanks for sharing! Talent overload!
They had creative differences and broke up. Had this on a cassette. Wore it out. Had 5 splices. Only found on UA-cam.
This song was a great 80s song !!!!!
What happened to this trio of outstanding musical talent, I just found them very good to harmonize like those groups of the early 60's very rare.
My husband tossed all my old vinyl records without even asking if there was anything there I wanted (we hadn't used the turntable in years.) Yes, this song was on one of those albums. Thank you for this.
I'd made him chase it down . So sorry you lost this diamond 💎
I have been looking for this song for over twenty years never could remember who sung it. i looked 7 years on line there was nothing. i was 13 when i heard it the first time. i am 39 now i cried when i heard it today. thank you for posting it. thank you.
I never forgot who sang it but it just wasn't on you tube. I searched for years.
Same here but I was 19 and just married

I’m exactly the same age!

LOVE the fade-out of this song - You can try but you just can't stop it You can try but you're never gonna stop it!
Love this song; brings back memories from my teenage years, when they used to play real country music on the radio.
This is the best county music ever!!
Where is the writing talent like Paul Overstreet today? Great song.
Unfortunately I think there all 6 Foot underground. Sad.. Music like this is gone
Memory from my teenage years pregnant with my first daughter Amanda Marie. this song was not here a couple years ago when i search for it with my wife. glad you posted it
Nerd alert: I first recall hearing this song on August 2, 1986. I was 9 before turning 10.
Why stop there? Classic 80s production: heavy kick on 1 and 3, chorused apeggiated electric guitars, fat snare, and Yamaha DX7

Great song,
one of the best songs ever written.
Agreed. These three are premier songwriters and performers, hands down.

Totally agree! Both this song and "Baby's Got A New Baby" need to be on Spotify, especially. Also "Givers And Takers" when they became S-K-B.

great song
@PTCello I found it!! :-) The harmony is beautiful. It's familiar to me, and thanks for reminding me of another lovely song by SKO/Paul Overstreet.
The fade out was invented for radio...most disc jockeys wouldn't play a song over 3:00 mins and it gave them a chance to talk between songs with no dead air...sometimes it was done in the recording process to drive home the melodic hook of the title like it does here.
it's pretty...Bob Welch with Sendimental Lady...John Denver!...Beautiful!

I do. :)
I've got 2 of them !
I have them in both my cars and my son gave me one for my Stereo, he loves the old school recievers, turntables etc. !
I originally had a cassette tape. My husband bought the CD a few years ago for $70. I've never seen another CD since.
Still have the same stereo with two cassette players that my dad brought home in 1990. :)
