Its amazing to following your videos I'm busy rebuilding my L18 to fit it in my sunny and I'm so excited to see your end product...Thanx for the videos buddy I'm watching all the way from South-Africa
Depends on the shop you go to, and how much you spend 😂 this Datsun came with half an inch of filler over unprepped rust holes so I guess the previous owner cheaped out on their repairs haha
Thanks! Whenever I do though, it instantly blows right through on contact. Depends on where though, maybe I should turn down the voltage? Sometimes I do it to zap off the excess wire when I cant be bothered grabbing my snippers
@@32Builds the distance you hold the tip from the metal can control penetration a lot actually, so in your case i would actually keep a little bit of a further stick out if you are having trouble blowing through.
I've actually been noticing that! For plug welds and corner joints I go in super close to make sure I get the penetration on the second panel. With butt joints usually there's a little bit of gap I weld a little further out, and for blow throughs I'm well away from the piece. Also my welder doesn't pick up wire-speed instantly, so at the start of each weld there's not enough wire going in. I know its not an issue with the roller losing traction, maybe the old motor cant handle the initial torque of the full big size spool.
Found you on accident but happy I did, keep these videos up!!! Awsome how you go into detail and show everything you’re doing not just telling us about it, amazing work!!
i would say your videos could have 30 minutes, i wouldn't mind!!! i'm currently restoring a 1968 510, but has some rust holes... still learning to weld, which is what reamins to do in bodywork... cheers from portugal, keep sending these videos!!
hey man really love ur build really stoked to see documentation on this car. can u plz tell the name of the first song the name in the discription is only of the second song
These videos are so informative! Just picked up a 1200 ute in similar condition. I am so keen to get cracking myself. Out of interest, do you have any history in metal work? Sure have some good knowledge and skills.
Hello, I'm using an Australian brand of welder that I got from a friend :) Definitely choose something that accepts gas and one that you can fine adjust the wire speed and voltage for mig welding :)
Honestly you are really getting good at this whole UA-cam videos. Honestly is a joy to watch with good information thrown in.
Thank you so much haha, actually kinda scary putting my face out there for people to see
You no idea how much your videos have help me in fixing my one !!!
I'm so glad mate 😁
dedication right there, plus having to put up with a flux core welder
Cheers! I've since switched to gas, flux didn't give me a fine enough weld for the thin sheet metal. Barely enough for brand new 1mm sheet haha

Thanks mate! Good luck with your project! Nice choice sticking with an old motor :D
I don't think people in a shop does this type of detailed work - very well done! Can't wait to see the next video -

looking good mate, I think you should move the welder tip closer to the metal before pulling the trigger.

@@32Builds turn down voltage and turn up wire speed.
I'll give that a go :)

Out of interest, do you have any history in metal work? Sure have some good knowledge and skills.
I'm glad you find them informative!
Congrats on picking up a Datto! I have no history in metal work so it all began on this build for me 😀
Awesome work Mike! Out of interest, how many cutting and grinding discs have you gone through to date on this project?
Thank you Sugar! Off the top of my head around 10 cutting disks and 3 or 4 40-grit flapper wheels haha
@@32Builds wow!! I was expecting a few but that's a few more than I was expecting!!
Sorry but what is the purpose of drilling holes on the panels while welding?
Hi mate, thanks for the question. I drill the holes so that I can get good welding penetration into the second sheet of metal.
Muy bien amigo, en donde estas haciendo este trabajo?? en que pais???
Hey mate :) I'm in australia
@@32Builds para cuando el siguiente vídeo???
Are your going to close the cow vents ???
Commented on the other comment you made 😊 but yes, eventually
Hi what kind of welding machine did you use? What size?
Hello, I'm using an Australian brand of welder that I got from a friend :) Definitely choose something that accepts gas and one that you can fine adjust the wire speed and voltage for mig welding :)
Just interested cause Mines just as bad as yours and I'm contemplating closing them so I don't have to worry about rust in the future
Yes I'm thinking the exact same thing. I might plate and Sika it down the track when it comes closed to the finishing stages of the body
@@32Builds sounds awesome I think im going to do the same 💪💪💪
@@32Builds so keen to see yours done 💪💪
