    I keep coming back to this (and all realtime) as the best barbershop in existance. Quartets and choruses need to aspire to this mastery of the art form...

    They asked for a 96 and they...well they got a 90.6 so I guess they were dead on. Much deserved gold!

    I know I'm late to the party stumbling on this performance. I got nostalgic and looked up songs I remember from my barbershop-influenced childhood. I will admit my Barbershop "world" was spent with these guys (aside from the lead). My uncle sang with the Metzger's Dad Charlie. I watched Tim, Tom & Mark for years and EVERY time I hear them sing, it takes me back to the good old days of listening to pick up quartets singing pole cat songs & belting out a tag around a campfire in Anacortes & White Rock. They were all SOOO good individually and to see them come together like this was BREATHTAKING!!! Thank you for posting this!! :-)

    I grew up with 1966 Champs The Renegades, and The Gentlemen's Agreement later. My Dad was a tenor for 30 years for The Cherry Capital Chorus. This is a great example of a ringing chord! They do it so well! It takes much commitment to practice that and get it right. I watched my Dad's quartet practice often in our living room for many years! Good job fella's! Take a bow!

    Unfortunately, this was NOT the quartet that got me into barbershop, but only because I heard the likes of Max Q and Storm Front first. Had I heard them first, I'm sure they'd have been the ones.

    Well they knew their money chords! Not sure if another quartet has ended both songs from a round on the exact chord, with everyone singing the same note. Not saying it's anything but awesome!

      I know I'm 4 years late, but First Take's 2023 semifinals set immediately comes to mind - Let's Go Fly a Kite + Not While I'm Around, both ending on an A♭ major 1-5-1-3 with Alex chesting the third.
      It's got impressively loud and awesome ring, just like Realtime's E♭ major 1-1-3-5 here!

    What's the story behind the roast on Max Q? I know they got "stuck" in second for three years in a row, before winning in '07. But what happened before? Did they say they'd quit, but came back?

    • @askcastellar9394
      @askcastellar9394 3 роки тому +7

      initially, max q was going to go into retirement after 2004, not because they didn't win, but because they disliked how much time they were spending away from their families, but they decided to keep going.

    No quartet surpasses Realtime's overtones. Lots of quartets are more virtuosic, but if I had to choose a quartet to sing ONE chord (preferably Eb major 1-1-3-5 like in YIHTR) I would choose Realtime every time.

    • @guibox3
      @guibox3 6 років тому +1

      Vocal Spectrum probably comes close but I agree. The quartets that have won in the last 5 years can't come close to Realtime (and really most of the quartets from 2000-2010)

    • @jetson888
      @jetson888 6 років тому +3

      I think part of the issue is quartets are going for scoring now...the pop medleys and comedy instead of traditional chord building. I really think it’s to reach a new younger generation
