Good skin care, staying hydrated, sunscreen and not smoking really goes far. Lots of middle aged folks now are suffering from the effects of tanning beds and cigarettes. The better you treat yourself and your body, the better tweaks will look as well! Nice video Laura!

I think people in the early 20th century might have looked a lot older partially due to hair style & make up. You’d be surprised how much that can age a person. Some of the hairstyles of the 1930’s-60’s especially have a very mature look. Of course nowadays, there’s also cosmetic procedures, better skincare products, people use sunscreen more regularly. You’d be surprised how much sunscreen makes a difference

Without filters, fillers, dental work, botox, retinol, hair dye etc, we'd all pretty much look like we did in the 80s. I'm content looking my age and having no cares about keeping up with the Kardashians.

Nope. I don't donbotox and so don't many people around me, or fillers or whatever. Black and white photos were basically filtered photos, black and white is very flattering. People are indeed living longer, they exercise more, they also "act younger"

Everybody and I mean EVERYBODY online says Kylie Jenner looks like she's in her 40s. They say that about other influencers like her, too. They've done too many procedures to their face and wear too much makeup. I think it's funny you have her picture in your collage of people who supposedly look younger than past generations. Grace Kelly in her 30s and 40s looked younger than Kylie from age 20 to now.

30 is still young in skin years. Wait till you hit 39. That's when I started to notice a slight difference in my skin, especially around my neck and under the chin. But it's good that you started a skincare routine early. The earlier the better. Diet makes a huge difference too.

Thank you Laura for bringing this up. My mom and I have talked about this not long ago. My grandmother is 93 and we care for her full time. We've gone through photos with her a lot, looked at photos from our town, yearbooks, church photos, etc. You can see how a 35 year old in 1950s look much more mature than one in 2023 for example. My stepdad went to HS in the 60s. A teenager then at 17 (looking at his yearbooks) looks much more mature than one today. I'm 44 and aging can be hard looking in the mirror. It reminds us of our own mortality. Perhaps it's a Western cultural phenomena but aging seems to be a dreaded horrid thing here. If you look at other cultures, being older meant a belief that one has gained more wisdom. The elderly are cherished. Social media made our problems worse in many ways in my opinion. Instagram, TikTok and such find people taking constant video or photos of themselves. They see progression and every flaw. Instead of just trying to be the best version of themselves and how they really are, they obsess over everything and end up wanting to look like someone else. People look like carbon copies. How boring is that? Do I have flaws? Sure. I'd like to change a few small things but overall, and it's partially due to my faith, I don't focus on the "value" the world assigns to me. I'm loved by those who are important to me as I am and that's enough.

That depression aged woman looks older than me, and I'm 57. Also, if you're a different ethnicity, you tend to age slower. However, if you dont exercise and eat properly, it will show through. I use grapefruit oil and geranium oil on my skin, which increases collagen production. I drink liquid collagen as well and take bkack tumeric with piperine.

I'll be 57 in May and I maintain a somewhat youthful look by following a daily skincare routine as I have since the age of 20. I also take good care of my teeth. I do think that Madonna went a bit too far with the injections. She should have just opted for a more subtle tweak here and there and she would have looked beautiful. As far as holograms go, I think that it's a terrible idea and very ungodly. Just my 2 cents.

I am very pale and grew up in the Caribbean. I was always told that I was doomed to age early and badly. In my early twenties, I started to use SPF on all exposed areas of my face and body religiously. Back then, it was SPF 25. When I turned 30, I started using SPF 30. When I turned 50, I started using SPF 50. Last year, at 54, I started using tretinoin at night. Add to that good dental care, good medical care, and pretty good nutrition (I am not giving up caffeine and chocolate, LOL), and I may not look like a movie star, but I don't have any major wrinkles, and there are very few fine lines. Also, and this is clearly just the luck of good genes, my hair has not greyed.

I think there’s some clear differences like the sun. In our grandparents (and even some parents) days it was common to spend a lot of time in the sun; working and for leisure. A tan was healthy. So sun damage definitely aged them. We also get a lot more nutrients and stay more hydrated now. Also there’s less smoking and daily drinking.

Fashion and photography are the main factors for me:
    1. People are used to being photographed regularly, so they know how to put on their best face. that depression woman in the beginning for example was a snapshot.
    2. Prople used to strive to be part of the adult word and act all formal and serious. Now it's the other way around.

People with money can afford to age better, and people in general today take better care of their health like less smoking, drinking and skincare etc. the picture in your thumbnail is woman from the Great Depression, poverty and all that comes with it certainly ages you. People being thinner on average back then and not gaining as much, if any, weight as they age might've contributed to their faces not looking as young on average compared to nowadays. Facial fat filler or other kinds of injectables look fake and give people "pillow face" compared to just having a naturally fuller face because one is heavier all over. When you compare that to women back in the day who were thinner and weren't able to inject their face with anything, then that would make a difference.

  • @AppleBlossomTime
    @AppleBlossomTime Рік тому +1

I think one big thing is that young people *always* think everyone older than them always looked like grandparents. They associate the styles of previous generations with being 'old'. Plus, it's fallen far out of favor for people to assume the role of an adult once they've reached 18-21, and people now are less likely to dress or act the part, so of course someone who was your age in the 50s looks 'old' to you in comparison. There's nothing really wrong with it, it's just kinda how things turned out.

I'm 47 and it troubles me so, to see women my age excessively pursue surgeries and procedures only to end up with the "look". They all have a very similar look from having the same procedures. I do believe society is extremely hard on celebs for aging and with that it trickles down to us.....I look at these celebs and the headlines read "Look how horribly these celebs aged!" and I'm thinking, they have just aged, its not horrible...its natural!!

The filters are so problematic, imo. I was looking for a snapchat filter that would make my skin look clearer during a bad acne outbreak. That was all I wanted it to do. But it seemed like every last one changed my face somehow. Bigger eyes, fuller lips, snatched cheekbones, etc, etc.
I'm 38, so I grew up seeing my own, unedited face in the mirror or in pictures. I can't imagine the pressure on young people growing up and having instant access to that "perfect" face, but then feeling what you see in the mirror will never match up. No wonder teenagers and women in their early 20s are getting plastic surgery or tweaks in record numbers. It just makes me sad that so many beautiful young women are permanently altering their faces to try to chase an artificial reality.
