- When I came back to my project, I was full of passion. Excited to start over fresh. To turn a new leaf!! And then I immediately returned to the shadows to work in solitude once again. It's been over a year since my last video, so here's an update on what I've been doing.
Howdy! And welcome to the 2nd indie game devlog for Zoe and the Cursed Dreamer: Reborn. ZatCD is a 2D Pixel Art Sandbox RPG made with the Godot Engine where you'll explore an immersive open world, meet lovable characters, and build a base to stash your precious cheese.

Howdy, everyone! Hope the year has been kind to you as well. :) The next videos should dive deeper into the mechanics I've added to the game. What are y'all most excited to learn about?

Hope you succeed games looks sick dude.
Thank you!
Nice to see you. Looks great!
@@ExploreImagineDefineCreate Thank you!
I can tell this will be awesome on the steam deck
Your game has so much potential, I am so glad to see you back! :D
Thank you! That means a lot to me. :)
Hey there, I have loved your Godot tutorials and seeing your progress. You have great energy in your content and really glad to see your return.
Thank you!
I've never been a fan of Devs leaning on procedural level generation, but the lost fey woods makes so much sense for that kind of thing
Absolutely. I was trying to think of ways to get that feeling across. I thought about changing the map as you explore it, and still might, lol.
I might surprise you with the procgen though. I'm persistent and have just enough perfectionism for it to be both productive and extremely useful. I think I could make some really good stuff with procgen. I wouldn't call it leaning. I fully expect to spend more time developing procgen than I would manually building the maps. I would just have more fun doing it.
i love the pixel art style of this, super cute
Take my money
No mine
I'm in love with the art-style, i've been waiting for this update for a long time and i'm not diappointed it looks great, keep it up.
Thank you! Glad to hear that people are liking the updated art. Makes my art-style feel validated, lol. :)
It looks so great! Your efforts are paying off!
It looks great. My 6 year old loves Zelda and we would defo play this, but only if child friendly.
I wouldn't say it's child friendly, sorry. :) The cute aesthetic is meant to be in contrast to the darker undertones of the story and world building. It has some characteristics of psychological horror.
waitt hes still working on the gameeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!! cant wait for this to come out.
I started binging your videos a week ago. Looking at your workflow and covering logic has been tremendous help with developing my own game. I'm glad that you're back, hope to see more! :)
I'm glad they helped! Getting an insight into other people's workflow is a really good productivity hack, lol. You take care. :)
I WAS LEARNING GAME DEVELOPEMNT ONLY FOR DOING LIKE UR GAME WWWWWWWWW MY DREAM GAME FR
Cheese AND weapon crafting?? You had me at cheese
In-depth cheese crafting at that too, lol. Might even be on of the most in-depth mechanics in the game. xD
I'm so glad you're back :) I thought you had left since you hadn't posted for a while. The art is great! Also, you've inspired me to start developing games myself.
Thank you! Yeah, I think a lot of people did, lol. Which is why I'm glad to finally get this video out and show off my work, lol. Glad to hear you've started making your own games. Good luck with that. :D
@@GameEndeavorThanks so much for your return. You were one of the people who convinced me to try godot and I'm glad I did, never really liked unity/unreal. Thanks for your return and I look forward to see how the game progresses.
Seeing you do so much in Godot warms my heart and makes me excited to get started on my own journey to taking a year off being online and working on a passion project.
This game's visuals and gameplay look awesome already!
@@SirZweebel Thank you!
Really awesome project man. Best of luck.
I'm so happy to see you're still working on the project. I look forward to see what you do next.
Game looks amazing you should be very proud of the work you've done so far! The art especially is incredible! As a fellow game dev I know how much work goes into the slightest thing so this is a lot of time and passion! Probably a lot to ask but if this game was multiplayer or even coop it would make it 10x better for me so I can play with my partner/friends!
I doubt I'll be able to do online multiplayer with it, because that's really complex to do, which would probably bog down this project. However I am considering local multiplayer / Steam multiplayer. :)
The graphics overhaul did so much to freshen this project up, it looks so much more vibrant and appealing now.
Yeah, I've been on an art kick lately, lol. Thank you. :)
So SO excited for when this game is done, even if it's far off. Love your work and looking forward to it!
Thank you! The patience is really appreciated, lol.
I'm SO EXCITED TO SEE YOU BACK
Thank you! Let's hope I stay back this time, lol.
well, i don't want you to feel pressured to make this sort of content. I just take it as it comes, i've always loved your videos and updates. But if the stress of that is WHY you may not take the time to make a video, don't.@@GameEndeavor
Only found you recently due to the combat AI video. Love your energy, your passion, and most definitely your magnificient beard!
Look forward to more updates of the game. It looks great and I really enjoy that you are putting a lot of focus on the roleplaying aspect of it :D
Thank you so much! Yeah, immersion / roleplaying is my favorite thing about these kinds of games, so that's where my main focus is. I've always wanted to play a game that looked like LttP but played like an Elder Scrolls game, long before I'd heard of Elder Scrolls. :)
This is kind of crazy, I rewatched some of your old videos yesterday and thought about how you werw once again one of thosw game dev youtubers who just disappeared.
Welp good to have you back :)
lol, yeah. UA-cam takes a lot of effort, so it's no wonder that we sometimes disappear. xD I'm glad to be back. :)
I was literally just rewatching your devlog series yesterday :D I am so happy you’re back!!
Thank you! I'm glad to be back. :)
Art is looking so nice now! Super excited to see more of what you’ve been doing. :)
Thank you!
hOly CHEESE YOU'RE BAAAAAAACK!!!! AND THE BEARD TOO LET'S GO
I cannot wait for this demo, this is no joke one of my most anticipated games, and I'm glad you're taking your time with it and enjoying the process. Seeing you use procgen not as a simple way of getting the game done faster, but to turn something you didn't like doing in something you actually enjoy, and seeing you actually going out of your way to learn how to do it well is really reassuring and exciting.
This project has heart and your videos make me excited (and have good humor too!), I too want to enjoy this journey :)
Thank you, Ludos! The beard, less go! lol.
Oh yeah about procgen. In my opinion, procgen should take just as long if not longer than designing the levels by hand. I genuinely want to see if I can create levels that feel handcrafted using procgen, lol. Thank you, Ludos. :)
Your game looks awesome! It seem that has much of potential:)
@@Baqalex08 Thank you!
Welcome back! Your videos are very motivating for my own game dev journey, so always glad when a new one drops, even after a longer while.
Hello again ! Hope we'll be hearing from you more often ! :)
About the procedural generation of dungeons, will dungeons will be generated every time we enter it ? Or every time we create a new game ?
The first one seem to be opening a door to a "rogue like experience" that could be cool but the cursor between working on a boring procedural dungeon and switching your game to a rogue like seem to be a really difficult (and therefore interesting) !
And the second one could boost replayability (idk if it is that important for a cozy RPG) or just takes the room of a fully fleshed handcrafted dungeon (and it is a bit frustrating as a player)
I'm sorry if my English is bad sometimes, it is not my first language ;)
Have a nice day y'all !
I'm still thinking about this. Using procgen is just something I'm thinking about, I haven't decided much about it yet. At the moment I'm thinking about taking a Skyrim approach to it. Maybe it resets if you don't enter it in like 3 days or something. I don't think it'll give a roguelike experience though, that's more of a gameplay thing I think. For example Stardew Valley has procgen, but doesn't feel like a roguelike.
I was thinking of your game again havent seen it your videos for a year or so happy you are still at it.
Thank you. :) Yeah, I may not be the most consistent UA-camr, but I work on the game nearly every day, lol.
@@GameEndeavor that's ok I'm not the best at keeping track of things. If you ever just want someone to ramble your ideas and obstacles I'm not the brightest, but I think it's neat to see your ideas come to life.
this game looks phenomenal, ive watched all the devlogs and cant wait for another. proud of you big bro!
Thank you! I'm wrapping up a devlog now, it should be out within the next couple days. :)
I think I may have said this like a year or 2 ago, but I STILL appreciate how passionate you are
Of all the things that can be said, this one inspires me the most. So thank you! And say it as much as you like, lol. :)
LETS GO IM SO HAPPY TO SEE THIS VIDEO! amazing job cant wait to try it!
Thank you! The new demo still has a lot of work todo, but hopefully it shouldn't be too much longer. :D
This genuinely looks fun. I'm excited for what the future holds for this game!
The coin pickup sound is all the way in the right channel, (wearing headphones) I think I know what having tinnitus feels like :) Great progress, the game looks amazing!
Hey game endeavour! Just want to let ya know that your videos are the reason I started game dev and yt and I love to see that your still working developing Zoe the cursed dreamer. ❤
Thank you, bud! It's a bit surreal when I hear that I inspire people like that, lol. I'm glad to hear you started your gamdev journey. Good luck with it, it can be a lot of fun. :)
no worries man
Excited to see more on this. You're great at showcasing what you're working on.
Glad you're not dead 😁, excited for the next devlog!
I just recently started watching your old Devlog's, and I'm glad you're back!
Thank you!
this game looks SO GOOD
I first found your videos after you'd been away for a while and was sad there wouldn't be any more
I really enjoy the way you present things, and I'm glad to see you still going 😊
Yeah, I'm awful at being consistent on UA-cam, sorry. xD Going to try to do better this coming year though. Glad you like it. :)
@@GameEndeavor life happens friendo, look after yourself, and I appreciate you doing what you can 😊
Larian is lucky you didn't release your game the same year as BG3.
Looks amazing, you can tell there is much love and effort put into every part of it. Well done.
lol, I appreciate that. I love BG3, and BG2 was one of my favorite games as a kid. BG3 is espeically going to influence this game a lot. I love a lot of the character building stuff they did.
@@GameEndeavor Yeah BG2 I would say is my favorite game ever. I even wanted to become a game dev because of it but the ideas haven't left the paper yet.
I'm very proud when I see someone who is actually doing it and perseveres, so props to you again, keep doing it, I can tell the game is going to be awesome.
@@mauberni Thank you so much. :)
Great news! Glad you are back! Cant wait for more.
Howdy, ansimuz! Glad to be back, thank you. :)
Looks good. Before -> world was a bit empty, now looks like a cozy world. Good job.
This video dropping was a great surprise. Please do not crawl back in the shadows GE. There's been a lot of progress, this looks amazing, I like the idea of changing your character's look on the fly.
Oh that shouldn't happen. :) I want to try taking content creation seriously. You won't be able to change your looks on the fly though. I haven't made the character creation UI yet, so I just did that to show the character customization.
I often thought about you and where you had gone, and hoped you were just busy with something. Glad to see I was right. :)
lol, thanks Artindi. :)
Hey man, this game looks so stunning that it would be sad to never have played it. Wishing you all the strength you need to succeed!
When I look at your game, the thing I get the most excited about is exploration. If you made a large world full of fun things to find in every corner, I think I would love your game
Yeah, exploration is my favorite thing about games. It's not an large world though. There's only so much I can do as a solo developer, and my strength is in programming, so that's what I want to lean on most. I tend to prefer smaller worlds that are more dense with content.
It's not too small though. As of writing this, there are two villages and a small city with a keep planned. The area around those, a nightmare realm, and a subterranean overworld with a vibrant fantasy underground cave vibe. Plus the procgen dungeons. So should be plenty to explore. :)
@@GameEndeavor It would be really awesome to refine those areas, release as Early Access, then add more areas as content as you develop. Your game seems to have a lot of core features already that could just be expanded on or iterated on. I would hate for you to spend 10 years making an "everything game", when a really awesome game is doable in a shorter time frame
@@Liberaven It's not an everything game. Those are bad from a design perspective, because if you cater to everyone, you cater to no one. It's an RPG sandbox. Think Skyrim / Elder Scrolls. All I'm doing is making a story driven RPG with side mechanics like blacksmithing, enchanting, and cheese crafting. My deal is that I'm putting extra attention in those mechanics because I'm this weird person that plays RPGs for their side mechanics. I've beaten Skyrim once, yet it's one of my most played games. I'm doing a playthrough right now that focuses almost exclusively on being a thief, with minimal combat. So for example, instead of just blacksmithing, you can take on commissions to craft items with specific requirements for a client. It's such a small detail, and easy to implement. But for someone doing a blacksmithing run, it gives them extra gameplay hooks. These side mechanics are also in the background. This is from my perspective as the weird guy that does side mechanics. But I expect most people to play the game for the story driven RPG. The extra stuff is in the background for those enticed.
I don't like early access. 1) I think it stunts the potential of a game, and 2) this is more of a hobby and a passion project. I really don't want the pressure of having to finish the project in a timely manner. I'd rather work on this quietly for now, periodically updating people on the progress. Taking little detours at my leisure to work on side projects, etc. I'm in no rush to finish this game, sorry. :) It won't take me 10 years. I suspect 2-3 more years. But I'm cool with that, because I'm having fun. I'm not like other developers, in a rush to finish something. I treat this as a hobby to savor.
Looks great!!!! Congrats. P.D: The dungeon looks a little dark. Could be fun to introduce some torches or magical lights fixed in the dungeon or ones that the character can carry himself.
Thank you. :) Yeah, minor spoilers for the demo if you haven't played it, but you get teleported into the caves unexpectedly. So you'll go through it initially without any light source. You have to illuminate the mushrooms to light your way out. Later on you'll be able to get a torch which will light up areas you couldn't previously explore. :)
I've still got to tweak the light levels though. I also think they're a little dark, but at the same time I really like when darkness is done well in games. Dragon's Dogma does this the best of any game I've played, which is one of the reasons why it's one of my favorite games, lol. So it's something I'll iterate over time until I find something that makes me happy.
Necromancy is always my favorite thing to play. Hopefully it's a little more fun than it typically is... not many games focus on it at all.
Necromancy is one of my favorite magical concepts. I will be focusing a lot on it quite a bit. :) I tend to play more control / utility magic, but there's going to be some of that in the necromancy.
Duuuude i misses your ZATCD Devlogs!. Seeing the thumbnail and the title got me hyped up and tapped the button as fast as possible.
I really loved watching your dev logs but I also know it takes a lot of work to do that. Thanks for giving us updates.
I appreciate the understanding more than you know, lol. Thanks for watching the videos. :)
I really like a game progress from day one and then now. You work really hard and It’s a lot of potential in your games! Can’t wait the day your games is released 🤩
glad to see you are active, i've started to learn how to code by developing games last month and i'm already pretty much lacking motivation, seing you enjoying it is a great help, thanks.
Good luck to you, I hope you find the motivation. :) Gamedev has brought me a lot of joy.
This is so cool! Came here from a three year old video, and I have to say, the art has improved considerably, it's very nice and cozy feeling.
Thank you! Yeah, been trying to polish it up lately. I'm pretty happy with it. :)

So glad to see you're back now!
lol, well I'm glad you remembered me in the end. xD Thanks. :)
Immaculate presentation and art style, good luck with your project and your channel :)
Thank you. :)
I missed the days where I would get lost in some random cave in ragnarok online and just grind my face off. I could totally see myself doing it all over again with a controller in hand with the look and feel of your beautiful game. 😍🤤🤤🤤
I love your art style, I love magic systems, and I love dungeons. The "wilds" between towns and dungeons, or shall I say routes in pokemon are also a favorite though. I will definitely be playing this whenever possible! I fell in love ever since your video on your beautiful lighting
Thank you! Yeah, I loved the routes in between pokemon dungeons. That's a really good reference that I didn't actually think about. I'm going to consider them when working on my world design. :)

I remember asking you about character customization and races and you said no I think it’s so cool to bring that back
That must've been a super long time ago. I've been planning to do character customization for a long time now. Even had a livestream back at the end of 2020 where I drew some customizable features. :) Those were actually pretty funny.
