    I wish I would have seen a video like this a couple months ago, when I first bought Quest 3. Keep making more such informative videos!

      Thank you much, and it's never too late to know these things, for sure. Wish I'd known them earlier when trying to get friends into VR! Keep VR-ing, and here's the future of all things VIRTUAL!

    Glad to see you back here. This is another video I will transcribe, for another friend this time.
    Some people do use their headsets but are afraid of most fully immersive experiences due to motion sickness, and I am always trying to nudge them into better conditioning their bodies to adapt to it. You got some solid points, and they will love the references...

      Thank you so much for that! And I love that you're transcribing these for a friend who speaks another language. So awesome! I hope this does help anyone for whom discomfort has been holding them back from REALLY trying VR. Good luck! And good to be back! I was our of town a good amount the last month, which kept me from being able to do videos as regularly. Planning to be back to 1 a week again! :)

    When I played Fallout 4 on the Xbox One it made me queasy after a few minutes.
    Someone suggested that I use motion sickness bands like people wear on cruise ships and it helped me. Maybe it would in vr too.

      I've heard that one too, and I have not had anyone I know who has tried that yet. I think it's worth a try. Oh, and another one that can help is putting a fan on the floor and have it blowing on you as you play. Can help with motion-sickness, so I've heard, and with the getting hot thing!

    I've found the whole VR legs thing a bit of a mixed blessing. When I first started using VR 9 years ago I used to get quite queasy, especially after longer sessions. As time went on I got less and less sick to the point it doesn't affect me at all now. However as the motion sickness went so did the feeling of presence and to a certain extent emersion. For instance roller coaster experiences used to feel exciting and exhilarating, like I was on a real ride, but I now I don't feel anything, its like my brain can see through the trick. In a way I almost want to go back to when VR made me sick and get that feeling of presence back

      That is a fascinating point, DJ! What you say here does make sense - how the WOW factor can wear off a bit, and sometimes you just want that first experience again, even if it made you not feel well. One thing I've noticed is, while I probably don't feel as wowed by VR every time I'm in it like those first times, as I do new things in it, I make a point to remind myself to savor these moments, and really pay attention to what I'm doing throughout my whole body. That really has helped me to never take for granted the feelings and experiences in VR vs. anything else other than real life. Really fantastic point....

    I remember the first time I played Ultrawings 2, as soon as the plane started to turn I felt motion sickness, but now I'm mid barrel roll physically looking upwards and all I see above me is the sea but I'm looking for drones to shoot down and rings to fly through, so you plan the next maneuver or crazy dive. It makes my brother motion sick if I cast to the TV 😂

      Love this! You got your VR legs - probably took a little bit, but you did it. That's what it's all about. And I really enjoyed ULTRAWINGS (the first one), but haven't had a chance to play the 2nd one yet. I look forward to it for sure! Thanks for the comment, and keep working out those VR legs!

    The quest 2 (for me) had such awful IPV setting that not ONE of the 3 gave me a clear picture. Thanks mom and dad!

    • @jollyjulian
      @jollyjulian  4 місяці тому +2

      Yeah, that's the challenge with the Quest 2, that they definitely got better with the Quest 3 - changing from 3 set points for IPD, and making it a slider instead. However, FYI, I did find with my Quest 2 that I could put that setting IN BETWEEN two of the points, and it would stay for the most part. Not perfect, but it was a solution. Might see if that works for you? Hopefully that helps!

      @@jollyjulian thank you for the info Julian. If I get another quest 2 I will try it. Otherwise I'll probably try the quest 3 and see if the solves my issue. Appreciate the info. I'm new to VR and as all expensive tech goes, an informed purchase is always best.

      @@boink666I have a Quest 2 for 2 years, although it's really a great device and I have much fun and more control than an old flatscreen games, the ipd adjustment is just trash and the controllers jousticks is completely bad. I highly suggest Quest 3 since it fixes most of the ptoblem with Quest 2 but avoid pressing the the sticks since that will cause drift stick

    You need to buy some aftermarket headset straps to balance the load better -if you dont get sick on fairground rides or boats, you wont get sick in VR, its just the usual motion sickness deal- I use it all the time and its great!

    • @jollyjulian
      @jollyjulian  5 місяців тому

      You bet - a good point! Balancing the headstrap (counter-balancing the weight of the headset itself) can really help. I have done that with every headset I've owned, and it makes a massive difference! Thanks for the comment and suggestion.

    A really good friend of mine convinced me to get the prescription lenses for my headset, and I didn’t think it would make much of a difference, but boy was I wrong. It’s a game-changer for sure!

    • @jollyjulian
      @jollyjulian  5 місяців тому

      I wasn't sure at first either, and it's way more than just being GLASSES in the headset. They don't flop around, you can increase your FOV a decent amount, and it keeps the bridge of the nose feeling good! Game changer - yes!!!

    I got an app on my iPhone to measure my IPD. Then I had a good starting point for setting it in my Quest 2.

    • @jollyjulian
      @jollyjulian  4 місяці тому

      That will almost always help - if you can get an accurate measurement of your actual IPD, and the headset you're using will actually display it as you set it, that will make dialing it in much easier. Otherwise, play with it, and find the spot where the center of the image is the clearest for you. Good point, my friend!

    As a new VR gamer and new to your channel, I think you should change your name to the VR professor. I have learned so much from your channel! Keep up the good work!!

      VR Professor? Hmmmm.... I like that! Wait, does that mean I have to wear TWEED jackets, and make sure my hair goes grey and ask students to leave an apple on my desk when they leave? Stereotype? I guess.... Professor Jolly Julian.... not a bad ring to it! Thanks for the comment, and so glad you're getting good information out of the videos! more to come!

    This may be a outdated question , but just ur deep understanding made me ask this .. I am a flat screen gamer ,I bought a quest 2 in 2024, cause I need lesmikls workout and thrill of fight .. now I feel I try other games .. do I switch to quest3 or is q2 enough! I dont care abt pass through .. But I do have fear of water , heights and deapth of darkness .. I am feeling little discomfort for that .. Do I stop or is it ok at first .. 🙏 sry askin 2questions ,thanks 😊

    • @jollyjulian
      @jollyjulian  4 місяці тому +1

      Hey there - good question for sure, and I would say this: I think, for now, you should be fine with the Quest 2. I do feel the Quest 3 is a good step up visually, as the optics use better lenses and resolution, but until you know how much you're going to use VR, I think the 2 is enough. Still a really great headset, and you don't have to shell out any more money. However, if you love playing VR, and the fear factor isn't an issue, the Quest 3 might be worth an upgrade. I love my Quest 3, for sure, but I also play at least a bit of VR every single day. Hope that helps!

    yup, its sucks when people cant play. but i have a salution that has helped alot to be able to play without the nausea, make sure to have chocolate or winegums and just keep feeding them it. it for real has helped so many even in the rollercoasters, witch kind of blew my mind so its possible. i was one of the devkit oculus guys, and have been out there promoting the headsets for years like crazy and have put so many people on VR gaming. so i know what im talking about in the area, so if you have those issues then try it out its like when people get motion sickness from being in a car so works about the same.

      @jollyjulian  5 місяців тому

      Very interesting! Well, that's certainly worth giving a try! And, any excuse to have chocolate - I'll always take that too! LOL! Yeah, if you've been around since the DK1 days, you must have a lot of experience, and I look forward to hearing from any other viewers who may try this out! I'll give it a try next time I have someone over to try out VR!
