- The Creator Movie Review 2023
The Creator is a 2023 American science fiction film produced and directed by Gareth Edwards, who co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Weitz. It mimics a Korean movie Space Sweepers by Director: Jo Sung-hee. The film stars John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, Allison Janney, and Madeleine Yuna Voyles (in her film debut). Its plot, set in a future impacted by war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, follows an ex-special forces agent who is recruited to hunt down and kill the "Creator", who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war by destroying mankind itself.
Development began in November 2019 when Edwards signed on to direct and write an untitled science fiction project for New Regency and was officially announced in February 2020. He cited Apocalypse Now (1979), Baraka (1992), Blade Runner (1982), Akira (1988), Rain Man (1988), The Hit (1984), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and Paper Moon (1973) as this film's sources of inspiration. Originally titled True Love, it was changed to its current title. Filming began on January 17, 2022 and wrapped on May 30, 2022.

I wish more people would find this movie I will drag anyone I can to see it in theaters. That scene at the end drew tears.
Oh for sure
great review, gareth edwards is a director that is Improving and has potential
For sure
The Creator is a triumph in cinema. Saw it twice in the theaters today.
Glad you loved it!
I agree visually it was very good. Story and characters were my exact problems. I would give it a 3/5 though. I don’t believe I would rush to rewatch.
If only we had awesome characters hey?
Debating whether or not to go and see this movie. My dad is curious, but I am always weary about seeing something that I am not exactly sold on.
Loved your comment about The Marvels, that just made my day.
Thanks for your honest opinion!
Thank you very much! I would say go for it!
I personally felt connected to the main characters, their story worked for me, and I felt invested in John David Washingtons Joshua and Alphie. ,
Sure, so did I… but what’s their personality? What makes them tick? What are their hopes, dreams, traits, etc… I cared about them because they were played by likeable actors in a story world that was interesting
@@BrandoCritic well for Alphie, what gathered as far as hopes and dreams, from her is that she wants the ai, robots and sentinents to be free. as far as Joshua,I'm honestly not sure what his hopes and his dreams are, he seemed entirely focused on finding Mia, and helping protecting Alfie, just seemed like something that was almost maybe ingrained in him to do, even when at first he wasn't caring that much about her.,
Glad you liked it
Always love your honest and inciteful reviews! When it comes out on 4K dvd I hope the DolbyAtmos sound is as good as the movie itself. Enjoyed the vlog!
Do you think there's an extended cut somewhere to make the film even better? I got a sense like so much got cut out ❤
I don't think so... even if there is, we won't hear about it for a long time. The film literally opens today
Fantastic movie!
Glad you loved it!
Will check this film out when it hits my area. First time hearing about this film. Honest thorough review!
Thank you so much!
By the end of the movie, i was yawning nonstop and didnt care if the good guys succeed. I liked washington but the story/weaponis underwhelming
Sorry you had that experience
Thank you for this
My pleasure!
Loved it
Great!
Haven't seen this yet. Gareth Edwards is an evocative aestheticist - which I do appreciate - however it remains to be seen if he's much of a dramatist outside of selling the scale of something that looks sprawling.
Got it! Well, I hope you like the movie
Last 1/3 needs to let things play out. So many big things happens. Maybe longer home home release. He started off with a 5 hour cut. The world is realized enough to see more of it.
I think I understand what you mean...
Honestly I think your review sold me on the movie more than the trailers did.
Well, if you see it, I hope you like it
Awesome film! The Marvels looks okay to me.
Oh boy... I don't know about that...
While movies story is not anything new, but i thought it was visually stunning and gorgeous looking sci-fi action movie and i really enjoyed this movie.
Great review Brandon and take care and stay safe 👍.
Couldn't agree more!
@@BrandoCritic Right on 👍.
Ok I’m just tryna ignore the snails here for a minute but that’s so wholesome when the gp smiled
"ignore the snails"?
I knew the kid actor was going to bring the emotion. Bring tissues ❤😊
People in my audience cried
@@BrandoCritic Same.
The visuals were amazing and inventive. I can’t say the same about the writing. It felt like a refuge story was turned into robots, completely ignoring computers don’t think like us. And if computers do become sentient and elect to have emotions and program PAIN into their code, then I want that shown. That would have elevated the writing. If not for the visuals I would have walked out. Three young guys left, I think out of boredom. I don’t think this movie will do well.
This movie won’t do well. I even said that haha
Cool review of the creator Brandon I might check it out just on your review of it I hope you're doing well with your new job and all. Do you plan to see Saw X and do a review of it? I don't know if the Saw movies are your thing I was just asking
I’ve never seen any Saw movies
@@BrandoCritic Oh ok
Hey you should definitely check out blade runner 2049 and Tron Legacy. Nice review really looking forward to it.
I've seen both of them!
@@BrandoCritic How would you grade them? What do you think?
3/5 for Tron and 2/5 for Blade Runner 2049. Tron was filmed in my hometown and love the style. Story is very basic. 2049 is visually stunning, but I found it to be extremely boring and pretentious
@@BrandoCritic I didn't really like the first blade runner but I'm looking forward to seeing the second. Tron Legacy I saw last night and enjoyed.
That's good!
I hope it’s doesn’t tank at the box office. I thought it was better than Avatar 2, cinematically as well, less cartoonish.
I’ve promoted this movie all over social media to get people to watch it, I’m fed up of Marvel rubbish and we need more original, amazing movies like this!
I agree we need more original stuff like this, but I don't think this will do well unfortunately. Just not enough interest
Jaw droopingly bad. The Golden Child is an AI with machine Chi! lol
Kind of ripping off a bunch of sci-fi movies . They speak Vietnamese, Japanese, & Thai. Songs are in Chinese & Japanese ??? This turkey will bomb hard I think.
Haha I think the only think “jaw-dropping” here is your spelling 😂
thinking of going to see it in xd soon like in 30 minutes cus love sci fi movies and bored af.
Hahaha clearly... you're watching my videos
This and the new murder movie, which would you recommend?
Haunting in Venice? Oh, this!
@@BrandoCritic Great! Thanks man!
No problem!
@@BrandoCritic just finished the film, and by god, it is beautifully shot, but what I loved most about it was it’s exploration of spirituality and what makes you human. Do flesh and blood make you human, or is there something more to it?
@@BrandoCriticboth haunting in Venice and the creator were great films!
6’8??
Yes sir
Visually stunning but the Vietnam+War on Terror symbolism is just total crap imo. The storytelling is crap 💩
Could you please elaborate
It’s a lazy criticism when saying “its just like…”
It's more like a comparison...
I find Rogue One to be really boring so I really appreciate your comparison. It would be a bad idea for me to go watch this.
That’s too bad
@@BrandoCritic Yeah, it's weird because I really enjoyed Andor, so when I went back and tried to watch Rogue One again, it disappointed.
Bad movie takes so long to get to main character then is explosion and chase one after another use of two many languages and subtitles to much melodrama and a bad ending oh I for got hanz zimmer over blown synthesizer
Sorry you didn’t like it
