Jim Keltner will always be my drumming hero. I've never heard anything from this man that wasn't supremely groovy and creative, with a defined and recognizable sound on the drums. He's worked with the best and yet remains completely down to Earth and humbled by all of his experiences. There quite literally is no one like him. God bless and thanks for this. So much of what he's imparted in this and in other interviews resonates with me and reminds me of what's important both in music and in life. ☮
I guess that I didn't listen to Jim all the way to the end. I do admire this man more than anyone! Such great feel that plays for the music always! May I suggest one with Terry Bozzio someday? Thanks John!
Jim is my favorite drummer, but better than that, he is a good man! We love you Jim. Thank you for ALL the beautiful drumming you have given us through the years! God Bless you!
WOW. This is just brilliant. The one and only Mr K. John this series you have compiled is truly outstanding to not only we drummers, but all musicians everywhere! Thank you thank you thank you✌🥁
Thanks John and Jim for a tremendous interview with interesting tidbits of life, people and drums. Man, what a guy with years and years of experiences. It's an inspiration, to find your own voice and develop your style.
ah Chuck Blackwell! I first learned about him when I saw him play with Taj Mahal on the RnR circus video. Listening at Jim Gordon wit Derek and the dominoes live...Jim could also play way out there...loose and wild ! Love Jim, JIm an Levon!
Jim is right on when he talks about the other players also being responsible for the groove. I've always said that, no matter what instrument you are playing, once you string 2 notes together you are impacting the groove. I've since modified my thoughts to - the moment you play a single note, the placement of that note impacts the groove.
Worth mentioning that Tina sang Back grounds (uncredited) on Frank Zappa’s Overnight Sensation, which was tracked mainly at Ike’s facility Bolic in Inglewood, Cal. Reportedly Ike refused to let Tina be paid any more than a fraction of what she should have been paid.
Ask Jim if he remembers playing with the T Bones for a month in spring of 1967 . I was also picked up to play with this group the same day as Jim. He was a few years older than me . He was telling me - I was twenty yrs old - about playing with Gabor Szabo, and told me “ if you’re smart you’ll just do this just for connections “ He was right of course, we both lasted a month. Ps. Jim introduced me to George Harrison at A&M in the mid 1970’s . Mind boggling afternoon …
Such a great show. Thank you John for all. You do bring back a lot of these great Drummers from the past That we grew up listening to.
Thank you 🙏
This guy is very in touch with his feelings.
I’m not a drummer, but as a musician, Keltner is an American treasure.

fav Keltner track: Fool Who Knows { Little Village } and Five Long Years { eric clapton ) from From The Cradle . theres so many :)
Had to go back and listen to Josie with the headphones on and damn it’s awesome.
This was an INCREDIBLE interview. What a great guy, in addition to such a magnificent musician. What was the song he did with Chaka and Rufus?
Thank you. "Dance Wit Me" recorded in 1975 I believe. 🙏❤️
@@livefrommydrumroom Many thanks. And the Omar Hakim interview might be my favorite interview so far. You do such a great job.
@@amymalina5073 You're welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed the Omar Hakim episode. Thanks for watching, and for the kind words. 🙏❤
Now I want to go on a Keltner listening marathon. What songs are considered to feature some of Keltner's most beautiful rendering of time?
Wow, what a trip! I am now wondering what it means to say: "I wanted to play more like Levon (Helm) than Jim Gordon."
I've always felt like, and I'm not even a drummer, but a guitarist, but if you Don't like Jim Keltner, there's something wrong with you.
Jim is a cool cat. 😊
“Josie”
That is all.
But now a 1000+ drummers are searching high and low for a 70’s 5” Ludwig acrylic super sensitive.
Oh damn “Dream Weaver”
"Everybody Has The Blues" by James Taylor. Super funky.
@@paulrevelli - lovely. Ty!

I'm friends with Reinhardt and Bobby. Reinhardt is a BAD MOTHER!
Such needless panic. Now we know. Some of us never bought into it.
