Herschel is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. I always enjoy seeing what he has whenever I'm in town. My most recent purchase at Coosaw was The Presidential Barrel Proof store pick recommended by a fellow HCBC member. It is a solid bottle for $38.99. He heard me discussing being a Brown-Forman fan and offered an OF1924, but I had to pass. That RR15 is nice grab for just over SRP. Great to see you highlighting his store in your videos!
In Ohio where we have state controlled liquor and pricing, they call anyone who waits in line a Tater...but that's the only way to get the harder to find stuff without fueling the secondary market
Not much better in Florida. Not a controlled state, can find "most" allocated bottles somewhere other than Weller products but at just insanely ridiculous prices. Frustrating for sure.
@traviscrown9189 essentially anyone who is a "second" seller of the bottle, and who marks up the bottle over MSRP. This could be online platforms, or even liquor stores that buy off of the public. An RR15 that should cost about $250 MSRP is instead $450 from them. A liquor store can have "full secondary prices" but usually aren't the "second seller" of the bottle
Damn right off the bat are 2 great whiskies , the Blue Spot & Red Spot! Love those 2 bottles. Happy you found a special bottle. Passed on it myself but I also love the RR13 but don’t think it is worth the 150. Fortunately stores nearby have killer RR SiB barrel picks which have beaten the RR13 in blinds. Love the KC18 Never seen a baby Blanton’s. My ABC state sucks for special bottles like sizes or verticals. Gotta find the Disco 12. The Disco 11 is fantastic
Awesome find with that Russel's 15. I was very lucky to find one at MSRP at a small town liquor store down here in San Antonio. Just opened it last night and shared it with some friends...freaking delicious stuff for sure!
Entertaining video, as always. Glad to see you didn’t buy Clase Azul. It's a fancy bottle with sugar water inside. G4 is great, traditionally made. The G4 special edition, depending on the year, can be good, though it's a subjective call whether or not it's worth $200+. I see he didn't recommend the regular G4 reposado, which is excellent and should be around $50-60. I guess I can't blame him because he wants to make a profit, so he suggested the special edition Dia De Muertos reposado that was 4x the price of the regular reposado, which is excellent. The special editions vary flavor wise. But the price was fair, given the market price range. ArteNOM makes some good bottles. You whisky folk may like ArteNOM 1146 or, for a higher end bottle, the Tears of Llorona you discussed withyour friends in Florida. Lots of good choices in that shop including Cazcanes, Siembra Valles, & Caballito Cerrero.
If dude came in and asked "any allocated bourbon today?" Then walked out that'd be a tater. That is just a man looking for cough syrup flavored canadian whiskey.
How's that tater? Maybe people want to know if their favorite bourbon is in stock (e.g., ER10, EHT). Customers usually don't have full visibility on what store has. Isn't it natural asking for what they want, what they want to know? I mean, I definitely don't want to spend extra money on what I don't want to buy?
I don't think so. I think a tater is someone who hears from other people what bourbon they're supposed to like, become obsessed with Buffalo Trace and then proceed to make it their life's mission to hoard all Blantons/ER/Weller that they can find. Asking your liquor store if they got any allocated stuff in is completely fine.
Fun fact about HH and that Baby Jane but I was talked into buying one and feel more like Baby Lame. It’s just so flat and nothing to get excited about.
I just found your channel and I got to say I’m very impressed. It’s so refreshing to see a younger guy into bourbon. There are a ton of bourbon channels that are great but to find a younger guy doing it I can relate to is key for me. I think you’ll get a lot of followers from that alone. I feel like you’ll be a stand out channel for that. And your family oriented bc your helping your dad is awesome. So just wanted to say this is my first video and I’m liking and subscribing. I loved how you said no, no when he pulled out the Russell’s 15 but you grabbed it so fast and didn’t let it go. Well done. New subscriber from Indianapolis, Indiana.
You need to do a Barrel Pick at Nashville Barrel Company, and if you decide to actually do it and come to Nashville I would love to help out with the barrel pick tasting. 😊
Do a barrel pick from Jim Beam ( Bakers) or 4 Roses ( good Luck ) lol Also Hunter, the Blanton's tops with the letters are in bourbon barrels at the distillery for anyone to grab what they need.. dont need to find them in the wild.
Appreciate the video. A Tater to me is someone that treats whiskey as a commodity. I use whiskey as a way to make friends. Congrats on your first pick. Wish I was smart enough to snag a bottle 😂
Twelve 33 distillery is in Little River near the NC border. They have excellent Wheaters. They released a barrel proof recently and it is GREAT. 4 grain mashbills and the owner is pretty cool. They did a store pick with someone and they may would do one with ya IDK.
It's crazy every video i see of ppl hunting total wines the store doesn't list after tax. BUT since here in WA our taxes are literally the highest they do give us the after tax price on the tag. Just a bit of reference for you I'm going off assumption though, but that grain to glass HH would be like $160ish ball park. I seen a Woodinville 8yr for 130 sticker and after tax was like 176. Im a bit jealous of some other states pricing!
Another great video! Mer-lot! You kill me. Great relationship building and picking up the RR15. Amazing. I'm telling you. The people in this industry and the enthusiasts are awesome. That's what it's all about man, meeting good people.
Heck Yeah! Score on the RR15!!!! Super happy you snagged one and for an awesome price!!!! That G4 tequila is cool as heck too! That bird was a trip…. I might have left as soon as I saw a raccoon! 🤣 Love the video, super awesome! Hope your dads bar comes together and is amazing! 🥃
I just spent more than I’ve ever spent on a bottle and it was only 160 but it hurt. That’s my whiskey budget for a couple months but I figured I’ll never see it again so might as well get it.
@__PJ__ G4 is traditionally produced. Whether it's "better" is completely subjective to one's taste preferences. Patron filters its base line tequilas, which removes flavor from them.
A lot of people don't like the BH 10 because of its price. When supposedly the regular Basil Hayden is 8-9 year old whiskey. Double the price for one more year.
There’s a good one in North Charleston by Food Lion. Bought Weller 107 Eagle Rare and many others at a very fair price. That’s all the help y’all get good luck Edit: One word for tequila, Fortaleza
Great video Hunter and the home bar is going to be amazing. Glad you didn't fall prey to that Clase Azul tequila garbage. It's an additive bomb 💣 and way to much money. And what a damn score for the RR 15 🎉. I just got the Blood Oath Pact 10, it's delicious
you arnt a tater for saying the true. Buffalo Trace is a solid pick. You are a tater for hunting anything BT as if there arent other good things out there.
My brother in Christ, you want these tequilas: #1 is FORTALEZA...then in preferential order: Cazcanes No. 10 (which you had in your hand? 🤦🏼♂️), Tequila Ocho, Cascahuin, Cascahuin Tahona, Lalo (started by Don Julio's grandson), Arette, Siete 7 Leguas, Volans
Fortaleza is good, but the prices now most places, if you can find it, are nuts. Volans is alright, but not great. Tequila Ocho & El Tesoro are far better. Cazcanes No. 9 & the aged expressions over No. 10, though the prices in some places are getting too high for them. But it's all subjective anyway per taste preferences.
I own a bottle of Peerless, high rye bourbon. I got it at the distillery in March. It is good but definitely not worth the $155. I paid for it or anything close to that. There are many other high-rye bourbons that are just as good. I would not recommend buying it.
Indeed, though usually for $500-700 for the newly released 7-year to $1,000+ for past years' versions. The flavor profiles also have varied widely from version to version.
Finished in "mair-lot" 😂
Maybe the way a "tater" would pronounce it 😂jk
IKR..... Muurlow is they way to pronounce it ;)
Not a wine guy
Calls a guy asking for Blackberry Crown a Tater...checks letters on bottles of Blantons!
@@muriloninja this dude is a joke
Knob 18 just sitting on the shelf *cries*
it do be like that in SC saw prob 5 or 6 in my hunt couple weeks back just too pricey for me.
Kroger has it for $189 sitting for a few days.
Bought one for $150. Owner gave me a deal because I bought something else. Can't wait to open it.
It was all over Ohio this past week. Saw probably 30+ bottles of it

Baby Jane is one of my favorite bottles to sit on right now. Great great bourbon
In Ohio where we have state controlled liquor and pricing, they call anyone who waits in line a Tater...but that's the only way to get the harder to find stuff without fueling the secondary market
i kinda find it aggravating living in ohio with the liquor laws
Not much better in Florida. Not a controlled state, can find "most" allocated bottles somewhere other than Weller products but at just insanely ridiculous prices. Frustrating for sure.
I’m
Going to ask a real dumb question. What is the secondary market? What does that mean?
@traviscrown9189 essentially anyone who is a "second" seller of the bottle, and who marks up the bottle over MSRP. This could be online platforms, or even liquor stores that buy off of the public. An RR15 that should cost about $250 MSRP is instead $450 from them. A liquor store can have "full secondary prices" but usually aren't the "second seller" of the bottle
Pennsylvania is the same. Sucks.
Glad you lucked out but for me Bottles over the $130 mark are out of bounds for me, don't care how good they are or could be.
Damn right off the bat are 2 great whiskies , the Blue Spot & Red Spot! Love those 2 bottles.

Blackberry Crown is for some reason an allocated whiskey. Doesn’t have to be bourbon to be a tater.
How's that tater? Maybe people want to know if their favorite bourbon is in stock (e.g., ER10, EHT). Customers usually don't have full visibility on what store has. For me, tater = ONLY look for allocated for their collections / resell.

I got RR15 from Kroger in Indiana for $225 & Stagg Jr. store pick for $60 on another visit!

$260 for RR15- absolutely! Congratulations on the score
That Peerless High Rye is fantastic!!!
All the blood oaths are 98.6 degrees as that’s the temp of healthy human blood.
I know a liquor store in michigan where u can get BT by the CASE and nobody wants it anymore, its EVERYWHERE now. 🤔

Same in New Orleans

Holladay Distillery. I think what those guys are doing with the current whiskey they are pushing out has been nothing short of amazing.
Congrats on the Russel 15! Not sure if I saw right but the shop with the animals had some RR store picks in the glass case Should have grabbed them
Haven't pulled trigger on Peerless DO yet...want to try first. It's 100 plus in Atlanta.
Where you been bud? Actually down in your area this week. Anywhere I should stop from santee to Savannah
NuLu, 13th Colony, Firefly, ASW would all be great barrel pick choices
Some great scores! Always good to have a good relationship with you store owners!
I loved the first rebel that I picked up. I purchased another one last week because it was their last NASCAR label… it doesn’t taste the same at all.
I got my Russell's 15 in a similar manner. With tax came out to almost $300 exactly! It's so good!!!
That Blanton’s dump date is on my birthday 😀
Missing Person - Bourbon Hunter, where you been? Are you having issues with coming up with new content?

Rebel 100 is my go to! My local store just got a Rebel pick and they let me join in on the sampling!
Dang. That’s a steal for the Russell’s 15. I tried it at a tasting event. That’s worth it. The $500-600 secondary pricing is over priced.

Got me a Russell’s 15 yesterday at a drop in ohio. Super excited for it. I like the HH GTG rye but not as much as the wheated.
I got one too

I would love a Short Barrel pick, I missed the Cedar Ridge pick by a day.
Shortbarrel in GA would be a great pick.
That’s Blanton dump date is my sons birthday would love to have that one!
I knew there was someone!
Yep! By the way fantastic cedar ridge pick it is great glad I got a backup can’t wait until you can pick another one from them

Also, I would love to see a local South Carolina distillery pick for those of us who don’t get those bottles…. But that’s just me.
I saw the Michters Toasted Barrel Finish bourbon in Kiawah resort for $199 a week ago. Might still be there.
For a barrel pick I'd suggest RY3 in Va Beach, or Backbone
Big ups for passing on that blanton's
Buffalo Trace is easy for me to get here in Canada, thankfully. It's pretty much on every shelf in our government liquor stores.
Didn’t your liquor stores go on strike not too long ago? Thats wild! Thank you for watching!!
@@Bourbon_Hunter Yes they did...they weren't out for long....I live across from Detroit, so I wasn't worried. :)

Woodinville and I will go with you . I live about 3 hours from there.
I’ve only seen one RR15 in the wild at a liquor store in Locust Grove, Ga. for $475.00. I passed.
Whenever I get a double of something allocated I crack it immediately
Yep. If I buy it, ima drink it.

Wish they had trained the bird to say “Tater in the house” when someone walks in😂
Captain Jacks representing UK in store. Go Cats!
Great hunting. I don't think the R15 is worth the price. To many great bourbons on the shelf for $100 or less.
