When cathedrals were built i think they took the sounds of singing and instruments into consideration because it definitely makes it sound so much more fuller.

Im not Christian but it could be because it is inspired and dedicated to something that actually matters. Something which is in a sense more "real" than things like money, worldly success, flings, dating, drugs etc. Perhaps you know what i mean.
There's no fancy instruments or clever lyrics or deep bass or dancing here, just a bunch of middle aged people stood robot upright chanting away. and yet it still hits the mark. Why?

Thank God for the Anglican Tradition. They have preserved the holiness, the sacreness and the reverence deserved by our beloved Saviour. Above all the grandeur and splendour pours forth from Heaven. The organ overwhelms in heavenly majesty. As for the choir it's angelic.

I mean the list of classic Christmas carols isn't that big, so most of the Christmas carols are "one of the greatest" if you actually know them. And a carol by definition is sacred. If it's not sacred, it's not a carol, it's a Christmas song, or worse, a holiday song. But yes, for me this is the quintessential carol. I don't my favorite necessarily, but it's the exemplar somehow, perfect on every way.
Gotta say, some of the lesser known stuff is just bangin as well. I didn't know that medieval Christmas music was an available genre until last year, and some of that is really good stuff, and a couple of my favorites are from the shape note tradition, Star In The East is one, Babe of Bethlehem is another. Sherburne and Milford. And I think it's a newer composition in the old style, but the song Glory Shone Around in the Shenandoah Harmony (and the Cooper Sacred Harp) goes hard, literally.

Wonderful! I am roman catholic, but what a liturgy! I attended, for the first time in my life, to a Service in Westminster Abbey, last month of December and I had the joy and the honour to sing with the people. I will never forget this! Thank you!

MrCimiciotto I'm not surprised that you enjoyed it so. Besides the fact that Westminster Abbey is awesome, it's also the seat of High Church Anglicanism, which is about as Catholic as Anglicans can get.

It's not that high, relatively moderate high Anglican, their liturgy is quite modern catholic, but rendering by royal luxury. There are still some high Anglican parishes in London having English Missal mass, which is very similar to Tridentine mass, but in English.
The Anglican Mass looks so much like the Catholic Mass. I feel like we are back in communion with one another 😍

It is the Catholic lyrics being used in the Hymn. Both Anglicans and Catholics have a lot of similarities, but they also have a good number of differences. But I do consider them as Authentic Christian Churches unlike the money making scam so called Mega Churches run by pastors who are only in it for money.
The big difference between the two faiths is lose the Pope and add women clergy. Some high Anglican churches are more RC than some main stream RC around here. My wife is a former RC and now is an Anglican Priest, a Canon of our Cathedral.

We honour the British and the Free Polish heroes. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them. Thank you.
My father was one of the paratrooper who made it to the bridge on. 17th September 1944. He was helped by the brave Dutch people who hid him & help him back across the Rhine.

The the last few verses were absolutely magnificent. I got goosebumps when the choir began to descant and the organ hit the low notes making the entire building rumble. Awesome.

That organ improvisation half way through (I assume it was) was one of the most dramatic, virtuosic and emotional movements I've ever heard. I can only dream of being able to improvise like that. Wow.
It was planned to be very dramatic as Dean John Hall arrived at the High Altar and incensed the altar, the over dramatic playing was to signify Christmas had well and truly started, also it was to show off the High Church element of the Church of England to those watching on TV.
The improvisation was performed by Daniel Cook, at that time sub organist of Westminster Abbey. Daniel Cook is now Master of the Choristers and Organist of Durham Cathedral.

The organ interlude was absolutely magnificent! It was powerful, majestic, brilliant, transcending, electrifying; it rocketed through my soul and body! I play the church organ, and it simply doesn't get better than this! It is inspiring and uplifting!

My father was a Lutheran. My mother was an Anglican. I am a retired Lutheran pastor; but I will always have a particular love for the Anglicans.

I absolutely love pipe organ music. something about it that reaches into your soul. This organ sounds absolutely beautiful, the old organs like this always produce the most beautiful, and powerful sounds!

Even though this is an Anglican service, it is amazing and beautiful and makes me proud to be a Catholic.
Episcopal / Anglican is like Catholic without the Vatican. A lot of similar traditions carried over. This looks and sounds incredibly similar to a Catholic mass.

When I think of Christmas I think of the older versions and churches. It brings you into a reality and a peace with God.
This brings back memories when my mother used to take me to mass especially at Christmas.. I thought this a Catholic celebration, but was corrected by my wife, that this is an Anglican service.
