My great grandfather was a major in the German Army in WW1. He talked about it. The one I remember the most. He said he gave orders "do NOT fire on Christmas day" to his men. As he said, it was the only orders he ever gave. That he didn't regret.
He saved many lives those times. Respect!
And so did my great grandfather the day they were all friends christmas eve he was one of the lucky ones
What was your grandfathers name?
Germans like your grandfather are the ones I feel bad for. They were given zero choice, unlike the ss or the regular Nazis in ww2 that literally chose it. What a lot of people don’t realize is that a good amount of the force was just normal troops following orders like any soldier is supposed to, they didn’t have the same ideology that Germany in that time was known for in the leadership
We are we are we are all friends
Quite possibly the most powerful Christmas song ever made. A moment of peace in a war that never ends.
One philosopher said that humans will outgrow war as a means to settle problems. Maybe this song will inspire humans to respect the Christmas Truce as a way to live our lives everyday.
Sadly never heard on radio over here when they do the whole Christmas song thing.
@@merryrose6788 The war resulted in most kings of Europe ultimatly loosing their powers and making Europe embrace democracy.
@@merryrose6788 .... ye I doubt that'll happen in the next million years but then again someone said it'd take another thousand years for powered flight 5-6 days before the wright brothers firstflight
@@PeoplecallmeLucifer Nice thought about the Wright Brothers proving the commenter wrong about powered flight:) And though hope is not a plan, it does give some hope:)
After the Truce, a lot of soldiers refused to fight each other because they made friends and learned they were fighting their brothers and cousins. Not an inhuman foe that they had been told.
RIP to all fallen servicemen and women. Lest We Forget ❤
Like no bullets fly after many years they met each others
Sadly, in the British trenches, many of those men you talk about were executed for cowardice. As an ex-squadie I fully understand why they didn't want to fight. R.I.P. the true heroes.
After this the high command ordered soldiers who refused to re-engage the enemy to be shot. This forced the men to continue the slaughtering of their brothers. Russia is doing the same thing right now in Ukraine.
Thats why it sadly was forbidden from the german OHL in the last two years of the war :/ but this story gives me hope that there still can be a spark of humanity in war
They where fighting for another mans cause. ua-cam.com/video/vBVtVR7Nme0/v-deo.html
I appreciate the inclusion! Ever since I discovered Sabaton, I've never looked back. I get wiser in history with every song I experience from them. It's been one wild ride so far!
I actually discovered Sabaton with you, on your channel. Thank you for that.
Discovered you from Sabaton. No regrets, I'm not sure how your channel is so small. You're one of the best out there, my friend. Keep up the amazing work.
If you're enjoying Sabaton this much, I highly recommend Roads To Moscow by Al Stewart, and really that whole album (Past Present Future). But Roads To Moscow is a great place to start.
I was a soldier, US Army, 101st Airborne.
I spent Christmas and my 26th Birthday (22nd December) away from home in Afghanistan in 2018.
This song strikes a particular chord in my heart. I celebrated Christmas, not with relatives, my wife or daughter, or in a home safe and sound. Like many of my brothers and sisters, we celebrated together, a family bound in war, forged by service.
Away from home and safety, we held each other, laughed, joked, sang some carols and had a tree where we gave each other presents and hoped to return home soon after already being deployed for 6 months. We threw snowballs at each other and we were kids again... If even for a moment. And as quickly as it came, it passed and it was back to our war.
This song makes me weep. Not only for my Christmas, but so many Christmases passed in history where young men spent it in foxholes in the mud, the guts and the blood in foreign lands, fighting a war that, for many, we didn't understand but knew had to be done, and had to be won. And through that suffering, in these moments of joy, we found a little bit of peace in a war that seemed to never end for us...
The song still brings me to tears to this day. I cry for the men and women who laid down their lives in the pointless, meaningless wars we fight, for those who were laid to rest but never remembered. It's the only song that makes me cry. No other song has ever brought me to tears but this one.
Respect from Argentina soldier!!
I wish you a merry Christmas for you and the yours from Argentina!!
I have to admit I've seen almost all of these, and I got just as emotional this time as these watching for the first time.
when the credits appear, and the voice of Floor starts up....damn I cannot contain myself and start crying, 'cause it's so intense!
I concur!
@@LFFerrari89 Totally agree, it did it to me again….
@@LFFerrari89 I needed a mop from crying.
there was a letter a british soldier wrote on dec 25th to his fiance, telling of this.
he told her that he is thankful for the princess anne's christmas-gift (the soldiers were gifted pipes) but utterly bedazzled by what's in it, being german tobacco gifted to him, as a christmas-present, by a german soldier. (i don't remember anymore what he gifted in return, but it was something equally valuable in the trenches.)
Folks say sabaton glorifies war or even the nazis. that's bull. stories like this and "no bullets fly" are a testament to humanity and we all should think about it from time to time.
i think the classic trade was german tobacco for british coffee and tea iirc
I appreciate being included in this. Such powerful song and message.
Having Floor at the end made this even more emotional. Her voice so mixed with the theme. Cinematography was stunning. Whoever in the band came up with this idea is genius, totally genius.
Could have been Hannes, Floors husband.. 🙂
@@NickJohnzon Of the video. I am sure Hannes added Floor to even make it better.
When Floor heard they wanted some kind of vocal chorus at the end, she volunteered. 😁
Floor is married to the drummer. It comes down to All soldiers are thrown into the meatgrinder, for some piss off politicians...
@@AngelesBustamanteM now I just want them to have her fully collab on a song or maybe a whole album. I mean, Floor and Joakim singing in the same song? I think the planet might not be able to handle it
Mate, you have set the bar very high already, both in music selection and editing. Still, you one-up yourself every single time. Thank you for these, man!
From one skull pfp to another - AGREED
A song that depicts humanity triumphs over war, country, race, color, creed, religion, and social status/class. The part that truly hits me is when then they begin to hear the artillery resume, when Par goes to the cross, and lastly the chorus at the very end. Tears for the fallen. Congratulations Sabaton. You’ve connected more people than you know.
Lest we forget.
1stSgt, USMC (Ret.) 1989-2013
8:28 The tear that slides from this woman's cheek sums up all the feeling put into this magnificent song. A tear of emotion can be the best testimony of something excellently well done
I've seen all of these reactions videos individually and noticed with a lot of them when Hannes climbs over the trench they either go very still, their eyes widen, hold their breath or a mix of those. The smiles, and the joy that they get when we see the soldiers playing Fußball in no-mans-land. Then when Hannes is thinking about the fighting, before the refrain of the chorus, you can see everyone starting to get very reflective over the horrors of the trenches just before that bitter-sweet gut punch of emotion of "We were all friends" no longer "We are all friends".
I do think that Floor's Aria at the end is the most important part of the viewing experience as it gives the viewer that time to be introspective on the power of peace and the horrors of war.
This little summary is perfect...🤍
How can you NOT cry watching this slice of pure love, dignity, respect and HUMANITY❓ Wonderful video. 💕🙏
Best video Sabaton has ever made. Pär did a wonderful job on this. The guys brought the Christmas Truce to life once again! What makes this video even better, the men and women who helped make it happen. Plus Floor Jansen at the end!!! Ugh!!! Good stuff! This tops any Christmas song for all of eternity (IMHO) lest we forget!
And you got a bunch of my friends on here too!!! I am one lucky individual!!! BEAUTIFUL job on this video!!!
This is the best reaction mashup I've ever seen. It's not 20 people all talking at the same time, you actually put considerable effort into this. Thank you.
Never gave Sabaton a thought until my son's friend had to come live with us. He loves them. Trying to find some Christmas music for my playlist this year he recommended this. Fell in love on the first note. Hard to find good original Christmas songs nowadays, that aren't comedic. Even though I didn't see action having been in the navy I feel a connection to this others may not. If EVER a song was written that truly captures the Christmas spirit this is it.
I was on their concert last year's August, and man...When they played this song, it was a truly magical experience. It didn't matter where people came from, on that night, it was a feeling of brotherhood unlike any. Actually cried during that song too.
This might actually be Sabaton’s greatest song. Not their most listened or most popular, but their best.
That’s one of the most amazing things about Sabaton. They’re able to get such emotion out of you, whether it be rage, sorrow, triumph, whatever emotion it may be, it’s there because these songs are about people. Actual people who went through true atrocities and hardships. Creates such amazing music.
Great edits as always man, truly love watching these videos.
When I first heard this song last year in November, I wept into my morning coffee. This is, without a single doubt, one of the most powerful and moving songs that I have ever heard!
my great grandfather was a portuguese volunteer that fought for france until portugal entered the war and sent a small force which he then got slotted into fought from 1914 to the very end blown up twice and from the conversations he had with my grandad and from my great grandfathers friends he was a hard bastard hit multiple times over the war and just refused to go home until it was done died at the age 73 sadly i was never able to meet him
I tear up every time I watch and listen to this beautiful piece of music. Its 100% historically correct. Im german and it definitely means very much to me. But you don't have to be. We are all brothers and sisters. If you shed a tear, surprise you're a beautiful human being. Love you all,Wishing you all a Early Very Merry 🎄.
My Great Uncle died in the battle of the Somme. This magical historical event is still tear jerking over a hundred years later. This song is a beautiful tribute to the fallen and everyone affected by war.
I can't explain why, I was never in war, literally can't enlist due to medical reasons, but this song, this song stirs something deep inside me that every time I listen to it, I am practically sobbing by the second chorus, I haven't even lost family in war thank god, but still, this song makes me cry every time
And the General Staffs from both sides worked hard to ensure that there would not be another Christmas Truce, as you can't kill those whom you are friendly with.
It wasn't just the general staff, it was also just how _ugly_ the war got after that first Christmas. Not that it was pretty before, but it got significantly worse. There was still hope that the war was going to end soon, and there wasn't gas used.
All gave some, some gave all. Lest we forget.
Sabaton always goes full out with their music. This is by far one of my favorites
What a way to bring in the season! Exceptional as always. Thank you.
Thanks for included My Channel in this incredible video! Superb editing and so cool to see so many reactors enjoy one of the Best Metal Bands ever. Just made the start to my holiday so much more full by hearing this song again!
This is the greatest reaction video I've ever seen.
So many beautiful people coming together for one of the most emotional songs I've heard.
If you are not in tears by the end of the video. You have no soul.
11/10
Sabaton makes me proud to be Swedish one of the greatest bands of all time imho
This Song gets everyone, everywere. It's not important who or where you are. Or where you come from. The message in this song is timeless. A masterpiece in my opinion.
I've seen this video numerous times as well and also the reactions and it's still hits the heart strong. To put music to something that was hard to believe happened over 100 yrs ago. Sabaton are are historic geniuses and having Floor at the end completed the cycle. Some people have argued that this is not a Christmas song I say make it what you want it to be. To all the reactors on this video, well done! Have a wonderful and safe and happy holiday. To all soldiers foreign and domestic past and present alive or in the Creators arms whoever that Creator is to you thank you🌹
I like how during the song, you edited it so no one said a word, just somber faces.
Lest we forget
It never fails that SABBATON makes me remember our past; our wars; our failures as nations; our humanity, despite the political powers that be ALL across the globe! WE MUST NEVER FORGET OUR VETRANS! No matter whom they died for!
If we could get this unity in the world, the world would be such a happier, blessed place.
You are a Legend!! Fantastic edit!! I can see the hours you spent on this. You never disappoint!!
Yeah if he was for hire, I’d hire him in a heartbeat to edit mine xD
Metal fans know their music and this is one of the most relevant Xmas songs ever. You have to feel sorry for those who have never heard it.
No matter how hard one has trouble showing emotions....or try to not cry sabaton did well on this video to make us cry without realizing. They are the best at making music the emotion they put into that we even feel the emotion
This is quite possibly one of Sabaton's best songs ever. Thank you for your service any and all past and present military service members.
Another absolute masterpiece of editing. I was not familiar with this band or song, but i got serious TSO vibes. The video was rough, emotionally. Very well done.
This is why I'm subscribed. That was absolutely phenomenal. So many great reactions, and I love the way the cuts followed the music, rather than just being random. I was hoping for a Floor section, and was rewarded, and all the summary reactions at the end were fantastic.
I didn't think you could top your Ghost Love Score video, but I was wrong. 👍🤘🤟
Great compilation! It once again proves that Sabaton is absolutely world class in creating epic songs and videos. I'm so proud to be Swedish.
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
is the name Joakim a common name in Sweden
@@bescotdude9121 Somewhat common. In my generation (born in the 70s) it's quite popular. Today about 50.000 in Sweden (out of 10 million) are named it. But I'm not the one in the band. 😉
@@jregns it is just that i am from the uk and was curious about how common of an name it was
@@bescotdude9121 Fun fact: Scrooge McDuck is named Joakim von Anka in Swedish comics.
For me, Christmas Truce is the only song that should be played before Thanksgiving.
Screw Mariah Carey -- I wish Sabaton would be played in US stores during the holiday season.
And bro, you did an amazing job! I thought GLS and Hallowed Be Thy Name were good...this was just as fire, bro. Damn fine job you did!
I concur!!! Screw Mariah!!!
Bro, if they did that people would be tearing up from the beauty of this song
I'm not crying, you are!
Thank you for including me! =) Love it!
listening to the credits is a great "come down" piece also to help transition from the emotional trauma sabaton put us in lol
Seriously, this is but a very few songs that gets me crying. It's an absolutely awesome song with a ton of meaning behind it
Absolutely floored. This is the first song and band you have done that I hadn't previously heard of. Made me a fan of the band and made me cry too. Keep up the excellent work Sir!!!!
Sabaton are an amazing band. The majority of their songs are about historical people and events that occur during times of battle and war. They have not shied away from even the heaviest and darkest subject matters that occurred.
Each song is done with care and respect.
It's like I always say, #Honor is born in the least-expected places. As a #veteran myself, I can relate to this sentiment. #War sucks!
So sad that so many people know nothing about history. At least Sabaton can teach a few.
I got flashbacks to the song "Christmas Eve" from the Savatage Album "Sarajevo". The beginning of the songs are so great. Sabaton has the edge because of their powerful video. Great Song and truly a Masterpiece.
i think this song really shows how u can share the epics and tragedies of history through song. u wanna smile at the fact that these rivals of war are celebrating Christmas together, yet at the same time u wanna cry, knowing that these men will be ordered to kill the very men they became friends with. im very happy Sabaton was able to tell these men's stories in such a beautiful and respectful way.
This is the song that must be on mandatory rotation all December. Louder every year. In places that don't want it. In high official places. Outside churches. Until everyone is singing it.
Who would start a war if they knew it would stop dead on December 25 and all those who didn't respect a truce were driven out of office & power & fancy war profiteer homes?
Yes! Great idea! Maybe if we also play Majestica's A Christmas Carol too. The message of Dickens' work is that we must live Christmas everyday. Everyday, Peace on Earth and Goodwill to All. That means no wars at all. A pleasant thought. Of course we can keep in mind that there will always be threats, someone getting to big for their britches. Laws are made for that. Blowing up each other and terrorizing kids, that's not the answer, and those not respecting the truce are as you aptly wrote: "driven out of power and fancy war profiteer homes."
I just recently discovered this song myself and am gonna share it with my father on Christmas when I go see him. It is hard to watch w/out just having all your emotions stirred up. It is hard to put to words the feeling you get, that knowing that we all share, that emotion this story invokes in us all, there just isn't a word. And yet I can see it in the eyes of every reactor. Great compilation!! Love the joke at the very end, that was perfect!
This is what I came for and it's truly amazing, it's kind of like so many people coming together from around the world.....much like the Christmas Truce itself.
Everytime I think about how lost this world can be I go back to this event and realize in the end we are all human and want to share joy no matter how different we see the world.
easily the best christmas song, and the most powerful one based on a historical event that only ever happened once in the entirety of ww1. its so good im listening to this in april.
I dont know if anyone here know this, but that really happened!! I live in ypres Belgium, and this happened a few kilometer from here at " ploegsteert" in 1914 in the first world war!!! The Christmas truce!!!
Honestly, this event was probably _the_ most powerful spontaneous single thing to ever occur in the history of our entire species. Sadly those in Command didn't see it that way, and the next day ordered the artillery to open fire or face a firing squad. The next year it was attempted again, but this time those in Command were ready for it and once again threatened to shoot anyone who tried. So it never had a repeat, though both sides the regular soldiers desperately wanted it. Goes to show war isn't fought between young men that truly hate each other. War is fought on _behalf_ of those few in power that hate each other, whilst they sit safe and sound far behind the front lines never getting their hands dirty and most all the way back in their own countries able to go to sleep in their own beds at night. This world would be a _very_ different place if those in power that want to start wars were forced to actually fight in them - even more so if _only_ they were forced to fight each other hand-to-hand to the death. I highly doubt many would start wars in the first place, if this were the case. They're far too soft and comfortable in their own lives to be willing to risk it personally.
Fantastic as always, Derek. Truly Master Class editing at just the right moments to an EPIC group and song.
It's the folks who put together great compilations that deserve a shout for their dedication!
This is excellently put together, delighted I discovered it, and fair fucks to you, 10/10.
1:55 The dog was like “Oh shit are y’all watching Sabaton?”
Thank you for making all these compilations, they bring great joy every time
Great job putting this all together! I've seen a lot of these reactions already but the editing was awesome. Thank you!
Seeing everyone's reaction in awe and admiring what Sabaton did. This song is so beautiful and honestly, I get emotional every time I hear this song. You did an amazing job with the editing sir!
Absolutely love this mash up of reactions. I was introduced to several of the channels shown here through this fantastic song
You can literally feel the emotion of these UA-camrs from listening to this. Epic and powerful, and kicks you in the feels at the same time. I think we can all agree it's a masterpiece 👌. Really well put together video. Let's hope the Christmas Tuce makes it onto radios next Christmas time.
I've seen most of these reactions, but all together....wow!! Thanks! 👍💖
You have the best reaction based collaboration videos I've seen yet on yt. ty for ya time and work on these. pls for us fans keeps slaying!
gracias por la recopilación de reacciones, thanks for the reactions, I think is a perfect song and I love it, greattings from Chile
Just now checking this out. I'm not usually listening to bands like this but this song has me intrigued.
Just wanted to say, fantastic editing, tying the reactions together was masterclass 👍
I love how most dudes teared/felt to this songs cuz they know...
This was a clever idea, and nicely done. I've watched a fair few of those reations myself so it was cool to see them and some new faces, as well.
This is great. Incredible editing, you did all these reactions and the song credit with this
Derek! Great song, great edit! You did it again! Keep it coming!
Happy Holidays to ALL!
Great compilation, this song always gets me emotional and teary eyed when listening. Nothing more satisfying knowing we as humans can join together in peace as temporary as it was
Wow! What a great video. And a couple of my favorite reactors I see in here- “lest we never forget”❤😔
I haven’t got into this video too long and I’m already blown away! Excellent!!
Great compilation and fantastic editing!! Hats off!! ❤
Great editing. ❤
After 3 years and after hundreds of views of this video, so many things changed in my life in this last 3 years and I m still here again listening the sound from the period when my life was way better...
So coincidental to find this video after showing the song to family. Excellent editing all the reactions together
FINALLY, the mashup to this masterpiece of a song!!
Hermosa edición, te pasaste viejo... Y con una de las mejores canciones navideñas jamás escritas... Felicitaciones
This was well made. Thank you for this. And advance Merry Christmas!
Wow! That was really good. I haven't heard that before. Great job man!!
The choice of Peace is as daunting as any battle, and requires more resolve, more strength, than any choice to attack. LEST. WE. FORGET.
This was the first time I’ve ever heard this song and omg I’m in tears
11:10 fantastic choice of quotes there to show that the reviewers really GOT IT. It's not just history of a century ago, it's the whole history since then.
Legit was just wondering Derek was going to upload another kick ass reaction comp, and here we are! Very excited!
Respect and honor to all soldiers that lost their lifes and future in the great war. They where promised that they would fight to end all wars but they dies for nothing… We won’t forget you! You will life in our memories and history and we will tell your story!
Thanks for the inclusion! Cool to see other reactors and their insights.
This was a fantastic compilation.
Very good Edit LOL, as a Sabaton Fiend I knew most of these reactors already lol. it is nice to see it all in one place
Man I remember this seen a movie clips from back then wow my father's in World War II and he showed me some stuff but this one besides the Civil War this one brutal
I was not expecting Sabaton. Great choice.
Fun fact: the christmas truce cross at the end is a real in a field in ploegsteert wood
*I can describe this song in ONE word: MASTERPIECE!*
