This Halo elite is forgotten about by many; mostly because while he turns up in Halo Combat Evolved's story, he isn't present in game, the Master Chief is just one step ahead of him.

I love how it tells it in the book too. Roughly as the pod is making its way to the planet as the elite is standing there Keyes as you described noticed the SLIGHTEST shimmer from the stealth field around the elite so he casually looks to a marine and says something along the lines of “marine, can I borrow you side arm for a moment?” The marine hands him the pistol and again as said places 3 shots center mass of the elites skull looks back to the marine and hands it back to him saying something like “appreciated private” while they All stare dumbfounded at the corpse
"That thing works pretty well. Don't forget to reload it."
I love that so much
imagine he misses the elite and makes a hole in the pod and they all just die
jfc 😂 that's, god imagine being one of those guys looking at the corpse like how in the fuck?
@@AHHHH__pretty sure every marine thought he was trying to kill them after hearing the first shot
I find it funny that a 9 foot alien trying to squeeze into an escape that master chief a 7 foot human could barely fit in
The elites are only 2 inches taller than him and they are very agile
@@cia9506 no way man, in most of the games elites are much bigger than the chief.

@@cia9506i think lore was cheif is 7ft in armor well an elite without armor naturally stands 8 and a 1/2 to 9 ft but then again i may be misremembering stuff
Like they wouldn't be different sizes? You could assume because he's basically a spy elite he was a small slim one.
I like to imagine keyes thinking "I thought something funny was going on here" before absolutely doming him
lol im like 99.9% sure thats exactly what he was thinking
"You know its considered rude among Humans to not say hello when following them"
I like to think Keyes knew he was there the whole time. Just let it happen and then shot him😂
Imagine if Keyes was wrong and he just doomed his crew by compromising that pod.
@@ethanwagner6418 That was mentioned in the book. Keyes wonders to himself if the slug from the pistol is enough to punch through the hull of the pod, but either way the Covenant son of a bitch on board was going to die.
I'm surprised the magnum was loaded
Well it wasn't his so makes sense haha
They mustve found ammo as they went
No one here chose to think about the context? They were under attack and took escape pods, in the Air Force, when you eject out of the cockpit you have a weapon with you, a GAU-5A during Vietnam or a sidearm. Remember the UNSC is often over alien planets during battles so the pods are landing in dangerous zones, even in one of the games several marines died from the flood as they arrived.
@@retnuh3144 it was a joke based on Keye's dialogue when he hands chief a magnum at the beginning of the mission. You taking this shit way to seriously, relax.
@@m4x927 You can’t even be honest with yourself that you know they answered with their honest thoughts.
Damn i thought you were about to tell the story of the elite and grunt that secretly hunt you down.. but this is awsome
That is a cool story, but this one is something else
Yeah everyone knows about the Spec-Ops Elite who tries his best to stop you at every opportunity throughout the game, only for his epic final showdown to just end with him being annihilated instantly by a grenade
nah i was confused thinking that at first myself but that elite does show up once in game i think
That elite shows up on The Maw on heroic or Legendary. In that elevator that goes down to the warthog run. He dies the same way in game as he dies in the book. Grenade spam.
@@bencurran3204No he does not. All the halo the Flood characters are not in the game.
All the Spec Ops Elites on Maw are just that, generic Spec Ops. 😊
I think the elite accidentally took invisible spray from SpongeBob
The invisibility spray would literally be more useful than any active camo
Would explain why we never see him in the level Active Camo sucks I can see elites all the time with that and of course pulling out a weapon is even dumber just bash me in the skull you have a better chance 💀
or dog man
bro the camo is basically as effective as the camo in Destiny 2 lmfao
easy to deal with in one game if you've played the other
The spray says it does not stop burglars. Which is a shame, because Keyes stole his stupid ass with that magnum 😂
Shout out to yayap who drove into the sunset when the ring was about to explode o7
One of the greatest grunts in halo, i felt happy he died feeling at peace at least
not to mention stealing truths crown
He made his own Great Journey. o7
I remember Yayap but I don't remember any of this. Last time I read that book was in early 2005. Might be time to revisit them.
You should probably get a wav file of wort wort wort
Okay but like how creepy is it to know that Elites those 9 foot tall squid-faced Dino’s can literally stalk you so closely and without being detected, until you’re literally within like 10 feet of them. That shits impressive makes you wonder what the Silent Shadows are capable of.
They’re in the comics
Captain Keyes was so badass in that book. He just calmly asked a marine who his pistol and shot what looked like thin air until the body of the elite materialised and slumped to the floor, then carefully handed it back to the marine. Absolute unit!
it didnt just materialize the active camo goes away to show the body

Really wish they’d have continued making novelizations of the games.
I’d love to see 2 and 3’s story expanded similarly to CE’s in The Flood.
The blame goes to Bungie on that one, they apparently weren’t fans of them.
@@HeroAndReporter Yeah, I’m aware.
Bungie didn’t want books really at all, where as 343i explains most of the story and kills off player characters through them. Lol

There was another elite during CE who was actively trying to kill the chief after surving him during the pillar of autumn mission
We do see him right at the end of the game when chief is overloading the pillars cores and just before chief enters the elevator

Halo: The Flood book really was awesome.
That’s another level of badassery.
"I don't keep it loaded son, you'll have to find ammo as you go"
Can you do a short about the legendary grunt Nikosis next?
I always wondered if the elite Sgt Johnson hugs when the first halo is destroyed and you best the game on legendary had a story bc Johnson survived so that elite probly did too. And its hilarious how he hugs Johnson and grabs his ass, like I'm bought to die might as well get a action before I go.😆

Sadly that is just a joke, the thing is so weird that one of the developers in 2004 (if i remenber correctly)said, "that is not stg jhonnson is his long lost twin brother the stg Jhuannson"
What's even better is that they both go for a bit of action depending on the version. In the original the Elite grabs Johnson's ass, but in the remaster Johnson grabs the Elite's ass.

The flood book is great and adds so much lore to combat evolved
I like how captain Keyes did it casually and was like aight back to business lads
He’s from the book
Bruh, he literally said that at the end of the short. How low is your attention span, bud? Did you even bother watching the entire short?
I feel like if I was that elite, I would have just killed Keyes while he was unarmed, then deal with those incompetent marines
He could have. Should have. But his mission was to capture a high ranking member on the unsc.
For Elites, killing an unarmed enemy could be a stain on their honor. Doubtful they would unless it were the only option.
The marines are invincible and canonically close the door and kill the Chief in a Alternate Timeline. I don't think that elite stands a chance.
If you’ve ever shot Keyes you know that elite would not stand a chance
I love everything about the flood. The back ground characters, the spec ops elite on the elevator at the end of the game, the survivors and Alpha base, it was all so cool
I’m only surprised the H1 magnum didn’t absolutely blow a hole in the side of the pod in the process
Do elites not make giant ass footstep sounds? Make it make sense.
I always assumed the stealth field also had a sound dampening field
I don’t think you can hear the footsteps of stealth elites in-game.
Now I can sleep at night.@@grinchiestgrinch7289
Well, he probably just walked inside the pod before the doors shut- and the Pillar was casually just exploding at the time so... Good luck hearing anything
The invisibility in Halo Reach did muffle what we hear, so I assume that it canonically does that.
That scene stayed with me reading the book at 13. I knew EXACTLY what you were talking about as soon as I heard about an Elite on the POA.
I'm 33 and I still think that's in my Top Ten Badass Lines Before The Kill
Yet another example of Keyes being an absolute Chad
Ik mans was sweating when master chief entered the room
I can just imagine an alternative version to this where one of the soldiers gets up for some reason and steps on the elite's nuts.
There may not be air in space for sound to travel on, but the loud WAAAAAAAAAGHHG! could be heard as far as Reach.
Rip and i remember that from when i read the books over half a decade ago sad he wasn't around long
For his sacrifice. Wort wort wort. You will be missed brother
I remember reading that book luckily enough. I didn’t know it was that exactly!
Zuka Zamamee is another named elite that doesn't get remembered often, despite his appearance on legendary during the detonation of the Autumn's core.
He appears on the freight elevator with a couple grunts manning a plasma turret, wearing the commando black clad armor. This is one of several ambushes this particular elite orchestrates in his quest to regain his honor after being effortlessly defeated by the master chief during the opening mission, but survived because of a cowardly grunt seeing this as his way off the ship to safety, away from danger. Unfortunately for him, he ended up bound to the elite's persistent pursuit of vengeance.
There are several ambushes in game that are directly tied to him, including your second encounter with hunters on the cartographer level as you enter the structure.
Keys is Goated, not only did he notice a camo shimmer and accurately fired on the Elite, but he managed to fire an unloaded Magnum that he'd already handed off to the Chief only a short while ago.
He was just doing his job and just got shot and the Covent are like ok he is dead

He is incredibly perceptive to notice the shimmer in such a high stress situation.
This along with a multitude of other reasons is why Keyes was classed by Lord Hood as one of the best in the Navy
Good god that must be at least a little scary, imagine a random invisible alien stalking you and you can't see them
I remember that from the book. Theres also another elite we dont see that got knocked out amd returned ro the boardinf craft by a grunt, as a way to avoid the fighting. Said grunt gets promoted and pulled along as said elite tries to hunt down chief, culminating in the elevator ambush after setting the autumns engines to blow in the final level

Dude that is one of the coolest things I’ve learned all day I appreciate this video🤝🏻
Glad you liked it! Thanks for your appreication
Captain Keyes was one hell of a SOB, damn
Zuka Zamamee’s story in that same book is also super interesting! You fight him in game as well!
Captain Keys was on the bathroom when he was surprised to hear “wort wort”
I read about this in the book he mentioned at the end while I was away from home 5 months ago
Imagine being keys taking a piss and you just hear "wort wort" from one of the stalls and nothing's there😂
9 foot elite, in an escape pod, obviously standing in front of everyone, shimmering: hehe you cant see me
My friend made a joke about this and now I'm obsessed with the idea that Keyes knew about the elite the whole time and just wanted to look cool for the marines
so much detailed lore in halo the writers had a great time
I have a weird memory running into an invisible elite in the back of one of the breaching pods, but I've never seen him past that memory or ever again so it's one memory I think i can confirm got inserted thanks to the book and isn't real
I knew about this elite, i read its story on the book, later on the covenant found its cropse in the crashed scape pod, and because of this, the covenant could track down Capitain Keyes.
Three shots. No more, no less.
The writer knew their Halo.
"important to the plot"
"got shot before he could do anything"
I remember playing Halo CE for the first time. When that Marine is shooting at you before you find out about the flood, made me think Captain Keyes was going to be the bad guy. But in the end he wasn't.
I read those books. FALL OF REACH summer leading up to Xbox release. And Halo The Flood shortly after. Very different writing styles, but both very good at telling in universe stories. In the flood novel, there's a chapter whew the Marines shot a bunch of rockets at once that still lives rent free in my head
After the first Magnum round: "I've taken a grieeeeevous wooound!"
Keys knew he was being follow by the elite the whole time
I read that book on my first LG phone they make some cool Halo books.
One of the few things I never knew about Halo Lore. Thank you. I always thought Keyes went down with the Autumn and never went to an escape pod.
This Elite's so nice to not have activated his shield.
I read that book a couple times, it's pretty darn good
I read that book in 2002, and i don't remember it, but then again it's been a long time.
