  • In this episode, we get started on the rust removal process. First I'll attack the water-box where the front cowl sits as well as the finder and bonnet support of the Datsun 1200. Its going to be a long road getting this body restored but gotta start somewhere!
    Make sure to show your mates what I did in this video:

    32Builds is a channel to showcase the progress and techniques I will use on my Datsun 1200 restoration project. I post videos on my build projects, various how to's as well as footage of events that I visit. My aim is to show you that with enough passion and persistence, anything is achievable.
    Why 32? The number 32 is pronounced 'san-nii' in japanese, sounding like Sunny. This channel was birthed on the build progress of my 1976 Datsun Sunny pick-up. To checkout the full playlist of the build progress, check out the link below!

    I just picked up a 1200 Ute too. It’s in decent condition, but there’s still a lot to be done. Your vids are super insightful and you’ve got some really good skills brother. Well done.

    Get yourself a spot weld drill bit for next time - it's neater than a standard twist bit as it barely drills into the second panel and makes it easier to separate the panels. Oh and I hope that's your Yaris and not someone elses you're covering in grinding swarf!

      My brother parks next to me, I've been misting with water between grinds. There's got to be a better way haha

      Buy some welding screens to block the sparks. They can burn into paint and glass even if it's wet.

    Just found your channel. I'm inspired to move forward on my build. You are doing a great job, once finished with the body and paint flood hard to get areas with penetrol so they won't rust again.

    • @32Builds
      @32Builds  4 роки тому

      Than you so much! Yes definitely, I was originally thinking fish oil but I'll check out penetrol 😁 Good luck on your build too!!

    Blocking off the top vents in the cowl should be fine. Just cut out some stainless plates and glue them in place with some Selleys D-Mastic or non-hardening windscreen sealant, and put the grilles over the top.

    • @32Builds
      @32Builds  4 роки тому

      Nice I'll try do it before I put the cowl back on!

    hey micheal, im pretty determined to do my own panel beating/body work when i get a space to do my 720, but im also curious to check out what replacement panels are available out there and i was wondering where you sourced your front quarter panels from ? was it an australian supplier or did you have to import them ?

    I've been following your videos because I've also got a 1200 ute that I'm starting to rebuild. I noticed you've got some of the reproduction front guards on at the beginning of the video. What's the quality/fit like?

    • @32Builds
      @32Builds  3 роки тому

      So far so good! They're really nice quality and finish. I won't really know the fitment until I get all the panels back on, but I use the guards in my videos to line everything back up and ensure there's a decent panel gap all around. I'm pretty much gonna purchase all the reproduction panels I can.. To save time haha

      @@32Builds good to hear. Are the ones you bought from eBay? You can almost rebuild the entire car from eBay panels
