Absolutely hands down the BEST bird hunting videos on UA-cam! I have a ton of respect for you as an upland hunter. Keep up the good work and keep cranking out the videos!
Thanks for showing you picking up your shells! It's a subtle reminder for everybody to pick theirs up to! If you can track them down in hells canyon, anybody can pick theirs up!
I’ve been hun hunting in the winter for the past 10 years. My area and hunting experience mirrors yours. Watching your videos is just like I’m in the field with you.
Man I haven't hunted chucker in years. I almost forgot how fun/frustrating it is. We've had to kick the bush they were in some days and they jumped 200 yards wild other days. We hunted in North East California and Nevada. I hope to get at it again one day. Thanks for sharing!👍
Eric. Thanks for posting these videos man. Really enjoy watching all your adventures. Between family and job I only go on one cross country bird hunting trip a year. So being able to watch your endeavors let’s me live vicariously through you a little bit. Much appreciated.
It’s hard to tell how steep the ground is. Some beautiful work you did up there. Thanks for your work on making these videos! Oh, and Tubby was doing great!
I'm thinking your part mountain goat don't think I would make it thanks for the great video and the love you show your dogs we are nothing without them and it shows you care for them and they are great dogs you are blessed
I’ve hunted those canyons, the footing is really bad, but I killed Huns and chukars with sore knees and falling too! I love your explictives, I’ve said them too! I love this video, it brings back so many memories! At one point I was getting so close to coveys I switched to 20 gauge semi auto beretta with 26” barrel in modified choke! Lighter and easier to carry, more shells too! What a great video! Thank you!
Yes, it’s amazing! You are great shot, I’m watching your other videos too! It looks like you hunt alone quite a bit! It’s amazing your ethos semi auto isn’t beat up, I’ve gone to plastic stocks, because when i fall I break them once in awhile (wood ones), them rocks in the canyons are like marbles! I love your dogs too! I love wirehairs too! The wirehairs are smart and tough! I know I will watch your videos more than once!👍 Don’t tell anyone, but Brownlee and Oxbow reservoirs are full of smallmouth bass, largies, and other fish! Ishot two chukars once down at the water, a guy in a bass boat got them for me and brought them to shore! Thanks again!
Birds are making a slow comeback in the canyon. Once we have the snow, they mostly move below Hells Canyon. You should come up in November for Grouse hunting in our area. It’s been just crazy hunting this year. Nice birds!
For those of you who don't hunt Chukar that much, let me say that this guy does EXTREMELY well solo. In my opinion, chukar are the most difficult bird to hunt by yourself. With multiple people, usually someone gets a shot with proper dog work. I had to laugh at some many of those situations you encountered because I've been there too! I don't know if this helps at all, but generally speaking, if I miss chukar that are flying down hill, it's because I shoot over the top of them. On those really steep canyons, those birds are flying DOWN so much and it's deceptive to the eye until you get used to it. FYI, there are a TON of grouse in that area and it's fun hunting because their habitat at least for ruffies is very localized in canyons. You will find a bunch of birds in certain spots!
Great job capturing a day in Hells Canyon chasing birds and moments only a few experience. I appreciate you showing your misses and frustration as well as success. If it were easy it wouldn't be as captivating and a bag full of birds would not be as sweet. Great dog work and good shooting. Takes me back a couple weeks.
that looked like a great time...my buddy that i hunt with all time told me he wants to go there this fall..i told him to watch your video part 1..... i told him we both have to get in way better shape to go up & down the cliffs!!! thanks for sharing the beautiful video with us & be safe!!!
That said by Andy Roy. But, like you said, it also gives you a bad gut feeling of not getting that bird for the work the dog has done. Have the same feeling every time my flushers look at me when I miss. I felt that way when you "missed". Outstanding Eric. From one Hoosier to the other. Take Care.
We used to have a covy of hungarians on my grandparents farm. I loved the surprise of running into those little beauties on pheasant hunts when they were still to be found in SW Minnesota. Those chuckars are sure a lot better eating than those sharptails you been getting.
I always enjoy these videos. Really nice! I miss more than my share of birds (definitely more than you do) and get frustrated. The frustration isn't good for my dogs... so trying to improve at least that part of the equation... LOL! Thanks for posting!
Hi Eric! I just found your channel and subscribed after I filmed my first wild bird hunt this past January. Your videos are great and it gives me something to aspire to. I hunt the same areas and it's very tough country. Especially with that much snow. Your dogs are awesome and really pin down the birds. Well done and I look forward to following your adventures and maybe I'll bump into you on the hill one day.
Eric, Enjoy the videos. Been chasing them birds a long time. Ive always said the problem with chukar videos is it very hard to do by ones self and who would follow you just to film? .With that said you do a very good job of getting the filming done. Someone following you would be next level. One thing I would like to see since you have GPS, is how far are the dogs running on each hunt and more importantly, how far are you walking each day. I think it would give folks a better understanding of what's involved to play this game. Since I would like to see more of your videos, please be careful in that little boat . The wind can come up hard and you wont get back in that thing, or least it will be done at great risk!
Great video and scenery as usuall, and excellent dogs, love the way you trained them and the great job they do. Í hunt wild red partridge here in Spain with a gsp dog, really hard to approach them... chukars has similar behaviour.
I recognized some of the places you hunted. Great chukar hunting there. Really nice filming and interesting commentary. Thanks. If you get out this way next year try the breaks around the owyhee Reservoir south of where you filmed this. This is another great area if the hatch is good.
Love the vids. can hardly wait for next season. most of my chukar hunts go like your last day - or worse! PS - your tweety birds were Gray-crowned Rosy Finches, and the nest site was likely Prairie Falcon or Golden Eagle (I couldn't see it that well)..
Awesome dude Lovely content over all I love shot at 18:00 not an easy one Pretty interesting at 25:00 The last day was Not your day it happens sometime Goodluck for next hunt 👍
Hey man. Love your videos. Would you be up for making one on how you plan trips? Particularly how you scout and find birds before the hunt. That’d be great.
I do not have pointing dogs (i have 3 working springer spaniels), however, i just love to see videos of hunting dogs doing what they are supposed to do. Your videos with your gwps are easily the most enjoyable and informative out there. Thanks for that. Hunting is just part of it though, i therefore kindly ask you to consider just a minute of life in camp, feeding dogs, field dressing, some recipes maybe. I fully understand if you wont though. Keep up the good work, br fm dk
Wildfire outdoors: I almost know for a fact that questions about Erics gear and setup of his truck will be channelled to his patreon page, absolutely nothing wrong with that, that is his prerogative. I do not want any secrets. What I am asking, is just a few seconds of the small things that is an integral part of a hunting. We dont have any mountains here in dk, I do however have been hunting in mountains in both Norway and Sweden. Therefore I am just curious how he handles camplife with his dogs after a whole day hiking in the snow and the slopes, and then get up 14 hours later and then do it all over again. Curiosity killed the cat! Best regards🦧🐶🐶&🐶
Thanks for sharing Eric! Always love watching your videos and listening to your commentary. Great dog work as always! The cover photo for this video is awesome! Is this your last video for the season??
Greetings! I observed two dog breeds, Drahthaars and French (?) or German Braques, and a mix of the shorthaired and wirehaired breeds? Is that correct?
Just love watching your hunts, This hunting in Hells Canyon is just some of the toughest terrain i can imagine. Really dont like seeing you hunting like this alone. If you slipped and rolled an ankle it would be a bitch getting out of there. Be safe and take a friend. Looking forward to more. Thankyou and those wonderful dogs.
I just bought a bird dog and I’m hoping to start bird hunting. Problem is that I’m from western NC, so we basically just have grouse and woodcock. I’d love to quail hunt with my dog, maybe even pheasant. Any advice on hunting places like kansas, Id like to hunt public land or private owned farm land with her, but I don’t know where to start
The Kansas website has great maps and information that can help you identify good areas. Start by looking at where bird numbers are good and then look for places to hunt in those areas. You can identify potential spots with satellite imagery, looking for cover and food.
What kind of dogs are you using and do you hunt solo? Pretty dangerous out in the middle of nowhere by yourself. It's always on the back of my mind when I go out alone.
Was it two birds that got shot on the first big covey with one shot? One fell in the creek but the other one I think went down too. That looks like a ton of fun!

Very true. Shooting down a cliff at a Chukar flying downhill is the hardest shot I have ever encountered. Thanks for the knowledge 👊
Nice shooting. Downhill you had best shooting underneath them
Fantastic video. I love chukar hunting.
Thanks
Eric, how did you like the Boss ammo. I saw that you also use Winchester and Remington. Which is your fav shotshell for chukar so far?
I switched to #5’s this year and it seemed like I got better results with less cripples.
