Let me know if you guys liked this style of video, its definitely a bit different from what I normally do. What plant would you want to see the history of next if I make another video like this? (Or even make it a series...) I should also mention I would only cover the tower defense games, like in this video
You're undermining Torchwood's usefulness in non-endless survival. Gatling Pea + Torchwood is a pretty easy way of beating Survival Hard and you can even use Split Pea in those setups to defend the backline better.
Fun Fact: The ability to hurt zombies while being eaten was actually an ability that Torchwood had in the December 2nd 2008 prototype of PvZ1, albeit it was removed from the final game for whatever reason.
One big balance change between 1 and 2 not mentioned is that in 1, fire peas did splash damage. If you had 10 zombies cramped in a single tiles all 10 zombies would get damaged (the main zombie to get hit got more damage and surrounding ones less but in waves it made a huge difference). In PvZ2 this was removed which made it easy to overwhelm with swarm.
To be exact: fire peas do 40 dmg, and the splash is 20 dmg in a 1*1 area behind the main target, the same as a regular pea. The splash is cancelled if it hits metal (door, ladder or zomboni).
Fun fact: In PVZ 1, Winter Melon's intended AOE is 3x1, but is seemingly 3x3 when zombies are clumped up. But it the end it looks more like 3x1.5 or 3x2, so it still has SOME value chilling zombies alongside torchwood setups.
At this Point I finally unterstand that the new Pop Cap actually does care for balancinc. Edit: A history of the Snow Pea would be nice: From a mid Plant to a broken plant
@@Navman_ Imo Theres no rescue for the Chomper. But I actually for a new Plant Food Concept: what if he could poison every Zombie in a 3x3 area After his plant food by farting? That poison damage would be able to kill every Basic Zombie and Some Special Zombies Like parasol oder jester. Its counters would be every Zombie With the bully Build ( Rockpuncher, Arcade Zombies etc.) Gargs and Zombies who Counter poison.
This video makes me wanna share my personal strat for arena. All you really need is Scaredy shroom, and tile turnip. I do recomend also getting a sun producer and a good defencive plant. For this strat to work, you need to make sure you have a consistant amount of plant food powerups, so if you can, use power lily with this set. All you do is set up 3 columns of scaredy shrooms in the first 3 rows, and save have a bit of sun left over to plant your tile turnips. you're gonna wanna plant 3 tile turnips on the 3 middle scaredy shrooms, and then apply a plant food powerup on the on directly in the middle, and then rinse and repeat. If you're in a zomboss fight, it about 25,000,000 points per round. Just make sure none of the scaredy shrooms on tile turnips don't get eaten, or the whole setup falls apart.
Dont forget the gw2 torchwood, it might be the best version of torchwood because it makes crazy difficulty a breeze with a little bit of healing, not to mention its almost a hard counter to toxic brains.
threepeater,pea-pod,mega gatling pea,pea vine,+ torch wood is such a good combo saved me so much time with the more harder levels(if you bought pea vine and mega gatling pea)
It'd be cool to get a ice version of the torch wood, since there aren't that many ice plants , and the ones we do have are hard to get. Like a pine tree covered in snow that spins when projectiles pass through it, and call it "everfrost," from evergreen and permafrost.

I’m currently doing Penny’s Pursuit to get my recently unlocked Gumnut up to lv5, and I was thinking about how cool it is that peavine made the peas + Torchwood combo arguably the best in the game, just like in PvZ 1. I think that’s so cool.
Great video! Just as an FYI; Certain zombies like excavator and jester do indeed counter appease mint strategies, but you can bring in other plants to counter these zombies. In particular, draftodil can stun jesters while they are spinning, allowing you to attack them. Of course, there are other plants you could use to just kill them before they would start reflecting projectiles
I remember one time during an arena season there was the frostbite caves zombot and I came up with the best idea ever, I put three torchwoods In the middle three lanes 1 mega gating pea for each, 1 fire pea in between them and the next plant to thaw them, and I think I put repeaters at the back and at the start of the level I would plant food the torchwoods and let everything else go to town on zomboss . Since lawnmowers regenerate in arena I didn't care about the outer 2 lanes because dealing damage to zomboss gave you the most points. I think I won every arena match that I used that strat.
Should’ve mentioned how he was changed in the spinoffs being basically a boss in gw2 and also playable character in it and in hero’s he buffed your pea plants if he was infront
I would also like to mention that Torchwood makes an amazing zomboss shield, if you plant one before your offense (even if it isn't peas) when he runs into the Torchwood it does in animation which stops zombossboss immediately
This is a pet peeve of mine regarding torchwood in PvZ2 (and you somehow omitted it), that torchwood being premium plant felt so wrong was because that it was nerfed in 2. To be more specific, it was the splash ability (that you metioned) in PvZ1 that got removed in PvZ2, which made it purely a x2dmg multiplier for pea plants. I’d say giving pea shooters the ability to deal splash damage on top of the x2dmg is the reason why it is as good as it is in PvZ1, removing it is removing half of torchwood potential in PvZ2. Also, you did say that torchwood was perhaps weak against chicken wrangler, and well, I think maybe it wouldn’t be weak against that kind of zombie if torchwood also retains its splash ability.
Torchwood is a sinergy plant, which imo its extremely interesting because on these last days its getting more rare to see this things, and its a shame, because it helps to introduce other plants more smoothly and adds complexity to a game without needing a plant that has 3 secondary abilities. Then again, you could argue that a lot of modern PVZ2 is just "here's an even more broken plant to take over the meta" every update, but the health increase and small melee attack at least makes sense for torchwood and is reasonable, you know? It felt like a step in the right direction, and then they made torchwood basically better guacadile and made snow pea more broken for kicks. It's just a really strange update I guess...
You didn't mentioned that before Mega Garling Pea and Pea Vine, he already has an OP combo with Peanut, Reinforce-mint and Blover as an option and for many it was the go to combo for Arena, Peanut at the back of Tourchwood might look silly but because its part of the Reinforcement family, its mint effect not just power up wallnuts, but also activate the plant food effect so they can have their armor, but because Peanut's gimmick is being a fusion of a Pea and a Nut, its plant food effect its shoot peas and grow a helmet, but a colume of them behind Tourchwood and it will clean the area when you plant the mint, and because Reinforce-mint push back zombies, you can use Blover to clean all the present zombies, even Gargantuars. So with this combo, you plant Blover, instantly plant Reinforcemint, the present Zombies get blown away, the Peanuts start shooting hundreds of peas powered by Tourchwood and all the upcoming Zombies will end up borning, use plant food to recharge Reinforcemint and no zombie will stand a chance.
Just wanted to add that you forgot to mention a really important nerf to torchwood in pvz2. It does not have splash damage, that would make it completely OP in Modern PVZ2 but it also makes it unviable for the endless modes there since the Zombies scale and you need Plants like Pokra or Winter Melon that have splash damage.
I think the only reason why i sometimes use torchwood is cuz of the weaker jalapeno affect not the fire boost cuz i already got fire peashooter (which is pretty good in my opinion)
Torch Wood changed between PVZ1 and PVZ2 - it no longer had that splash damage. In a game as zombie-dense as pvz2, we can see why it became worse now. It didn't magically become a bad plant.
From what i hear its getting nerfed in the next update, theyre reducing the damage of fire peas to bosses and gargantuars, but giving it an aoe GRID ITEM to compensate. This grid item *can* hit the same target multiple times, but as a grid item, it can only stack once per tile, giving a pretty significant nerf to fire peas as most peashooters that are used shoot 3 (threepeater because of ease of access) or mega gatling pea (op)

Holy shit I literally always thought he was facing left with a dumb grin in PvZ1, I didn’t even notice the second eye until watching this.
Torch Wood changed between PVZ1 and PVZ2 - it no longer had that splash damage. In a game as zombie-dense as pvz2, we can see why it became worse now. It didn't magically become a bad plant.
This must be a history of purely the tower defence because if it was the full timeline of torchwood they would have mentioned garden warfare and bfn
i really enjoyed this video thanks ❤❤
For ten years of playing pvz i thought torchwood is looking backwards
From what i hear its getting nerfed in the next update, theyre reducing the damage of fire peas to bosses and gargantuars, but giving it an aoe GRID ITEM to compensate. This grid item *can* hit the same target multiple times, but as a grid item, it can only stack once per tile, giving a pretty significant nerf to fire peas as most peashooters that are used shoot 3 (threepeater because of ease of access) or mega gatling pea (op)
"[Torchwood] has negative synergy with wintermelon because the flaming peas throw out chilled zombies" 😭😭😭
Untill a few days ago i thought torchwood only had the right eye
I loved this video style also im happy torchwood is rlly good because its one of my favorite plants.
Good video, good plant!
"most changed plant"
literally the plant: uhh pea go burn lol
the change: H O T D A T E W I T H O U D A T I N G
I really love your commentary....
I just learned that torchwood in pvz1 can help to see through fog
I remember when I torched my own wood..😢
Haha…wait what?
"You've changed."
We're supposed to.
Do the history of hypno Shroom
I like PVZ2's torch wood.
You can just get it after a week of calendar prizes and it's like an Endurian Jalapeno.
