My dad passed a day ago. Last year he discovered this song, he was a huge music aficionado. It's easier to list what classic bands he did not see. The stones to Nirvana, He rarely found new music up to his par because "hes heard it all" but he found this beck song and urged me to hear it. Hed loop it all the time. He loved it and thought Beck was a genius. I'm laying in his bed unable to sleep playing this. I hope he can hear it. This is the only song that hasn't made me cry in 24 hours (and I just sobbed at Gagas new pop song for christ's sake). Thank you Beck.
Oh Lee, what a very sad and very, very beautiful story. You poor thing, so unspeakably hard to lose your precious Dad. Bless you, and I'm moved to know that this amazing, profound song became just one more special bond keeping you and him close together. Take care x
Aw, well, Hyperspace I don't think went too well and I think quite a few great records came from 2012 and 2011 in the range I think this was posted. Haven't heard much from Beck, but from what I've heard, he's certainly intriguing as an artist. Rock on man, but do take time to acknowledge that 90% of music that has ever been released in any decade was either seen as ok or bad or was a big trend that died out. We only will remember the 10% that stand the test of time. Pretty soon, I kinda wonder if my generation will do this to the next one. Come to think of it, from some comments on music and other bits of culture my generation grew up in, I think it's already starting to happen and it's a little saddening. Heck, sometimes even I catch myself doing it.
I hear ya. I listened to this disc on DVD-A nearly everyday for about a year straight because I was so down. It always felt like I'm not alone in my feelings when hearing it. Like someone else understands me. I honestly believe this is the greatest piece of art I've ever known. There's millions of great pieces of art of course, but to me, this one stands alone in its brilliance. A lot of comments btw use the word "magical". I believe it's more magical then most understand. I believe this music really is magic....It seems to have a power all to itself that effects others on a very deep level. Just beautiful.
I was depressed, smoking weed and listening to this album on the back of my patio for almost a year... I didn't know I was depressed at the time because I walked away from Jesus... But thank God he didn't walk away from me ...if you repent of your sins and put your trust in him he will fill you up on the inside and heal that depression
Put your hands on the wheel Let the golden age begin Let the window down Feel the moonlight on your skin Let the desert wind Cool your aching head Let the weight of the world Drift away instead These day I barely get by I don't even try It's a treacherous road With a desolated view There's distant lights But here they're far and few And the sun don't shine Even when its day You gotta drive all night Just to feel like you're ok These days I barely get by I don't even try

all hail Boognish. and Beck, I suppose. one cannot deny the unparalleled creativity that this man has always had. I'm not sure which is a better opening song: this, or Exactly Where I'm At.
my opinion on his best changes constantly but if i'm being objective it's sea change without a doubt. it's all 10s, the most depressingly brutal representation of heartache put to tape. absolutely traumatizing. an emotional sledgehammer of a fucking record. i literally cannot listen to the first few seconds of The Golden Age alone without being moved to tears every fuckin' time, man. it's almost too much honestly. it's like an acid trip, i have to really get myself together before putting myself through it lolol

Happy for you Dylan. Music is wonderful thing :)
Poor you
Makes you feel understood. I’ve actually done every thing mentioned in the lyrics of this song.
Put your hands on the wheel
Let the golden age begin
Let the window down
Feel the moonlight on your skin
Let the desert wind
Cool your aching head
Let the weight of the world
Drift away instead
These day I barely get by
I don't even try
It's a treacherous road
With a desolated view
There's distant lights
But here they're far and few
And the sun don't shine
Even when its day
You gotta drive all night
Just to feel like you're ok
These days I barely get by
I don't even try

This is an amazing song that will always remind me of when my Mom got sick, my drive to Vegas to see her and her passing.
These days I barely get by.. I don't even try..
Beck's writing touches every aspect of the soul, he's an amazingly under rated artist for his talent - the man's a genius.
WOW,..blows me away...moonlight on your skin...
This song really shows the lyrical genius of Beck
Beck clearly is the best in music, period ;)
I adore Beck. This is probably my favorite of his songs.
That chorus is magnificent my God
When I first heard this song on CD I imagined all this things that are in the video. The road, the sea, Beck on his guitar... God how I love him ...

This song is like a breathe i exhale as smoke and my soul leaving my body filling every crevice , every sad and happy place in the world.

I love it when Beck tones down the special effects. The live sound does him justice.
Beck rules.
I don't know why but I feel like crying when I listen to this song. It is so beautiful, and knowing the background of the song just breaks my heart every time. Yet, I can't stop listening to it.
