same case here! I am physically very active, am social (at least when I'm at school), try to eat always as healthy as possible.. but the thing that throws everything out the window is my lack of sleep; I barely even get 7 hours per day because of wattpad/tumblr reading :// adding to the equation that I am a very big procrastinator and often struggle to get things done hgjhdhjdgfjhabja
A trick I use to stop procrastinating is to tell myself that I would do that thing for as little time possible, like studying or exercising for 30 seconds. As soon as I started I would realize that it wasn't so painful and keep doing it
I watched a video recently where a guy advised that you set a timer for 5 minutes to practice guitar, so you didn't make the excuse of having no time to practice, 5 minutes quickly turns into 10 then 20 etc. Works for me.
Yet another strategy I use is (after getting started doing your objectives) is breaking down the time I work an hour into 45 minutes of work and a 15 minute break, but I set a 15 minute timer for all of it. This let's me know how much work I an achieve and how much time could be wasting, allowing me to optimize my time spent and also challenge myself to work more efficient or faster. This depends on the hobby though of course.
I’ m a teacher and ı think people tend to procrastinate the things they wanna make or learn because of they think if they dont spend their max effort and time there will be nothing meaningful. For exp if a student wanna learn a lesson thinks like I need to study this subject/lesson for hours, but studying for hours is boring or I dont need enough time for it today, lets try it the other day. And the other day will be just the same. U need to understand that if u dont do anything about something u ll get nothing. If u do whatever u wanna do for maybe a minute, maybe 10, maybe 1 hour doesnt matter it will progress. So u wanna learn chem u can start with 10 min. study every day or every weekend as u wish, finally after a few months u definitely have knowledge about chem. We always think like if i make many hours effort suddenly we will be perfect on it. But reality is if u spent efforts, even tiny efforts like baby steps u will learn how to walk
Modivation and procrastination still to this day are things I struggle with but not because I don’t want to put the max effort in school for me the problem was ADHD where I could learn Morse code in a week (which I have done ( this is called hyper focus for those with ADHD) yet not be able to do one homework assignment without having a breakdown so most of these tips teachers gave me to “just try” and not be so called “lazy” never rlly worked, keep in mind I still took medication for this yet it wouldn’t helped fully and that’s not ever possible for it too, and I don’t think many ppl keep in mind how many ppl have disorders like this that can also cause these problems :)
My procrastination is so bad, I can't even finish this video even though this is absolutely something I needed. I really appreciate motivational posts like this.
I say: anyone who procrastinate on this video is a bi*ch, a sl*t, a good for nothing, lazy *ss f*ck, p*d*ph*l*ac fat *ss, r*t*rd *ss, Mr. No bi*ch*s, lonely *ss f*ck, m*therf*cker, smooth *ss brained, st*p*d, m*r*nic *ss, d*ckhead, *ssh*le, piece of a fat *ss rat sh*t. period, lol I want your opinion + feel free to agree to disagree! Lol your choice how to react
Hey i saw u finally finished the video. Proud of you!!💖 i was having trouble finishing the video and was about to give up (like. Two mins in), but this inspired me to watch it all the way through:)
*"I'm going to study at 6."* *"I'm going to study at 7."* *"I'm going to study at 8."* *"I'm going to study at 9."* Me talking to myself: why are you like this
The "details get easier to learn as you understand the broad idea" is SUCH a good point that I'd never thought about before. I study economics and the graphs are quite frankly a fucking nightmare to understand, but the more you understand the fundamental point behind them, the more you start to grasp the equations.
"Your brain remembers things by importance-" I guess that's why I remember things like what some stranger's hat looked like at Disney World 15 years ago but I don't remember where I put my car keys.. wait a min
You forget that " it's probably because you didnt really have a need for it ". Like for right now. Example eating with family then we forgot keys, because family is important, than keys. ? Debate
you probably were really exited at disney world 15 years ago thats why your brain thinks its important. but your car keys are nothing important to the brain because you use the car alot and leave the car keys somewhere (probably) all the time.
Fun fact: the brain actually has near infinite memory/learning capability! (Well, it's actually 10^100 factorial synapses, but that's close enough) Yes I know this is a joke I just wanna share the fact.
Breaks into a morgue, uses a syringe to steal some long-term memory storing proteins from an interesting looking dead body, injects them into my brain, and I never eat ice cream again because of that one time I drowned in sugar.
Nope. I pretty much only feel motivated to do stuff in the middle of the night, but then I don't do it because it will mess up my whole schedule and everything. Ugh.
I’ve always wanted to learn a second language. I finally dived head long into learning French at the age of 31. Happy to say after five months I’m hitting an intermediate level and still learning new words and phrases everyday.
that's awesome! I'm in the same boat, wanting to learn a language, but I've been so hesitant to start. I've learned it in school for a while but didn't let it click because I was more focused on getting good grades. Your comment is very comforting to read, I wish you the best on your journey you're doing great! :)
I am a constant victim of the comment section. I start watching a video, and then wonder what the top comments say. Because you'll find out quickly if the video is worth watching that way. Then I get sucked into the witty comments, and the video just becomes background noise.
One of my weaknesses that I want to overcome is sharing my thoughts out like this one. This video just helped me take initiative and engage in the comments section! I get very anxious and I fear how people would reply to me and this video just inspired me to make this year of mine to be full of knowledge and new learnings. Thank you so much!
one thing that helps me is being vocal about everything you have learned. if you tell people about something then your brain learns it in a new way, your brain will also be able to pick out in consistency.
That's like when the breath gets knocked out of you. I've always been angry about that stupid physical reaction because it's like poring salt on an open wound. You get smacked so hard your ribs vibrate, and your body is like. "Oh! You're in pain? Let me give you something to take your mind off of it. Now you can't breath! Hahahaahah!"
Schools should be set up so that we can explore our interests early and then begin learning them somewhere in our teens. Why devote 12 years of your life to that when you could spend 6 years being introduced to a ton of different cool stuff and then another 6 to narrowing down your options. I just hate school- it kills creativity.
This man just read my thoughts and put them into words and explained every single one of them in chapters, thank you, this motivated me to start programming again
I actually procrastinated to even watch this video. I just put it in my watch later list and now months later here I am. Update: Now I’m procrastinating to do what the video is suggesting I should do, at stopping myself from procrastinating.
*I watched the video so you have no excuse to procrastinate* 1. Don’t wait for motivation, just do it 2. Do big tasks by small pieces 3. Sleep, socialising & exercise 4. Cut out background noise and do it yourself 5. Understand the basics before the branching into more abstract details 6. Practice independently and repeat on what you’ve forgotten. 7. Don’t just learn new information, take a time to process it
Key points of the video : 1.We dont feel like doing new things is because learning new things triggers the same part of the brain which gets triggered when we get hurt so we should stop thinking and start doing it. No one is gonna come and help us in that. After when we start doing the new things after some time when we dont get the desired result then we tend to stop doing it here's the catch we should not stop here and continue to work. 2.Learning is repetition amd relearning. Have a sufficient amount of sleep and stay physically active (doing workout) 3. Even with everyone's help we should do things by ourself. 4. It gets tough thats when it gets easier. Learn about something so deeply that it feels like real. 5. You still have to do lot of studying. If you see something wrong start over again. 6. Don't study one thing over and over again. 7. Everything is about the process. Keep taking small steps and one day you will be on the top.
Notes for anybody who needs to review: 1. Stop procrastinating, just start doing it. Do it now. The biggest hurdle is putting it off. When you start doing it, there'll be a point when you'll get frustrated because there's no instant reward/gratification, so you'll get distracted and put it off again. To solve this, just start doing it again. Long term satisfaction is worth more than the short term. Take initiative. 2. It takes time to remember things. You can't soak it up everything right away. Learning is about repetition. Don't try to learn everything about a subject all at once. You can focus on certain areas you're really curious about first. For example, you don't have to follow an instructional book in chronological order you can focus on the pages you need now, and then when you come back to the same pages it'll be a refresher. Additionally, sleep lots and exercise. Interact socially with other people. Give yourself a break and let your brain rest. It'll prevent yourself from burning out, improve your mood and strengthen your motivation to continue learning. 3. You have to try it out and apply what you're learning by yourself. Practice what you've learned. Your brain has 2 modes of thinking. The focused mode (logical/left-brain) and the diffused mode (creative/right-brain). You can shift between these 2 modes. When you're learning something new, eliminate all distractions so you have total concentration. This'll increase the efficiency of your memory. When you're just reviewing something, you can listen to music or videos in the background. You can let your mind wander because you're just reinforcing what you've already learned. 4. It will get more difficult as you continue learning something. But it's alright, that feeling is normal. Try to understand the main ideas and not get stuck in the details. Your brain will eventually connect with the more complicated things. 5. Study, review and test yourself on what you've learned. However, don't just study one area. Go back and forth between different things so you give yourself space to repeat and process these things you're learning. 6. It takes time. It's a process. It can be stressful. Learning something new is daunting and that's why most people don't do it and procrastinate. But understand that you don't have to know everything right away. Start off with small steps. Do it gradually and over time you'll be surprised at how much you've learned.
Been drawing since 6th grade and professionally now for 2 years and I can say that this would’ve been extremely helpful during middle/high school era and one thing I would add is try to have fun or find someone with similar interests so you have someone to relate to
When I’m to lazy to learn something I remember all of the other people in the world doing learning the exact same thing I want to learn, then I do it because I like competition
1 - Procrastination: just do it (despite how much your brain dislikes it) 2 - How to remember: SYNAPSES --> make what you learn important / sleep well / exercise / don't be a shut-in neet 3 - Outside help: 2 sides of the brain, use them appropriately. Don't let others "learn for you". 4 - Tough new things: Learn it until you make it relatable, don't get stuck with the details 5 - Practicing: balance the 2 sides of the brain (learning / creating); practice again what you got wrong the first time 6 - The process: don't expect pain of the learning, focus on what you can do with what you have right now to get better Hope this helps! Also, great video, you explain things well with a small touch of humor
Thanks. I liked this. In the theme of learning, it helped me refresh what was in the video and think through it again. One big point in the video that I liked was also that how well you learn something is linked to how important you think that is. That to really learn something, you need to create a need to learn it, or make it relevant to you.
I grew up as a smart kid, never really trying to do things, just learning naturally and being praised for that. Then I grew up and started noticing that I have a really hard time learning things, specially because I never learnt how to, in fact, try. Nowadays I get both angry and sad with myself for being so bad at everything, specially at learning, and I also started dropping everything midway or never starting something new. My English is my better example, I started learning when I was 8 and after a few years struggling with it I stopped learning, now I have a very bad pronounce, a really strong accent and a terrible grammar, basically, a very broken English. I'm trying to cope with my expectations and trying to lower them, I'm also trying to throw the idea that being bad at something or trying hard is the same as a failure and that this will make my parents less proud of me, what, in fact, happens.
Yesss. I know this feeling. Growing up as "the smart kid", then growing up and falling flat. Realizing you picked up everything as a kid but never actually excelled at anything. Lacking long term ambition and discipline. Now you have this horrible fear of failure. Fear of starting. Fear of trying. Fear you won't live up to being the smart kid you were supposed to. It hurts. It's like a trap.
This.... I grew up us a smart kid and through middle school excelled just like that.At high School and college I became average but could not figure out what was happening. I always used to get frustrated at college and think I am not smart enough.Being smart as a kid made me think that discomfort when learning is a sign of failure not progress. I am 28 and have realized this now that there are ways with which we learn and how we should be retaining concepts and internalize them before moving on to complex things. Old habits die hard and I need to do a lot of change . I just hope I made the right realization and I have enough time to turn my life around.
E conforme você for fazendo as coisas, todo dia, você vai se disciplinar. Não é impossível. Você ainda consegue.
I think everyone in the world needs to watch this. It’s how to be successful explained in under 12 minutes and refutes myths about people born with talents or making excuses. Go work!
BRO YOU HAVE NO IDEA FOR THE LAST 2-3 WEEKS I'M LIKE PLEASE I NEED SOMEONE OR SOMETHING THAT CAN GUIDE ME AS IN LEARNING PAIN AND DUMB PLEASURE AND BALANCE BETWEEN THEM. Thank you so much, you have no idea how much I needed this video..........
"If you have forgotten something, it's probably because you did not have a need for it." Then how come I keep forgetting how to do simple math but remember the entire fresh prince of bel air theme
That’s because you liked it try and trick ur brain to like stuff u need to learn, personally that worked for like two months and my brain got tired or My body got tired idk actually but it stopped working
Heh i had a friend in school who used to get us all together in the 15 mins before a maths test and teach us a song about the formulas. She's a school teacher now. Maybe the reason you don't remember your maths is because you didn't learn them to the tune of the fresh prince of bel air! 😄 But likely it's because you need to create more of a need for those particular mathematical concepts in your life.
Well, I guess math problem solving and music listening are different things and you use different senses to each one. You cannot do simple math but can count from 1 to 10 without thinking about which number goes next!
Summary (for future reference): Chapter 1: Procrastination You don’t like the idea of learning something new because it adds a small amount of stress to your life and as a result can cause anxiety. Solution is: JUST DO IT. The pain of learning will go away quickly, JUST DO IT, NOW. Remember this: Long term Satisfaction is far better than short term joy. Chapter 2: Remember what you learned Brain remembers things based on how important they are so make your brain think the things you are learning are important. Reinforce and strengthen the synapses in your brain by doing things multiple times and going over it multiple times. Don’t tackle everything at once and focus on the things you really need to improve on. Most important thing in the whole video: SLEEP, EXERCISE AND SOCIAL CONTANT IS EVERYTHING, PRIORITIZE THESE THINGS, no compromises, you hear that? NO COMPROMISES!! Chapter 3: You are on your own. 2 modes of thinking, focuses and diffused. Focused with 0 distractions is for learning new things. Diffused is for expressing. You must do things yourself, problem solving is part of the process. Chapter 4: It gets tough Get across the major idea, don’t get lost in the details. Your brain will learn easier if it has something to relate to, so try to get to that point. Chapter 5: You must study You have to test yourself to remember things, this is why it needs to be important, because you know that you are going to test yourself on it. Try to do things from memory, mistakes are fine if you correct them and learn from them, this is apart of the learning process. Don’t refuse to learn new things when you get good at remembering things you already learned. Set aside time for deliberate practice. Don’t focus for very long periods on just one thing. Change between things and don’t be scared to mix things up. Set time for dedicated learning and time for free exploration for optimal improvement. Chapter 6: Everything is about the process Procrastination is normal. Unfamiliar things will feel strange and uncomfortable. Don’t focus about everything up ahead all the time, focus on the things RIGHT NOW. It will become easier the more you do it. Initiative is everything, without this there is no learning. Put in some investment of time, you will get something done, no matter how small you did something and that is what counts.
*Things I learned about learning things:* 1. The most effective practice is 'Deliberate Practice': Not just going from step 1 to step 2, but wanting to learn a specific thing, where the skill is the tool and not the endgoal. You learn faster when you want to learn to play your favorite song, photoshop a new hair color on yourself, or make those jeans shorter. 2. (If you aren't disciplined AF:) Don't focus on reaching your goal, but make the process a part of your identity and lifestyle. If you want to read more books or lose/gain weight, you need to become a person who enjoys reading, or someone who cares for their body. Adapt your lifestyle a little bit. Not only will it be easier to keep it up, you'll also be less hard on yourself and feel more pride for your long term achievements instead of shame for not doing well enough in a short term. 3. Know what to go for and what to give up! (or put on hold) Yes, it would be sick to be a multi talented musician, but it's very unsatisfying to dream about playing 10 instruments for years and just not do anything. Either buy a secondhand instrument, start there and go for it, or make peace with the fact it's just a fantasy and stop saying you're gonna learn it in the future. You can always change your mind, but at least you won't have to feel guilty about not having started 3 years ago. And maybe when you give up on 9 of your 10 dream skills, it'll create space to actually start that 1 skill.
The advice is good until number 3 which is basically saying it's okay to give up just be positive and I don't really want to agree on that because right now I am on a belief that anything that I dream to become I can achieve it. Of course i'm also taking a reality check like becoming an astronaut is really hard and close to impossible but that's why you need to have boundaries and these boundaries help you understand that despite the belief you still need to know that it's not enough of making it as an identity but rather know where you stand and keep improving. When I want to believe on something I dream of it everyday and to not get frustrated I always set to be aware of my boundaries and then improve on what's lacking.
@@jairusenad9333 Really? I interpreted it more like don't let your dreams be dreams, but if you're NOT going to take the shot quit standing at the foul line holding the ball running the timer down.
Three years ago, this very video changed my perspective about learning anything. It really was a starting point. Now, I really enjoy the learning process. I learned how to learn, I'm really doing it.
Haha, I was always told as a kid that I was special and unique, that I was smart. Because of that I never studied. I never had to. I hear it once, I do it once, I ace it. That's how it always was. Imagine my surprise when I don't understand something right away. I genuinely thought something was wrong with me. It was so hard to get into studying, since I never needed it before. I'm now able to study, but if I don't show talent, or an aptitude for something right away, I get frustrated and drop it. I'm still working on that. Tbh, I wish I was never told that as a kid, it ended up being one hell of a handicap for me.
In school, I was a prodigy. I paid so much attention to my teachers that I never actually studied till I got into engineering. In uni I came across this problem you are talking about, and god it was hard. I skipped classes because I had the freedom to do so, and shit came right after, because I had no idea of what discipline and being organised was. It took me two whole years to get on track with all of this. All of us are the famous "underachievers". It's a shame, really
That’s true but maybe the reason you didn’t need it is because you didn’t do what you wanted to. You learned some piano but forgot because you didn’t play for months.
One thing I do wanna say is that with something creative like drawing, I think it’s okay to be a bit more loose! Of course anatomy is important, and lines of action can help a lot, but it’s okay if you wanna do something different. Art is such a unique thing, so putting everyone in the same box of learning realism and anatomy isn’t always the best thing (even though it may be for some people). I can’t say the same about learning other things, since I am only speaking from my perspective as an artist, but I think art is one of those things you’ve got to figure out for yourself. Everyone’s art is different, so don’t worry if you’re anatomy is a bit wonky or your shape language is weird. The most important part is having fun, because it leads to the most expressive art :)
It's always when I want to learn something I say something like: "I wish I had started this 10 years ago, I would've already mastered it by now.", which is stupid because I'm never going to start anything if I could have started it before. I actually identified the axioms for productivity and one of the most important ones, which you talked about in the end is to focus on the process. It's always the problem with this type of people (including myself), which is we are too enamored by the results but we don't actually enjoy the process. There are many examples: people who really love music but don't know how to make it, who love drawing but can't draw, who love gaming but can't develop games. It seems that we love something too much sometimes where it actually hinders us. Passion is not the be all end goal, it's a big lie. So many times you see fans being more passionate about the artist's work much more than the artist themselves. It is because they have a mystical view of their product. When we see that amazing painting, song or game, we don't look at it as a technical thing. A drawing isn't a series of lines, shapes and colors, it is a 'masterpiece', something that is produced by the divine grace of the artist. We don't like to question that and shatter the illusion because as long as that thing is so far off our capabilities, we also don't feel the angst of needing to reproduce it, because it is something we would never be able to do. TL;DR: the most important advice to learn anything is have a PROCESS oriented mindset rather than a goal oriented one. Passion is a lie, and many times it hinders people rather than assist them in pursuing their crafts. You have to be passionate about the TECHNICAL details of your material, not the end product, because liking to put effort into it is what will make you eventually develop, rather than daydream about what it could turn out to be in the end.
Agreed because I'm mostly goal-oriented in drawing. Over the years, there's always this constant feeling of "I should do this perfectly" which sometimes led me not to draw at all. I still tried, but it's exhausting because I don't think I'm getting any better unlike artists I look up to. It just hurts me to see them doing better than me so I just get discouraged. I'm trying to change now though. It's tough since I have this tendency of being perfect on my craft, but I put aside my goal-oriented mindset and instead master this craft one step at a time. Believe it or not, I started to like the process more unlike several years ago! To those people aspiring to be an artist, it's okay to have someone to look up to. But if you really are passionate and willing to master this craft, get your pencil and eraser! Search some stuff online, one step at a time so you won't be overwhelmed :)) Have a good day!

@@YedidahMVO But _how_. I can get why or when I would do it but _how?_ What does it even look like to start something? This is the shit that gets me caught in the feedback loop, not any other reason but the _how_
It's like cleaning your room. Once I start actually doing it, it's kinda fun. But all the months and anxiety before that moment happens..*sweats nervously cause it didn't happen for a while*
I can bit relate my past self to what you say. So imma pop some wisdom. First, check if your insomnia is physically or mentally related. as in - is your brain fucked up, or you just had an awful sleeping patter for too long of a time that you end up sleeping poorly. I had a latter one. Both of sleeping disorder and anxiety is really well tackled with discipline. Wake up every day at 8, 9 am. No excuses. No going back to bed. No naps. I repeat, no naps. Discipline yourself. Your brain is manipulator but can be manipulated as well by... Well... Itself. You will be like shit for week or two and then you may click in. If you have issue waking up - there is app called "cant wake up alarm", that requires you to do tasks to turn it off. So. Put 3 alarms with 3 different annoying sounds and place phone on opposite side of room. Again, this is just in case if you fucked yourself to insomnia stage. As for anxiety - push yourself one step more..do it simple. I had anxiety to go.to store and buy cookies. Then i went and bought cookies AND smth new that I wanted to try but made me uncomfy to buy it...as in new taste of a soda or new chips... Small steps. Then set goals. Do here, do this, do then. raise those goals as you challenge yourself. Few things to remember: Find mantra songs. Something that will remind you to live, not to waste time in a bubble. Personal favorite that helped me kill anxiety fully, just 2 months ago - baz luhrman's everybodys free to wear sunscreen. Adding physical exercises when you feel like making excuse will, scientifically proven, help. Dont push yourself on all fronts. Step by step toward a new horizon. New life. It will take a long time, there WILL be setbacks, but - dont allow yourself to make an excuse and ruin what you are building. You may sacrifice learning. But do it. Mental health comes first. (I studied my uni for 7 and half years, due to anxiety, depression and cowardice. It took time, but I beat them all together). Also, every anxiety has its root. Mine was education, aka due to uni and my cowardice I developed anxiety. Finishing uni helped me unchain shackles. In other words - find a root of an issue, cause there lies an answer to healing. Focus on solution, not on a problem. Last but not the least. Dont say "I cant do it" or stuff like that. It does take shitload of time, but it will be worth it. You are worth of it.
Learning can also get you out of this insomnia and social anxiety ! Just find something cool to learn and try to learn it. It's not hard to learn to draw (some basics stuffs) and really rewarding ! Plus, you will meet new people if you go outside to draw and convert you insomnia into beatifull drawings ! Love.
I started doing this too, A few months ago I entered a comic competition with barely any skills in digital art or comics. a few days ago I wanted to learn to dance so I could do dance covers in public. So I pulled up a Stray Kids Tutorial and learnt it in two days. With no experience in dancing whatsoever other than maybe school plays when I was younger and that weekend I did the dance in public and because I had kept practicing despite my anxiety It actually turned out great and I got a ton of support. Push yourself beyond what you think your limits are you'll be greatly surprised by the outcomes.
that would be great if I lived alone. Would be able to learn so much active things, but being around family members who I don't trust makes me sit all day looking at PC in isolation. Can only learn passive things there :'(
"Take Initiative" That's a hard thing for many members of a group project to do in school. Usually, it takes till the last minute for somebody to "take initiative" and actually text the group what the plan is going to be only to not have anyone respond.
Thanks dude! Watched this video a few years back when you posted it. Ended up really buckling down and learning a multitude of useful skills: Music, Animation and Comedy Writing. I saved this video and decided to return back now to show my appreciation. Much love!
It really is black and white. **You** are the only person who can start something, but finding ways to approach it that works for you is something you need to do.
@@pv4842 Mmmmmm It _could_ be gray though... So what if I just sit here... and someone... breathes for me? Please? I haven't breathed in the last minute I might die of oxygen deprivation. PLEASE?!
The worst part is, I couldn't keep focused on watching this video. Kept clicking away to watching other video's but then coming back to try and finish it.
Man, why do I always find comment of yours (I mean ppl with same dp that you have now). Amazing, this is my question¿¿ why is this man famous ( yours dp)??
the taking breaks thing is VERY important. When learning anything, even a sport or something mostly physical, the thing that gets worked up the most is your brain. Oh, you wanna learn bass? Well guess what, your fingers are not going to be your main problem, your brain is. Take breaks, sleep, and when you feel like you can't play right or learn anything for the day, leave it at that. You've reached your limit, and you literally can NOT go over it
This actually makes sense in an evolutionary sense. The brain uses a lot of energy to function. Learning something new makes you use your brain at full power, which wastes a bunch of energy. 1 million years ago, using that energy is a risk, since you didn't always have food available. Another thing that's good for you and activates pain is exercise. Do you see a pattern? Pain is activated to stop you from using energy, so that in the old days, you'd have to be convinced that you NEED to exercise/learn in order to do it.
What i've learned:- 1. First and foremost just start doing ( our brain finds ways to trick us not to start sth we've thinking for a while) 2. Repetition is the key to remember what we've learned. Sleep, exercise and social engagement also plays crucial role 3. Focused mode and diffused mode both are important to learning 4. Whenever i get stuck in sth that is quite hard or boring or abstract try to figure out the major key ideas and then fill in the details 5.We have to practice "ourselves"
i hate myself because i always want to learn something, and it takes a lot of time to make some iniciative and when i started to do something, like right now, drawing, i realize that is much harder than i thought. So instantly, all this difficulties start popping in my head and i get stress and finally giving up. Even tho, i still trying to stop doing this. Thanks for your video! The sleep thing was very interesting. I remember learning and reviewing Japanese for a few hours and then after waking up I just "knew" everything from the night before. But in a weird way I knew it almost better.
ooo I'mma try that as well, recently I've been hearing Japanese in my dream as well, it's not like it's naturally there usually I'm listening to it and aware that I don't understand everything but I still try to speak back. Maybe it'll increase if I do this
Since sleep is important to learn, I will take that as my first step. Goodnight y'all
And lie in bed looking at phone

I am physically very active, am social (at least when I'm at school), try to eat always as healthy as possible.. but the thing that throws everything out the window is my lack of sleep; I barely even get 7 hours per day because of wattpad/tumblr reading :// adding to the equation that I am a very big procrastinator and often struggle to get things done hgjhdhjdgfjhabja

A trick I use to stop procrastinating is to tell myself that I would do that thing for as little time possible, like studying or exercising for 30 seconds. As soon as I started I would realize that it wasn't so painful and keep doing it
Whoa
I watched a video recently where a guy advised that you set a timer for 5 minutes to practice guitar, so you didn't make the excuse of having no time to practice, 5 minutes quickly turns into 10 then 20 etc. Works for me.
Thank you, that is a great strategy.
Omg it actually works
I needed this and it's me. I think i NEED to study for hours and i dont do it, so i put it off. I need to take little steps like you said.
I didn't study much, because it meant nothing to me. I still did well in school without 'study stratagies,' or knowing how learning takes place.

The "details get easier to learn as you understand the broad idea" is SUCH a good point that I'd never thought about before. I study economics and the graphs are quite frankly a fucking nightmare to understand, but the more you understand the fundamental point behind them, the more you start to grasp the equations.
"Your brain remembers things by importance-"
I guess that's why I remember things like what some stranger's hat looked like at Disney World 15 years ago but I don't remember where I put my car keys.. wait a min
haha lol
You forget that " it's probably because you didnt really have a need for it ". Like for right now. Example eating with family then we forgot keys, because family is important, than keys. ? Debate
you probably were really exited at disney world 15 years ago thats why your brain thinks its important. but your car keys are nothing important to the brain because you use the car alot and leave the car keys somewhere (probably) all the time.

Yes I know this is a joke I just wanna share the fact.

Not enough space for a system update
But I need that new update :( . Guess I could delete a game or two until I upgrade my brain storage

*I watched the video so you have no excuse to procrastinate*
1. Don’t wait for motivation, just do it
2. Do big tasks by small pieces
3. Sleep, socialising & exercise
4. Cut out background noise and do it yourself
5. Understand the basics before the branching into more abstract details
6. Practice independently and repeat on what you’ve forgotten.
7. Don’t just learn new information, take a time to process it
I'm sorry sir, seems like i need to procrastinate.
I took a screenshot of your comment so I could remember this every day.
Key points of the video :
1.We dont feel like doing new things is because learning new things triggers the same part of the brain which gets triggered when we get hurt so we should stop thinking and start doing it. No one is gonna come and help us in that.
After when we start doing the new things after some time when we dont get the desired result then we tend to stop doing it here's the catch we should not stop here and continue to work.
2.Learning is repetition amd relearning.
Have a sufficient amount of sleep and stay physically active (doing workout)

Notes for anybody who needs to review:

1 - Procrastination: just do it (despite how much your brain dislikes it)
2 - How to remember: SYNAPSES --> make what you learn important / sleep well / exercise / don't be a shut-in neet
3 - Outside help: 2 sides of the brain, use them appropriately. Don't let others "learn for you".
4 - Tough new things: Learn it until you make it relatable, don't get stuck with the details

Eu tenho exatamente o mesmo problema. Porém, esses dias, eu decidi que eu quero mudar. Só comecei a fazer as coisas, não importa o quão difícil ou ruim parecesse. "If you have forgotten something, it's probably because you did not have a need for it."
Then how come I keep forgetting how to do simple math but remember the entire fresh prince of bel air theme
Wtf why is that so accurate
That’s because you liked it try and trick ur brain to like stuff u need to learn, personally that worked for like two months and my brain got tired or My body got tired idk actually but it stopped working
Heh i had a friend in school who used to get us all together in the 15 mins before a maths test and teach us a song about the formulas. She's a school teacher now. Maybe the reason you don't remember your maths is because you didn't learn them to the tune of the fresh prince of bel air! 😄 But likely it's because you need to create more of a need for those particular mathematical concepts in your life.
It's very important
Well, I guess math problem solving and music listening are different things and you use different senses to each one. You cannot do simple math but can count from 1 to 10 without thinking about which number goes next!
Summary (for future reference):
Chapter 1: Procrastination
You don’t like the idea of learning something new because it adds a small amount of stress to your life and as a result can cause anxiety. Solution is: JUST DO IT. The pain of learning will go away quickly, JUST DO IT, NOW. Remember this: Long term Satisfaction is far better than short term joy.
Chapter 2: Remember what you learned
Brain remembers things based on how important they are so make your brain think the things you are learning are important.
Chapter 4: It gets tough
Get across the major idea, don’t get lost in the details. Your brain will learn easier if it has something to relate to, so try to get to that point.
Chapter 5: You must study
You have to test yourself to remember things, this is why it needs to be important, because you know that you are going to test yourself on it.
Chapter 6: Everything is about the process
Procrastination is normal.
Thank you so much

"Be socially active"
Me as an introvert: ah
I'm convinced for us that part is not required.
Social skills are important for introverts too.
Introvert isn't about not socializing. It's more about how much and with whom do you interact
@@tigran-iii good luck finding someone to interact with without socializing
@@KoylTrane he literally said it's Not about not socializing at all but the selectiveness and time frame of it.
This video is amazing! The learning strategies are simple yet effective, and I’ll definitely apply them right away. Thank you for sharing!
*Things I learned about learning things:*
Thx....lmao ima use this.

Three years ago, this very video changed my perspective about learning anything.
It really was a starting point.
Now, I really enjoy the learning process.
I learned how to learn, I'm really doing it.

I’ve never had to study for school, which has resulted in me not knowing how to do it... I feel like this is going to be a handicap at some point.
Same. I find learning so frustrating because, for most things, I never had to try to be good at them, so now I expect things just to be easy.
@@elainajoseph6738 I'm so glad other people have this problem
In school, I was a prodigy. I paid so much attention to my teachers that I never actually studied till I got into engineering. In uni I came across this problem you are talking about, and god it was hard. I skipped classes because I had the freedom to do so, and shit came right after, because I had no idea of what discipline and being organised was. It took me two whole years to get on track with all of this.
All of us are the famous "underachievers". It's a shame, really
Same here.

That’s true but maybe the reason you didn’t need it is because you didn’t do what you wanted to. You learned some piano but forgot because you didn’t play for months.

I forget passwords because my brain only remembers the hand motion and not the numbers
Tysm ❤
Realest thing I've ever heard.
Thank you for this!!
i'm glad i read this thank you
Agreed because I'm mostly goal-oriented in drawing.
Search some stuff online, one step at a time so you won't be overwhelmed :))
Have a good day!

So basically I need to tackle my Insomnia and social anxiety to learn better,
great...
Few things to remember:
Find mantra songs.
@@Magiczilla Thanks for the advice and the song. What a gem
Nemo_Omen this comment should be a video on its own
Learning can also get you out of this insomnia and social anxiety !

Push yourself beyond what you think your limits are you'll be greatly surprised by the outcomes.

the taking breaks thing is VERY important.
You've reached your limit, and you literally can NOT go over it
0:50 well i just learned something new. WHAT? it activates pain? thats kinda hilarious in a dark way.
Edit - metaphor.
Torturing people... by forcing them to read new books.
no pain no gain
Force them to learn Finnish or something. That could be a new type of torture.
*Duolingo owl has entered the chat room*
What i've learned:-
1. First and foremost just start doing ( our brain finds ways to trick us not to start sth we've thinking for a while)
2. Repetition is the key to remember what we've learned.
Sleep, exercise and social engagement also plays crucial role
3. Focused mode and diffused mode both are important to learning
4. Whenever i get stuck in sth that is quite hard or boring or abstract try to figure out the major key ideas and then fill in the details
5.We have to practice "ourselves"
