Just started getting in jimi buffet..and was impressed with his good time music and great musicians..so here i am checkin it out ..love rhythm section
Jimmy had an incredible band. All top notch players and always a fun show. Enjoy digging into his music and thanks for watching! 🙏
Apologies for the very off topic question here. That Paiste gong.....just saw a still of Emil Richards standing next to a Paiste gong with a similar dark spot/hole off to the upper right hand corner..... Any connection there? And is it actually a hole? thx
The gong belonged to Vic Firth, who was my father in-law. Yes, it is actually a hole. Thanks for watching! 🙏
@@livefrommydrumroom right on, thanks man! Guess I'll be googling "gong with hole"....didn't know such a thing existed.
i'd date katy thought, beside all that great drumming.
Great drummer! That bouncing the bass drum beater on Hip to be square Bill does is so cool!
Cool that shit out man! Very cool 😎
This is an interview about life……”it is about conviction” ……a brilliant interview; thank you ❤
Obligatory 'wtf how does this not have more views' comment
Hey John...took a week, but I just watched the Track Talk With Bill Gibson. What a great guy he is and a great hang with him. Thanks for the show !!! (Elliott Berlin)
@@elliottberlin8523 Thanks Elliott. I’m glad you enjoyed it! 🙏❤️
Another great interview! 👍. May I suggest a future guest? Brian Dunne. Featured on Live from Daryl’s House. Flying under the radar for the most part but a terrific drummer!!! 👍
Thanks Steve! 🙏♥
From what I am hearing, the mics actually sound pretty good. It is the room that needs more absorption, we are hearing lots of the room. The other drumsets are providing some really good diffusion.
Dude just casually assembled the avengers like it’s nothing. I burned through that tape as a child.
Bill Gibson, such a likable human being! Great drummer.
Such an incredible Drummer I had no Idea how many things he had played on ..and all my favorite's, no wonder he has done so much it's just his incredible feel
Great, great interview and conversation! Huey Lewis and the News were huge when I was in high school in the mid-1980s and just beginning my journey as a drummer. Bill Gibson was definitely an influence on me. I love his stories. I appreciate that his parents supported him, and that he and his dad shared a love of drumming (which reminds me a lot of my dad ). I also appreciate the band's Bay Area roots and identity. Thanks so much!
Great interview John. It may be a simple pattern to Bill but it also amounts to the way you hit the drums as well, and Bill is definitely doing well in that respect. That sound!
One of THEE most underrated drummers EVER. NO Doubt.
One of THE most underrated drummers EVER. No doubt.
Marc Russo's solo in Trouble in paradise is the best sax solo ever!
Bill Gibson is so underrated. I consider him a musician more than just a drummer. If you listen to what he's playing on almost any of those songs you can tell by his fills and accents that he's listening intently to the rest of the band/what the song needs. I hear a super creative, selfless drummer when I listen to him.
Personally John, I love left-handed drummers...very special place in my heart... Mike's basement will always 'Trigger' wonderful memories...nobody can ever take that away...wishing you peace and love my brother
Don’t mean to hog the comment section great show tonight John ! Thanks again
Bill mentioned the LA critic who hated Huey Lewis And The News which was Robert Hilburn formerly of the L.A. Times. That man hated EVERYONE. He hated Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Toto and Yes to name a few. He even called Jeff Porcaro “too conventional of a player” so you know he had a screw loose. If Robert Hilburn hated you, chances are you were a huge success.
☺👍
Fantastic show John. Bill is the best. The News is my favorite band. Thank you again.
Thanks John for another great interview. Bill Gibson is one of the most underrated drummers (and very humble). I had the pleasure of seeing him play with Huey Lewis and the News, along the TOP horn section, on the "Fore" tour. One of my favorite parts of the interview was him talking about the support he received from his parents.
Thanks for watching, Doug. Your shirt is on the way! 🙏👍
@@livefrommydrumroom Thanks, John. This has become my favorite UA-cam drum channel. I can't wait to see who you will be interviewing next.
@@douglasmackenzie5265 Thanks Doug. I appreciate it. 🙏
That fill on walking on a thin line. Sounds like 7,16 note triplets. With six more trips after an eighth note rest with a flam at the end I think pretty damn cool. I always loved it too.
John, you mentioned that Bill sent you a video at one time showing the sticking of this fill. Do you still have it and if so, would it be possible to share it on your channel? I appreciate Bill showing it to us during your live stream, but with his back to the camera, it was a bit difficult to see which toms he was using throughout the fill. Also, it's interesting to see that he uses a traditional grip, which I am more comfortable with as an old guy. 🙂
Was the power of love quantized or was that your incredibly fantastic pocket? I need to know it revitalize my whole drumming career learning that tune what a powerful groove. You and Jeff man, you and Jeff Yes, that Jeff porcaro
Not quantized - no click track - just the rhythm section doing a basic track.
@ what a pocket One of the best !
That's one of my favorite fills that was perfect for the song. I can play it perfectly when drumming on the dashboard of my car, but I've yet to figure out the sticking when behind the kit. I'll have to watch that part of the video again to finally figure it out.
@@billgibson4809 Thanks Bill! Love ya pal! 🙏♥
That is one beautiful china type cymbal! Sounds amazing!! You should go through that pile of cymbals on the floor too! The Rude!!! Everything sounded great John!
Happy New Year John!!!
Crash cymbals sound like Buddy’s
@@mwdrum Thanks. That’s what I was going for with the 18” When I asked Paul Francis to lathe my 18” A Zildjian Med Thin crash, we referenced Buddy’s 18” crashes. 👍
As a lefty myself, starting to play in 1966, Mickey Dolenz was the first lefty I could imitate. Though his thing is even more odd.
Sweet sound and creative combination on the hats and the swish knocker very full tone!
Thanks! 🙏♥
Big JD!!
Big Dan! Happy New Year! 🎆🤟
Cymbals sound good 👍🏼
Yay! Heppy new jar!
@@JonathanOnDrums and to you! 🎉🎈🎆🙌
Hi I need some help first of all thank you John for doing this video!!! I need some info on the snare drum Charlie was using with the black nitron era you say it was a chrome over brass 5x14 was that a Ludwig or a Gretsch snare thanks?
I'm glad you enjoyed the episode - thanks for watching! It was a Gretsch chrome over brass snare drum. Although Charlie used many different snares throughout the years, especially from the late 1980s onward, he used his Gretsch 4160 COB a lot - 'almost' exclusively, from 1969 until the early/mid 1980s.
It’s so crazy to hear Tim say that he thought nobody wants to hear him. He’s always been the reason for me to see and listen to Primus. Neil may have gotten me into drumming, but Tim made me keep playing. My #1 favorite drummer of all time. He has always had the perfect combo of chops, groove, and playing what the song needs. Tim is the GOAT. I am reluctantly trying out for the spot, only because my wife keeps telling me if she has to hear me playing Primus tunes on drums non-stop that I should at least give it a shot. ✌🏼 Thank you for the decades of the most interesting music available, and thank you for a great interview.
@@KinseiSensei Thanks for watching and good luck 👍
@ thank you I just need to get past the crippling self-doubt! 😂
Joe Vitale is the only drummer whose licks I try to cop. He has fabulous drumset phrasing.
On Different Drum - 1967 Stone Poneys, Jim Gordon holds back ever so slightly on the last 3 beats of the bridge. Also the first back beat of the that chorus is held back!! - which gives the rest of the chorus a perceived tempo lift. No tempo change but just the magic that drum fills can create.
Thanks for these great interviews, John. I really enjoy your channel, and the greats that you have on. This is driving me crazy now: Did Mr. Vitale use a black beauty on SOUTHERN CROSS, or his 1965 Supra that he used on Walsh's records? He said Black Beauty on your other video. If you get a chance, can you ask him again and let us rock n roll nerds know?
@@CaseyLyde This is directly from Joe: “Hey John… that was definitely a ‘65 Supraphonic … same one used on Rocky Mountain Way…I may have misspoken about the Black Beauty.” Thanks for watching 🙏❤️
@livefrommydrumroom super thanks to you. And, please tell Mr. Vitale thanks for the answer, and thanks for the music and inspiration.
A song from my teenage years constantly on the radio. I love it.
3/23/94. My cousin took me to see Primus as an opener for Rush. Changed my life. Thank you, Tim, for the countless hours that I spent hitting pillows and pots and pans trying to emulate Seas of Cheese. (And I still play drums!) John, this is a great show.
Thank you. 🙏♥
That fill in All this time! You were like here it comes, and drummers everywhere smile ❤❤❤❤ including Manu. What a player!!
I'm a right handed drummer but I have practiced to be able to lead rolls with my left hand which I find liberating. I play all ride and hi hat patterns with my right hand but very often lead with my left hand for fills. This helps keep my left hand strong.
as far as a studio drummers GORDON is as good as it gets. ive been checking out some of his credited tracks and its a california vibe that i like. He owned that style.
Herb we miss you sir
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👏👏👏
Imo Drayton is extremely talented, and simply isn't as well known or appreciated as much as he could be. I think he is a fabulous accompanist, and he also produces. A heavyweight within the industry.
Thank you John and Lorne.
Steve is a legend. Thanks for this, guys! ❤
What a nice and fun interview ! Andy’s energy and sincerity was really appreciable to watch and listen. I discovered him through "Double Fantasy". His sound on that record is fantastic ! and for sure, all he played on that album was perfect for each songs. What a great drum part he did on "Anticipation" at only 21 years old. Powerful and groovy. Thank for that interview John. All the best !
