I have high porosity hair and I completely agree with the float test being inaccurate. I did the test a few weeks ago and my hair just floated on top. However, I can tell by how quickly my hair dries that I'm high porosity. ❤️
ME TOO. when i get out the shower my hair dries in 3 minutes EXTREMELY dry. when i moisturize it’s soft for 10 mins before being DRY. i’m positive i’m high porosity, but my hair floated on the water test like whatt.
Content! Content!! Content!!! I so can't get enough of this channel. Recently, I've been thinking about the porosity of my hair so thank you for this video JennJ🙂😊
First time I clearly understood porosity and also the first time I understood why it's important. It appears I have high porosity hair and I will treat it accordingly. Thanks Sis!
Hair porosity, is a spectrum it’s never just one porosity. Especially on the ends, due to manipulation and the fact that the sebum doesn’t always make it towards the bottom of the strand. All hair needs protein!!!!
This is a very thorough review on hair porosity. I believe my hair is high porosity but as you stated it is best to get to know and examine your hair to see what is like and don't like.
Love the video Jen. I need to figure out my porosity. I’ve been natural for almost 10 days. Just been doing my own thing when it comes to my hair. My hair looks its best when I style it wet. I did a 2nd big chop in August 2017, wore a fade loved it but missed my hair. I’ve been growing my hair out since April 2018 and it’s been growing like weeds. Due to my job I have to keep it tucked away but now that it’s longer I need to work harder to keep it fully moisturized. Im prone to acne and love to workout (a lot) and over the years have limited what products I use in my hair so I don’t breakout. Thanks for the video Jen. I need to figure out this hair porosity. 🥰🥰🤗🤗
One of the best and informative videos on porosity hair. Your makeup is beautiful. I have high porosity and no my hair is not damaged..loves protein, heavy butter and silicone hates glycerin and coconut

New subscriber here! Think I found my new hair Bible. I'm still learning things about my natural hair and I thought it was low poros. but after watching this I believe it's high poros. ....that's probs why what I was doing wasn't working...Hmm. You're a queen. Much love🙏🌹✨
Thanks, Jenn!😍 This was a very informative vid. I'm high porosity, med & fine strands. Love layering products...LOCGB. Works great for me. Butter is my new best friend😁
I have characteristics of all three😭 my hair doesn’t retain moisture at all it gets super dry and brittle but the products I use kinda just sits on top of my hair
My hair is textbook low porosity EXCEPT for when it comes to butters. My hair Loves Shea butter so much ... A little goes a long way. Everything else screams low porosity. When I do the water test I poke the hair too and it just floats. I've been doing the LCO moisturizing method for a while but after watching one of your previous videos I realized I need to just try the LB method that you use. My hair takes forever to dry unless I wash it without deep conditioning and moisturizing after, then it dries fairly quickly and very crunchy/brittle.
I think my hair is medium to high porosity, it has characteristics that leans more to the high side but not extreme if that makes sense. Also my hair is fine and prone to single strand knots and can get frizzy real quick (I do have type 4 hair btw and I think type 4c). We should keep in mind too that the thickness of our strands can also contribute to the type of products we prefer ie butters vs creams, that can cause you to think you have one porosity over another. So we have to basically combine all the characteristics of our hair and just do what it likes. Hope I’m making sense lol
Now I see it in a different view😳 It never occurred to me that the temperature of water gives different porosity results. Thank you, I've definitely learned something new!! My hair has low porosity. No wonder at some point I had flaky scalp cuz of thick oils!! I also realized warm/hot water helps my hair. Cold water makes it too hard.
@Jennjackson, thank you for the video. I've just done the test, and my child and I have high porosity hair. What are the step by step routine that we can do to look after our 4c hair? I also love to hear what products I need in maintaining our hair. We have fallen off the wagon and need all the help... can you help? Please thank in advance.
My hair porosity is high porosity. Had the same problem with the float test for awhile and thought I was low porosity for long time. Also agree 100% and more about not all high porosity hair is damaged hair. I have never processed my hair chemically nor heat. Have been trying hair care advice for sometime now and hasl seen so much improvement but breakage is an ingoing problem. Can't figure what else to do.
wow very very informational. I did the test a few weeks ago and it at first it sinked down but i let it seat for a few minutes it went all the way up. but personally i think i have low porosity because its very hard for my hair to get moisturized. Once i started using a heating cap (hothead) its been great
Glad it helped! ouuu... maybe i should I waited after that? I am happy with how i treat my DRY hair so I am not so concerned about porosity. Potato, Pothato! x
Hi hope all is well for you JJ. How so I know what type of hair I have meaning like you have 4C. How do I understand what mine is. Awaiting you kind response
This was helpful, I have spent the last year trying to figure out my porosity. My hair confuses me, I feel like it gets wet fairly quick and once it's wet it heavy and wet, color does take a long time to take.. sounds like low porosity BUT it loves protein ... my hair lives for carols daughter refresh spray . 1st time doing float test it floated 2nd time it sunk to the bottom then floated back up 🙄
Hello. I am not really sure if my hair is low or high porosity. I do notice that after I wash my hair and use the leave in conditioner in layers by the time I get in front of my head I would need to add more water. Should I consider that as drying fast? Because, it is going to take longer to actually be completely dry so that is why I am having doubt about it. Also, I have one question for you. When I have tried to leave my hair with afro style and going out with it, it will shrink with the humidity or if it is rain. So my question will be, this happens because I do not use enough product in my hair? Has the porosity an effect on it as well? Thank you
I have a question. I doubt between normal porosity and high porosity. My hair likes castor oil and oive oil, but hates coonut oil. I do need to remoisturize after about 4 days, and i always keep my hair in twists, but when a remoisturize between washdays, my hair gets frizzy, how do i avoid the frizz? I wash my hair once a week.
Hi Jenn. I'm a new fan here. My hair porosity is high; however, have you heard of hyaluronic acid? They say it's good to add to your deep conditioner to provide more moisture retention. Can you please do a review on this?
Okay I've watched so many UA-cam channels regarding hair porosity. My hair is extremely fine, but it dried very fast it dries very fast. So I think my hair type is high porosity. Very confused
I have high porosity. But my hair breaks easily, and it's kinky coily/curly. Plus I went back to grease and have extreme moisture and growth. I just bought a protein treatment today so hopefully that'll help my strands get thicker and stop breaking off. Is there anything else I need to do?
A clarifying shampoo helps to remove product build up, leaving your hair squeaky clean. FYI - they can be drying but their purpose is to clean your hair thoroughly . x
Hey Miss Jackson! Loved your video! I definitely have high porosity and you know the struggle is real. I just recently trimmed my hair and I've noticed that hair is behaving differently? Not sure if its my imagination or what. I do the LOC method every night but the next day its definitely dry again. Before I trimmed I would moisturize every 2nd or 3rd day.. am I going crazy? I'm thinking cos I didn't use a proper hair scissors on my hair when I trimmed that maybe it's opened up the cuticle even more? Hence why my hair is getting drier quicker?
I'm new to your channel and found your video very informative but I'm still confused on my hair porosity because it takes a while for moisture to get in but it also dries crazy fast I've tried few different tests but never the same results
Great video . I'm having an issue with my hair wondering if anyone can help. i mix henna gloss with my deep condition however after my hair gets dry it becomes very stiff. Any suggestion. Not sure what my porosity is I guess it is low.

I know that I have low to medium porosity! My sister and I have similar hair but she has high porosity. With time when you experienced with your hair you know (mine when I would wash my hair it would take time for the water to penetrate but when it was wet is was)
You probably did all of this already and your hair just doesn’t like ACV, but if you’d like to try again, maybe dilute it more? Been using it every wash day for almost 10 years on my high porosity hair, but I add about a half cup (I eyeball it) of ACV to about 6.5 cups of tepid bottled water. The ACV brand may matter; used regular ol’ Heinz ACV for years before switching to Braggs last year and my hair likes both just fine, but I tried a few other brands along the way and they dried out my hair too
Its a good guide so that you can be more efficient with your hair routine. I kinda wish I was low porosity because water dries IMMEDIATELY from my hair lol
I'm high everywhere but my nape and front area (bangs-straight as a board) Born that way. How do I know, you may ask? I purposely cut my hair very very very short. Watched it grow out and same issue. 90% high, 10% low. My hair is very fine and low density in the back (genetics😫) and medium density everywhere else including front. However since the majority of my hair is high, I moisturize like it's high all over. Not about treating one section different from other. It's hard enough as it is to keep moisture in, let alone, treating different hair types. That's another dilemma- 3 different hair types😒😒😒. I digress😫
LOL oh I feel you! I am sure I have patches that are normal as well like the front of my hair! But i treat it ALL as one (no discrimination here) and moisturize as high all over! Thanks for watching! x
I was confused for a while and even now I still have questions; like no matter how much water, humectants etc I put in my hair my hair just won't absorb it smh 😩. However, when I come out of the shower I feel like as long as my hair isn't dripping wet or immediately twisted/braided/heavy products are used then my hair dries fairly quickly. But I've done the float test on my hair multiple times, with room temp water (both tap and distilled), hair dirty or clean and I've both just let it sit and also gently pushed it under the water and it always float, soo imma go with low porosity lol 😅
LOL I would go with low porosity too if I was you. Just care for your hair the way that "feels" best. Don't worry so much about these terminology and calculations LOL
My stands dry fairly quickly but them roots take for-e-verrr! Lol I guess that makes me low porosity? My hair does like heavy butters l, as long as it doesn't have coconut in it
OK so I did the water test and it suggested I'm low porosity (the strands stayed on the top) however I have high porosity characteristics. By now I I don't know anymore tbh.. If anyone ask me imma just say normal healthy lol
I’ve done a lot of resseardch and seen so many videos and I have characteristics of high and low porosity hair so I really don’t know? Honestly I think I just might be normal porosity 😂
Thanks for this I will try all the test 😁😁😁 but from what u said hmmmm🤔🤔🤔🤔I think am high porosity...... and I will definitely follow u up on Instagram💕
I’m so confused 😩 I think I’m low, but when I get out the shower after washing my hair it dries pretty quick! Water beads up on my hair too. Float toast it was at the top. I have 4C hair too.
Jenn Jackson lol it’s hard to tell because I wear my hair in twists since we’re in quarantine. I wash it weekly, deep condition, and do the LCO method. That’s pretty much it. When I do the LCO method my hair is pretty wet. I squeeze in the water from the shower then do the LCO method. Might try your LB method!
I'm the same! lol Majority of the things mention points me to low but then my hair dries pretty quick and I don't seem to get product build up unless I use grease or gels soo idk for sure but I'm leaning towards low since it does take a while for my hair to absorb water and it does float even after I break the water tension.
Neoagegirl The Maverick lol it’s a struggle girl! I’ve been researching as if I’m going to become a hair blogger lol. I apply the product when my hair is wet so it’s hard to tell. Idk if I’m supposed to apply it while wet or damp. I use warm water to open the cuticles follicles one of them lol
Yaay, my sore eyes are okay so now I'm here I know I have high porosity because well, my hair acts like the desert camel😂😂😂 when it sees water and products just go in. My only problem now is why I'm protein sensitive with high porosity I don't get it, am I doing something wrong? Edit:im just happy, should I be😁, you're high porosity and ur hair is protein sensitive toooooo, I'm not alone👻👻👻👻👻👻👻yayyyyyy, if u could only see the way I'm smiling here😂totally looking like a freak🤣🤣🤣🤣 I use water, leave in which is double moisture😀, butter & oil .
Yes girl you are NOT alone! I felt pressured into using proteins in the past and then I was like .... ok wait a minute! Thats ridiculous. WHO am i trying to impress??? haha
please get a REAL analysis. You can cut a few strands of hair and send them to a specialist. They will analyse them under a microscope. This is the surest way to know two very important information : your porosity and the thickness of your hair strand. You can have low porosity but fine strand and you hair will tolerate protein. But you can have low prosity and coarse hair and you strands will haote protein and maybe even oil and butter. When I had my hair analysis done it change my hair life.

Low porosity but still learning how to deal with it plus only be natural for two years
You can figure it out! Try using lighter products and work your way up to thicker products. x
Thanks for watching! x

Welcome welcome sis ❤️❤️❤️
Hey girl heyyyyy
Girl hey girl x
What types if things are considered proteins? Does this include yogurts and bananas?
Eggs, mayo, and yogurt have proteins if you are looking for natural recipes
@@JennJackson Okay, thank you!
As it relates to low porosity, they still need protein, but a light protein treatment and not as often. Everybody needs some protein.
agreed
My stands dry fairly quickly but them roots take for-e-verrr! Lol I guess that makes me low porosity? My hair does like heavy butters l, as long as it doesn't have coconut in it
As long as there's no coconut, hello hair twin😂
I have high porosity. I have to fight dryness daily.
SAME HERE GIRL! Same here x
I think I have normal going towards the higher side
OK so I did the water test and it suggested I'm low porosity (the strands stayed on the top) however I have high porosity characteristics.
By now I I don't know anymore tbh.. If anyone ask me imma just say normal healthy lol
LMAOOO yesss! I like that x
@@JennJackson lol gurl I'm just watching the video you just uploaded!! Lol
I’ve done a lot of resseardch and seen so many videos and I have characteristics of high and low porosity hair so I really don’t know? Honestly I think I just might be normal porosity 😂
and that's ok!
Thanks for this I will try all the test 😁😁😁 but from what u said hmmmm🤔🤔🤔🤔I think am high porosity...... and I will definitely follow u up on Instagram💕
Yay! Thanks sis! Let me know how your test goes ❤️
I’m hi PO with fine 4b/c strands I have to use low PO products in the LOC or LO methods to avoid product buildup and to retain moisture.
Sounds like you have it figured out! PO isn't everything. What matters most is what your hair likes! x
Jenn Jackson Yes Sis but it took forever to figure it out. I still use butters but only when I’m going to wear a long term protective style.
All damaged hair is high porosity but not all high porosity hair is damaged. Me: shes smart. likes video 😆 ❤️
REAL SMART! lol thanks sis x
😍
I’m so confused 😩 I think I’m low, but when I get out the shower after washing my hair it dries pretty quick! Water beads up on my hair too. Float toast it was at the top. I have 4C hair too.
Girl your hair is all kind of confused! 😅 do you have products build up easily?
I’m normal to low but I feel like summer changes things.
oh definitely! I am a whole new person in the summer, even my skin acts brand new
Yaay, my sore eyes are okay so now I'm here
I know I have high porosity because well, my hair acts like the desert camel😂😂😂 when it sees water and products just go in.
My only problem now is why I'm protein sensitive with high porosity
I don't get it, am I doing something wrong?
Edit:im just happy, should I be😁, you're high porosity and ur hair is protein sensitive toooooo, I'm not alone👻👻👻👻👻👻👻yayyyyyy, if u could only see the way I'm smiling here😂totally looking like a freak🤣🤣🤣🤣
I use water, leave in which is double moisture😀, butter & oil .
Yes girl you are NOT alone! I felt pressured into using proteins in the past and then I was like .... ok wait a minute! Thats ridiculous. WHO am i trying to impress??? haha
@@JennJackson now I think it might be genetic🤔💭, anyway love u❤
Is is possible for someone porosity to change
Yessss
High porosity hair!
Same here 🙌🏽
I'm still confused 😭😭😭
My hair doesn't get dry or wet easily but....
please get a REAL analysis.
