    ☆ ABOUT ME ☆
    I am a former tech worker who lived in NYC for 30 years. When I reached 50, I set out my own and created a business selling on Amazon using their FBA program. Great fun, but neither career left much time for healthy living.
    I turned 60 last year (2023). I found myself 110 pounds overweight and seriously out-of-shape, pre-diabetic, with sky-high cholesterol, and unable to walk for more than 20 minutes without resting.
    I decided to make some major changes. I shut down my Amazon business and started living frugally. Health is more important than money, especially as we grow older. In August 2023 I started the carnivore diet and lost 65 pounds in 3 months.
    Now I’m hooked! I can walk for miles without a rest now. My cholesterol is within normal levels as is my blood pressure. I am no longer pre-diabetic, and I feel 30 years younger!
    After experiencing the benefits, I’ve become passionate about sharing my story to help others.

    That beef jerky stuff says zero carbs but they usually have maltodextrin which can raise your sugars more than sugar which stalls weight loss.

    Caution on the ground beef!
    Many places fill the air-tight package with gases which are used to keep the meat looking fresh red even after it starts to spoil.
    vacuum pack or tube packed should be okay

      @jeanineskitchen2607 2 місяці тому

    • @KyleWitten
      @KyleWitten Місяць тому +1

      The only gas they use is carbon monoxide. It doesn't affect the quality of the meat. Nor does it prevent spoiling. The only thing that it does is prevent oxidation which some people find visually unappealing.
      And, you can't tell if meat is spoiled by visual inspection. So looking fresh doesn't make it fresh. Nor does looking brownish gray make it bad.

    Thanks for sharing! Aldi is my place. They should have organic whole bean coffee at your Aldi. Maybe check again next time you go. I love the ground lamb. The lamb is a little lean though. I got a six lb hunk of raw suet from a local place that I chopped up, froze and render off a little at a time. I use that to add more fat to leaner meats as the fatty acid profile is better and is more nutritious.

    I LOVE Aldi, it's pretty much the only place I shop. I buy the small 1 pound frozen tubes of ground beef for 4.59 and eat one a day. I also love the seasoned pork loins on the grill. ( I also cook for my husband and my mother-in-law who lives with us, so I will do seasoning and a vegetable side) I just did chicken wings from Aldis in the air fryer tonight for supper, so good!

    Hi, Jay -- Thanks for sharing your Aldi grocery haul. We don't have Aldi in our area, and I wish we did. It sounds like you got some good prices on meats.
    I like the way you read ingredient items -- that's important, because so many foods that we often think of as "safe" have sugar and artificial flavors. So scrupulous label reading is critical.

    That was interesting watching you shop. We just got an Aldi in my town. I haven’t been there yet but will soon, once Christmas is over. I was doing carnivore but fell off the wagon. It’s difficult to stick with it when my spouse is the opposite of carnivore. We’ve had quite a few food/treat gifts coming into the house (even though I haven’t baked this Christmas). So anyway, I need to restart because I don’t feel well back on “carbage”. I’m in awe of your weight loss! That’s great! Congratulations! 🎉 That is so inspiring. I have just subbed. Next time you see a tenderloin at a good price per pound you should pick it up. Just cut them into steaks and cook whatever way you like your steak. It’s a very tender, usually expensive cut - filet mignon.

    The celery powder in the meat sticks was as a source of nitrates to cure the meat. But people think that added nitrates are somehow bad for you but also WANT to believe that they magically become safe if the nitrates are natural.
    Nitrates are chemically very simple molecules. It doesn't matter if it comes from celery or Prague #2, nitrates are nitrates.
    For the record, nitrates are perfectly safe. If they weren't, it would be far more dangerous to consume celery than hot dogs. And few people, even on a carnivore diet, would make that claim.
    Tl/Dr - there is no such thing as an uncured hot dog or bacon. They have all been cured. That is what the celery is for - but the USDA doesn't allow it to be LABELED as cured unless nitrate powder is used (as opposed to the nitrates being there as part of another ingredient).

    (I'm not all that concerned about using sugar to draw the water out, as I figure that most of the sugar remains outside, and I only do gravlax once a year. I make sure to use more salt than sugar though.)

    So much cheaper than what we pay for meat in New Zealand. For 2 Ribeye steaks which we call Scotch Fillet we pay about $25NZD. We are a country with heaps of cows and sheep but the meat is expensive and the best quality gets shipped overseas.

    • @Jaylwoodworth
      @Jaylwoodworth  5 місяців тому +1

      High quality meat is expensive here too. Prime is the best commercial grade, and prime-rated rib steaks go for about US$20 per pound. Grass-fed (which I really wish I could afford) is even more expensive. The lower-grade meats do seem to be cheaper here though. $7.99 for the rib roast is an exceptionally good deal even at ALDI’s. If I had a bigger freezer I would have bought more!

    Aldi has some pretty good prices for the stuff they carry. I have a Jewel, Whole foods and an Aldi within walking distance of my house and 2 local supermarkets a slightly longer walk away. For ground beef and chicken Aldi has the best prices and it's always worth checking out what they have on sale. The only bad part is my local Aldi is one of the smaller ones, a lot of the sale stuff goes quickly and it doesn't carry anything but bog standard eggs. I more or less make a trip to those stores every week or 2, they all have different things they carry for the best prices.

    Hey, Jay! Never been to Aldi's, but will check it out. I usually shop at Publix (Florida), which is expensive, but has weekly sales I take advantage of. I've been thinking of maybe Costco and/or BJ's, but am not yet willing to pay the membership. I've tried Latino markets which are cheaper, but not much variety. I'm not fond of shopping at Walmart, tho I hear they have lots of organics (but hey, I'm shopping meat!). Is there a Wild Fork in your area? I actually heard about carnivore diet for the first time while checking out Wild Fork. Met a man who said he was on carnivore (What?!!) I've studied nutrition for years and tried all healthy styles of eating (vegetarian, vegan) and have done a lot of fasting (40 days being my longest), and did raw vegan but could only sustain it for 90 days. I'm enjoying your videos so much as a peer. I like particularly how you walk thru the stores and talk about prices and ingredients. I look forward to your videos and there are quite a few to keep me busy. I like that you are taking us on walks in the country too, and talking about getting older! I also liked your commentary on meditation. Keep up the good work bringing to us your interesting content! Oh, and you still drink coffee (lots of carnivores say no coffee).

      No Wild Fork here, but we have several Latino markets that I like to shop at. The Brazilian butcher is the best. I'll make a video there one day. The majority of my viewers are men, so lots of us are doing this diet now. And there is no way I'm giving up my coffee! Gotta have one vice.....

    • @Jaylwoodworth
      @Jaylwoodworth  5 місяців тому +1

      I’m planning to cut the roast into steaks. If I were to roast it I would cut up some onions and potatoes, put everything in a pan, and then into an oven at 350 until the center of the roast was the right temp. Then serve w horseradish. Of course I would only eat the meat, but good to have the onions and potatoes for anyone who was eating with me.

    That salmon looks a bit dodgy ( never get fish from china or vietnam fish farms) our aldi frozen salmon is sourced from Norway. But its $27.99 AUD a kilo ( 2.2 lbs ). And 99% of supermarkets all have coin trolleys/carts have for years 🇦🇺😊

    Free range eggs are BS in my opinion. The chickens are no healthier but the prices are much higher. Pasture raised is what I look for. That is a meaningful label. Unfortunately, Aldis pasture raised chicken eggs are possibly not really pasture raised. They taste and look inferior to any other pasture raised egg I have seen. I dont feel so good after eating them and that is the real test.

    • @princess2upretty

      @Jaylwoodworth  4 місяці тому +1

      I’ve lost 70 pounds in a few months, which is way beyond my expectations, so I don’t see any hypocrisy. I see good results. And if someone thinks I’m cheating as a carnivore because I drink a cup of coffee, well, I can live with that.
      And I sometimes eat chomps organic grass-fed beef jerky, which contain celery salt.
