I feel like the night levels could represent a depressive state since it doesnt generate any sun or energy passively like day, but the sun shroom they provide you is small, cheap, fast recharge and doesnt do much at first, but grows bigger overtime so it could be a analogy of motivation that could add up and become something bigger
@@_Emrakullrooftop probably represents a busy schedule when you dont have enough time for everything, then the unbrella leaf plant represents avoiding stuff by saying no to them idk what the pots would represent though
@@realperson9951the pots could be that during a busy schedule or stress, it takes more energy to use normal tactics compared to the rest of the time, so you need to be more mindful of where you spend your energy. The umbrella leafs could be interpreted as putting time to prepare against unexpected struggles that could make coping mechanisms unavailable at that point in time (e.g. doing time-consuming tasks earlier so that you aren’t sacrificing sleep or hobby time later in)

Also to add: Just like in the game, when the zombies do reach your house and you end up losing, it is the same on how you can also to your addictions, but you can always restart and have a better strategy on what plants/plans and how to use them effectively against the zombies/addictions.
Crazy Dave is not just a phase, it’s commitment, it’s a lifestyle, it is you. There is no single entity called crazy Dave, but a collection of people who want to better themselves. We are all CRAZY DAVE
I thought this to myself and instantly remembered Bionicles. The creator behind them, Christian Faber, was inspired by his battle with illness. That's why you see Toa arrive in pill-looking capsules on the Island of Mata Nui, which is basically a body of a large higher being. Actually incredible that it is possible to project your own life experience in such ways.
Fricking hell go do some sunflower then sign up for a peashooter activity after a few rounds drop a walnut before a cone shows up you can't double your pea you won't have enough suns and remember, this is not a speedrun but a no death run. In parallel dimension: How to play plants vs zombies explained with fighting addictions. EDIT: Can you stop liking? I get harassed by notifications. Thank you!
To cope with your fighting addiction, Remember that the zombies are fictional creatures that appears as your enemy. Even though they're your enemy, Don't fight back. Fighting back will only result for your device to be destroyed. Instead, finding plants that suits your play style will help you cope with your addiction. If you like to fight with ranged weapons, then plants like Peashooter will be the perfect style for you. Explosives? Doom shroom, Cherry Bomb. Melee? Well... Squash but Just play the 2nd game since there's Bonk Choy which is the perfect plant for people with Fighting addiction.
So you’re telling me my entire lawn consists of like 4 rows of wall nuts, a row of torch woods and I’m spamming cherry bomb… how could have I done this? This lawn is disgusting. If I saw this in the game I’d faint.
spamming cherry bombs/instas could be pretty common in hard spammy mods, and sometimes there's things that bypass walnuts (brutal ex for example), so I wonder what parallels you could draw there
I think the lantern actually symbolizes the admitting of a addiction. Because admitting is the first step (clearing the fog), then only can you destroy it
Yea, or admitting tgat even though you've beaten the addiction, you'll always be susceptible to fall back into the addiction over time when you're not careful.
Wow I don't really know how to respond to this to be honest. Thank you so much for the donation and I really appreciate the support and the kind words! I'm definitely planning on making more of these in the future. Good luck with your endeavours!
Instead of using all of that sun for useful attacker plants, I've been planting my 3 rows of wallnuts, so it only delay the inevitables. What should I do???
So a small note with reguards to the sunflower. Just remember, you cant run an entire lawn off of a single sunflower. In game people commonly run two full rows. Its best to have extra prep for those especially hard times. If you can, spend that extra half an hour before bed without your phone or any tech to ensure better sleep.
@@jasongreene7940 oh I know. This is arguably my second favorite game ever. I know a lot of the common strategies, mechanics, and challenge runs. The only thing I don't know by heart is the modding scene, mostly because it's never appealed to me*
@@arrrrrrrr6593 I would imagine the garlic as procrastination of said addiction (aka weaponizing laziness). It wears down over time and only diverts the addictions. I can imagine magnet-shroom as limiting the amount of electronics that you have, even just making them less available (like putting you phone away) which helps weaken addictions by remocing their "armor." I'm not sure about gloomshroom, but I can see it as dedicating your time to a hobby, maybe as part of a club or job. Basically it limits time for you to even spend on your addiction by distracting yourself and slowly getting rid of them.
I’m happy to see that I’m not the only one who seriously compares my real life struggles and coping mechanisms to a children’s game that’s literally about peas and carrots fighting dead people.
@@shadywolf9724I guess intensive carrot from pvz2 could count? It revives dead plants. An idea I have is that reviving plants that you’ve lost before is like a sense of routine. It reminds you of all the coping mechanisms (plants) that you’ve done and the progress you’ve made that the addictions have killed off (plants that have been planted and perished) to get back on track.
@@ludovicstoll2733well addictions aren’t exclusive to stuff like alcohols or drugs so maybe the op means bad habits like procrastination or video games
The only thing i would add (which is what you’re doing for them) is to not go it alone. We’re the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with kinda thing. Find a support group if you’re really struggling. The late Barbara Sher has good info on that. I suggest everyone should go watch her Tedx Talk
Cherry Bomb is actually a great plant, just not a reliable one on its own. If you try to spam it and use it in place of a peashooter, you're going to lose since it doesn't have a way to deal with a consistent stream of zombies. But if you use it alongside Peashooters which are less powerful but offer consistent damage, it will be a great part of your lawn! In the same way, you can use willpower alongside hobbies, sleep, nutrition, etc. to bolter your resistance against these temptations
Yea that's the only inconsistency in this whole idea. He told us to not use and avoid it like ignoring that you have a will power inside of you. Instead you should use it at the right time, when you have a good amount of energy, given that you have a foundation, so that even if you use it once or twice it won't drain your energy, and lastly use it's full potential. Use it when a very hard addiction is threatening you. Using willpower to fend off "eating chips" is not very optimal, but using it to fend off sudden hordes of zombies having helmets and shields is very good, just like how lust is somehow hard to overcome(this varies ofc), especially when it's with a powerful form of utilization made by the evil scientist(s) a.k.a real life businesses corporation. Use your willpower to ignore and/or refuse it, to have sudden exercise or jog outside to make better use of your energy. When you have a good foundation(how sunflowers are sports, hobbies, relationships) of energy sources, you won't drain yourself and spiral downwards and ultimately blame yourself for not being good enough at fending addictions off. Which is obviously an incorrect line of thinking. Of course, you can't just use your willpower alone to reach your dreams. You can't just have unlimited cherry bombs duh, or rather unlimited suns with multiple cherry bombs each eithy separate cool downs. You shouldn't just wait for suns to come down on your empty lawn and then when you gather enough, you use it to generate a willpower to overcome them, which by the time you've gathered enough, the addictions are one inch away from eating you. And ultimately, your willpower's area of effect is only 3×3 while your environment is 9×5 fully covered with helmeted and shielded addictions. Also, you can only afford to use it ONCE, since you don't have sunflowers.
@@twitzmixx8374 There is also the fact that willpower can help with reasources, as its better to use it to mantain your defences alive rather than using more peashooters in middle of horde
I was thinking the same. It's an awesome tool to have to quickly deal with emergency situations and quickly tack control back into your hands before they escalate, but you shouldn't rely on it as a primary line of defense. It's the same with willpower as well: you can't rely on it, but it can still be useful in those one-off emergency situation where you need a quick boost
in the game, cherry bomb is mostly useful in emergency scenarios. you wouldn't use a cherry bomb against one or two zombies, that'd be silly. but if there's a massive horde or a garg, then the extreme damage is helpful even if it comes at an extreme cost. i think it's a similar way with willpower, it's not a useless tool but it should be used sparingly, only when it is needed. it takes a lot out of us but sometimes that is necessary to get through a really tough moment. but after willpower has drained ourselves, we need healthy habits (peashooters) to fall back on, or else the remaining addictive urge (zombies) will just push through while we're recharging. of course in order to tell when you need willpower in the first place, you require clarity (plantern) or else it's like launching a cherry bomb into the empty fog
I was thinking of cherry bombs as rehab, psych ward/hospital, or quitting cold turkey. Basically things that cost a ton of time/money/energy and you can only use them once in a while. They completely stop your addictions for a short period but afterward they still come back
This really is great. As silly as they may seem, the analogies here are well put. I particularly like the part where you say Wallnuts (knowledge) aren't enough to fight the addiction by themselves. One of the best videos I've seen on this topic.
Then you have Endless Mode which tests how long you can last. It gets harder and harder, but eventually it stops getting harder. You can then start counting how far you got without those addictions.
One thing i will say about planterns is remember that you placed them for a reason when you were in an intermission between zombie waves and thus had no zombies actively coming for you. Trust the choices you made when you were in a better state of mind and don't doubt them
Absolutely, excellent advice. A few years back I got into such an excellent mental state, I had forgotten what sadness etc really was, my mind was like an arrow, I was content, happy, positive. I quit doing all the stuff that got to that state, and after some months things fell apart and i had to remember the process that led me to that peaceful, calm, content state.
This is truly one of the most genius metaphors for mental health I've ever seen, associating mental health with comedy, and most importantly, a cute & charmy videogame is amazing! I have been having difficult week, struggling with balancing my sleep schedule, yet I continue to study every single day for the things I want to accomplish for work in the future, today is the first day in 3 days I have re-balanced my sleep schedule, and your video has truly made my day :)
This is the difference between a knowledgeable person and a knowledgable person with great teaching skills. The teacher can adapt knowledge in a way that we can understand easily
I’m very great at Plants Vs Zombies and this actually helped! I’m planting an Ice-Shroom right now to think about my mental state, my defense. Trying to figure out who, what, when, where, and why these addictions exist in my mind, or the zombies on my lawn. Thank you so much!
I used Survival: Fog to simulate my mental state. I learned that I try to wait out certain addictions, which were lower lanes, while I kept certain ones at bay, which were the upper lanes. I have okay central control in both my brain and my mind. So basically, from top down, I defended the upper lanes a lot more than the lower lanes. Even the lawnmowers say so!
For hardcore/skilled PvZ players, their strategy involves skipping walnuts altogether and putting sun producers in the front, while their DPS is safely tucked away in the back. Perhaps that means that temporarily sacrificing the base of operations (good sleep, healthy nutrition, etc) before giving up longer-term habits that took more time to develop (gym, healthy hobbies, etc) is the best move.
@justvibing4796 Yeah I like that. Like the strategy is more effective if you're experienced and know what you're doing, but a screw up leads to a slow but sure failure.
This strategy should not be recommended to beginners because they might not know how to work it properly and end up losing sun power for all their other pieces
Semi-accurate summary below In this video, the speaker discusses how to beat addictions using the analogy of Plants vs. Zombies, a popular video game. The speaker explains that the game's plants can be compared to healthy habits and coping mechanisms for dealing with addictions. 1. Sunflower: This represents the foundation of a healthy lifestyle, including sleep, nutrition, and meditation. A strong baseline in these areas provides the energy needed to tackle addictions and maintain a healthy life. 2. Peashooter: This represents sports, relationships, and healthy hobbies. Engaging in these activities helps to distract from addictions and provides motivation to avoid them. 3. Cherry Bomb: This represents willpower, which can be effective in the short term but is not a sustainable long-term strategy. The speaker suggests that relying on willpower alone is not the best approach. 4. Walnut: This represents knowledge and logic, which can help individuals understand the negative consequences of their addictions. This knowledge can make it easier to resist temptation and avoid relapse. 5. Torchwood: This represents purpose and desire, which can provide motivation to engage in healthy activities and maintain a strong defense against addictions. 6. Ice-shroom: This represents mindfulness and self-control, which can help individuals avoid impulsive behavior and make more conscious decisions about their actions. 7. Plantern: This represents clarity, commitment, and determination. Maintaining a clear understanding of the negative consequences of addictions and staying committed to overcoming them can help individuals stay focused and avoid relapse. The speaker emphasizes the importance of continuously upgrading one's defense against addictions as they evolve and become more sophisticated. This involves improving sleep, diet, engaging in healthy activities, and learning more about the negative consequences of addictions. By building a strong defense using these strategies, individuals can successfully overcome addictions and maintain a healthy, fulfilling life.
There's a cool skin in battlepass and you know it will be gone forever and you have enough money to buy the vbucks but choose not to so you strengthen your will(I didn't watch the video)
So imagine life is like a round of Fortnite. You are walking around, but notice that a bunch of people are trying to hunt you down. Those are CEOs and Addictions trying to enter your brain. It might be hard to defend yourself, but all you have to do is think about your decisions. How should you prepare? How do you defend yourself? What weapons should you use? Well, first, you needs mats. Trees, Stone, anything to help you build your fort. You can get mats by using sleep, nutrition, and meditation. These will all help you build your fort, which represents your mind. But that will only stall them. In order to fight back, you need weapons, like an AR or Sniper. These represent sports and hobbies to keep your mind busy. That will help you take down your enemies. There are also grenades, they take up a whole inventory spot, and you don’t get many, and they don’t do much damage, so you shouldn’t take those. They represent stressed work and impulsive decisions. Now, the enemies are only gonna get stronger with more loot, so you have to also upgrade your weapons and fortress to keep up with them, representing the growing passion for your hobbies. One thing that might be good to have is a Boogie Bomb. If someone gets in your base, you don’t have to use impulsive decisions, you can throw the bomb at them, giving you time to think about what you should do, giving you mindfulness and self-control. But what if your enemies build forts as well? Well, you can use a thermal weapon to discover where they are, and in the case, they represent clarity and commitment. These are the tools you need to know, and you will be sure to win the game!
I’ve never even played Plants vs zombies and this is the best self help video I’ve ever watched. Puzzle pieces just fitting together that have never fit together before
Cherry bomb feels more like a "use sparingly" thing especially when the addictions just jumble up into a massive group of problems, probably just to clear up the lawn before planting some sunflowers and defenses when there aren't some.
Ooh, here's a fun analogy! Hypno-shroom: turning your addictions/problems into coping mechanisms/solutions to combat other addictions/problems. For example, if you're addicted to podcasts or UA-cam videos, you could try listening to them (with earphones, preferably. lol) while you go to the gym! Or, in social outings, you can share a good time with some junk food with your friends to better fortify your relationships! (Okay, maybe it's not a _perfect_ analogy, but hopefully I've made my point clear enough. 😅)
For the ice shroom, a good mindfulness technique ive tried is if I ever feel like impulsively picking up my phone and doom scroll, then I just sit on my hands and wait 30 seconds. Gives a surprisingly nice amount of clarity
Zombies: Addictions Sunflower: Gives you energy to do other things (nutrition, good sleep, meditation) Peashooter: Attacks addictions (sports, relationships, hobbies) Cherry bomb: Fast attack, but short lasting (using willpower to refrain from doing them) Wallnut: Barrier against addictions for a while, but doesn't attack them (knowledge, logic) Torchwood: Makes attacks stronger (purpose, desire) Ice shroom: Pauses addictions for some seconds (Mindfulness, self control) Plantern: Let's you see clearer (Commitment, remebering yourself why you are doing this)
The willpower allegory works better with the doomshroom. It kills all, even the strongest zombies in the field, but it is even more expensive than most defenses, and leaves a crater in the lawn, taking up an space for your defense for a long time. Likewise, struggling to avoid bad habits can be effective in the short term, but it will take up space in your mind that could be better used to actually develop a defense.
These metaphors are awesome and in no way shape or form corny. I personally believe that creating mental images in your mind is far more powerful than just hearing the fundamental words about improvement or information in general, because they make the message far more alive and easier to imprint into the brain. Great video loved it
I have loved this game ever since I was a kid, and incorporating it with real-life aspects is truly heartwarming. My lawn is currently between the Fog and Rooftop levels. Also, I realized just now that I don't have other strategies in this game, that reflected my real-life situations. I hope I can build and strong foundation and energy to continue this lifetime journey.
I had a lot of fun guessing what each plant stands for. Also, metaphors like this one are a great way to re-engage with advice I already heard, but forgot or haven't fully committed to. Great video!
Honestly, this is all very good advice, though I feel like a better analogy for the cherry bomb (that is also more accurate to the game) is that while it is strong, it takes a long time to recharge, so you cannot depend on it alone and you need to save it for times when you really need it. Anyway, very good video nonetheless. Finally my dream to play Plants vs. Zombies in real life can become reality.
Love this idea! It'd be cool to see some more discussion on this kinda topic. Using games to make analogies for topics like this makes them way easier to understand! Might keep this video saved so I can check on what my lawn's been lacking hahah Oh and I have a small thing I wanna add. Cherry Bombs (& what they represent) are actually pretty solid, but they're only meant to be used in emergencies. When there are a bunch of zombies when your defenses are weak, ya use a Cherry Bomb to take em out. Similarly, you should only use your sheer willpower & all when the temptations to indulge in an addicting thing get too strong! Again, it's important that they're only used in dangerous situations, not willy-nilly
I mean videogames are commonly used to distract people from real life issues but I think a person solely basing off their mentality of a videogame or animation series can potentially become a mental illness on its own.
Imo, cherry bomb represent motivation. It helps for a short period of time, giving you some time to prepare your defense for future attacks. You can't always rely on it, but in the moment it can be that one reason, why you didn't lose game.
My thoughts: "This video is gonna be the craziest, weirdest shit ive ever seen" The video: "This is gonna be the craziest weirdest shit you've ever seen"
you made me one important thing realise. The reason I am failing to nofap is because, I am not planting all these plants all together. I am focusing on only one aspect at a time which becomes the reason of my downfall. I kind of knew this for most of the concepts of the world but I never thought of applying it to my own struggles, so now it makes all sense that why I always find myself relapsing. I am weak on all four sides, and was trying to put barrier only on one end. No wonder
This is a very interesting way to summarize literally all the self help in a very simple manner and its very easy to remember this way. I was amazed that after watching the video, i was able to remmeber it all with the exception of a few points, quite accurately. Thank you, all this is pinned on my wall.
Agreed. Very easy to remember and digest. I was thinking of pinning it on my wall too lol, by making a little diagram of the lawn from the game and put different things i can do to better my life in place of the sunflowers, pea shooters, etc.
This is a really good video and the Plants vs Zombies analogy makes perfect sense to me to understand my own nicotine addiction. Using your Plants vs Zombies analogy in my case I think it's that I don't have enough sunflowers as getting proper sleep is something I struggle with most nights. Great video and very well explained.
This actually makes so much sense. How am I gonna get back into ice baths, breathing exercises and these healthy hobbies if I don’t even get good sleep and eat enough food. I can’t plant any peashooters if I don’t have any sunflowers. Now I know what I need to focus on which is planting those sunflowers 😤😤😤
Pretty funny how the cherry bomb is the best plant to actually kill the zombies out of the plants you mentioned I would also add another comparison, doom shroom, widely considered the best plant in the game and a necessity if you want to play ENDLESS could be compared to nuclear warfare, as if your country is at war, you'll probably get drafted and won't have time for addictions
@@snivydream yeah they’re good but that wasn’t his point. Try beating a few rounds using ONLY cherry bombs. I do somewhat disagree with the idea that will power is bad. It’s difficult, it takes a lot of discipline but I wouldn’t say bad.
Honestly, this is a better video advising about combating addiction through a Plants vs. Zombies analogy compared to most videos I watched this year which also have a similar topic. A good year-end video for me to watch! Thank you.
I'm glad you put meditation with the other baseline defenses like "diet" and "sleep". It's really helpful to know that meditation isn't some high level technique, it's something you can do before anything else. Training your focus even makes it easier to get better sleep and nutrition.
How can meditation improve energy? I just don't understand it. I spend about an hour a day, not consecutively, just staring at the wall or nature while going for a walk, which can be considered similar to meditation. I still find myself severely lacking energy and my sense of purpose doesn't seem strong even though it is sometimes and my dreams are astronomically large. I eat really well, better than 99.9% of the population. I sleep 8 hours a day. I get regular exercise. I have relatively healthy relationships. I just don't understand why I sometimes (4-6 days a week) completely lack the desire to do anything. I don't want to watch TV, I don't want to learn, I don't want to play videogames, I don't want to exercise, I don't want to read. If you've gone through this and know exactly what the right thing to do is I'd owe you so basically my life.
@@1tubax I'm no doctor or psychologist but you could have a hormonal issue (something like an interactive thyroid) or some kind of depression. I'd say make sure to keep going to regular checkups, see an endocrinologist if you're not super young just to make sure this isn't something physical in the body. You also might consider that as hard as life is even while having healthy habits, it might be even harder than if you did not do these. Everyone has a different base line.
Meditation is about feeling yourself and being present in your body. While staring at the wall, are you there or are you somewhere else with your mind? Also what you describe sounds like you might be depressed. I wish you lots of luck on your journey
This is a really interesting video, as the analogy of PvZ and addictions/bad habits works pretty well, all things considered, I enjoyed it a lot and sparked a lot of creative thoughts. I think one more plant could work in this case: Hypno Shroom. I think seeing addictions as only-bad is a very one-sided view, so why not...recognizing some aspects of them as your ally? An addiction to eating too much is bad, but that doesn't mean we should stop eating. An addiction to phones is bad, but how can we message our friends and family if not with this revolutionary new technology? The thing is, Hypno Shroom could represent the "critical thought" and "open mind", and actually stopping and thinking "wait, how is this bad and how is this good?". For example, using your phone only for what it's useful for, like communication or research, or using AI to study, but making sure it doesn't become your only way of learning (as it can mislead you sometimes). So the zombies can become your ally in defeating the other zombies (as exercising critical thought breeds more critical thought). BUT you should be careful about it, as Hypno Shroom is a very long-recharge plant, requires some sun and a coffee bean to work (during daytime) and works with one zombie at a time! Meaning, do not try bruteforcing every addiction with critical thought, or you will get overwhelmed and fall again into them! Take it slowly, build your lawn, and use Hypno Shroom to slowly turn zombies to your side, one by one, and you will become unstoppable! :)
It could represent the extra energy and effort required to defend against certain addictions. This can also extend to the pots on the roof except on the roof you're trapped in a location that is much harder to defend because of the tougher addictions and extra energy required.
@@3rv0nn3 Elaborating on the commenter above me, if lilypads/pots represent extra effort, they could also represent therapy. Meaning in situations where you seemingly cannot plant anything, an external help can be the thing that makes you able to put in that extra effort, and start building your lawn again! And maybe then, pool and roof levels could represent various levels of depression or unmotivation🤔
Edit: Called Fume-shrooms Gloom-shrooms Edit 2: Someone made a better theory I'm gonna add Puffshrooms to this. Puffshrooms, in the game, are a low cost, low recharge, low range mushroom that do a lot of damage. They cost literally zero sun, which means you can plant them in Night and Fog levels without losing a lot of Sun They also do the damage of a peashooter Their recharge is very fast as well, idk what plant to compare it too though However, their weakness is instead of being a full range plant, their range is three tiles, when in the game rows are 5 tiles This makes it so one or two puffshrooms don't do anything against the zombies, but if you can get a lawn of them, or even just have three columns near the front of the lawn of them, they do a lot. They're usually used with other plants, like Fume-Shrooms or Scaredy-Shrooms, but can carry on their own until 2-5 in Adventure. If you have enough, they can even kill stronger Zombies like Disco Zombies So I think puffshrooms would represent the little things in life, the little moments you enjoy that last for a few seconds On their own, they seem pointless, but eventually they add up to a happier life if you learn to find and appreciate them, since they are everywhere
Ngl this is not even a bit cringe at all. All the knowledge and points are optimized in a logical and creative way to learn. Thank you for is absolute amazing video and keep going, u have a new subscriber today!! 💪🌻
Thanks captain. I needed that. I'll try. I have the wallnut. I'm working on my sunflowers. The lack is in my pea shooters and torchwood unfortunately, the 2 biggest issue and 2 most important ones. Wish me luck.
Good point. The lawn mowers represent the many mistakes and "2nd-Chances" that other people or life may give you. ...but there's only so many mistakes you can make before you make a mistake that becomes irreversible. Be careful!!
I love this video so much. The idea itself is inherently hilarious, but the concepts are explained so digestibly, yet so wholly. The analogy works far better than one would expect, too. This is going in my "best of UA-cam" playlist.
I am not kidding when I say this is one of the best videos I have ever seen. The idea is creative and brilliantly executed. You got a new subscriber and a like as well, shared it with all my friends, super useful stuff!
This is an incredibly insightful and helpful video. The categorization makes ot a lot easier to be mindful on what things one is lacking in their own life while comparing your strengths
Man the only thing i wanna say is wow that is the best video that combines video games and self improvement in a way that makes you fight those addictions more easily You deserve more subs my man
Wow, this video is amazing, show us the power of a good analogy. And it makes total difference to understand something. All genius are good to built analogies and make peoples understand complex concepts.
God at the end I've just realised how barebones my defence is. Sure there's peashooters and Torchwoods here and there but atleast half the lawn is empty
I love Plants vs Zombies and I do watch personal improvement videos since the last year. I have been improving my life but addictions used to vanish my sense of progress because they always seemed to appear again, I broke my own promises but I know this year will be different thanks to my experience with the last year but most importantly, thanks to your video. I always learn something when watching this kind of videos but all of the comparisions you have setted on this video made me understand better and summarize what is the plan for this year and basic thoughts that I can easily recall whenever I need them to actually get a better life quality and meet my goals. Props for you man, you have opened my eyes.
I find it funny that back then when PVZ first released everyone around me considered it as a hella addictive game that's hard to put down. That single fact really makes this a pretty weird watch, but very informative noneteless.
Havent played this game in so long, this takes me back. You know i think ill download it and do just one real quick playthrough, just to better relate the the analogy of course
So i battle my addictions with a lawn of wall nuts and cherry bombs…but not enough sunflowers to give myself enough sun for this strategy to work. This is making an extreme amount of sense
This is the best self-improvement video i’ve seen; not a long video but packed with information, no bs, fun and easily understandable examples (i’ve never played pvz) and solutions on how to build your defenses. Good job Cappie!
Okay I don't know exactly how well this fits, but I have a correction on the cherry bomb that I feel like fits pretty well with the willpower metaphor too. The cherry bomb isn't actually a bad plant, in fact it's pretty useful, the thing is, it just can't be the plant that you rely on. Cherry bomb is great for cleaning up the moments where a gap is successfully pressed into your defense, so it can be fairly helpful if you use it just before your defenses are beached to give you time to rebuild, but shouldn't be relied on, as when the next wave comes, if you don't have your defenses set up again, you'll just lose anyways, and willpower's similar, perfect for getting you away from a temptation if it just shows up out of nowhere, but can't help you on its own if you're not taking other steps as well.
I was a bit skeptical about this video at first, but as it went on I realized it could help me beat one of my worst addictions, League of Legends. So, I'm going to take this advice, and start working on it. Wish me luck!
I am ASTONISHED of how well this works and how right it is. Not only does it explain the battle versus addictions well, it also teaches you what you need to battle addictions, when to use them and how powerful and important they are. Amazing video, felt like it was only a 5 mins video because of how good it was.
This is my new favorite video. I've struggled with mental health all my life and I always thought if the world wasn't such a mess maybe I wouldn't be so depressed. So a small note with reguards to the sunflower. Just remember, you cant run an entire lawn off of a single sunflower. In game people commonly run two full rows. Mine is just Wallnuts and Planterns, sometimes Cherry Bombs and using the rake at the beginning…God I need to get better
Get sunflowers
brother, you coulda made this 2 years ago and saved me thousands on therapy
Holy shit he actually explained it in gamer terms
Cherry Bomb is actually a great plant, just not a reliable one on its own. If you try to spam it and use it in place of a peashooter, you're going to lose since it doesn't have a way to deal with a consistent stream of zombies. But if you use it alongside Peashooters which are less powerful but offer consistent damage, it will be a great part of your lawn!
In the same way, you can use willpower alongside hobbies, sleep, nutrition, etc. to bolter your resistance against these temptations
Like dude was dissing cherry bomb! He’s like super effective in hoards, and how else are you supposed to get rid of the evil VR Gargantuars!
@@twitzmixx8374brilliant explanation, 10/10
They completely stop your addictions for a short period but afterward they still come back
Im not sure what your definition of willpower is but you need willpower for fucking everything including healthy habits
Gargantuars are November
This really is great. As silly as they may seem, the analogies here are well put. I particularly like the part where you say Wallnuts (knowledge) aren't enough to fight the addiction by themselves. One of the best videos I've seen on this topic.
You here too?! Woe nice.
Then you have Endless Mode which tests how long you can last. It gets harder and harder, but eventually it stops getting harder. You can then start counting how far you got without those addictions.
I really like the analogy here that zombies represent addiction. Just like zombies, addiction eats our brain
This is such a comically specific metaphor for my (and others watching this) situation, is not only hilarious but also very helpful
The walnut has to be patience, and Iceshroom has to be motivation that stops all zombies in the map temporarily.
The piranha plant might be patience
For hardcore/skilled PvZ players, their strategy involves skipping walnuts altogether and putting sun producers in the front, while their DPS is safely tucked away in the back. Perhaps that means that temporarily sacrificing the base of operations (good sleep, healthy nutrition, etc) before giving up longer-term habits that took more time to develop (gym, healthy hobbies, etc) is the best move.
@justvibing4796 Yeah I like that. Like the strategy is more effective if you're experienced and know what you're doing, but a screw up leads to a slow but sure failure.
M8 you are just insane
@@radiacia_3511 lol maybe
This strategy should not be recommended to beginners because they might not know how to work it properly and end up losing sun power for all their other pieces
This strategy isn’t needed in the first game and is almost needed in pvz2 due to all the special zombies
Semi-accurate summary below
In this video, the speaker discusses how to beat addictions using the analogy of Plants vs.

Go play plants vs zombies 😮
This is only for pvz players

Zombies: Addictions
Sunflower: Gives you energy to do other things (nutrition, good sleep, meditation)
Peashooter: Attacks addictions (sports, relationships, hobbies)
Cherry bomb: Fast attack, but short lasting (using willpower to refrain from doing them)
Wallnut: Barrier against addictions for a while, but doesn't attack them (knowledge, logic)
Torchwood: Makes attacks stronger (purpose, desire)
Ice shroom: Pauses addictions for some seconds (Mindfulness, self control)
Plantern: Let's you see clearer (Commitment, remebering yourself why you are doing this)
Yes, wise people one said,
If you're tired and wanted to give up on your purpose, remember at the beginning, the reason you're starting at doing it.
Cob cannon: determination
It's quite incredible that this man managed to explain such a topic in this way
The willpower allegory works better with the doomshroom.
This video is genuinely the best Self Help video ive ever seen.
he explains this perfectly, and warns you of what's to come, this man is a genius.
Studying Psychology to become a therapist, i’ll totally be using this in the future!
Funny thing, I’m just playing level 1-1, I just haven’t really placed a peashooter yet.
We're beating our addictions with this one :🔥🔥🔥
Honestly, this is all very good advice, though I feel like a better analogy for the cherry bomb (that is also more accurate to the game) is that while it is strong, it takes a long time to recharge, so you cannot depend on it alone and you need to save it for times when you really need it. Anyway, very good video nonetheless. Finally my dream to play Plants vs. Zombies in real life can become reality.
Why does this comment make me emotional? It seems that you're ready to commit
I need this courage in life.
Love this idea! It'd be cool to see some more discussion on this kinda topic. Using games to make analogies for topics like this makes them way easier to understand!
Might keep this video saved so I can check on what my lawn's been lacking hahah
Oh and I have a small thing I wanna add.

Pretty funny how the cherry bomb is the best plant to actually kill the zombies out of the plants you mentioned
I would also add another comparison, doom shroom, widely considered the best plant in the game and a necessity if you want to play ENDLESS could be compared to nuclear warfare, as if your country is at war, you'll probably get drafted and won't have time for addictions
Best solution to depression: nuke your city
Also boy do I have wallnuts
@@snivydream yeah they’re good but that wasn’t his point. Try beating a few rounds using ONLY cherry bombs. I do somewhat disagree with the idea that will power is bad. It’s difficult, it takes a lot of discipline but I wouldn’t say bad.
@justvibing4796 well doom shroom does leave a crater in game, thought, yes irl the crater would be bigger
The PTSD from surviving a war will be very detrimental to the development of sunflowers when you go back to a peaceful life
Honestly, this is a better video advising about combating addiction through a Plants vs.
@@capnbarky2682 thanks a bunch, I'll greatly consider all this
Meditation is about feeling yourself and being present in your body. While staring at the wall, are you there or are you somewhere else with your mind? Also what you describe sounds like you might be depressed. I wish you lots of luck on your journey
@@1tubaxthat sounds like depression man, try to seek help and locate where your problems could be stemming from. Therapy could help, I’ve done it.
Bra I thought the walnut was a potato 🥔
not the “walpotato”
So the wallNUT was a potato to you?wow.
@@berni5641 not everyone thinks in english, it took me 6 years to realize peashooter shoots pea
@@siebenvii what.
@@siebenvii youre 13 now?
Ive been cherrybomb spamming for a minute now, i have many sunflowers and a few walnuts but i dont have any peashooters or firewood.
Love this!
if you can answer this, what does lilypad symbolizes?
Nice
Edit: Called Fume-shrooms Gloom-shrooms
Edit 2: Someone made a better theory
I'm gonna add Puffshrooms to this.
Puffshrooms, in the game, are a low cost, low recharge, low range mushroom that do a lot of damage.
They cost literally zero sun, which means you can plant them in Night and Fog levels without losing a lot of Sun
They also do the damage of a peashooter
Their recharge is very fast as well, idk what plant to compare it too though
However, their weakness is instead of being a full range plant, their range is three tiles, when in the game rows are 5 tiles
This makes it so one or two puffshrooms don't do anything against the zombies, but if you can get a lawn of them, or even just have three columns near the front of the lawn of them, they do a lot.
They're usually used with other plants, like Fume-Shrooms or Scaredy-Shrooms, but can carry on their own until 2-5 in Adventure.
If you have enough, they can even kill stronger Zombies like Disco Zombies
So I think puffshrooms would represent the little things in life, the little moments you enjoy that last for a few seconds
On their own, they seem pointless, but eventually they add up to a happier life if you learn to find and appreciate them, since they are everywhere
Puff Shrooms I guess stand for the little things in life. They seem insignificant at first glance but they add up and lead to a good conclusion.
Wish me luck.
having a pvz hyperfix and watching this makes anxiety seem easier to live with
And the mow lowers would be learning from mistakes and the warnings of doing something before it's too late.
Good point. The lawn mowers represent the many mistakes and "2nd-Chances" that other people or life may give you.
...but there's only so many mistakes you can make before you make a mistake that becomes irreversible. Be careful!!
It is wallnut what does all of this things
I love this video so much. The idea itself is inherently hilarious, but the concepts are explained so digestibly, yet so wholly. The analogy works far better than one would expect, too. This is going in my "best of UA-cam" playlist.
Lmao I have a Playlist with the same name
I am not kidding when I say this is one of the best videos I have ever seen. The idea is creative and brilliantly executed. You got a new subscriber and a like as well, shared it with all my friends, super useful stuff!
i believe this is in the top 5 best videos ive ever seen, and I'm an avid youtube enjoyer
That is awesome to hear man :) thanks a lot
This gives "zombies on my lawn" a whole different meaning 💀
as a person who loves plants vs zombies this is amazing how well you explained this and its fun how its a more fun way of explaining stuff like this
This is an incredibly insightful and helpful video. The categorization makes ot a lot easier to be mindful on what things one is lacking in their own life while comparing your strengths
Man the only thing i wanna say is wow that is the best video that combines video games and self improvement in a way that makes you fight those addictions more easily
You deserve more subs my man
Wow, this video is amazing, show us the power of a good analogy. And it makes total difference to understand something. All genius are good to built analogies and make peoples understand complex concepts.
this is the most pvz thing i have by far watched today, thanks for the metaphors!!

I could be planting more plants like peas, cherries, and ice shrooms but I only have three sunflowers.
So i battle my addictions with a lawn of wall nuts and cherry bombs…but not enough sunflowers to give myself enough sun for this strategy to work.
This is making an extreme amount of sense
Lawnmower is a symbol for acceptance and persistence to keep going after failure
Yeah, Go Go Go!
Unironically the greatest self-improvement video to ever exist, it doesn't get better than this, the genre has peaked
Very recently I started therapy and I learned a lot about how to identify stressors and tons of coping mechanisms, and I think you hit the nail on the head with these things. You've accurately summed up all the things I learned in therapy and all the things I thought in this video and you did it using one of my favorite games: Plants Vs. Zombies.
This video IN A SINGLE DAY became your 9th most popular video and keeps growing ( 10 k Views ) while the others mainly have either a month or a year
so this mean that you should make MORE content like this because its amazing 👍also no pressure ya choose what ya wanna make
This is one of the most creative video I've ever seen, this is like the mnemonics on how to improve your life.
i like that he actually knows the plants and what they do and is not just using some generic plants to make weak connections
