I cannot agree. This is a very stately version and rightly somber given that it is being sung at the Queen Mother's funeral. It perfectly fits the occasion. The version sung at the wedding of Charles and Diana was more upbeat and celebratory. I personally object to Britten's version and find it typically middle class liberal. The National Anthem should be sung loud and proud. The BBCs use of that dreadful whispering version is, in my opinion disgusting and shows contempt for being British. I accept the second verse is sung loud and proud but I hate the treatment of the first verse which sounds more like a guilty confession rather than an exhortation
