Sorry for all of the heartbreak. Been there myself a few times, and also grew up to Beck's music (Steriopathetic Soul Manure is criminally underrated).
However, I heard some Scientology employees confronted his ex on a plane to get her back on the 'program'. That changes my perception of the song a little bit. But this song is still excellent, as well as 90% of his catalogue is very good, and he seems to be a vibrant human being. I'd say, humbly, stick to the music, believe in alien overlords or whatever, and just don't harass exes and do your thing.

I love this song. Beck is one of the most talented musicians with the ability to play 14 instruments and always keep his sound changing through the years ...a true genius.

They say that a broken heart is a musician's best friend. I guess this is right because it helped Beck on his best album (Sea Change) and this songs is its masterpiece! :)
I never got 90s hipster Beck. It flew over my head. I was working at Tower Records when this cd came out. I was floored. It was the first time I "heard" Beck.

Beck is a genius. Imagine being that creative. Every now and then, even in a world where creativity can be smothered in mediocrity, genius rises and we feel it again.
I remember when this album came out. I was pissed off because I wanted more of a Party Rock album like Mellow Gold and Odelay with less hip hop than Midnight Vultures. What we got was more of a sequel to Tropicalia...an absolutely outstanding album in its own right. This album really blew me away. I can't think of ANY artist who can cover as many genres as Beck...and do it as well as he can. Truely a one of a kind artist. Thank you, Beck. You are truely inspirational.

In November 2021 I'm tired to fighting for lost causes. The song descripe how I feel now.
In the last 2 years my life changed so drasticly and I was fighting for friendship, love and my job... but I realized that I had no chance to survive these without any wounds. For all people I was fighting for it was for nothing because they didn't care about me but I saw it too late....
My energy is gone... no one of these people ask me how I feel now or what I'm doing. So I think I just will fight for myself and for no one else!
But I hope I will be fine and recovered in a few weeks.

I remember him playing this at Hangout Festival in Gulf Shores Alabama. I never heard this sound before. He played it and it gave me goosebumps. I am getting goosebumps again listening to it. Awesome song!!!
There's tons of great song writers and musicians that will never make the big time, and we'll never hear. We are actually very lucky that Beck wasn't one of those unknowns.
Forget Beyond Two Souls, I'm here 100% due to Beck soulful singing and because Sea Changes is an fantastic album that stands the test of time.

Sea Change came out after a break up with his long time GF.
You really should fix the lyrics regardless of what does or does not make sense to you :/ do you want to transcribe the words of this great musician/poet or do you want to write it your own way as you see fit? Beck clearly, and I do mean clearly, sings "There's no one laughin' at your back now" which is as plain as day in this studio recording and in all live performances ever. While I'm at it the last line of that verse which is also never written correctly is posed as a question not a statement which obviously makes a big difference, "Ain't that what you thought love was for?" This is one of my favourite songs all time by anyone since I first heard him play it in 2003 .. I'm not just nitpicking, this is important to me.

Beck made this when he split with Wynonna Ryder...Its, in my opinion his most thoughtful CD ever. He showed real style and his great talent on this one.

Beck's new album "Morning Phase" is done and is coming out in February... and from what everyone who's heard it has said... it sounds like a "companion album" to Sea Change... as if it "could have been written a week later".. but in a good way... I'm stoked... ; ).

I first listened to him about 15 years ago when I was about your age and honestly, the only album of his I don't really like is Modern Guilt, haha. Even his earlier stuff I find interesting because of how eclectic it is. Mellow Gold, Mutations, Odelay, Sea Change, Midnight Vultures, Guero, The Information, The Loser single, Stray Blues... all great albums... the fact that a musician can put out so much good material should be inspiring to many... and I hope to one day get all of my music out there for the public to hear. I heard that he was working on a new one as well and I'm very interested in hearing it, especially with it being another "energetic" album. Something that sounds like Odelay or Midnight Vultures would be great.

I also loved Beyond Two Souls, yet I didn't want anyone to be ashamed of how they found the song, rather I expressed my dissapointment that such a great artist like Beck (and many others like him too!) had to appear in a commercial thing before some people got to know him and appreciated his work. xmalinovy I can understand how younger people may not know beck like we did, he was far more famous when we were young and even still he was kind of under the radar...I mean relatively. Either way the point is solid - they found him now and they have some catching up to do - but I wasn't born when Pink Floyyd was doing their thing...or the Beatles...so I can relate to that.
Oh and for what it's worth. Beyond Two Souls actually did bring me here. I knew the song before, but it still brought me here. I'm glad it is bringing people here who didn't and they get to expand their music library :D
