The 2017 Hisense Modern Dehumidifier. Remember This?

  • So some of you may remember the video I made about the 2010 Kenmore dehumidifier that had went bad, and I had mentioned this one in passing that was its replacement.
Well since then, there have been some "updates" on it! And let's just say that it follows the (lack of) quality of many modern appliances. Sometimes it just makes you laugh.

My grandmother had a Montgomery ward dehumidifier that lasted 45 years and she bought a brand new Frigidaire dehumidifier that already has a rotting coil

Yep, I've seen 2 dehumidifiers fail in the same fashion. My Mom's 2013 GE and my Grandmother's 2012 LG. Both fail around the same time. (Around June 2018.) Found on Craigslist a vintage 1980's Whirlpool for my mom and a 1990's Edison for my grandmother. Both run great. However, the Edison needed a new humidistat. Both have a continuous drain into the sump pump. Can't ask for anything more!

My grandma has a vintage, USA-made dehumidifier that is like your's. The only difference is that it is labeled Whirlpool and it is black, not wood colored. She says that it does not work well. I discovered that the coils just needed to be cleaned! I cleaned them and now it works like new. She keeps buying new dehumidifiers, thinking that they are better. Her GE dehumidifier from 2014 died in 2017. I will tell her to start using it instead of wasting her money on a throw-away one.

The 1st two (same model as yours) I brought home from Lowes did not work at all. The 3rd replacement had the pump fail at 6 months and the icing problem at 1 year. No more Nosense products for me!

The vintage units are more trustworthy all the way around. No fire hazards, no extremely warm air blowing out and I think they they are quieter after the obvious start up sound. I can’t believe how the ice was even forming on the outside. Is there a defrost sensor on this?My vintage dehumidifiers always start and I didn’t pay much for them. I have a 2017 Garrison 35 pint on my main floor that so far seems to be holding up but has gotten a little louder over the last summer. I’m only using it because I like the timer feature for cooking, showering etc. But once it goes I’ll replace it with a vintage as well and just throw a timer on the plug.

Thank you. I canceled the order. Do you hear something about trotec's dehumidifier quality? Its only option left in my region.

I just picked one up for free today at a yard sale. They said it would work for 30 minutes and turn off? I know you cant use an extension cord as the compressor will not run, so I assume they had it plugged into a ext. cord vs. direct to an outlet? I have it on now in the basement and going to check on it soon to see if this is working or going to my scrap heap?

Having the same problem although I have a different brand. It was just 1.5 years old smh. Is there any way to fix it or I have to buy a new one (I bought this one $300) :(:(

86 degrees is the warm air exiting this type of dehumidifier, okay. I have no flipping idea what type of dehumidifier to get for one room that is under 300 sq ft. I do not not not want to add ANY heat to this room. I HATE heat! I added a window AC to bring the temperature down to below 68F. Now, I need a dehumidifier that will control humidity just under 50% or lower. I hate heat (any temperatures above 68F). I hate humidity that inches towards 60%+

I have 3 that I run different areas in my basement, they are all about 2.5-3 years old, we bought them shortly after we moved to this house 4 years ago. One stopped collecting water about 3 weeks ago with a E9 error it looks like.

If you’re looking for a bit more quality and perhaps longevity you should’ve gotten the Friedrich that’s what I own. Believe it or not for dehumidifiers Frigidaire is very highly rated. The rest not so much. Great review/comparison!

Looks like it is missing the sensor on back?

I have the same one and the pump won't automatically empty the bucket on its own anymore. I've had it a little over a year now. I noticed the blinking light at the pump button and if I hit the button twice to turn the auto pump off then back on, it will then pump the water out. Anyone recommend a good/reliable dehumidifier with the auto pump function? Thanks in advance!

Mine did the same thing! But they made me cut off the cord for warrentee work1! Mine was only 3 month old and ran very little!
