So I was on a trip to DW in Orlando in about 1997 or 1998, and saw Tony singing with the Voices of Liberty (along with Gary & Kevin). Tony didn't know me, but I had met him a few years before as a freshman in college in Tampa with Keepsake. I was awestruck, and of course hooked really hard on barbershop by Keepsake. Tony was totally friendly and approachable, and after some small-talk about bbshop, he said, "yeah actually we've just started a new quartet with Gary (standing there at the time), and Kevin over there (across the atrium) and Joe on lead. We're pretty excited about it." I had no idea what a crazy congregation of talent was about to be Platinum.
Everything about this quartet is incredible. Match, blend etc. But most of all it's Tony and Joe's ability to be on the same page and know the other so well. Watch at 6:23 during Tony's post., and again at the end of the tag. He looks at Joe, and Joe gives back a little wink acknowledgment. Not sure what the communication was, (likely length of final chord or something) but you know by their looks that they knew what each other meant. Absolutely fantastic. Only a few quartets in history changed barbershop, and Platinum was one of them!!
I've always wondered about that, but I'd like to see it when they're all on different parts... Like, De Rosa on bass, Connelly on bari, Lewis on lead and Oxley on tenor. Probably still better than most of the quartets out there.
I haven't seen Kevin Miles doing any barbershop since 2000, which is a great pity, he's brilliant! Where's he got to? By the way, Tony, EPIC post in Auld Lang Syne!
@mattdre88 Wow, you can't recognize the distinction between quartets? Unbelievable. If you're not from New Jersey, you and I just became Interstate Rivals!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds to me that on the final chord of Undecided Medley, Kevin is singing the root, Joe is an octave above him, Tony's the third above that, and Gary's singing the high fifth. Can someone please clarify/correct me?
@XarionGod If we weren't in different parts of the country, I would say we should put a quartet together. I think we could ditch this "rivals" thing and be Most Happy Fellows.
@mattdre88 It would probably be more of the standard Old School barbershop style to give the bari that line, but that would leave him without a lot of time to sing the pick up that leads into the final Revival of the refrain =P And besides, they're just mixing it up a tad, The Rapscallions...
Not being a smartarse or anything, but prefferrences aside, these guys have won Gold multiple times so I don't think it's worth stating to be honest...
As good as Gary is on tenor, I am sorry to announce that he isn't able to sing tenor that well as he used to. He's losing his tenor. But what Gary can do is sing Bass and Lead (and obviously baritone).
how f*cking good is gary Lewis?! also i do prefer tony in a baritone, rather than lead role. I'd still like joe connelly to hold back on occasion rather than giving it the beans, surging...i realise thats who he is, but it's still a preference worth stating. overall i'm so consistently thrilled by -repeated - listening of this. Talkinshop you are a LEG END and i hope these remain on here for EVER...

Garys tenor at the start of Auld @ 3:19 is so entrancing. So understated and elegant
Tony is a brilliant singer!
I'm obsessed with Gary's "Oh yeah!" at 1:15. So relaxed and natural.

It takes a lot of skill to blend that well. Singing isn't always about showing off how good our own voice is.

Have you heard the Westminster Fantasy Quartet? From Tenor to Bari, Tim Waurick, Joe Connolly, Jeff Oxley, and Tony DeRosa
there has never been as a good bass/lead blend. just perfection!
They deserved gold!!!
Ah only this can make me feel at peace, what beautiful singing.
The end of the first song is great. :3)
Gary Lewis lost weight! Whoa! Never knew he sang with Platinum
Spectacular splendid my God I'm pretty much at peace
Had to look this one up on New Year's!
Love Joe's face just before 'burn' at 1:23. Oh AJ, we love you.
Gary Lewis out here trying to win gold on all four parts.
One more to go
LEAD! LEAD! LEAD! LEAD! LEAD!
I've always wondered about that, but I'd like to see it when they're all on different parts... Like, De Rosa on bass, Connelly on bari, Lewis on lead and Oxley on tenor. Probably still better than most of the quartets out there.
Tony DeRosa is just always there singing outrageous parts like it's simple stuff
Aye, but when you've got Joe on lead, and then Tony on bari, you're untouchable!
still my favourite BS quartet after all these years.
Wow excellent!
I haven't seen Kevin Miles doing any barbershop since 2000, which is a great pity, he's brilliant! Where's he got to? By the way, Tony, EPIC post in Auld Lang Syne!
Thanks man, thought it was.

Chills 👌
@Rubano5428
the most talented man in Barbershop History.......period.
6:03-6:08 Gary Lewis!!!!
What if Gary Lewis, Joe Connelly, Tony De Rosa, and Jeff Oxley started a quartet? Best one ever?
BMath850 they cant because that platinum you can only have 2 people from a quartet to make another one.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds to me that on the final chord of Undecided Medley, Kevin is singing the root, Joe is an octave above him, Tony's the third above that, and Gary's singing the high fifth. Can someone please clarify/correct me?

The facial expressions in this video...are terrifying
ha ha ha ha ha
Platinum isn't a PRS/PER quartet, for sure
I'm sure it's dealer's choice, but would it have been more appropriate for the baritone to take the "gotta say yes" at 2:05?
Or when he's your lead!
Kinda the point, you're meant to hear the lead and, to an extent, the bass, but the bari and tenor should always be background sound...
@mattdre88 You know, that could work. A friend of mine could sing with us to, his name is FRED.
@mattdre88
It would probably be more of the standard Old School barbershop style to give the bari that line, but that would leave him without a lot of time to sing the pick up that leads into the final Revival of the refrain =P

@jrpinder Gotcha!
I'm not sure that the Joe/Jeff would work that well together. No doubt they would be FREAKIN' AMAZING but I'm just sayin :)
@mattdre88 God, you just don't get it do you? It's PLATINUM, not Gotcha! The nerve of some people. Sheesh.
:3
What’s the name of the song? I’ve never heard this one.
25 seconds. Wish I was Tony DeRosa.
Don't we all...
I think he's a Dapper Dan now.
where?
Not being a smartarse or anything, but prefferrences aside, these guys have won Gold multiple times so I don't think it's worth stating to be honest...

Kyle Kolebuck I love Gary Lewis on bass. If you haven't, you should listen to quorum
*Jesus DeRosa
@XarionGod Does it really matter? In the end they're all just Four Voices.
Tonys overtones are amazing, i love overtones, but I cant sing baritone, only Bass. But Bass is cool too.
Tony DeRosa in 2:47
aaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAA
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! FRED!!!!!
I don't get the Gary Lewis love. I can barely hear him.
how f*cking good is gary Lewis?!

Talkinshop you are a LEG END and i hope these remain on here for EVER...
Jordan Litz is a better tenor. ;-) lol
I really love Max Q more. Sorry.
@robabob13 Get out.
Then I'm unimpressed. It doesn't take skill to sing quietly in falsetto.
Your right unless you want to blend not as easy as you think
Unless your speaking from experience because I am
