4:20 you could always put a layer of oil in the bottom. It won't kill them, but they won't have the traction to jump up to the vacuum hose opening either.
Clever. One suggestion that might improve it slightly: consider putting the bucket/vacuum on the left side (next to the closed bait tube, without changing the pipe setup) so that when the noise starts the loud motor scares them towards the vacuum nozzle opening. Im not sure if the nozzle opening or motor is louder near the trap, but it might help direct them towards it more reliably.
Dang Shawn always going the extra mile for us, your videos are getting better. Thank you for your efforts and hope you get even bigger on this platform
Awesome trap! Really smart design. I have 1 suggestion though: you should position the shopvac/bucket combo on the opposite side, the noise would then "push" them toward the vacuum tube
I'm not particularly bothered about killing things, but if you're going to then drowning them is pretty harsh! I mean, at least kill them quickly or better yet just trap and release a long way away.
Rather than traps that kill mice, it looks like shawn went for burning the memory of being sucked into a loud mechanical monster deep into the psyche of the mice. No kill, just crippling traumatization.
Khali :3 Not really because it was a clear bucket, which requires a different plastic compound from your run of the mill white or colored buckets. It possibly more of an acrylic and anything in acrylic is not cheap.
You could make a simple springdoor at the end of the hose to prevent the mice from climbing back out which would make it work as a live trap. Vacuum will pull that door open, spring will close it once vacuum goes off.
I like watching the Mouse Buffet trail cams as much as watching the traps. I live in the suburbs and have physical disabilities so I can't go hiking, so I don't get to see a lot of wildlife.

I don’t think he does that because where he typically sets these up has been in higher traffic areas for humans. It wouldn’t matter in this case, other than maybe the release of chemicals when the mice go into distress. Though, according to his videos, that doesn’t seem to matter either. The rats, on the hand. They’ll push weaker rats into suspected traps to test them and if they find its suspicious, will poop and pee all over it to warn other rats away. To suck up rats you'd need something pretty powerful, like a blower from a dust collector. Depending on which model you get, you may also need to use a 240v outlet which could complicate things. Still doable though.
Mouse trap Monday on a Thursday? Eh, works for me. Reminds me of the old method of capturing prairie dogs years ago. Hunters would suck 'em up and sell them as pets.
Shawn this design is genuinely brilliant. It could easily be developed into some kind of permanent pest management system that could be installed in homes and businesses.
