This was very interesting. I have watched a lot of needle tatting videos and the shuttle self closing mock ring looks like how needle tatters do a ring. They knot at the end of each ring.
Hi Michelle, I am so pleased you have messaged me again. I think it was you (gee, I hope I'm right! hehe) who pointed out my mistake in the up join/down join video? I wanted to let you know that I have re done the video; but I couldn't remember your surname, and I wasn't able to find the original message. Seeing your name here has jogged the old memory! I must confess that I don't know much about needle tatting. Do you tat with both needle and shuttle?
@@NooBearAus It was me that you are thinking of. I am just recently trying to learn tatting. I started watching videos on UA-cam and thought needle tatting looked easier than shuttle, but every pattern I ran across was for shuttle and I had a hard time (being inexperienced) converting from shuttle to needle. I have practiced some with needle tatting and am going to start practicing shuttle tatting this weekend! I watched other videos from other shuttle tatters and came across yours just the other day. You are a blessing to a novice! You explain things really well and you have shown things (like the magic threads) that I have not come across. Thank you so much! I am going to rewatch all your videos and take notes and tat along.
That's great! Thank you for such lovely comments, I am genuinely thrilled that you find my videos helpful. At least now when you watch the video on joins it is correct!🤣 Please feel free to contact me if you need help with any of your shuttle tatting. My channel is reasonably new, but I am slowly building the library.
So if I understand correctly, a mock picot cannot be made in the "middle" of making a ring, instead of a regular picot (because then the ring couldn't be continued nor closed), but it's possible to be included when making a chain(or between 2 element, like 2 chains or a chain and a ring),you would just have "locked" the stitches you've made so far, right? And also, if a mock ring is used to go to the next, more often than not "outer", round why not use a regular ring, as they both close back to their starting point? Always thank you for reading and taking time to answer me Christina :)
Correct. A mock picot needs to be at the end making the ring. I've never seen a mock picot on a chain - the working thread loops to make the picot - if you try to make a mock picot on a chain you'll see that you you'll end up with a 'horizontal picot' off the end of the chain - not a vertical picot from the top of the chain. Again, I would like you to play with these things yourself as doing it can clarify what you think will happen - seeing it work (or not work, as the case may be! 🤣) helps you to learn. Mock rings are used in many different situations, so yes - you can use a regular ring to climb to the outer round, but it depends on what the design of the pattern is.
Thank you for these tatting videos, they have helped me out a lot. I wonder if you can show us how to do a SCMR using two shuttles with two different color threads and how to tat over the tails? Thank you again.
Hi Cathleen, So glad you're enjoying the videos! Are you wanting to go from a scmr into a chain, and have the ring and chain two different colours? Are you specifically wanting a scmr - or just a ring?
Yes I am having a hard time tatting a SCMR and going into a chain with a mock picot. If you look at Renulek’s 2021 spring doily I think that is how you would tat the second round. I was going to try just a ring with a mock picot on the chain to see if that worked also. I obviously do not understand how mock rings and a mock picot on the chain work yet but I will keep trying! Thank you for such a quick reply.
@cathleen white Round 2 is a normal ring, you don't need a scmr. Start with the middle ring; work your chains and rings around the outside of the middle ring, then the chain that connects back to round 1. You are welcome to pm me if you need help.
Very informative video! Thanks tons and bunches!
That's terrific! So good you're enjoying the videos
I'm so excited. I figured these things out by myself! However, it would have been easier to watch this first.
😀
Excellent!
V useful and well demonstrated as always😍🙋♀️
😁 Thank you!

Well, it would appear that I have, accidently, frustratingly so, become proficient at tatting mock picots...hehehe
ooooh noooo........ hehe
