  • Adjusting the valves, or valve lash is an important bit of routine maintance that is often overlooked by many owners, in this video i show how to adjust the valves and show the steps to make sure you do it right.
Correction, the feeler i used on the intake was .127mm not 27 thousandths.
there are a few essential tools to do the job correctly, you will need a 10 mm stubby wrench ( i used harbor feright's as they are a supper cheep option that works well) and a set of 45 degree feeler guages available here:

Check the throttle plate in the carb. Make sure both move with throttle input, also check the choke, if it gets stuck on one side that could cause the issue, but pull the carb off and make sure while cranking you have good vacuum on both sides. If you do the problem is in the carb.

As long as the final when you are done is in spec, it's all good.

How the hell did you get the front fenders off without taking the lights off ? 2001 must be a bit different. 12 years ago, I was also under the impression that I had to take out the sparkplug to get it to turn.

I just unbolted them? I've never serviced an ATV prior to this one so I'm not sure if there might be a better or easier way to disassemble the plastics. Removing the spark plug will definitely reduce the resistance to turning the engine but it's certainly not necessary.

    .027 is 27,000ths
    .00027 is just under 3,000ths,
Your reading your gauge wrong by stating 27,000ths, Thats wayyyyyy too loose
