Years ago I saw a documentary about native peoples who live on islands and have problems with mice and rats. They dig pits and bait them, but make the bait unreachable. After serval mice /rats are trapped in the pit and begin to starve, they start eating each other. The claim made is that the mice /rats become cannibalistic and when they are down to a few mice / rats, they lower down rope for them to climb out. These released mice /rats retain the cannibalistic nature and begin hunting and eating other mice /rats preferring the young ones and by doing so they work to help keep down the population. They also believed that these cannibalistic ones taught the behavior to their offspring as well. Supposedly with a year the island would see drops of up to 90% in the mice /rat populations.

Lots of those were as big as rats... I've never heard of mice getting that big... they look gigantic. It should work for rats just fine... Honestly I think most of them were rats and he just called them mice.
Have you considered a duplicate design, only smaller? The big one is perfect for the barn or a rural setting, but for residential use, a smaller design would be more suitable. This trap is genius, and thank you for all you have done over the years, testing every kind of mouse trap imaginable.
Congratulations on the new trap! That is well designed! So glad to see youe succeess.... You're going to make a tone of money off that! I'll be buyin some of these when I get back into farming. Thanks for all your hard work and research.... It means a lot more than you know to some of us!
Any ideas of the best way to make this a humane kill trap? I am thinking filling the barrel with water/CO2/Argon. Putting it on a Minecraft lava bucket seems unfeasible.
I made something like this using the roll mouse trap as a base. In my design I just attached 3 computer fans evenly separated so when they step on them to reach the food they fall. Nice to see there's a trap like that because I wasn't sure if adding the fans were counterproductive. It's good enough to trap house rats that appear every few months.
@@UpcomingJedi they added the front cover to stop them coming from and holding onto the sides. Watch it back. They need to remove them inner corners, those corners gave that last mouse the time to find the exit
Wow! Your invention was what I wanted to have! I didn't want a glue pad or cage where it would only catch one mouse but then scared the other mice away, seeing their friend being trapped. I will order this from you! Thanks for this invention!
The only flaw in the design that made the last mouse escape is the cut out of the bucket. There are 4 corners inside of the trap, that the acrylic shield covers. Cut them out
Have you considered a bigger rat version? I don't have too much problems with mice, but I do get rats that come after my bird feeders at night. I have setup live catch traps, but I had video of a rat fast enough to set off the trap and run out before the door shut, so I stopped even bothering to set it.
Another spot that works both on the flip and your spin trap to put bait is the underside of the cover - top center, and then at 45 degrees (half-way) on either side. This way they will reach for it and cause the platform to move, but because it's out of reach it doesn't get eaten. Just make sure you disassemble these before storing, as they still work for longer than is stomachable ( and what a horrible way to go ). I'll spare the details.
This mouse trap is probably effective in a barn. If you live in an urban area, don't even think about using this thing. City mice will not even touch that thing when there are infinite sources of easier, more available food around. Sealing off holes is the #1 most effective way at stopping city mice. They will go find easier food in lieu of trying to break into a human dwelling.
I’ve purchased one of your mouse traps, primarily to support you, your family and the great work you do. Your expertise on this topic is outstanding and I really enjoy watching your videos. I know you’ve created a great product - so one is being shipped to Australia!

Supposedly with a year the island would see drops of up to 90% in the mice /rat populations.
that's morally questionable but i would do that anyway
"The rat king" I belived its called.
Okay, but then you're stuck on an island of psychotic bloodthirsty rats
@@joshuaewalker the rats eat each other, not you lol. When the population is low enough, adding natural predators like snakes, they have periods of almost no rats, mice, until more come in from boats. I guess if the island is nice you could deal with allot
@@superresistant0 rats and mice already eat each other when they are near starvation, or when one is sick, and they routinely eat each other's babies. They are the world's clean up crew along with birds
Congratulations on your invention, Shawn!
Not a new invention, just an old idea taken from an old rat trap book
@@Mankind-JourneyNo ideas are 100% original lol....

Good on you Shawn for having a moral compass and saying no to the paid adds.I am going to buy one and subscribe just because of your integrity and values my friend. All the best from Melbourne Australia
Shawn Woods had at least 200 mouse in his house. Not clear how many still left but seems like he is catching more and more every day.
Uhm aCthUallY it's a barn
LOL By now he must have cleaned quite a few neighborhoods...
As soon as a rat trap version is available, I will buy it.
Lots of those were as big as rats... I've never heard of mice getting that big... they look gigantic. It should work for rats just fine...
Honestly I think most of them were rats and he just called them mice.
Use one that employs castrating rings.
He caught a weasel.
ever been to new york? rats are like cat sized... @@jacobnash9755
@@unclejoe7958that was in the earlier prototype without the shield
Have you considered a duplicate design, only smaller? The big one is perfect for the barn or a rural setting, but for residential use, a smaller design would be more suitable. This trap is genius, and thank you for all you have done over the years, testing every kind of mouse trap imaginable.
I hope you become a multi-millionaire from this invention! Absolutely brilliant!
I can't wait to order this product you invented the best I've ever seen. All restaurants need to invest in this.
Congratulations on the new trap! That is well designed! So glad to see youe succeess.... You're going to make a tone of money off that! I'll be buyin some of these when I get back into farming. Thanks for all your hard work and research.... It means a lot more than you know to some of us!
I bought two Rinni traps when you recommended them, I’m going to buy two of yours as well. I love supporting people like you guys
Tak!
Any ideas of the best way to make this a humane kill trap? I am thinking filling the barrel with water/CO2/Argon. Putting it on a Minecraft lava bucket seems unfeasible.
This is pretty cool.
Step 1: Catch the mice
Step 2: Release the mice
Step 3: Wait for them to come back into your home
Step 4: Repeat step 1
or just fill it with water
I made something like this using the roll mouse trap as a base. In my design I just attached 3 computer fans evenly separated so when they step on them to reach the food they fall. Nice to see there's a trap like that because I wasn't sure if adding the fans were counterproductive. It's good enough to trap house rats that appear every few months.
The one that got away had the yellow corners. Why not leave the paddles rectangular and eliminate the yellow triangle in each corner?
They would be able to hold onto the side like the one that go away.
@@UpcomingJedi they added the front cover to stop them coming from and holding onto the sides. Watch it back. They need to remove them inner corners, those corners gave that last mouse the time to find the exit
Thanks, it looks great. Will it work for rats?
I ordered one, thanks. I can't wait to try it. It looks awesome!
Your mouse trap is perfect until you catch a bunch of circus mice that know how to build a mouse pyramid.
How do we make it so that the mice die? Put water in the bucket?
Yes
Hello! We just found your channel and bought a dizzy dunker in the same day! I love your passion and dedication to mouse trap engineering!
--- is there a rat version? --- I want a rat version
Some of those mice were rats. Long tail is the key
CONGRATULATIONS! I wish you great personal, professional, and financial success for your invention.
Wow! Your invention was what I wanted to have! I didn't want a glue pad or cage where it would only catch one mouse but then scared the other mice away, seeing their friend being trapped.
I will order this from you! Thanks for this invention!
Where do you buy the clear bucket online?
The only flaw in the design that made the last mouse escape is the cut out of the bucket. There are 4 corners inside of the trap, that the acrylic shield covers. Cut them out
Probably shaped that way to maintain structural stability and durability of the platform
@beikehanmu ummm no that wouldn't make a difference
I won't call a 1% flaw is a flaw tho. Unless it become less effective in future scenarios
@@creambeast8178 a flaw is a flaw. It didn't work 100% if a mouse got out
The one that got away was Hairy Houdini though.
Hey Shawn, I just bought a Dizzy Dunker from your Amazon link. Have a good holiday! I will follow up with results soon!
Thought Shawn would have learned to watermark his videos by now. 😅 Chinese copies in 3 … 2 …
Have you considered a bigger rat version? I don't have too much problems with mice, but I do get rats that come after my bird feeders at night. I have setup live catch traps, but I had video of a rat fast enough to set off the trap and run out before the door shut, so I stopped even bothering to set it.
Nice job Shawn. Just ordered one from your manufacturer. Was pleasantly surprised that they don't charge for shipping !
I bought the 'spinning log' trap on your recommendation and it worked beautifully. I am definitely going to try this one. Thank you.
Sorry to tell you the truth - go do a UA-cam search “bucket trap fail” to see ALL bucket 🪣 traps Fail, they are too smart won’t clim the ramp😅🤥🙃
Does it help with rats
Depends
Probably not. Rats are much bigger for this.
Any links on where to buy a clear bucket, I have already ordered the dizzy dunker and would like to have a clear bucket like you have in your videos.
Maybe you could design something like this on a larger scale to catch rats??
You got my support! Make one for rats please!!!
You did it! You built a better mousetrap! 🏆 Congratulations! and thank you 🙂👍
Another spot that works both on the flip and your spin trap to put bait is the underside of the cover - top center, and then at 45 degrees (half-way) on either side. This way they will reach for it and cause the platform to move, but because it's out of reach it doesn't get eaten.
Just make sure you disassemble these before storing, as they still work for longer than is stomachable ( and what a horrible way to go ). I'll spare the details.
That's what I'm thinking. Avoids out of balance issues with the paddle spindle too.
Where to get the clear bucket to make it easier to check the trap?
I knew this day would come. Congrats Shawn!
Does it work on rats?
Just purchased using your link! Can’t wait to use this. Thanks!
Just bought mine. Great job.
Interested to know if this trap is effective on rats? Or will you be releasing a different version for them?
A rat trap version would be awesome.
Just received one this morning , looking forward to using it tonight in the garage. Glad it's made in the U.S.A. !
Shawn, that’s a big statement! Let’s see it! I hope it works as stated. You deserve it!
You should patent it to protect yourself from knockoffs

Wow that's incredible. I really hope it is really rewarding for you.😊
I found an understanding manager at a Home Depot to help order it for me. I don't do internet ordering at all, I'm old, and stuck in my ways. That said, I'm looking forward to receiving my 2 Dizzy Dunkers!
Hi Shawn,
Love your design. I have one question though. I am honestly of no intend to set the mice free again, because they just keep multiplying and invading. So with all your knowledge, do you have any input on what the cleanest and most humane way is to kill the mice you catch in your bucket?
