It's actually just like Darwin's study! In the Galapagos, Darwin discovered a whole bunch of sparrow species that were exclusive to each island, thus coming to the conclusion that one shared species migrated to the other islands and developed specific adaptations for it. Cool!

I mean it's definitely not evolving into the Alolan version, they are just different versions of that pokemon that you can catch independently then the original pokemon.

I think the Allolan region types of Pokemon is a nod to Darwin's finches whereby different birds evolved different beaks and diets to fit their environment. Super awesome to see this evolution addition

what in gathering, is that normal Vulpix can still be obtained. However you can also obtain the alolan vulpix ONLY in this region and on one specific island. However on other islands you can have a chance of finding the regular one. I have a feeling that because Gen 1 Pokemon are 20 years old, they are "remaking" the old Pokémon in a new style, Also Mega's are almost Guaranteed to appear in the post game, not in the normal game.

Bug looking? Sudowoodo looked more like a Grass type to me when i first saw it... you know acting like a tree and all.
"Fo" means Faux, which means fake. Its not bug type because its a fake mantis made out of leaves, same with Sudo (Psuedo) meaning fake, so Sudowoodo (fake wood) is a rock type not grass...

So yeah, Fomantis and Lurantis are grass types that look like Bug types but that wasn't my point.

I've loved Sandslash since gen 1! Definitely one of my favourite Pokemon and I'm super happy it got some spotlight.

I think they're adding Pokemon forms for this region because of darwins evolutionary theory with the finches. I know that's based in the Galápagos Islands but it just seems logical.

Maybe because it's still a Sandshrew and Sandslash that just adapted to another region. That's like a foreign person moving to America and changing their name. No matter what they'll still have the name they were born with as their original name.
Treat them like they're just different breeds of the same thing. They're still Sandshrew/slash, just from a different region. 'Alolan' is the recognition of that form.
if you want to use real world terms alolan versions are close to being subspecies many which are simply named for where they live.
example; The Grey Wolf is an animal and an Arctic Wolf is a type of Grey Wolf adapted to the arctic region. Sandslash is a pokemon and Alolan Sandslash is a type of Sandslash adapted to the Alola region.
I feel like Snowslash/shrew would have came off like it was an entirely different pokemon plus just using Alolan keeps it simple for naming all the "subspecies"

I have a theory involving the new bird Pokémon, Oricorio. Each of them have a different typing: Fire, Psychic, Electric, and Ghost. And they are found on each of the islands. What if the typing of Oricorio correspond to the typing of the Island Guardian Pokémon? Tapu Koko is Electric, and so is the Pom-pom style of Oricorio, which I'm assuming is found on Melemele Island. Would that mean the other Guardian Pokémon will be Fire/Fairy, Psychic/Fairy, and Ghost/Fairy? I think this might be the case. It's only a theory. What do you guys think?

Shofu Watch the Japanese Trailer, it shows more details like a new move that has coconuts falling from the sky, Alolan Sandslah using iccicle crash and the evolution of the alolan pokemon. The alolan pokemon work like this, if you catch them there in the wild or breed them, then they are like this, older pokemon won't change to these, they have to be native. This probably means the pentagon that shows in a pokemon is natuve to kalos will be back, but this time for alola

Shofu think of it like this, a leopard and a snow leopard are extremely closely related, in fact one evolved from the other but adapted to survive in a harsher environment. The same goes for these alolan Pokemon they are adapting to new environments they weren't use to. Tropical vulpix still exist and will continue to be fire type but these alolan mountain vulpix are the ice types, it makes perfect sense.
What if you breed a fire volpix with an ice volpix? Can they breed and get different moves?

shofu! Think about Rotom forms, Ice Vulpix will probably be in Fire Vulpix's pokedex entry under forms, with it's own description.
That exeggutor would be a real example of evolution based on its environment. Pokemon don't actually evolve, they change through metamorphosis. So I could see exeggutor being the same as it always is outside of this region, and like some examples in the anime, it just being different looking when found in special places.

The dancer thing works with allies too. So it's more of a doubles ability. Assuming that Oricorio learns a tons of dance moves, you can send out 2, and have them both use dances and get essentially double the stat boosts. Pretty cool.

and as far as vulpix/nintales, go: real animals can move to completely different climates/environments and will adapt with time for survival. I can't think of an example of the top of my head, but things like growing thicker fur in colder climates, etc. I think the alolan vulpix and the fire type vulpix are the same pokemon, just different typings. (like how some animals are the same, but slightly different species cause they live in different parts of the world.)

The Dancer Ability sounds REALLY good actually because in multi battles you could have one of your pokemon use let's say swords dance and Oricorio could copy the move, get the buff, and still attack the same turn. Both pokemon get a buff and you still can get an attack in.
This is actually mind blowing yet I am not surprised. When I was in high school, and when Mega evolution became a thing, me and one of my classmates was talking about the same breed of Pokemon looking different and having a different typing. So this is gonna be a thing? Pokemon I am gonna say it again, it keeps evolving.

They probably just looked at that particular Arbok pokedex description thing where arbok (supposedly) had different designs from region to region, or that one pokemon episode with tropical themed mons or a giant magikarp, though alola variants are more than that.

I think they are moving from extremity to extremity is because the volcano island and the snowy mountainous island are beside each other. I think each island will portray an elemental extremity such as what I have already written, volcanoes and snowy mountains.
Oricorio in a double battle with protect, have your other pokemon set up a dance move and the Oricrio while get a free set up

OG Exeggutor is based off a Madagascar "Dragon" Tree. Pretty cool concept if you ask me since it grows into it's true form due to the strong sunlight.
Volcarona and the fire bird sound strong in a doubles match.
has both quiver dance and fiery dance going for it. If it works with fiery dance you get 3 attacks a turn with potential to gain spatk

Vulpix is just like a arctic fox they change based on there environment, also they skin color based on if its cold or warm, look it up shofu
think of the Dancer ability in doubles, tho. if you copy your allies' moves as well then i think it has a ton of potential, at least in that format

Oricorio seems like it would be a pokemon for double battles. You have a pokemon with high speed use swords dance/ dragon dance and then your Oricorio gets a nice stat boost before attacking, and the other pokemon is also there with boosted stats.
The Pokédex in the older games has said that Exeggutor was originally from the Tropics. I guess now we know where!

I feel like if monitor has good stats and a good move pool it could be a new reliable stealth rock Pokemon that turns into a sweeper once it gets up hazards, which could be pretty cool
Minior probably gets faster as well. I think it will turn into a sweeper after half health is down, making it so you use stat moves as the bulkier form until you are ready to sweep extremely hard.
regarding the dance ability. it can be a monster in double battles. have your dragonite use dragon dance and have the bird use protect. then boom both your poke get a boost and the other is protected.
So its kinda like the various different evolutions of real animals that adapt to their surroundings by being in different places.... pokemon is telling us something
For Lurantis, all you have to do is set up a Sunny Day and sweep with no worries.
The new forms look good. That Ninetails and Vulpix looks so good.
Minior's speed raises when its form changes... It says it can dish out quick attacks.
in regards to the dancer ability, it seems that if anyone is using a dancing move the ability activates. So it must be beast in double battles.
