- In this episode, we get started on the rust removal process. First I'll attack the water-box where the front cowl sits as well as the finder and bonnet support of the Datsun 1200. Its going to be a long road getting this body restored but gotta start somewhere!
Make sure to show your mates what I did in this video:

32Builds is a channel to showcase the progress and techniques I will use on my Datsun 1200 restoration project. I post videos on my build projects, various how to's as well as footage of events that I visit. My aim is to show you that with enough passion and persistence, anything is achievable.
Why 32? The number 32 is pronounced 'san-nii' in japanese, sounding like Sunny. This channel was birthed on the build progress of my 1976 Datsun Sunny pick-up. To checkout the full playlist of the build progress, check out the link below!

Thanks for stopping by :)
I'm starting a 620 soon and I appreciate these videos
Wild that you're working on it in a community parking lot
I’m following your guide to restore my 1200 sedan as well. Keep up the good work.
Thank you :) Thats awesome to hear!
Nice work fabrication
Restorasi Datsun 120 y total om..mantaap ..isstimewa...👍👍👍
Have been looking forward to the body rebuild videos. Great start! Keep ‘em coming...
Thank you!!
I just picked up a 1200 Ute too. It’s in decent condition, but there’s still a lot to be done. Your vids are super insightful and you’ve got some really good skills brother. Well done.
Thanks so much for the kind words, I dunno about skill - they're still developing 😂 Good luck on your Datto too!
I am following you, great job!
Awesome vid man! These videos will be great when I finally get my 1200!
Thanks! There's way more rust hidden away than I expected. Make sure you double check before you bite the bullet :)
Another great video! Nice little effects highlighting the different areas ;)
Thanks you! :)
Get yourself a spot weld drill bit for next time - it's neater than a standard twist bit as it barely drills into the second panel and makes it easier to separate the panels. Oh and I hope that's your Yaris and not someone elses you're covering in grinding swarf!
My brother parks next to me, I've been misting with water between grinds. There's got to be a better way haha
Buy some welding screens to block the sparks. They can burn into paint and glass even if it's wet.
Not much air goes into the cabin anyway 😂 - hence the pop windows 👍🔰
Thats what I was thinking 😂
Yay love seeing this next video pop up
Happy to hear! Will be pumping through it after Crissy! Happy holidays!
Just found your channel. I'm inspired to move forward on my build. You are doing a great job, once finished with the body and paint flood hard to get areas with penetrol so they won't rust again.
Than you so much! Yes definitely, I was originally thinking fish oil but I'll check out penetrol 😁 Good luck on your build too!!
love the videos you have gave me some ideas of things to work on while I'm waiting for parts to come in for my sunny!
Thanks! Glad to hear you like them :) I feel like there'll always be things to work on with this Sunny! haha
32Builds there’s always something to do mine looks good but man there’s always something wrong haha
Blocking off the top vents in the cowl should be fine. Just cut out some stainless plates and glue them in place with some Selleys D-Mastic or non-hardening windscreen sealant, and put the grilles over the top.
Nice I'll try do it before I put the cowl back on!
looks like the satsuma gt in my summer car the parts are the same as usual
Yo, your work is incredible! Is it possible for you to list all the material and tools you used during your restoration? I’m begin to restore at 510.
Nice!
Thanks!
hey micheal, im pretty determined to do my own panel beating/body work when i get a space to do my 720, but im also curious to check out what replacement panels are available out there and i was wondering where you sourced your front quarter panels from ? was it an australian supplier or did you have to import them ?
Hi man I just wanted to say I like your work which country are from ?
Thank you so much! I'm Australian :)
Fuck i wish i was this commited, my sill rust is probably just as bad! ill have to come see it when its done
Keen to take her out for some datto meets in the future!
How thick the plate u use?
amazing! what thickness of sheet metal are you using?
Thank you! 1mm sheet with a zinc plate - got it from my local metal guy
hahah fuck bro put up some grinding screens that car got covered in hot sparks ;)___
Haha yeah, that was a part of the learning process for me xD
@@32Builds more so for them hahah
unless its your vehicle?
Nice work brooo, your instagram?

I've been following your videos because I've also got a 1200 ute that I'm starting to rebuild. I noticed you've got some of the reproduction front guards on at the beginning of the video. What's the quality/fit like?
So far so good! They're really nice quality and finish. I won't really know the fitment until I get all the panels back on, but I use the guards in my videos to line everything back up and ensure there's a decent panel gap all around. I'm pretty much gonna purchase all the reproduction panels I can.. To save time haha
@@32Builds good to hear. Are the ones you bought from eBay? You can almost rebuild the entire car from eBay panels
