You can use any reel for bfs but its not going to be fun..you need to put alot of line into regular spool because you are using much thinner line for bfs..if you put something on the spool like masking tape the spool will become heavy and harder to cast light lure..the only simple solution for this is buy a after market shallow spool for your reel..and buy a bfs rod to really enjoy and learn how to bfs fishing
my only baitcaster is a 30 year old Korean Silstar Starlite II. I think it is specced for no thinner than 0.35mmm line. Can still do a decent cast around 3g.... (about a 1inch grub)
Let's say you have 150 size reel, gear ratio 7.1:1 converted to bfs spec mode (using 20-30 meter s PE0. 6 line). Your reel's IPT will be decrease as if you spooling a reel with 5:1 gear ratio. I can imagine that after a few minutes of throwing, you will feel burning in your arms. That's why we need shalow spool to keep the IPT of our reel not makes arms feel burning
Not really. Most people won't spend an entire day fishing. If they do, they can buy a BFS reel or use a lighter reel. Kastking is selling a very light reel which has nothing to do with BFS. But it can be used as a BFS reel. Please watch my other videos in which I have used regular baitcasting reels. Besides, I made this video for those who want to experiment with BFS fishing. I want people to know that they don't have to start with a BFS reel. Find a baitcasting reels that they have forgotten about and try it first to see they will like BFS fishing. For the people who will BFS fish all the time, buying a BFS will be a great move.
Greetings from Hungary. The video is very good. I am now starting to make friends with these reels. Which line should I start with. The videos are useful and I have subscribed.
Hello, I also have a Shimano Cardiff 100. I would like to know what you did to the spool to make it for BFS. I also have an older Shimano Calcutta 51B. The spool is thinner on this reel. I'd like to make this to BFS also. You mentioned using braid for backing. What pound test braid for backing and how much to spool and what pound flouro, mono or braid to use and how many yards. I am interested for you to make another video on how you made the Cardiff spool for BFS.

skip the zepher, there are cheaper chinese reels that blow the zepher out of the water. the zepher is not worth 80 dollars, it's worth about 30 at most. learned that the hard way.
I know that it's not a necessity to have BFS fishing gears, but for the love the sport fishing we just want to have the experience of the genre that's all. yes; you don't have get it and you can get away of what you already have. But we only lived once; wouldn't you agree that we should try to new thing or enjoy everything we find interest us, so it worth to lived for in life
Bonjour et merci pour cette vidéo ..Voilà un sujet très intéressant .. Pouvez vous s'il vous plait aborder le remplacement des roulements ?? Cordialement , Alain depuis la France .
Thank you for the comment! I don't think it is necessary to replace the bearings on the BFS reels because I often find that overkill. A lighter spool is more important!
Yes. Please watch my other videos about how to cast the BFS rod and reel. I believe it is more important to learn how to cast right then worry about the speed of the reel. I have been casting many different rods and reels for years just to find out what we can do with them. I started out as a fly fisherman. Being a fly caster helped me understand the dynamics of casting in all rods, except those real heavy ones. For the same reason, I am also good at casting a centerpin reel.
I have just come here and after perusing this video looked at some of your bfs labeled. In some i see you are using a kastking kestrel which is a bfs reel so not just any non bfs reel. Bfs I would consider need to cast max 1/16 down to 1/32, 1/64 etc and don't see having too much success with a non bfs system.
For those who are thinking about BFS fishing, they can start using non-BFS reels. When someone has become good with casting light law, the person can start using BFS reel to cast father. Thanks for your comment.
Yeah i just fill about half of my spool with braided line then use a smaller diameter leader and a “whipy” rod to throw lighter baits this way. Save money on those high end reels.
Your definition of BFS is not technically correct. BFS is simply using a baitcaster setup to fish finesse techniques for Bass in heavily pressured waters. Or BFS is simply a Shimano marketing term. Or both. But it's not the same as ultralight baitcaster fishing. We just think that in the west. And a dedicated BFS shallow spool reel paired with the correct rod will cast more controlled and longer then a regular baitcaster using very light lures. But you are correct that you do not need a modern BFS reel for proper BFS fishing. Since it's more focused on techniques over weight.
Dr. Zhang. I'm not a BFS angler but I'm already a big fan having watched a number of your skipping videos. 张博加油!
Thank you so much!
I'm subscribing because even though I have no idea if what you are saying is true, i think you are a super nice guy and I hope your channel grows.

Good comment. Thanks.
The rod is the most important part. Gotta have a limp noodle to sling those tiny lures
You are right!
agree with you and it is all about the light spool and shallow will be a alot better and thanks for sharing :)
Thanks for watching!
Very informative, I enjoy all of your videos. Thank you.
You are most welcome!
BFS is not necessary, but it gives us a reason to buy new and exciting toys!!
Exactly right!

Yes you can! Watch my other videos to learn how to cast right. The casting style and stroke is the key.

Use 6 pound line. Good luck!

You can put the braided line on the spool. Make IT tight. Use 30 pound cheap one from eBay. Fill it to st last 80 percent. Good luck!
@@johncaster4296 , could I use 65lb braid as backing instead of 30lbs?
@joepicasso69 yes you can.
Hello again, I would also like to ask if I should use braided monofilament or fluorocarbon as the main line?
10 pound braided line!

Bfs fishing is so much fun. KastKing makes a really nice and inexpensive reel for this.
Yes!

Well, they have better bfs reels now.
