My mom named me after him, my middle name is beck, she played this album while I was being born. I’ve loved this song since I was around 10, and As I’ve grown older (I’m only 21 currently) this song has only hit me harder with its beauty as time goes on. This song invokes an indescribably deep feeling, just freezes my soul
The last part of this song uses the Shepard's tone to create an illusion of an ever increasing pitch. Christopher Nolan was inspired by this song, and uses this effect in all his movies' score since The Prestige and The Dark Knight.
This song, reminds me of my baby brother. He was so lost. No matter how hard I held on , he slipped through my fingers. Died of an overdose. I miss him so much.
My God, I'm so, so sorry----i know the helplessness of that feeling. This song absolutely can speak to that experience, music saves lives. Know that your brother loved/loves you, and he knew that you loved him ❤
My sincere condolences. I am with you. I lost my older brother in much the same way. Beck always belonged to me and him just the same. This song, this album helped us process the loss of 3 sisters many years before. After he went I was left to process the loss of him. Sea Change was the best thing for me that could truly wring out enough healthy amounts of grief to keep going. In my family though I was the youngest. For you, to have a younger sibling taken away, is totally different..... I can't even imagine. I am very sorry🥺 I do know the pain, I feel you. Devastating sorrow that just takes your breath away. But you and I, my kind friend, we are still here. They are watching us and they are guiding us. And thanks to soulful beautiful inspired music like this, Beck is helping us through fully knowing our hearts are hurting so so so much💙
I must say Beck is a genius and an artist who escapes categorization. I can't believe I never dug deep into his discography until 2024. It is quite exciting getting to experience so much, new and diverse music from one artist! God bless you Beck David Hansen!
I didn't know that. The arrangements and all around production for this album are a clear hommage to Serge Gainsbourg. Just listen to the album "l'histoire de Melody Nelson", it's like extremely similar. Beck's dad must be a fan.
Magnific song.. and one the saddest I know. These moments after an irremediable loss. You can rebirth but you won't be exactly the same person than before. No doubt Beck has known deeply these moments to write this song that fit perfecly this feeling. And one can think that he has found joy again and that makes me happy. As you I am a huge fan of Beck. At the end I think that this song is very special in his career (and whole the album) because it sounds so sincere. No mask. It is so courageous.
One of those few albums where absolutely everything comes together. The writing, arranging, emotion, playing, instruments, studio rooms and equipment, engineering... it's truly a magical album. Holy smokes.
Beck never ceases to impress me. Every album he puts out has something different. Tones, themes, instruments, lyrics... Genius musicianship. Sea Change was and still is a mastery of blending heartache and music. Its dreamy and meloncholly but attentive in its seriousness. Gordon Lightfoot meets Coldplay with a full orchestra.
I remember when this came out and it was one of the few albums that was so well reviewed and praised. It did come around the Coldplay/Keane era so I am not surprised by the comparison. This is such a great album. Beck is definitely underrated.
I disagree. Sea Change is chock full of great tracks. For a good while, I used to skip straight to 'Paper Tiger', 'Nothing I Haven't Seen', and 'Round the Bend'. And, yes, 'Lonesome Tears', and 'All In Your Mind'. This album has everybody's favourite on it - if you've been dumped! Talking of paper tigers - have you heard the original? Serge Gainsbourg's 'L'Hotel Particuliar'.
The ending... A Day in the Life, right? He's just so freaking brilliant. The old technology of the cord phone and the typewriter, white-out- even the robot is old tech robot. The world of color didn't have a text or computer- nature, animals, people. The contrast or comparability to A Day in the Life at the end of the tune. Wow.
The strings on this are so powerful. This is an album I played constantly when it came out. On the bus, headphones on, gazing out the window to work, wondering about my ex..
im so glad i never had heard of this song when my gf of 3 years and i broke up almost 3 years ago. i've never heard a sound wave communicate the feeling of longing that accompanies a deep loss as well as this song. it's so alive with emotion...
Cumulatively -- in all its glorious media -- this is as great a piece of work as Antonioni's L'Eclisse... the great theme not being alienation, but what do we DO with and inside of it? Beck's answer to his filmed dilemma... is the music. The Eclipse. If I could give it higher praise I would, but that's as strong as it gets from this world-art lover.
Just got done watching the Jason Lee interview on Nine Club and I immediately came to this video .. Jason is a wonderful skateboarder, actor , and director .. this is one of my many favorite works from him and we all know how awesome Beck is of course .. much peace and love from Southern California ✌🏻🤙🏻🖤
I love this song so much. I finally got my car fixed after months, and registered and legal etc. I went to the vinyl store and got this CD amongst a few others. I was playing this song loud in a HEB grocery store lot, and a woman came up to the car and thanked me for having it so loud and who was it? That doesn't happen every day. 💚
Lonesome tears I can't cry them anymore I can't think of what they're for Oh they ruin me every time But I'll try To leave behind some days These tears just can't erase I don't need them anymore How could this love Ever turning Never turn its eye on me How could this love Ever changing Never change the way I feel Lazy sun Your eyes catch the light With promises that might Come true for awhile Oh I'll ride Farther than I should Harder than I could Just to meet you there How could this love Ever turning Never turn its eye on me How could this love Ever changing Never change the way I feel
What a trip! Way back in 2003 I was visiting Los Angeles and went to Little Tokyo, if memory serves it was a quiet Sunday morning. As I walked through the plaza I looked over and there was Beck in a white suit stroking a white rabbit. Without thinking I said, 'Beck?' and he looked at me with some annoyance. Then I looked forward and some ways away on an elevated part of the plaza there was Jason Lee with a 16mm camera on a tripod. I went off to one side to be out of their shot but because I was then standing watching what they were doing some other people started to notice and they packed up and got into a BMW 750 with a woman and shot me another annoyed glance. Sorry guys. I never knew until today what they were filming for, just happened upon this video after a chain that started with an SNL sketch (Good Morning Meth) with Jason Lee, then a video about why he dropped off the radar somewhat. Anyway, it appears they didn't use any of the footage from Little Tokyo in the final video but obviously the white suit and white rabbit... this was what they were working on, just the two of them and a woman who was maybe a wife, girlfriend or assistant, not sure. Twenty-plus years later mystery is solved for me.
Discovered this song during a bus ride from Aguascalientes, Mexico, to Los Angeles back in 2003 when I was 21. Strange time in my life. The album came at the perfect time. It holds a very special place in my heart.
No plants (or bunnies) (or doggies) were harmed in the filming of this video. Beck (all of us) was harmed by love, and life can be a struggle. Thx for laying it out there Beck.
This song is really sad, and I don't feel like this right now, but... it's more than sad, it's magic. What an amazing song! I have no words to describe what happens to me while listening to it. "Sea Change" will live forever both in my heart and soul.
Patrícia Ferraz, it's funny, because I am up all night, feeling great, but I'm in the mood for soft somber music and I feel the same way in that I have no words to describe how it makes me feel when I listen to this song.
Each Beck album is so original I never think of it as one being the best. Sea Change, Midnight Vultures, Mellow Gold ... how can you even compare those?
I've shed a tear a few times listening to this and it has me on the verge of tears most times. That's the genius of real music is it's ability to cause us to feel something. Brilliant song!
This song makes me cry for the cracks on my avenue that will never be filled by anything more than blood and dirt and the pain that falls in-between the cracks.
Wow. Always loved Beck . Just heard his live version.. blown away. Then watched the official video no words . He is an incredible artist. I think comparisons to Beatles is accurate. Also Bowie cause his artistry is mindblowing

People go on about the Beatles but Beck has gotta be a contender as one of the most brilliant musicians out there for years.
The Beatles are overrated
@@patrickhines5663 i mean they are the greatest band of all time for a reason
But with the Beatles it had not been done before. Their genius must be put in context.

The string arrangement on this song (Beck's dad arranged the strings) is just perfect. So beautiful, moving, escalating.. amazing.
And that shepard tone at the end... it really hits the spot.
I didn't know that. The arrangements and all around production for this album are a clear hommage to Serge Gainsbourg. Just listen to the album "l'histoire de Melody Nelson", it's like extremely similar. Beck's dad must be a fan.
Yes its great just like him
I wonder were that bridge was at!!!!
I'm not surprised when whole album was dedicated to Beck's losing his gf who betrayed him
this actually made my father cry. I've never seen him cry.

I totally agree! The strings in the background, with his vocal harmonies(sp?) theres true feeling '
Nice one
Coldplay does not even come close to this masterpiece..

Absolute genius ,possibly Beck's most under-rated song.
I absolutly love the musical progression with the strings in this song. Just heartblowing beautiful. Thank you Mister Beck.
i love the beginning of the song. it's like jumping in air and landing in honey..
How could this song have so little views? It's probably the best song on Sea Change! (his best album!)

Beck isn't underrated, he doesn't need to be appreciated by the X factor drivel watchers. Good whiskey isn't to everyone's taste
in other words, he isn't like Kanye West and wouldn't want what hollow Kanye West and his fans are all about.
Not underrated for me, thats what matters.

How could this love
Ever turning
Never turn its eye on me
How could this love
Ever changing
Never change the way I feel
Gorgeous and elegiac
Lonesome tears
I can't cry them anymore
I can't think of what they're for
Oh they ruin me every time
But I'll try
To leave behind some days
These tears just can't erase
I don't need them anymore
How could this love
Ever turning
Never turn its eye on me
How could this love
Ever changing
Never change the way I feel
Lazy sun
Your eyes catch the light
With promises that might
Come true for awhile
Oh I'll ride
Farther than I should
Harder than I could
Just to meet you there
How could this love
Ever turning
Never turn its eye on me
How could this love
Ever changing
Never change the way I feel
Masterpiece 👏
