I PROMISED SOME LORE, AND HERE IT IS! A chunky, meaty, JUICY lore video about a Spec-ops Elite-unfortunate Grunt tag team, who, in secrecy, were hunting you during Halo: Combat Evolved... Enjoy fellas!
HiddenXperia F to my grunty boi 😥
...Wait, then who is the Elite in the Shade that you encounter during the Warthog run? Cortana even says "Looks like someone's been tracking you." I always thought that was Zuka. Maybe he was originally supposed to be on the elevator in earlier builds of the game, but got moved for Reasons?
This was based on the book, what was it called, I can't remember but it is really really good
I love your videos but this one truly made me crie for the two

Zuka, arriving to face Chief for the final showdown: Hey.
Chief: Hey
*Pulls out rocket launcher*
Zuka: What?!
Mobius 1! What are you doing here? Are you taking a day off after the Continental War?
Say hello to my little friend
Also chief: *I am 4 alternate universes ahead of you.*
NANI?
You could almost say... A Bazooka for Zuka
It's amazing how Bungie gave a single elite that the Chief literally killed in seconds (i.e. smashed over the head with a shotgun buttstock) a full background story. Kind of sad. The guy was just another number to Chief. Nothing more than a slight speedbump for his progress. Guy's career, life, and honor were all on the line, and the single most important thing in the world for him was killing The Big Green Demon. Chief didn't even know or care who he was and just beat his corpse over and over to paint the elevator blue while waiting for it to reach the top floor out of boredom. Or at least that's what _I_ made him do lol.
I also t-bagged him a bunch. I was ten years old. I'm allowed this.
Don't forget the teabaggin' after he killed him
Not really. I read that book he was in and it was the Halo:CE tie-in novel. It wasn't very good since it just straight-up ripped the events of the game into book form and was mostly a blow-for-blow, Master Chief shot, that, shot this, did that. And there was only this side story about Zuka and some Grunt he commanded as a side story for some variety.
@@afqwa423 Tbf, we only really care about Chief killing things in quantitative and qualitative extremes. It's all about that superhuman bodycount.
@@BigPuddin
Believe you me, that one book was about as tedious as me narrating a Let's Play of each level. Probably the only good parts were the added subplots of one of the infected UNSC marines and the Elite seeking a vendetta against Master Chief.
If you read no other book in the Halo universe, you read _Fall of Reach_ since Eric Nylund set up a lot of the groundwork for the modern Halo plotlines. He's the one that invented Catherine Halsey as this morally ambiguous mother of the SPARTAN program and characterized John-117 as this wind-up toy soldier who has this conflict between his humanity and his military indoctrination. John thinks of himself as a servant of humanity at-large, and in the value of an individual human life, but this also means he cannot be an apolitical agent when it comes to ONI or the UNSC's goals.
@@afqwa423 Chief is really only interesting to me as a vehicle for shooting things. Preferably aliens, but I'm a settler at heart. All other drama and superfluous details are mere set dressing for cyborg murder.
Interesting fact: by being Zuka’s assistant, Yayap was promoted to a rank above Jackal, making him one of the highest ranking grunts ever.
Cool😊😊😊
Wait, is he canon?
I don't know about during the Human-Covenant war, but this isn't true for the postwar period, at least; Rtas Vadum (the Shipmaster with the cut off mandibles from Halo 2/3) had a grunt ranked above some Elites even on his ship, the Shadow of Intent, after the events of Halo 3.
Technically not if Zuka had a main assistant what was stopping any other elites from having their own assistants. But Yayap is the only grunt assistant named so far. We also need to take into account of Spec Ops grunts and other high ranking grunts.
Then you just come in and one shot
Zuka: You shot me in the head, killed my squad, and destroyed my assistant
Master Chief: Do you have any idea how low that narrows it

I’m surprised that you skipped the part at the beginning of CE where chief walks through the control room on the Pillar of Autumn above his stasis chamber and you see 4 elites tearing a part the room cursing that the demon has gotten away. This might have been locked away in legendary, but I think it's a fair edition to this lore.

"Other soldiers might engage their enemies with contempt or hatred. Other soldiers might want to kill as many enemies as they can because they feel like their fight is personal, as if killing the enemy will make them feel better. That's where I'm different. I don't hate any enemy I fight. Covenant, Flood, Forerunners. I don't hate a single one of them. I don't hate them because just like me, they have a job to do. It's just theirs comes into direct opposition with mine. That's why I have to fight them. This Elite? He may have been trying to eliminate me, but that's only because it was his mission, his purpose. Open the elevator door slightly and throw a shit ton of grenades out.
More people who can't figure out how to deal with Jackal snipers. Use corners and always keep a proper ranged weapon (Carbine, Battle rifle, beam rifle, etc) on your person. Either counter snipe them or rapidly dump a magazine of carbine/battle rifle into them so that they don't have an opportunity to respond. I never had trouble with them, and I've played Bungee's games at their highest difficulty level since Pathways Into Darkness. (Stopping after they left Halo, because destiny doesn't look like my cup of tea.)

Maybe next time be thankful that you learned something doing so and just correct him rather than pretty childishly insulting someone that was just trying to share info.
Also his definition works in context of the the scene in the game so the historical definition still fits. True the word isn't misused nowadays but only because we have changed it from its original meaning and you're behaving like a smartass accusing someone of being a smartass... kinda hypocritical(I know i'm being a smartass in turn but at least i'm not as rude about it).
Helium Air, I would probably put it down to him quoting from the books, He points out a few times in the video that the the book goes into more detail and adds details like the ending with the elevator where he had the chief pinned and cortana disabled the elevators sending him into a free fall where in the game you can stroll through after firing a rocket and popping any grunts remaining.

Personal headcannon: Zuka was blown out of the elevator shaft, surviving the fall by landing on another floor. In his brush with death he decided that enough was enough and gave up trying to kill chief, realizing that it would all inevitably be for naught. He hobbled his way through the halls of the pillar if autumn before managing to leave, finding a crashed covenant dropship, commandeering it and beginning to try and escape the ring. In the distance he saw a fleeing ghost and a familiar grunt. He landed and picked yayap up as well as all of his supplies and ghost. Together again they escaped the ring and continue to evade the covenant to this day, the prophets believing both to be dead. Occasionally both of them think back to that day on the ring with a feeling of satisfaction, not from slaying the demon, but from finally getting their freedom.

This story feels like some fanfic I'd read on a rainy day
😂
It basically was the official Halo 1 fanfiction. And it was amazing.
This is why I love “the flood” that whole side story was amazing.
I didnt really like how they develop the whole Silva and McKay sidestory just to be killed off in the end quickly (in an heroic act, yes, but it still felt like the whole sidestory was a bit of a waste of time). Just my opinion though.
@@LaggyKikee I would argue that the Silva McKay story tells you the human side of the story. With Zuka, we got the Covenant side of things, with Chief, we got the hero's story, but we never really knew how the everyday Marine might fair on the Ring outside of cannon fodder, and the Marines left the story once you go into the Library, gameplay wise. To see how they reacted and intended when the Flood were released was something we would of loved to see, and with the book, we got it. McKay was a survivalist, who just wanted to be clear of the Flood, where as Silva almost took on the role of an ONI Investigator, given that he wanted to bring the Flood back for study, which is exactly what ONI does once they learn of The Flood
"the flood" is great but "Mona Lisa" is still my favorite, it's fucking horrifying.
This story broke my heart thinking of the lives of the two and the positions they were put in. Also going thru the story of the two in CE in their eyes while remembering my perspective at the same time is crazy.
It was very interesting when I was reading it in the book. I loved following the "hunt". I recommend all of the books for everyone.
if you read the book: HALO: The Flood, by William C. Dietz, you get the entire story of halo CE, but in a book, and it has Zuka Zamamee.
It's a shit story to read honestly not as good as Eric Nylunds books at all!
@@jessejames9282
I wouldn't say it was shit.
It's just okay, but it has to stand next to Nylund's work, which is a major problem for Dietz.
@BlairGB1
Agreed. Retreading that sort of ground takes away from the book.
BlairGB1 i mean for a book exploring a game, it did its job and it added a ton of new lore so I would think its still a good addition to the series. Besides, at least its not Cole Protocol.

Random Penguins That would be one of the most hardcore and badass grunts ever, hell have them dual-wielding energy swords.

Some say he stalked the chief, others say chief fought him personally. All we know is, he's called the stig
He's NOT the Stig, but he is the Stig's alien, Covenant aligned, cousin!

As in Stig Top Gear?

If you haven’t read The Flood by William C. Dietz, I recommend it. It tells this story.
The Flood novelization is a hit-or-miss among the Halo fanbase. Personally I liked it because I was able to understand the story more, as it wasn't really elaborated too much upon in the actual game itself.
I remember buying that in a set of 3. The flood was my favorite book
God dang that intro is amazing can’t stop watching it over and over
This is why you read the books. They expand the story tenfold. There's an entire plot point about the ODSTs and the human side of the halo experience. Also Cheif was one of only 5 people to leave the halo ring in CE
Word The flood had so many things happening on the pillar that is never seen, whenever a pelican comes picks you up it's bringing you back to the FOB which has crazy shit happening all the time god i love halo lore

just googled The Flood and Contact Harvest books and the covers give me such great nostalgia
What I find disappointing was that the master chief never encountered camouflaged combat flood forms during the events of alpha halo in the book
That's because the dude in Charge of writing the book took inspiration from the easy difficulty of the game (wich has no active cammo combat forms)
Aaron Alvarez oooh, Well that answers that then.
In game goes over book lore so it's still possible for them to be there
Jerry Howard I think everyone has done that lol

“pet grunt”, “hired a grunt as an assistant”
grunt: am I a joke to you?
Yes.
I mean in the books the Elites' attitude towards Grunts is pretty much seeing them as "lesser species". So by all means he may have thought of him as a "pet" more than an assistant.
MJGHuggies hahah oh yea how could they think of them as much more when I think every halo player finds them some what adorable
@@kaos-vi7mf The ones in Halo 4 and up are fucking ugly.
Then again, everything in Halo 4 and up is ugly compared to the games before them.
Snazzy Jovial Wyrm Yea, 343 gave some lore saying that these were different races of the same species or something like that in halo 4. But then they reintroduced Arbiter and the other OG elites having the same design as all the other ugly bastards
I always come back to your vids, they’re fantastic. I just wish you did D1 and D2 content too!
I remember reading this in the book Halo CE:The Flood.
Always such a awesome story.

This brings back memories of the day I beat all of halo CE with a pistol.
It's interesting how Zuka is the polar opposite to Thel 'Vadam - the tie-in novel showed Zuka as an Elite that was relatively cowardly and was not above using questionable tactics which saw his own troops being used as total cannon fodder so he wouldn't have to risk his own skin. He even hid behind a Shade turret in his final battle against Chief when any other Elite would be waiting for him with an Energy Sword.
And on the other side of the spectrum, Thel is basically a blood knight that would rather die in a head-on battle even if he knew he wasn't going to live to talk about it.
Didn’t Thel Vadamee become the Arbiter we know and love or am I missing something? I would like some clarification just so I’m not confused
@@CQBlitz0 Yes, Thel is indeed the Arbiter we all know and love.
@@SoldierOfFate yay! Also thanks for replying when your comment is like two years old lmao

I almost wish these two lived to see the end of the war. It would have been hilarious if one of the elite co op characters in halo 3 was Zuka.
Headcannon.
Besides, Sergeant Johnson died in the Halo CE legendary ending. He showed up just fine in Halo 2. I'm still pissed they killed him in Halo 3. He was supposed to be an immortal meme character and Joe Staten (his creator) was pissed they killed him.
Zuka Zamamee in the place of N'tho Sroam would be epic
That'd be ironic, bet Chief still wouldn't have any idea who Zuka was though.
@@217adaptiveperspective Zuka: "Demon where we once were bitter enemies we now fight side by side" Chief: "Have I met you.... ?"
In an alternate timeline, Zuka might have somehow ended up as Arbiter instead of Thel.
@@217adaptiveperspective Unfortunately that would screw over the Elites because Zuka is a coward (I really doubt he'd have the balls to lead a rebellion, he'd flee and let his brethren get slaughtered) compared to Thel.
I felt genuinely sad for that ending that I even teared up a bit. The two have been through so much, that in the end the two end up dying. The reality where you leave your only “friend” behind to die is saddening. R.I.P. Yap and Zuka
