      The presonus c series it's amazing, it doesn't feels as outdated as the audio box series, great design and amazing preamps, I bought an PreSonus 1810c for like $250 in a sale and it's the best purchase I have ever made

    Informative, easy-going, unpretentious, the time-stamps are highly appreciated to get to the bits one is interested in and, if that's not enough, he sounds like an American guy I once met in a bar in Hong Kong who told me he didn't want to always work his ass off, because he also wanted to have time to go to the beach. What more can you ask?

    Nice overview on the interfaces. When my first gen Scarlett 6i6 stopped working, I ended up swapping it for the Zoom U-44 interface that I bought for mobile use. Turns out to be a good workhorse. There are gain levels for mics and instruments, and volume levels for monitors and headphones plus separate mute buttons for each volume level, I am considering stepping up to the UAD Apollo line in 2020, but now taking a really hard look at the MOTU M4 interface, which I’d like to see and read reviews on. As ever, thanks again!

    I've got a Behringer up from this one, the UMC404, which has four combo mic/line inputs, each with an insert in the back. It's decent, and I actually used it for live sound at a few shows, so it's versatile. But there are annoying things about it. The inputs seem to clip at a ridiculously low level, and its main outs also feel weak (weaker than the playback outputs). The knobs feel OK but they're not intuitively placed.
    I love your positive demeanor, your evenhanded reviewing style, and overall approach! Looking forward to more of your content.

    I got a Behringer U-Phoria UMC204HD around 3 years ago for $80 from Amazon (basically a 2-channel mic input version of UM22). Works great with Live, Logic, Mac, or PC and supports 192k. I use a Focusrite Sapphire Pro 40 for main studio I/O. Both interfaces are not perfect, but very good.

      My behringer 404 is no longer recognized by Garage Band or Bitwig DAW. Have you had any issues with your behringer? I can run inputs and can hear through my headphones. I can't select Behringer as my input when I'm in either GB or Bitwig.

    Thanks and very helpful. Will share your video with my students. The bigger M Audio was my first choice but the interfaces that come with the free Pro Tools bundle might be a good consideration just because it is an industry standard for pro studios. This means , if you're a vocalist, voice talent, or session back up singer, you can actually send your home vocal session as a package to a bigger studio as a session file for mixing.

    Most the 2 channel audio interfaces seem to be too much of a compromise, so yes I highly recommend spending a little bit more to get the next level (or two) up. I researched a while and kept coming back to the Behringer UMC404HD because it was cheap and feature-ful. For $135 street price, you get 192KHz, 24 bit, 4 mic/instrument/line inputs with better gain (and pad button to cut gain for hot inputs) than the cheaper Behringer models, proper headphone in/mix monitoring, send channels (for external processors), midi in/out, 4 outputs (2 main, 2 alternate - using XLR, TRS, and/or RCA). It works on PC/Mac/iOS. It will run off USB power, but with iOS, you'll want to use the AC adapter (included). It has all the pro features of bigger units, for not much more $$. A good choice for me at least.

      404hd or 204hd??

    • @mglohmeyer
      @mglohmeyer 2 роки тому

      @@junpreet9261 If you know for sure all you need is 2 channels, the UMC202HD is great - same quality as the UMC404HD. But if you are new to doing home recording and think you'll only need 2 channels, more likely you will quickly find the UMC202HD is limiting, but 4 channels on the UMC404HD isn't so much. I would only buy a 202 because I need a small cheap 2 channel device. Otherwise I would suggest the 404 any day over the 202. The UMC202HD is about 1/2 the price of the 404 now (about $90 for the 202 vs. $170 for the 404). But as they say, buy what you can afford. The only down side about the 404 vs. the 202 is 2x the size and 2x the price.
      Regarding 2 vs. 4 channels. Why does this matter? If you want to record 2 mono instruments (guitar and a microphone, or 2 microphones for a pod cast), 2 channels is fine. If you want to record 2 stereo instruments (a pair of synths) or more than 2 mono instruments, you will need the 404.
      I recently upgraded to a UMC1820 which is effectively like the UMC404HD but with 8 channels. No HD, though which means no 192KHz. Very few people need 96KHz or 192KHz - if you don't know why you care, then you don't need it - 44.1Hz or 48Hz is perfectly fine. My other upgrade was to buy a Presonus StudioLive 32R (rack mount 32 channel in/out mixer which also works as a 32 channel audio interface). I use the UMC1820 for my iPad, and the StudioLive 32R for my Mac. All my synths (up to 16 stereo synths) can connect to the 32R at once, no swapping cables or even using a patch bay. Yes, expensive and perhaps overkill, but I mention this as an example that if you buy lots of stuff that you want connected all the time, you can never have enough ports.
      BTW, the UMC1820 is about $280 right now. It has basically 8 ins/outs but expandable to 16 ins/outs using ADAT connected to something like a Behringer ADA8200 ($220). The UMC202HD and UMC404HD do not have ADAT expandability, but the UMC1820 does, which helps future proof it a little bit.
      So, I go back to my original comment that for the price, the UMC404HD with 4 in/outs might be just enough to make the difference but still cheap enough to not break the bank. Figure out your budget and buy the most ports you can afford, unless, again, you know for sure you only need 2 ins/outs.

    For a beginner, I’ll be honest, I’d recommend going with something bigger. I really struggled scaling my audio interface to record live performances and play live with my computer. If you get a device with 2 stereo outputs (I went with the Scarlett 2i4), you can have seperate outputs going to your ears, which means the world! I really regret going with my original audio interface, because I only used it for about 6 months before scaling up. I couldn’t be happier with my scarlett too! The latency is super low and it’s super useful. It’s worth thinking that if you ever think you’ll want to play live, you’re gonna need 2 stereo outputs.

    Excellent video, especially the vocal and guitar comparisons at the end. The differences really stand out. I've always used Steinbergs and it's nice to see they stack up well in comparison to the others. M-Audio was also a bit of a shock in a good way, very clear sounding- would probably place that as a close second to the UR 12. While I liked liked the sound of the NI Komplete (you described the colouring of the sound very well), I found it to have a lack of note separation when listening to the chords. i don't recommend it, i've tried the m-audio and the audient id4 and garantee you that the m-audio is better, simply because you can stream media at the same time as using a DAW, while the audient uses asio so it's gonna block all audio sources outside of a daw. TO me it's a deal breaker, and not only that but sometimes even when you close the DAW the sound is still blocked, and you'll have to either unplugg the soudcard or restart computer. It's all marketing, get yourself a focusrite and you'll be good

    • @drfleka

Or working for M-Audio or Focusrite. On Audient i can go low as 16 buffer size. No other interface can go that low and mic preamp is excellent. So if i change Audient i'll go for something with DSP like Apollo.

    • @UnknownNoobKB
      @UnknownNoobKB 4 роки тому

      @@drfleka 1) buffer size is more about your computer than about the audio interface, not
      2) i still use the audient id4 actually, but i'm more like stuck with it and i still struggle with the problem i mentioned, about the preamps i didn't notice much difference in tone and i have made before and after tests. I'm not denying that itbdoes it's job as an audio interface but the presonus i had was sturdier, the focusrite is kinda simply better in everything to me, and the m-audio being 50euros cheaper does the same job and has a better driver, which enables you to stream media while using daw. I'm no liar i can prove anything i say since as i mentioned I STILL USE THE ID4

    • @drfleka
      @drfleka 4 роки тому
