This would make a great “app” for a smartphone . I can’t afford $400 CDN for a light up calendar, but I sure wish I could support you, because you’re sooo awesome, absolutely hilarious and adorable. Maybe an app would be something that so many more people could benefit from. And the ability to Gold Star a few things in a day. Like meditate, workout etc. So in the app you could have perhaps 4 to 6 things that you can track. Oh, and a different coloured Stars, the ability to filter your results and see how often you played that instrument or actually worked out. The app is also portable so when you’re on vacation or away for a long weekend, you can still keep tabs on your positive habits. And obviously, you need an annoying screen banner that pops up to remind you that you haven’t fulfilled your goal yet. It’s all good, particularly for a person who is serious about making change in their life.
Just thinking out loud. Love your channel, and adore you to pieces!

There is a benefit to having a real, tangible, ever present thing there. It serves as a reminder and as encouragement the way an app you can simply chose not to open can't.

For my wife one of her daily things was time alone or time for her. She would try to take on so much it would just consume her. Then not getting everything done she wanted to would add to the stress. After that she started on daily tasks. Like walk the dog or laundry. Basically things that were important (to her)but she wanted to get done. That way it gave her an objective without feeling like she had to take everything on all at once. Hope this kind of helps.

    Hey Simone,
I have been watching your stuff for quite some time now, but this is my first time commenting. I am reacting to your reservation about selling your product and profiting off your subscribers. Though I find it endearing, you should never feel guilty about making money in an honest way. It is evident by the reaction that you are getting already on kickstarter that you are making a new and innovative product that people want to purchase. That is an awesome thing! You deserve every dollar you make for your hard work and creativity.
On a side note, I have a 3 month old daughter that I cannot wait to share your channel with. Selfishly I hope that I can create a companion for myself in the workshop, and not so selfishly I just hope to inspire her to be creative and have a passion for something just like you. Maybe I will use the new calendar to check off the days that I can inspire her to try something new, that she has never done before.
    Keep up the good work,
Skylar and I will be watching!

This was one of my first thoughts too, but now I'm sort of conflicted about it. There is a certain zen-like quality to it being limited to only one, narrow function, that I think might be important in making it work (for me anyway). If you keep iterating along the lines of increased functionality eventually you end up with a smartphone. I have one of those, with lots of apps for organization and making habits, but they always fail for me eventually. I'm thinking now that if I had three habits that I wanted to develop, not being able to push the button until I did all of them might be more effective.

Hi Simone! I’m not typically a person to comment on UA-cam, but your anxiety that people would think you were just money-grubbing reached me.
From a young age I have had a love for taking things apart and putting them together, and eventually engineering. Just at a glance this product is BEAUTIFUL! for someone with a love of components, but it is extremely functional and versatile too and I think it can help a lot of people achieve their goals. That is an amazing thing to put out in the world, and you should be proud of it!

The idea is that you'd write a habit on a card, put this in the slot on your machine and it would show the tracker calendar for that tag. Want to start a new habit, grab a new card and put it in the slot.

It's a great idea. Don't feel like you need to apologize for coming up with a great product. I'll check out your kickstarter. Good luck!

Great idea Simone, and it also looks really nice!
Here are a couple of points I would improve in the current design:
    - You are using two large PCBs, the front one is a must, but the second one is wasted; what I mean is that most of the area is unused. What I would do is either put the LEDs on the back of the front PCB, or make LED strips that are 31 days long, and then plug them side by side. The quantity of the strips will make that back PCB a lot cheaper, however, my preference is to fit the components to the back of the front PCB.
    - Power consumption is an issue here, especially when you get towards the end of the year. Assuming a 30mA@3V per LED you are around 30W of power. I know it isn't much, but we should try to use less power if we can. I would suggest multiplexing the LEDs so that you won't have more than one LED on at a time (0.1W), although to the human eye, it will look like all the LEDs are permanently on. I know that the electronics will be a little bit more complicated, but at least your conscience will feel a little bit better about becoming a millionaire (just kidding). Before anyone complains, the single LED power consumption figure will be actually higher due to the fact that to be able to have the same brightness, more current will have to be pumped through the LED. That figure depends entirely on the refresh rate and the type of LED used.
One last thought, don't feel guilty for trying to sell a product that is unique, useful to some people, and most of all looks good. Money earned through hard work and creativity is the one that is worth the most.

It actually triggers me so hard that Feb just has 28 days. Every 4 year you will be like - damn it, what should I do now it's the 29th february and now my entire life makes no sense anymore!
But I love it, it's so beautiful! I might buy it.❤
