Which is the best high-performance SUV (that isn’t a Lamborghini)? Is it the Aston Martin DBX 707, or the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT?
Well, it’s time to find out! Mat’s got his hands on these two SUV powerhouses to find out which is the must-own performance SUV!
So let’s see how they compare. Starting with the Porsche, it’s powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 640hp (90hp MORE than the standard Cayenne Turbo) and 850Nm of torque. It’s equipped with four-wheel drive, and it costs from £150,000.
Think that’s expensive? Well, you’ll need to spend more on the DBX 707, which starts from £190,000! So it’s up on price, but it’s also up on power! With a Mercedes-AMG 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet, coupled with a pair of turbos taken from the AMG GT Black Series, it can produce 707hp and 900Nm!
When it comes to exterior design, both have upgraded over the standard variations of each car. With the Aston, you’ll find a more aggressive front end coupled with a bigger grille, along with sporty side skirts and a large diffuser around the back. With the Porsche, you’ve got a carbon fibre roof, bigger air intakes up front, and a carbon fibre diffuser which comes as standard.
On the inside, both cars are just oozing quality. In the Porsche, you’ll find Alcantara throughout the cabin, a pair of super comfortable sports seats up front, and a well-laid-out dashboard and centre console. The DBX 707 is certainly more colourful than the Porsche and the entire cabin is covered in soft-touch materials, but the button layout and design isn’t as clean as in the Turbo GT.

That Cayenne Turbo GT engine specs is exactly what an RS6/7 Performance should have.
But it doesn't because Audi is below Porsche in VAG food chain.

Nope the Panamera turbo s engine spec would be more suitable for so called hypothetical C8 RS6 Performance or Gen 2 RS7 Performance.
That makes sense. I'm a Porsche fanboy and I'd pick the Aston for daily duty stuffs. But that turbo GT, I've test driven one, they're absolutely mental.
I like that Aston. The fact it shares turbos with the AMG GT is badass I am Mercedes guy for sure.

Unlike the "this for that" Porsche, to achieve its maximum performance. The DBX doesn't give up anything.
Two great SUVs. I'd have the DBX 707 just because of the exclusivity; nothing on the road looks like it. I dont care that AM didn't use their own engines/drivetrain.
No reason to build own engines when you can get the best tt v8 out there😏and it is also handcrafted just like the interior👌

Aston Martin engines are totally outdated crap engines, which don't fulfill modern emissions regulations. This is the main reason, why AM are forced to take all these much better and modern AMG V8 engines, which fulfill modern emissions regulations. AM V12 still is just for show for some small dick- idiots with too much money. It has ever been quite slow compared to the best engines, which are all German V8 engines.

He didn't mention, in the sportiest setting of the DBX, the car is still superbly comfortable. Aston engineers told me they specifically wanted to achieve this in the development of the 707, to deliver Sport +'s fast response and pace but yet the suspension doesnt jitter you nor the transmission jerks your passengers. You can leave it in Sports Plus all day long.
Sitting that high of course it will feel comfortable.
I drove one about a month ago and I can confirm the transmission isn't jerky and the suspension and ride quality feels like a normal Aston. It didn't feel like an SUV at all!

I'm really not a fan of SUVs, especially these performance ones. If I absolutely had to have one, I'd definitely chose the Porsche. I hate the looks of the DBX.

Yep. Cayenne Turbo GT can even accelerate faster than R34GT-R on a stock trim.

The Porsche. It was the first Sports SUV, all the others followed the $. It is effective. It is fast. It is reasonably priced compared to the competition.having said that Aston sounds nastier and better.

i was never a big Porsche fan but always impressed by them, as I have gotten older I have been enjoying the Porsche more and more, still real expensive for me but in my opinion the value and performance just seems to always kill competition.
The Porsche wines this hands down especially when considering the prices.

Nobody will pay the full price anyway, it’s always finance or lease. So the Aston will probably be the same monthly cost as the Porsche due to the higher risk dial values. So they’ll actually cost the same.
The Porsche doesn't look or sound as good as the DBX.

I would choose the DBX just by how it looks. Arguably one of the best looking SUVs out there.

I love both cars and they both amazing in their own ways but I'd say the Porsche turbo GT cause the entertainment system and just feels so more expensive than the aston

The old Mercedes infotainment and poor (in comparison to the Cayenne) ergonomics in the Aston would be a deal breaker for me because I use my car audio system and sat nav every day, and don't want to be fiddling around too much for controls. That said, i've sat in a DBX recently in the showroom & it is a nice place to be.
Cayenne for me everyday of the week, thank you. My wife's 2011 Cayenne S Hybrid has now covered 228 000km (140 000 miles?) and it still is a dream to drive. So Cayenne it will be for us then 😌
What is the fuel economy like ?
@@mohammadzohorul8887 at 120km/h we use 8 litres per 100km and town driving we use 11 liters per 100km. IMO, its okay for a 3.0 V6 engine. The hybrid battery is not good anymore, but to replace it will cost as much as the car is worth at present.
@@gerdhermann752 that's a pretty good economy for a car with more than 200k km, i don't think that Aston is gonna last this much without major repairs...
The 707 is what the DBX should have been from the start. Maybe not that wide froggie grille but the performance & handling. It's an Aston it shouldn't have a "lesser" edition.

Both cars are just great. On the outside the aston martin has more personality. For the rest I find the porsche better. The interior is nicer, the choice of materials is just excellent. And in terms of reliability, I'm sure that the Porsche is much better. Finally, considering the prices of the two cars, I find that Porsche offers much more!
To be fair, neither are something people buy for reliability.
@krane15 Cayenne is quite reliable apart from battery issues, where they fixed in 2022. AMG 4.0 engine seems to be reliable, too.

These are family SUVs that are just as quick as the McLaren F1. 🤯
Only up to around 60-70 using the advantage awd and 30 years of technical advancement provides,so only level for the first couple of seconds or so then once the F1 hooks up these 2 wouldn't see which way it went!
Lol in a straight line. On a track they wouldn't even be allowed to participate due to the amount of roll. SUVs are worse on the road by every metric vs a car. The only place they have any benefit is offroad.

@@timfagan816 That's exactly my point. At least in the USA, 80% of people buy SUVs with probably 2% or less of them intending to go offroad in any way. It's ridiculous. They would be served better by a car in every way.
Surprising verdict Matt! Honestly I feel like the Cayenne GT would be the automatic winner, but the DBX really is more beautiful inside and out and as fast! And the mind blower, the DBX stopped shorter!!! Insane both of these SUVs are!
Aston Martin cannot even get close to Porsche's driving dynamics, quality and reliability. On top of that, there is 69K GBP (81K USD) price gap, which is huge. And Matt's verdict is surprising. Is it really? Forgot to ask: Where is Aston Martin from?
I agree with you totally, as for the braking, I have my doubts as there are tonnes of too many conditions that make a brake super. Are both brakes brand new? 🤔

That infotainment system isn’t even the modern system of Mercedes and back then it wasn’t modern, too. Unacceptable for a car with that price which wants to be called luxurious.

If I were to choose I’d take the standard version of the DBX. It just got more class maybe even more luxury than the Cayenne.

The entire point of these specific suv's IS absolutely insane performance while being "useful" everyday. Everyone EXPECTS luxury from these brands already. You would have to work very hard to be more wrong than you are.

This is truly a difficult choice. The only thing I can say for certain is that the Aston Martin DBX 707 definitely sounds like an AMG engine!!
Turbo GT for me, hands down. The DBX looks like a pissed off alien Catfish. And you can't beat Porsche's reliability. My Turbo GT is being built right now, with a completion date of Sept. 16th. Can't wait!
