In this video, I show you how to build a home music studio for under $300. I show you each piece of gear and software you’ll need including a computer, audio interface, headphones, monitors (speakers), keyboard, and microphone. I also show you how these things work together. In addition to this, I’ll tell you which piece of gear made the biggest impact to my home studio setup. If you’re in trying to setup a home studio for yourself, you don’t need a lot to start producing music. A home music studio these days is very inexpensive and the results are excellent. If you’re interested in learning more about my setup, please check out the other videos on my channel.

I love how he started right away with the video and did not jabber like other UA-camrs
🤐 less is more
I hate it when other youtubers do that, most of the video has nothing to do with he topic
Or they say let’s stop talking and get into it or let’s not waste any more time lol

Seriously!
"How to build a home studio - What do you need?"
Money. You need money.
Hopefully, the dream, first. Discipline, next.
Honestly i found some of this stuff at a great price for great quality equipment. I found some stuff online (Amazon)for the Mac and a couple small equpiment to go with all for roughly $60-$90 all together The other stuff are extra for me at the moment with wires and microphones and all that, but other than that, i found stuff for a great deal with great quality equipment
you need money in so many ways... if you want to produce something, you need money. yeees
And the award for the most unoriginal ripped off comment goes to...
Me living a in a 3rd world country:
Money plus more money and some great quantity of money.
I was vaguely wanting to mess around with free software ten minutes ago and now I'm planning my own studio.
That's how it all begins! :-D You're gonna love it!
@@SanjayC Oh, I know I will. Thanks for the information.
Try Sonar by Bandlab. It's a quality DAW that's free. Cost me $499. before Cakewalk sold it to Bandlab.
You can start with a phone and a guitar really
it’s worth the money trust me
This guy has such high quality content he deserves more subs

thank you bro! I'm new to this set up. been playing multiple instruments for more than a decade and I've just put interest on putting up my own home studio! I'm grateful for this video. Now i am listing each and every equipment i need. God bless you Brother!
Absolutely enjoying all of your videos. This one in particular was a slightly different approach to many of the other videos on the topic of "building your home studio," and was very refreshing. And the video links section...WOW! The most extensive list I've come across on any youTube channel. Thanks.
I like how he got straight to it and left out all the extra editing and bull
Thanks, JAYVIDS!
i have only headphones, a laptop, a mouse and thats it
That's more than enough to cook up some dope beats!
Get a MIDI keyboard
I bought a midi keyboard. (Novation impulse 49) and it definitely helps spark creativity by making it easier to just play around with the keys on a scale or when coming up with different chords. If you have some extra cash then i'd also recommend buying some different plugins for the type of music you want to create. I use Hybrid 3, vacuum pro, and I recently bought synthmaster one and it comes with a lot of different presets you can choose from. I stay away from Nexus as it doesnt give you much options for tweaking your sounds.
Now go hit the fucking charts
Mechapaia Shilla It’s strange that you are saying this, even in drawling you need colors, canvas, brushes, learning and experience. Why would it be any different in music?
I've been making music for fun for about a year now and I finally decided to make a little area to record and produce. This helped alot💪🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
That's awesome! So happy to hear you're getting into production
I just discovered you a few weeks ago, and Sanjay, I cannot thank you enough. You seem like such a kind individual and I appreciate you and what you're doing. Thank you so much!

Get Cakewalk for free! It's a completely free DAW that is unrestricted (unlike other free versions) and has got loads of options! I was very skeptical at first because I couldn't believe that there would be a program that would be completely free with that many functions without any restrictions!
I use FL, and a komplete kontrol midi keyboard. I didn't use the midi keyboard at first, but man, it really is a godsend when coming up with chord and melody ideas instead of just clicking in notes.
Yeah, you can really feel the music with a keyboard
How to control automation with fl on midi witout it recording the mute option? I really struggle with this
@@YasuoMidOnly assign the knob on your midi keyboard to FL then record
I feel ya man, learning how to play piano took my beats to a different level for sure
Use ur pc keyboard, no need to click out notes..
Thank you so much Sanjay. Your content has helped out so much. I’m finally building my studio after putting it off for 25 years. 🤘🌱

I keep coming back to this video, ever since the pandemic started I have been dipping my toes in music production and its from this channel that I have amazed most of my knowledge.
This video was so useful getting started

Thanks, Julie! I try to do that with all my videos. :-D

Sanjay C is studio beats by dr dre a good option?
Is there any way where I connect my Audio Interface directly to speaker or not possible ????
Do you Need an Interface only for mixing and Mastering?.. without bringing in external sounds or voices or can you simply connect your mixing headphones straight to your PC ?
are you from India ???
Yes I am. You?
to be real you are simply the best youtuber for the music learning and guiding ,you are simple , you get to the point and you are really sincere about what you said and do !!!
keep it up brotha :)
Thank you so much for that nice compliment. Keep MTMYL!
The only tutorial/reviews that I hear till the very last second. Sanjay you've helped me build my home studio from almost nothing. I owe everything to you!
I was so confused with the tones of videos out there but your videos are so organized and helpful many thanks for the great video now I know how to start :)
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful!
Bless you for explaining things to where they're easy to understand.
Thanks so much
Thank you for the suggestions. Simple, straight to the point.
This is the most enlightening video literally gave me so much peace. I understand now THANK YOU
For giveaway: my favorite feature of the Arturia minilab mk II is the soundbank of vintage synths. I love getting those classic sounds without having to actually having to buy the expensive synths. Also love the ableton integration
First : You need enough money XD
I would recommend if you don't the funds and if you have a computer and a good set of headphones and some music on your PC or phone. Audacity is a free software to look at and many of DJing software like Serato and Virtual DJ have free version to download. Currently right now, I am using my gaming PC and my wide range music library to play with in Virtual DJ.
This is true
Kastronaut Music also you can use earbuds as alternatives to headphones cause i think they tend to be less expensive
@@sunfish9341 I would recommend superlux for great dj/studio headphones. I have HD 631 and they sound great, but the head bend sucks. But I also have JBL focus 500. In the video, it is great to have many different monitors.
And a plan... and some goddamn faith!
Great video, Sanjay! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I’m really glad that I found your channel. Excellent, well-produced content!
Thank you man, you always say to keep up with the music we love, and this is such a great thing to hear. Thank you

You're welcome, PM! :-D
Thank you so much for this priceless help! It's so hard to navigate all the options out there!
You're welcome!
wow, just getting started on this whole home studio affair. these are the highest quality and the most comprehensive, yet simple videos I've seen so far. Congrats!
How’s it coming along so far? And what sort of music do you make?
Glad I stumbled on this because I’ve just decided to start producing my own music because we’re still on lockdown here in the Uk and can’t go to the studio. 🌸
The fact that literally everybody recommends focusrite stuff is amazing. I have (almost) every type of Scarlett they sell, and every single one is professional quality.
I know rightttt!
This was simple and straight to the point! Thanks for the tipps; I will order the presonus speakers, although not the you suggested, but the 3.5 - tight budget. Already subscribed ; will check out more of your videos. Great content.
Thank you Blu Lacez!
Thank you for explaining this overwhelming subject so clearly and simply! I finally know what to do.
Ableton Push (I just have the first model) was a big investment initially, but it's been core to my music production learning and you can do a lot with it. From drum and instrumental finger pads to adjusting filters for a beginner / intermediate person in music production it has it all!
Yeah, I agree...its the full package for Ableton users!
I like the way u explain things. I am a guitarist and uses guitar rig now i am going into studio recording of my own sonsg
Thanks, Daniyal! Please subscribe...I've got lots more videos coming.
I've always wanted to make a home studio so I can make music; and sing because, I'm a singer and I've always wanted to see things come together and be one thanks for the knowledge definitely going to do that .

You’re awesome man! All the best for the new year!
Thank you, man, for helping me find out how to build my studio. I really like it. I'm gonna follow your steps, and build my dream. Thank you a lot!
I love hearing that! I'm still slowly building my dream studio. Keep in touch and I'll keep sharing my experiences with you here on my channel!
@@SanjayC Your welcome man. You're awesome.
Hey Sanjay, loved the way you explained things so easily. Also, I just bought a midi controller to incorporate contemporary elements into rock music.. And I have very less knowledge on choosing right instruments/tones for MIDI controller.. basically very ambient, psychedelic tones is what i need. If you have any videos on such basics on how to set up midi controller and choose right instruments please share. that would be of great help.
It's like heaven 😍😍😍😍

Thank you for the positivity, Lennard!
I bought the exact same setup for my home studio in 2018 and I had to dig a lot deep for the information which this video provided....trust me...those Presonus Eris 4.5 Studio monitors are really great for a small/medium size room and together with beyerdynamic and Scarlett interface, they do make a powerful setup!
Take my word, and Go for it! ✌
Hey nice to hear you have the same setup. Totally agree its all you really need to make some great music! Thanks for sharing your experience!
BROOO thankyou so much, this really helped and the tutorial was really easy to use as well :)

I'm only 16 years old. But my dream is to become an edm artist. So for getting started this helps me alot. Thanks brother 🌹🌹🌹🙏🌹🌹🌹
You're very welcome. Good luck with the EDM career!
Thank you for video
I'm so grateful for this video Sanjay. Thank you!
You're most welcome
Hey Sanjay really great video!
When i got started with making music i bought way too much gear when i really didnt need it.
People kept telling me that it is mandatory that u have a good set of stuido monitors so i bought some Behringer Truth 2031a, which kinda was a waste of money since my room is really small and i cant position my work station properly to get the most out of them.
So i kept using my Bayer DT-990s Pro anyway since i already had them.
The only thing i would really recommend is a good DAC with an built in Headphone amp like the FiiO E10 to get the most out of your headphones.
Very true. You don't need much to make good music
You are the best bro, it's really easy understand Ü
Thx bro,
Thanks, Alejandro!
this video is so calming
Thanks as always Sanjay! I'm already subscribed and following you haha and Congratulations!🎉
The perfect Video by far on UA-cam. Really simplifies everything you need to get started 👍🏼
Thank you, Jose!
I got a good computer with ableton intro, mouse, mouse pad, computer bag, launchpad MK2, Serato DJ, DDJ-SB2, and nearly 500 dollars to invest in a studio room. I worked hard selling water in downtown Chicago during taste of chicago and lollapalooza. I bought my equipment and I am moving to Arizona. The new house will have more rooms which means I don’t have to share a room anymore. I can finally set up a studio. I just turned fourteen and I’ve always wanted to be on that stage at lollapalooza. My inspirations are skrillex, Martin garrix, marshmello and Moonboy. I hope that you succeed and I wish you the greatest luck in this great industry😁💛
Nice! Thanks so much, my friend!
Should check out Hitchhiker, Dorian Electra or 100 gecs if you want to try some more pop-centric EDM!
Never stop cooking tunes
I've just started my studio and you're videos are helping a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much 🤙🤙🤙
Happy to help!
i finally would have my freedom really soon and 1st thing i have in mind is to record the songs i made so iam soooooo thrill with this video.. I might go
back and forth because im soooo new to this.. Thank u!!!
I use an AT2020 mic going through a Focusrite Scarlett Solo interface to make my music for UA-cam. Works great for a low price.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I got the DT770 Pro Headphones they are easily the best thing I've bought, I love them could not mix before I got them compression was a mystery!
Yes! Another happy viewer! Glad I could help!
Did you get an amp for them or did you find the interface sufficient to drive them?
Best video for beginner. Thanks!
Man, this is the content i've been looking for. Glad to have found your channel
I'd recommend open-back headphones (ex. DT990, DT770 are closed-back) for mixing/critical listening. They are a lot more comfortable for extended periods of listening and have a more linear frequency response in my opinion. If you're recording with a sensitive mic and need to avoid headphone bleed, that's another story of course. Also wanted to add that if your stereo imaging and detail are that much better on headphones, it could be that your monitors are not properly set up. I always thought I had crappy to mediocre speakers until I really perfected the distance, angle and height (equilateral triangle). It made a huge difference!
examples of open-back?
You have a beautiful home

Thank you. My wife my co-designer! :-)
I have loved your explanations🤗
Bro, this is great! Congrats on all of your success.
I just ordered some gear like this, after i get setup I'll let you know how it goes, btw my best studio addition before now was the Zoom h4n, I know, but the budget is the budget, lol, thanks for sharing

Sanjay you do such a great job explaining and organizing your videos! You're a natural, man.
I'm curious if you use any sort of cloudlifter to amplify your sm7b?? It's what I'm currently saving up for and I constantly see people say it needs something to increase clean gain. Thanks!
Thanks much, Jake! Yes, I use the cloudlifter for my SM7B. Its a necessity with the SM7B. You're gonna love the mic! Keep saving up...its totally worth it!
