  • A day of waterfall sight-seeing and fungi hunting in the Waratah region, NW Tasmania.
Philosopher Falls is named after James "Philosopher" Smith who is credited with discovering tin at Waratah which led to the beginning of Tasmania's mining boom. It is located a few kilometers west of Waratah. The track is well maintained, clearly marked and takes around 30-45 minutes each way. Despite a steep section towards the end, it's generally a fairly easy walk which takes you through some spectacular rain forest before a reaching a staircase which descends down to a viewing platform. The falls are quite high although due to the surrounding dense forest only the upper portion of the falls is seen from the platform.

Thanks. Yeah they had signs up at the start of the track for people to keep an eye out. Sad for her family.
