  • Split chains have more of a technical aspect to them than a design aspect. They can be used to climb from one round to another; without the need to cut and hide tails.

    I have been stuck going bananas trying to jump out of a round, and it wasn’t until I tatted along with you in this video that I finally had an aha moment. Thanks for your first class teaching abilities!

    Your videos are so helpful. I used to tat almost every day, but the past couple of years after my mother needed constant in home care I fell out of it. I recently was rummaging through some of the boxes I brought with me when I moved in to take care of mom and found a bunch of my tatting shuttles and threads. And I REALLY feel like tatting again. I am so unbelievably rusty, all the more advanced techniques that I used to do without a second thought have now escaped me and I have to watch videos to remind myself how to do them. I am so grateful for your channel, I'm going to do one of your tat-a-longs to get back into the swing of it. Thank you so much for sharing your skills so generously, I am so grateful. I have some of your tatting patterns from Etsy as well, they are wonderful. You are so talented!

      @@NooBearAus I will have to see if I can get back on Facebook. I used to have an active account, but it seemed to become so toxic, at least on accounts here in the USA so I stopped posting or even going to it. If I can figure out how to get back in I will definitely join your group!!! I love your work so much and am getting back into my crafts, especially tatting. I have a nice stash of threads and lots of shuttles, so I have no excuse for not getting back to it! I am watching more of your videos tonight!

      I agree. Unfortunately there are still toxic people in different groups, I have learnt to ignore (or block😆) I don't need people like that in my life.
      Unfortunately FB is a big part of what I do..so I 'need it'.
      I'm so glad you are enjoying my videos and my work - it means a lot!❤❤

    Thank you for sharing Monique. It's been so long since I've done a split chain so it was lovely to have a refresher. You make it look so easy. Blessings

    Is that basically a Catherine Wheel join repeating?

      I'd never thought of it in that way, but I guess it is! Obviously without the join. 😉

    Grazie mille del video ❤ volevo chiedere, gentilmente, nello stesso modo si può fare anche un arco intero, se lo schema richiede di continuare il lavoro dal inizio dell'arco e non dalla metà? Grazie della risposta

      Do you mean a normal chain? See if this helps you.

    How do you know when the pattern should have split chains? Is it when you have another round that connects in the middle of the chain?

    • @NooBearAus
      @NooBearAus  Рік тому +1

      The pattern might have two or three rounds of chains - like my Clara Doily. Even then, you don't HAVE to work split chains, you can cut and tie each round if you prefer... but most tatters hate ends so will opt to work a split chain, using it to climb out to the next round.
      The split doesn't have to be in the middle, and it will depend on what the element is in the following round as to whether a split chain is possible.

      Thank you! At the moment I don't have a video on split chains with a picot - I will put it on my list of ones to make. 😊
