------------------------------------------------------
We keep dehumidifiers going in our basement and both shops. This allows us to store cars, furniture, wood, or anything else we want in a safe environment. We have been replacing Home Depot Frigidaire models every 14 to 16 months. At this point, we moved up and so far this has been the quietest and most efficient dehumidifier we have owned. - Навчання та стиль
I've been using a dehumidifier from 1974 and I still works
I believe they build them deliberately to fail now. I have seen older dehumidifiers still running from the 80s also.... all the new Chinese ones today seem to go out within 2-3 years. And they use R410a refrigerant which basically makes them unserviceable in the U.S.
I know this video has been up for 2 years, but now is the perfect time. Is it still working? or has it gone by the wayside like the HD ones. (I keep going through one every year almost lately.)
Bought a 3 year warrantee for $35 on a Frigidaire 12 years ago and have replaced 3 since then and have not had to pay anything out of pocket. They just ask you to send in a picture of the serial number and a cut power cord. I bought it from Best Buy and Frigidaire makes arrangements with them to supply a new one. Not the most efficient method but for $35 dollars and $215 for the unit I have had 12 years worth of service.
Incredibly wasteful though.
@@jasonk19xx17 Is it? Looks like most are only lasting 3-5yrs anyways and $250 for 12yrs is saving a ton too.
Have been doing the same for about 15 years. They die within 1 to 2 years or so and then it's replaced for free. It's the only extended warranty I ever buy at the check-out and worth every penny.
@@beeros6496 I'm not referring to your money as a waste, I'm referring to these cheap-ass appliances that go to a landfill after three years.
@@jasonk19xx17 OH ok. I see what you mean now. :) Yeah...imagine everyone seeing this video and doing the same. That would equal to tons of waste.
I have a Heier dehumidifier in my basement running constantly for the last 15 years.... she's a real Beast
Craig, what model?
@billgringo4673 really 15 years... I've been in this house since 2008 and it's ran CONSTANTLY I've never turned it off...

@@boosted2.4_sky does it still dehumidify anything though? Because freeon doesn't last forever man lmao.
I have a dirt basement with 70% humidity at 70-degrees F. I have had excellent results with Frigidaire 70 pint dehumidifiers. It will bring the humidity down to 45-50%. I use a constant drain hose. I usually get about 6 years from them. As you probably know, they changed the spec on dehumidifiers back in 2019 and now units that were rated at 70 pints are rated at 50 and units that were 50 are now 35. My unit went bad this summer and I was looking at a commercial unit. I almost bought an Alorair but then found a used Frigidaire for $100 so I'm good again for a few years. The one thing that surprised me about commercial units is most aren't rated to last any longer than residential units. 5-6 years seems to be the life expectancy. Everyone I talk to also says to never buy a unit with a built-in pump. I'll be interested in how yours works long term as the price is about the same as the Alorair I looked at. The weird thing with the commercial units is they always rate the pints for saturation temperature. Like the one you got is 138 pints but that is at 90-degrees and 90% humidity. Down at 70-degrees where my basement temp is that unit is only around 65 pints.
I forgot to mention. Frigidaire stopped making the good 70-pint units like you and I have. While those units were rated as one of the best units available, their newer units get horrible reviews. It is very difficult these days to find a decent residential dehumidifier. 70-pint units are rare as most are now 50. Most are no name junk that won't last long at all and still cost close to $300. So $600-700 for a commercial unit is actually not bad.
Isn't a dirt basement a root cellar?
@@eosjoe565 You have better luck than I. My Frigidaire units might last 14 months. Once I had one break in warranty and the next one made it 14 months. Lol
@@orijimi Not around here it isn't. ;-) It's an old house and we've had a dirt basement for 50+ years. It's not the greatest but it is what it is. A 70-pint dehumidifier keeps everything under control.
How have things gone with the dehumidifier since making this video? I ask because I’m thinking about getting a unit to help protect all my tools I’m in NC and the humidity is always high.
I really like your video and information.. I have been looking for an extra unit, I liked the reviews. The problem is I tried to use the link and it does not work. Do you suggest another unit in its place? Thanks
i was sick of the noise of my dehumidifier and the heat it produces, space it takes etc.
I installed a 12000btu mini split a/c in my basement and run it on dehumidify mode. whisper quiet, water drains itself outside, heat stays outside. and my basement is freakin cold, it drops it to 17 degrees celcius.
I wonder the efficiency of that. Probably pretty good.
Have you ever figured out what the efficiency is versus a dehumidifier?
Do they have a dehumidify only mode or do you have to run the air conditioning to do that?
@@jeffa847 it's like leaving your A/C on low setting all the time.
I have a Kenmore that I purchased new about eleven years ago and it is still running. No issues at all.
The old ones seem to last longer than anything new.
I'm looking for a good metal construction dehumidifier for one-bedroom one-bath apt. Any suggestions?
I have gone thru several HD dehumidifiers as well. A year and a few months they fail. My question is does this unit automatically shut off at the appropriate humity level you set?
What does it mean when you get the blinking 20 RH & It shuts down?
Looks like a great choice for most people who actually have to run a dehumidifer for several months per year. I have been running a black and decker BDT70PWT with a pump almost non-stop for 3 years and havent had any major issues yet.
Once it dies will likely pursue something like the unit in this video.
Where did you find a Black and Decker? I have never seen one.
@@WorkshopAddict Was on sale via Amazon back in 2018. 70 pint with a pump for $215 with free shipping, couldn't pass it up.
@@WorkshopAddictHow is that machine doing now.
Where did you buy it.
Does this unit allow a person to use a regular pump and install it inside the base of the unit where the water tank sits.
@CD-fo2el still running as new today. It is never turned off and runs pretty much 24/7 in the summer. I am sure you could wire up a pump. I run a gravity feed off the side.
@@WorkshopAddict thank you for answering. is that model still available and if so where did you buy it?
The real savings comes when you don’t have to buy a new dehumidifier every year.
I use a mobile AC unit to cool down 2 different rooms, moving it once a day. Can’t get a box store unit to last more than 1 year. Extremely annoying to have to not only replace a unit each year, but to have to pay to get rid of the old one.
I used a old 5k BTU air conditioner as a dehumidifier for years
doesn't last a year? What kind of barbarian are you with your appliances? lmao. I have a cheap amazon dehumidifers for like 4 years now. Had a sanidry sedona in the basement that cost me $1500 I had to get replaced under warranty 3 times lmao Sure it uses less electricity. But won't be saving me any money for like 5 years, and I doubt it will last that long.
What does it cost to run this during a summer month in MI?
I have a luco commercial dehumidifier that I have had for two or three years it works great
Where did you buy it?
What's the model#
@@rondail5675 unfortunately, now it is freezing up it is no longer dehumidifying
I clicked on the link above, but it seems like it is no longer available. I'm very much interested in this, but it looks like it will be rather difficult to buy. Also, how is the one you are using holding up?
I don't understand these comments that say they have a normal big box type dehumidifier, and they've been working for years. That's why I'm watching this video, to hopefully find one that lasts. I've had to get a new dehumidifier every 2 years, and lately, every 1 year for like the past 10 years. Luckily they are within warranty usually. I've tried Danby, Pelonis, Keystone, probably something else I'm forgetting. My Frigidaire's lasted the longest (and was the most expensive). It was just out of warranty, but the fine folks at Frigidaire still hooked me up with a new one. Well, that one went out, then they sent me a check for replacement. So luckily I haven't been out a lot, but I just want something that lasts. Gonna have to try something commercial I guess.
what happens to them? I have a kesnos one I've been using for 4 years that still works good. I had a eurgreen one that stopped dehumidifying on me after 2 years but I only used it a couple months out of the year. The kesnos I use all year round maybe that helps, no idea. I also have a $1500 sanidry sedona in my basement I have had to replace 3 times within the 5 year warranty. So i'm over commercial dehumidifiers, the thing is overkill for my basement anyways. Sure it uses less electricity and doesn't run nearly as often. But it will take me 5 years to save my money back on it so whats the point? Commercial dehumidifers are good if you actually get water in y our basement on the regular. otherwise I don't think they are.
@@cooloutac Great question, and I have no idea what happens to them. The last one I had, since I was compensated for it and told I could just toss it (by proper means with the city), I took halfway apart. Everything was rusted away in it. I assume this is the main issue. I would usually let them gravity drain out of a clear hose, and the hose always had rusty looking water tracks after a while.
Like you, I ended up buying a unit probably well over my needs, an Aprilaire. 5 year warranty as well and I've had it probably about a year now. Currently no issues at all, I like it a lot, and definitely recommend them. Aluminum coils, so hopefully they will last a while. Only time will tell though.
Are there basements in Florida?
Thanks for the info, could you do a long term review of the car lift. I’m getting ready to order the same 9k xl was which I believe yours is. I plan on lifting a diesel excursion/mega cab. This lift should do the job. Pros and cons other than what you may have already discussed.
I have 2 of them, both 9K XL or XW. For some reason I feel like mine is longer and wider than normal and I still wish it was wider. You put a 3/4 ton truck on it and there is only 2 inches on each side of the tire. My raptor was too wide but would fit. I will see what I can do to go over it. I am not up on the spec, but I use it daily.
I’m actually looking at the 9K XW spoke to Bendpak and they recommended this one base on the 3500 mega cab and excursion both diesels. I’d like to see your big Ford on both these to show the difference. I’m kid of a visual person and it would greatly help with my decision. Could you still do a long term review also with pros and cons since owning these lifts. Thanks
@@dandorris8531 my F450 will not fit. I can show you it does not fit.... I can put my reg cab long box F250 on it and show how close that is. Let me see what I can do. I have a back log a mile long.
WorkshopAddict, are you still happy with the 'SeedMax ECO-H70' ?
the house we bought in 2015 came with a LG pretty standard looking dehumidifier. Still running 6 years later. And I suspect the unit is even older... don't really see any dates on it.
That is amazing.
@@WorkshopAddict LG LD301EL is the model if anyone's curious. which looks like it came out in 2013 or so.
is there a basement in florida?
I have a Kesnos p235d from amazon cost $213 running for 3 years in my 1800ft basement. Runs almost all day at 55% in huymid months but does the job, super quiet. I also have a sanidry sedona from a basement company in another basement that cost $1500 that I have to replace the filter on every 6 months to a year.. I also had to replace the whole unit 3 times within the 5 year warranty. Honestly I find it to be overkill and way too loud. Yes it runs less often and uses less electricity. But am I really saving any money when you factor in the cost and maintenance? not at all. IMO Commercial dehumidifiers are for ducts or drying after water damage. If you don't get alot of water in your basement all the time I wouldn't bother.
Where is that unit made? I have spent a ton of money on those lowes unit to only have them fail in 1 to 2 years.
I had to buy the 165 pint steel seedmax dehumidifier i'm waitng on it to ship to i can put it right in the middle of my basement/
Lol, this is to ironic. I just got off home depots site a second ago looking for another dehumidifier due to one I just bought at another place not preforming as advertised. I clicked on my favorite UA-cam channels and this was the first video I saw. You nailed it on spending the money up front for a better one. Thanks for the info in this video it help me and I will now upgrade to a higher quality dehumidifier.
Good info. You might consider a mini split. Not only can it dehumidify, it could heat and cool if necessary. They are extremely efficient and move lots of air too… Just so you know, there are no basements in Florida. :)
I believe some have crawl spaces. I think that's why those commercial crawl space dehumidifiers are so popular.
You can see how much I know about homes in Florida. I know my shop in Florida would have major dehumidifiers!
Can you tell me the quality of a mini-split I'm looking for a metal, stainless dehumidifier. Also what do you mean by no basements in Florida? Do I missed something?
@rogerf3622
Minisplits need to be cleaned of mold at least 2x/year if it’s in a humid environment unless you buy an extra dehumidifier for the room to keep the moisture down. Plus it’s recirculating the inside air, not taking in fresh outside air, so when you get mold buildup inside the units it’s pumping out the mold spores and taking it back in essentially concentrating the mold in the inside air making for poor inside air quality. It’s not the air filter that’s the problem it’s the mold buildup inside the unit. They may have dehumidifying capabilities but they build up mold regardless
Agree completely when it comes to dehumidifiers you get what you pay for I have one in HELL (crawlspace) forgot the brand it's commercial from Amaz has a built in reseviour with pump it's yellow am not going into hell to look for its name but it just works and has made hell a tolerable place. Am on the wet coast of Canada so it has been well used over the last three years and was about $1,400 when I bought it
Great link
Dang-it!! Was hoping to watch that puppy work! 😋
I purchased a dehumidifier that is too large for my basement. It gets very hot. Should I replace the unit with a unit for a smaller area? Or should I just use the timer to time the unit?
Use the low setting or yeah use a timer
My 50-pint Toshiba (yep, Home Depot) iced up a week ago.
Bought 27 July 2020. I also bought the 2-year Asurion "replacement plan".
Now for the fun of testing Asurion, whoever they are.
I do not understand why these machines run the cooling coils cold enough to freeze, unless it's a scam to sell more units. Could that be?
Normally that only happens when a sensor fails.
My Toshiba is not working correctly now after 1 year.
Okay I'm from Michigan too and your link is unavailable right now and mine took a poop on me. Which would you recommend next?
This dehumidifier is still going strong. I have also had a few Tosot brand ones going the same time. Either buy cheap or get a long warranty. These seems to crap out fast or last a while.
@@WorkshopAddict okay bet thank you
I’ll try it. Price not bad considering $1000 to $3000 for industrial. Moving my wood shop into a 750 sq foot cinder block shop with No insulation (fixing that soon). 90% humidity at 50 degrees. Do you think this can keep up with weeks of rain and clouds?
My guy says yes, but there are so many factors. My shop is well over 3500 sq feet and insulated with 3 garage doors that open and close daily. We can keep our place at 45% without issue through the rains and we have a wash bay that is always being used daily. But if you have a lot of outside air infiltration, it might not work.
How has this been holding up? I can't seem to find one to purchase anymore
Still running 24/7 in our shop.
You mentioned a basement in Florida. I recently learned there are no basements in Florida.
Someone else just told me that. I can see why, but I had no clue.
they are very rare, but there are basements in Florida. nothing near the coast but they do exist.
The problem is it burns water more the the tank can store... if you plump it in with a float switch
The video is for a seedmax but the link is to a different brand?
Same machine, just changed brands over time.
@@WorkshopAddict thanks for the reply. Makes sense.
Do not buy an Aprilaire dehumidifier, expensive to purchase and you have the same problems as a box store dehumidifier just when the warranty expires …. Good luck
I HATE when somebody does a video and then can't be bothered to answer questions!!!!!! Does this dehumidifier still work as you say it did when the video was made? Your Amazon link also shows a $399 unit with the same sounding features. Any idea what the differences are?
What a way to ask a question. I might venture to say I hate the way you asked this. I have 2 of these units and both are still working. One needs the controller board to be removed and reinsert about every 2 years to keep working. I know the original company stopped making them and my link is sent to another brand that is supposedly the same unit, just updated. I never purchased one of those because I have not needed to yet.
@@WorkshopAddict The question about whether it was still working has been hanging below for a while now. People need to know this is worth double the average price.
@@kodak_jack IF you look, I have answered that question about every 3 months. I have 1800 videos out. I do my best.
500 hours continuous isnt enough of a sample time IMHO.... Ill pass at $450-$500+ for a 65L
This one fails too. 500.00 Loss for the Eco t30
Can we please get an update on the reliability? This is a huge problem and frigidaire/whirlpool/ whomever sells these with whatever brand they slap on it needs sued
I think I have posted an update here weekly. I have 2 of these and they are still running. One of them needs to be unplugged and plugged back in every 3 months. It will show an error on the screen. So far so good.
@@WorkshopAddict awesome, thanks!!
They don’t sell this model anymore? Your link is no good
Seedmax seem to go in a different direction with a large ducted model. I updated the link to the same model made by a different brand name.
you were doing it wrong. you should have bought from costco. you can then return the broken one, which costco in turn, returns to the manufacturer and get their money back.
