When the cow paths and game trails are on six foot contours, it’s steep. Chukar and Hun populations will always thrive in such wild places. I absolutely love hearing the birds flush and the squeak of chukar and the chirp of Huns. Eric, you have discovered a lifetime of great experiences. Thank you for bringing these videos to us!
Walking back to elk camp, and enjoying the bench stroll, getting ready to drop another 1000 ft to the river, I just about stepped on a dozen chuckers a few year ago! Now that is a thrill. Great working dogs, and a must in that country!
Ckukar sono grandi pedinatori ho iniziato la caccia alle coturnice siciliane quando avevo 18 anni nella mia carriers ne ho fatto tante adesso mi diverto ancora vedere questi video thank you so much 😊 😀
These are just the best upland videos out there. Thanks so much for keeping them coming. We're going to have to fly you to South America to keep us happy through the summer.
@@oabeles Oren, if the continent of South America is smart, I'd outlaw Eric's dog called "Moxie" ...otherwise, upland birds would be extinct during one season :)
Someone like me, who lives in the Northeast and has hunted chukars in their native lands (Anatolia), this landscape, the vista and whole setting seems surreal... As much as I love the northern New England, it is nothing like the West. The scale is mind-blowing. Keep up man! You are doing good.
I had a time in Nevada where I was going up a ridge in light snow. I ended up going back down the ridge on the way to the truck and noticed tracks on the way down where the chukar moved out of my way and then came back around behind me to avoid one of my dogs !
Eric your a rockstar and so are the dogs! Your crushing it! Thanks for the videos, the hunting, and the scenery! Congratulations on limiting out and the sweet double retrieve!!
Quite simply fantastic .Your dogs are a real credit .I get to hunt red grouse here in the UK for a couple of days each year and like your chukar each bird shot is a real prize .
Yeah, I’ve been there and done that on footwork. The proper stance for shotgunning Huns and chucks is any foot placement that keeps you upright and not falling down the hill! Great video BTW.
I see the chukar/hun mix once every few years. Usually in places where birds are getting pressured enough that coveying back up becomes difficult and in colder parts of the year, they need 5-8 birds minimum to survive the night. I think it's survival based more than anything. PS - That is pretty impressive shooting especially if you're not used to shooting those birds. So many people shoot over the top because most birds are dropping serious elevation when they fly away from you. Great video as always!
the scenery there was beautiful... those slopes looked really steep tho, but for January looked like you had great weather to hunt in!!! congrats on your first limit of Chukars!! thanks for sharing
Awesome video as usual! Next time you’re out here you should make the drive down here to Emmett if you want to hunt some easier ground for chukar and huns haha.
Super video, you gotta be in great shape to get that high up, did you see a elevator for guys like me? Great shooting, those dogs are like gold! It was like you were there with you! Thanks again!
Gee Eric, you are a great shot, you don’t miss many chukars, especially at the angles given to you, they can be tough! Watching your other videos in Wyoming! I’m knocking the Cobb webs off my guns, throwing away my crutches, going hunting! Just joking!
Love your videos. I would love to see you do a video on what equipment you use, cameras and mounts, shotguns, chokes, shot size etc. Keep up the great work.
Man I love your videos. Can’t wait for Chukar season here in eastern Washington. I’ll be hitting the breaks of the Snake come October. And yes chukar are ridiculously tough birds. A lot of the old timers used to shoot 4’s from a full choked 12. I stick with 6’s cause I shoot 20 ga & 28 ga but yeah hard to kill birds
Awesome vid an even better dogs. I’m recently getting back into upland hunting with my boy an in couple months we get our first adventure with a GSP pup. Have a good one keep on keepin on 🤙🏼
Great videos Eric, thanks for sharing. It's been quite a few years since I did that so I'm living vicariously through you experience. It's called Hells Canyon for good reason. A green unbroke rambunctious dog can easily go over one of those cliffs chasing birds on the rise. Do your dogs have any health issues with cheat grass, it looks like it's all over the place.
Hi Eric, I'm just catching up with all you're videos, amazing. I hunt with a springer in NZ - great dog. I notice we have another thing in common, you're beard is also getting greyer as you don't get older.
Amazing footage and amazing dog work like always. How old are the 2 dogs in the video and what time of year were you out there, the weather looked amazing. Thanks for sharing!
From someone who has never done this kind of hunting before: would you shoot one of these birds if you saw them on the ground or are you only shooting if they are flying?
Nice one again. Do you take a sat phone or anything with you, those cliffs and rocks look treacherous? We're getting older you know, if something ever happened, do you usually have a plan in place?
Nice terrain good birds Nice working dogs I love your dogs❤️ So cool very nice working and soft mouth Nice shooting man ❤️👍 Awesome dude I wish this video had never an end :( Really enjoyed each moment A new subscriber from Pakistan
Definitely not light loads, more like pheasant loads. Chukar are tough. When you’re in the steep stuff, it’s important to stone them because they can sail forever if you don’t.
When you go into an area like this, are you going in blind or do you generally have some intel about said area?? Awesome video, checked feed for weeks waiting for it! Wish other birds hunting shows were as good as yours.
Thanks Ryan! I always try to go to general areas that are likely to have good numbers. But deciding where to get out of the truck is just about scouting, learning what the birds like, and putting in some miles.
@@ericforrester1 that’s great. With such varying ranges what choke did you decide to go with? I’m a fan of LM for a do it all but with that wind and distance combined I feel like that might be to open.
@@ericforrester1 Modified is always a good choice when you might need to take longer shots but don’t want to destroy a bird up close. Thanks for sharing👍🏻
who else is binge watching these counting down the days until opening day?!?!

And an inspiration for those of us trying to cross over to “professional youtubers”. I’d love to crossover and get paid to do this!!!
Not sure who enjoyed this more - me or my dog. He was fascinated the whole time and jumped at the close flushes. Great video!

Saw chukar hanging out with valley quail this year. I guess they go where the food is. Excellent video!
Love the footage. Scene at 15:28 looks like you're at the foot of an old castle.
All I have to say is these videos are simply just amazing and have opened my eyes to bird hunting and just hope to do the same as you.

Not cheatgrass, but Cici had a grass awn last year that caused an infection and took 2 surgeries to find. Those things are evil.
Nice hunt great wild you are a happy man

Your dogs are superb as is your shooting! What do you use to keep the paws on your dogs from cutting on that type of terrain?
Dogs must have good feet or they are done in a couple days. For some of my dogs I use tough foot and conditioning.
Awwwsome hunt!
Are you shooting 12/20 gauge?
What shells do you use while targeting the small huns and medium chukar?
I think I would be scared for my dog in some of those areas. Beautiful country but a little rough for me to handle.
I only hunt gambles quail and doves in arizona but seeing these chukar are driving me crazy i gotta find some 👍🏼
Road trip! 🤘
Great show it looks like you're having a lot fun. Nice dogs work and shooting. Are you the inside of oregon or Idaho. Thanks for sharing bro.

Cici is 8, Tubbs 3, Moxie 1. It was January but the weather was beautiful! 😎
Great vid. Thanks
Nice work
What size shot are you using on those chuckers
5 or 6
From someone who has never done this kind of hunting before: would you shoot one of these birds if you saw them on the ground or are you only shooting if they are flying?
If my dog does good work and I’ve hiked a ways, I’m totally fine with it. See part 1 😁

Great hunting! Thanks for the great video! Tell me please, is there any fish in this river?
Yes. Trout, salmon, and sturgeon I believe.
@@ericforrester1 Great set of fish! It would be interesting to see how you catch it. Unless, of course, you are fond of fishing.
Great vids and even better narration. Did you ever feel your truck and trailer were at any risk while you were out?
Thanks! I took my camper the first year I went out but I have camped in my truck since. There are some rough 2-tracks out there.
What size shot are using for chukar? Heavy pheasant loads or do they come down with light loads?
Definitely not light loads, more like pheasant loads. Chukar are tough. When you’re in the steep stuff, it’s important to stone them because they can sail forever if you don’t.
Are you camping ? This is great.
Yes, I camp in my truck.
