Thank you Georgia for your excellent videos and explanations, I have just completed my first successful split chain complete with picots so am feeling very pleased with myself and my confidence is growing x

Since I'm not an accomplished shuttle tatter I wasn't real sure how to do a split chain with a shuttle. It's really easy with the needle but envisioning it with a shuttle was a bit daunting. You made it easy to understand. I especially like how you show the extra tips and hints about how to keep the stitches where they should be. Thank you for this video. I think even I can do this now. :)
Thanks so much for this video tutorial and for your channel. I was trying to learn this from a 'beginner's' book and got stuck. You really simplified this technique.
Thank you for watching. We also have live classes if your interested. Just contact us at theonlinetattingclass@gmail.com and we will get you enrolled. Happy Tatting

What if you want the chain to be all the same color? Not one half purple and one half pink? Is the only way to get the full chain the same color to us the same color thread in both shuttles?
Thank you so much for your video. I have a question though. You do the first part of your chain doing the 2nd half of a stitch first, and then the first….so does that affect how you did the 2nd half of the split chain. Would it be done differently if the in the 1st half of the split chain the stitches would be done 1st half of a stitch followed by 2nd half of stitch?
The reason you start with the 2nd half first is so that the stitches look the same on both sides of the split chain. When doing the split ring it has the same affect. Hope that helps you. Happy Tatting and Thank you for your kind comments.
so... you mention to be careful and watch that you don't end up with 2 colors of chain.... so what's the fix for that? or can you only do the split chain if you are using the same color on both ring and chain? thanx :)
It is just a guestimate really. With practice and patience you will learn it. I always use less than I need so when it stretches out it looks even. Hope that helps. Happy Tatting
+Deborah Conrad Hi Deborah. I am not Georgia. I just make the videos for the classes for her. She is an absolute dream of a teacher and everything I have learned has come from her classes. I teach on the videos as per her instruction. I do appreciate the thought though. Happy Tatting
Hi Rena. The split chain is usually used when moving from one round out to the next. The split chain is usually followed by a mock picot going into a split ring or straight into a split ring. I helps to prevent cutting the thread hiding the ends and starting a new round with more ends to hide. I hope that helps you. If you have any further questions please let me know. Happy Tatting
Hello Irene and thank you for watching. I am so sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. I have just been notified of your comment. Sometimes the internet isn't as fast as it needs to be. LOL. Anyway I wanted to answer you and let you know you would put a picot in the same way as on a regular chain by using either a picot gauge or guestimating the size of the picot to match the others. I hope that helps you and again I am so sorry about the notification lag. Happy Tatting
Hey I realy like your videos, I am trying to write a pattern myself and now I have a split chain but how do you write them? I know the symbol is /and after that you say were to join and after that you discribe the stitches, but the stitches after the split are worked from right to left so if i want 2ds then a picot and then 4ds (seen froom left to right). Do i have to write it the way you work so first the stitches on the right or just write it from left to right? :)
Hi Peppergeelen. When writting a pattern for a split chain you would write it as follows for a pattern of 3 ds seperated by a picot then the split chain would read as follows. CH 3-3/3-3. I hope that helps you. Happy Tatting
Georgia Seitz Online Beginning Shuttle Tatting Class hi I understand what you say but wat if I want after the split 3ds and then a picot and then 4ds woud it be 3-3/3-4 or 3-3/4-3 because you will tat those 4ds first :)
if your going to tat the split as 3 double stitches a picot and 3 double stitches then split following with 3 double stitches a picot then 4 double stitches then it would be the first way you wrote it. 3-3/3-4. Happy Tatting
Thank you Georgia ❤ so easy to understand, I get back to this video every time when I need a refresher on a split chain!
Your videos are brilliant and need to be at a slow pace. Thank you so much for them.

Thank you, Georgia! I'm glad I realized in time that a split chain would address my issue and found your video so that I could make one later today!

How do you gauge how much thread to leave for the second half of the chain? Or is it one of those things that you just have to learn over time?
It is just a guestimate really. With practice and patience you will learn it. I always use less than I need so when it stretches out it looks even. Hope that helps. Happy Tatting
You are such an amazing teacher. I love your videos. This really helped me with the split chain. I kept knotting it up. Thank you!

You are the best!!! Thanks
