It is really powerful and the lyrics makes me cry every single time. The translation isn’t the best but you’ll get most of it. I think there is a version on UA-cam where someone has tried to make a more accurate translation.
Yes it was "Carol Of The Bells", but in a minor key. Love Floor Jansen's vocals in the ending credits, she is married to the drummer I believe. They sing about historical war events, but they don't take sides. They sing of valor and injustice. I recommend the animated story version of "The Night Witches". If history was taught like this, a lot more people would remember it. The way they say "The snow turns the ground white." to me sounds like they are saying "The snow turns burgund white.", maybe on purpose.
I'm pretty sure the carol of the bells motif is inverted in Christmas truce, ending on the low more sombre note as if to signal that the day after these men would be back to killing one another and this would go on for another 4 years rather than the bright an hopefully note the motif ends on in the actually carol of the bells. Its a really simple but wonderfully clever bit of composition that means the whole things still manages to both sound distinctively Christmassy (as carol of the bells is basically the global culturally accepted Xmas Leitmotif at this point) and hopeful whilst just subtly hinting at the horror that is to come. All achieved by just flipping some of the notes upside down
No mans land (20:10 ish) is a common reference to the part between the trenches. The part of land that is currently being fought over, and therefore belongs to nobody, no man.
Imagine the psychology of the soldier who first stood up and approached the other side. He was probably so fatigued by the fighting that he didn't care if he was killed but longed so much for a moment of peace he was willing to take that chance.

That may be the best description of Joakim’s voice I’ve ever heard. The dude is an ancient oak, both in his voice and physically. XD Sabaton would best be classified as Power Metal, a genre known for big, grandiose sounds often quite theatrical in nature and focused on story-telling.

Soldier of Heaven, Lady of the dark or No bullets fly, animated story. Lovely reaction, keep doing what you do!
I loved your reaction and analysis. Thanks. In response to your request, this song is both representative and, at the same time, not representative of Sabaton's music. Their themes are always focused on military history and they always showcase valor and humanity. They do a lot of research so their stories are historically accurate. They even have a separate You Tube channel discussing the historical background of their compositions. However, the symphonic element you noticed is usually not as prominent in Sabaton's music. It's often there but they are generally heavier and more focused on traditional metal instruments. I'm not enough of a musicologist to name the metal subgenre; others will probably do that.
@@alantidwell7889 Bassist Pär Sundström said in an interview: "I don't think Sabaton can only be categorized as power metal, as the two main attributes of power metal are high pitched vocals and fantasy lyrics and Sabaton have neither of those. We simply play our version of heavy metal-what heavy metal is to us.
You should react to Solider of Heaven from the same album. Sabaton is epic and brings light to events, battles and people we hardly ever heard of. They have some really hearbreaking songs mixxed with all the epic headbangers, all based on military history.
Sabaton Is a swedish power metal band, almost all their song is about historical battle, see No bullets Fly (animated video), Swedish Pagans (live with Tina Guon), Last Stand (live with orchestra) & En livstid I krig (live)
I saw Sabaton in concert for the first time this past Friday, and they legitimately are one of the best bands I've ever seen; and I've seen Rammstein. Definitely recommended to check them out when they're around you.
It is incomprehensible to me why one do not play a video to the end. There was no musical interruption to the credits. So one know that the song is not over. Just because credits are running then one decide to end the video.
People used to leave when the credits roll at a cinema (remember them?), so they could get to their way home quickly. Then along came a few choice cult movies with snippets revealed in the credits.
Sabaton does history - it's all true stories and they don't "pick sides" and show heroism, valor and mercy by good people in the worst of times. If I may suggest / request - try "No Bullets Fly" (it's 8:50 long - w/Yarnhub) - a true story about valor and mercy. Would you be up to do a reaction to that one?
Rosalie, you are awesome! …but cutting anything Floor is music listening Blaspheme. Never do that again! ;) Ya’know, you could do a full reaction just on Floor’s outro. We would All tune in :)
If you want to listen to more Sabaton, to see their range, I'd suggest "En livstid i kring" (live from Gothenburg) and also "Carolus Rex" (Swedish version is best).
Sabaton are one of the most amazing bands out there👍the accuracy they write their songs based on actual historical events is phenomenal 👌 one of the most amazing ones is "no bullets fly" it's truly awe-inspiring the story its paying homage to can honestly say I've never heard a bad song from them also have a check out of their guitarist Mr Tommy johannson on his UA-cam channel especially his numerous cover version of songs 👍have a fantastic one stay safe take care all the very best from Scotland to you 👊 👍

Sabaton is an English word with its origins in Provençal. It refers to an armoured boot consisting of solid heel and toe sections with a number of articulated steel strips - called 'lames' - which protect the wearer's feet in battle.
I think a great representation as to their music (and what type of Rock they are) is Sabaton. Personal recommendation, however, is En Livstid i Krig , filmed live at Gothenburg. Shows just how moving their music can be, if Winter Truce didn't show it enough already!
Great reaction and welcome to the Sabaton family! I hope to see you again with more Sabaton. You might want to try Soldier of Heaven or Bismarck. A live concert would also be great like Great War in Prague or 40 to1 in Poland.
Thank you for your reaction !! Each time I listen to one of their music I need time to "digest them" an d that's why after 3 year knowing them I only listened to no more than 10 songs ... And I sincerely reccommand them all !! - No bullet fly (animated story) - Bismarck - Night witches (animated story) - Smoking snakes - To hell and back (official video) - Primo Victoria - 40:1 - The final solution
The Credits are amazing with these videos, they even give credit to truckers and such, quite a massive production, and the song and video hits you in the feels over and over.
Your passion pull the listeners in. I was hooked anyway. Great reaction! A song that remind us what it means to be a human and a true friend, We need that message more then ever.
Saw a story on this...two 20 ish people met in a coffee shop in NY and got to talking. Turned out their relatives were in this war, and that they had exchanged photos with each other. The two that met in NY had each other's great grandparents photos in their wallets!!?
Great analysis. Sabatons always great, part history lesson, part metal and they often have very elaborate videos. If you want more from them try either the live version of "En livstid i krig" from Gothenburg (it's in swedish, but there are english subtitles that translate the lyrics) for a fantastic live version, or "To Hell and Back" or "Bismark" for a more "metal" sound. This has replaced Fairytale of New york as my favourite "Christmas Song" :).
Im sure someone already stated this but their drummer (The long blond haired guy who is first up the ladder) is the husband of Floor Jansen from Nightwish. Floor also sings the closing section.
Not much to add to Troy's comment and your analysis. Spot on. Perhaps that if you have watched the credits to the end you had noticed who sang at the then. She "blow your mind" when singing with Nightwish: Floor, Sabaton drummer Hannes wife. Besides, regarding that sign on the wall behind you (also your reaction to Homefree/Dire Straits: Brothers in Arms) and this song Carl Sagan's famous "Pale Blue Dot" text comes in my mind: "That's here, that's home, that's us .... a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam". Thanks a lot for taking this song and your empathic and indepth analysis.
When you described the song as a steak you have to take in smaller chunks, you were spot on; This is a dense piece of artistry with so many layers and nuances to it, and it has such a strong message as well. Loved the reaction, definitely sticking around for more :)
Thanks for your views. This song kind of helped me start belive again (Sabaton are s0o great) , and at the same time made my thoughts of "our leaders" became as before.

You should check Tommy Johansson, the guitarist in Sabaton. He have alot of video on UA-cam when he play and sing cover's. From Disney songs to Elton John and Queen.
You know what the saddest part about this was? The Christmas Truce was initiated by the soldiers on the ground, their high command on both sides didn't sanction it and when they found out they moved the soldiers around to other places along the front because they refused to fight their comrades on the other side. They also expressly forbid interacting with the enemy again because they didn't want anymore truces. If they hadn't expressly done everything in their power to prevent another Christmas Truce scenario, this war may have ended a lot sooner then it did. It just shows that most soldiers in war have no inherent desire to kill each other.
If you like this you need and realy cant miss Sabaton live in Gothenburg.. with song livstid i krig! A life time in war! Cant explain but its magic! Best regards from sweden

Hi Rosalie! I am late to seeing this reaction video. I was excited to see this was your first exposure to Sabaton, and you chose Christmas Truce, one of my favorite music videos...for many reasons. I am sure many here like me were looking forward to your first initial reaction to the quality of the video production, to the musical sound of the band, the unique and powerful voice of Joakim, the melodic guitar solo by Tommy, annnnd...for this particular video the surprise in the credits that Floor was singing the choral voices at the end. We as viewers are anticipating that look you will get as you begin recognizing that voice...then we wait...will she guess it before she sees the name? And then that long awaited moment! Like a beacon, your face lights up....of course! That's Floor from Nightwish! And all your viewers at home smile and laugh and cheer as you are now part of the Nightwish/Sabaton Sisterhood! ..... and then you skipped the credits...I literally laughed out loud! Because I knew in the hundreds of comments you were going to be ROASTED!! After reading many, it looks like they went easy on you, and have forgiven your trespass...lest we forget! Thank you, Rosalie for always keeping us on our toes! We love you!
Where do you get all the words from? I was stiff of all the war images, couldn't think of any words. But you had a very coherent waterfall of explanations of what we just saw. That's a great talent! I have to do it in small parts.....
Sabaton is currently the most successful power metal band. The Symphonic is an evolution, hence the similarities. The main theme of Sabaton is war. As you've seen, they're not just about heroic stories. Again and again they show the downsides or soldiers becoming heroes through "wrong" behavior like here. They also have a history channel, where a historian explains the background of their stories and band members talk about the process of making them. Christmas Truce - December 1914 - Sabaton History 107 [Official] The album was sent during the pandemic and Floor can often be heard in the background. The end credits of this video are also sung by her.

Randall, I believe they are generally put into the "power metal" category. Personally, I put them into the "good music" category.
They call themselves a heavy metal band, so i guess they are a heavy metal band.
I am speechless. Sabaton is one of the most epic Swedes that have ever existed, in my view.
I saw Sabaton in concert for the first time this past Friday, and they legitimately are one of the best bands I've ever seen; and I've seen Rammstein. Definitely recommended to check them out when they're around you.
Rammstein can't compete with Sabaton what comes to live performance. Sabaton has a lot more energy and the most important: contact in the audience.
@@ev-1832 You can't compare. As I said, there was no musical interruption. This makes the credits associated with the song.
In the end you can hear Floor Jansen singing. Her husband is the blond guy.
yes it is Carol of the bells, but played backwards (except for at the absolute end where it turns around)
The Yarnhub video is a great way to listen to the song. And don't skip the end!
Your soulfull spirit and wonderful sensivity beauty of reacting with feelings beyond, is overwhelming pure exstatic , and yes. I cry.....
the ending credits is floor singing..she is married to hannes the drummer of sabaton..the guy that got hit with the grenade in the beginning
The 11th Commandment: You shall not skip Floor Jansen´s aria at the end of Christmas Truce by Sabaton.
Rosalie, you are awesome! …but cutting anything Floor is music listening Blaspheme. Never do that again! ;)
Ya’know, you could do a full reaction just on Floor’s outro.
We would All tune in :)
gave me a good chuckle.. yes yes yes that is sooo true!
If you want to listen to more Sabaton, to see their range, I'd suggest "En livstid i kring" (live from Gothenburg) and also "Carolus Rex" (Swedish version is best).
Sabaton are one of the most amazing bands out there👍the accuracy they write their songs based on actual historical events is phenomenal 👌 one of the most amazing ones is "no bullets fly" it's truly awe-inspiring the story its paying homage to can honestly say I've never heard a bad song from them also have a check out of their guitarist Mr Tommy johannson on his UA-cam channel especially his numerous cover version of songs 👍have a fantastic one stay safe take care all the very best from Scotland to you 👊 👍
If Artist='Sabaton' then BasedOnHistoricalEvents=YES
I got to see them live when they came through several years ago in Texas. I had just gotten into them but clearly the crowd was there for them. The crowd sang along to all of their songs. What a show it was!
They stopped the battle for about 9 hrs. They sang, drank and played games them the battle resumed. Beautiful and sad. RIP to all fallen soldiers🌹
Well well well look who finally made it back I love this one this was powerful and the entire thing just grabbed from the begining and kept you till the end. I am sending so much love and all the positivity that I can for you and yours and this great community we have going here. as always you ride or die always here even if sometimes it has to be in spirit for a bit I watched them all and your killing it
thanks so much. welcome back :)
Dutch suggestions:
Epica - Consign to oblivion (Live at the Zenith)
Within Temptation - Ice Queen
Ayreon - The day that the world breaks down
The Gathering - Strange Machines
Focus - Hocus Pocus (Live 1973)
Absolute. Favorite. Christmas song. Ever.
You should react to Tommy Johansson The guy who played the guitarsolo He have his own youtubechannel with a lot of amacing cowers His voice is amacing and the range is cracy
He is an multiinstrumentalist and play all the instrument himself
Maybe The show must go on Queen or The power of love Celine Dion No it's not a joke 😏
Or Gary Moore cover.
And his band majestica
This lady is a singer...she needs to hear Tommy Johansson covering Josh Groban's You Raise Me Up (One Octave Challenge) ! A really fine performance by Tommy!
This was an event actually happening just because of 1 brave soldiers. He just crawled out of the trenches and this whole chain reaction happend.
I concur
Bah, I meant to suggest Bismark as representative of their more routine Rock songs. :D
- No bullet fly (animated story)
- Bismarck
- Night witches (animated story)
- Smoking snakes
- To hell and back (official video)
- Primo Victoria
- 40:1
- The final solution
thank you for the suggestion :)
This reaction ist on Point👍🏻
thank you
The Credits are amazing with these videos, they even give credit to truckers and such, quite a massive production, and the song and video hits you in the feels over and over.
This is one powerful song, in all possible ways. Thanks for a great and insightful reaction.
Happy to see this song kept you awake. Thanks for the reaction Rosalie. Greetings from the Netherlands.🇳🇱
Seconding En livstid i krig from Gothenburg.
Choir of 16000 people with undertone of "it could have been me".
Im sure someone already stated this but their drummer (The long blond haired guy who is first up the ladder) is the husband of Floor Jansen from Nightwish. Floor also sings the closing section.
Please watch Sabaton's other song called en livstid i krig, it's sang in Swedish language so please turn subtitles on!
Love this group and the historical telling songs, please check out Bismark.
#Sabaton are one of the greatest #storyteller bands out there! I thoroughly enjoy their work.
Thanks a lot for taking this song and your empathic and indepth analysis.
thank you! :) so special Floor showed up
Yes - pity you didn't bother to listen to her
The choir was basically floor jansen from nightwish.
Seeing and hearing this video always brings tears to my eyes.
Thanks so much for covering this song....the SABATON rabbit hole is deep, as you will find out! 👍💖
a interesting thing, they keep turning the carol around a few times, from mournful to happy and back, it's really noticable in the end
Flor is a person who deserves more recognition for her voice. She is amazing.
All Sabaton songs are amazing and epic
all you need to know to understand their song titles is HISTORICAL WARFARE ... amazing music and a history lesson all at once
I just wanted to thank you for your reaction. I don't have much to comment on but I just appreciate your thoughtful intelligent approach to these tough subjects
Thank you! after i discovered Floor Jansen and Nightwish Sabaton came along!
Next time you watch this beautiful movie you will be aware to listen to the beautiful outro!🤪🤪❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sabaton is telling stories of real events or persons, so all their Songs have historical Background
One never paus Floor!
You should check Tommy Johansson, the guitarist in Sabaton.
He have alot of video on UA-cam when he play and sing cover's.
From Disney songs to Elton John and Queen.
sorry, that you stopped the outro. With Floor. We like it very much. A great outro to a great song.
Thanks from sweden on your reaction on Sabaton 😍
You know what the saddest part about this was? The Christmas Truce was initiated by the soldiers on the ground, their high command on both sides didn't sanction it and when they found out they moved the soldiers around to other places along the front because they refused to fight their comrades on the other side. They also expressly forbid interacting with the enemy again because they didn't want anymore truces. If they hadn't expressly done everything in their power to prevent another Christmas Truce scenario, this war may have ended a lot sooner then it did. It just shows that most soldiers in war have no inherent desire to kill each other.
Great reaction on this Swedish band. Thank you!
If you like this you need and realy cant miss Sabaton live in Gothenburg.. with song livstid i krig! A life time in war! Cant explain but its magic! Best regards from sweden
En livistid I Krig for sure with subtitles.
Btw their video productions are off the charts
Of course it's Floor at the end and our thoughts go out to her at the moment. If you can, get a mammogram !!
just saw her news. thank you for bringing that to my attention.
@@rosalieelliottofficial 🤟❤️
Also, you should listen to "En livstid i krig", live from Gothemburg. / Micke P
With subtitles on.
Sabaton has great videos that blow your mind. But be sure to watch until the end so you dont miss something to the story. No bullets fly animated STORY video. Lovely story
10+ albums of Sabatonic Metal to go - History taught with Metal.
Check out the Sabaton History Channel for expansion of the stories behind the music.
stunning music from sweden , my only pride in life thank you sabaton
Here are my recommendations: 40:1, Sparta, White Death, Aces in Exile, 7 Pillars of Wisdom, 82nd all the way, Uprising, Resist and Bite, Ghost Division, Primo Victoria, Steel Commanders, Lost Battalion, Last Dying Breath, Screaming Eagles, Shiroyama, Defense of Moscow, Art of War, the whole War to End All Wars album.
Actually saw their concert in person back in October in Maryland they played this song and I lost my mind and yes they are a swedish historical rock band
Christmas Truce - December 1914 - Sabaton History 107 [Official]
The album was sent during the pandemic and Floor can often be heard in the background. The end credits of this video are also sung by her.
This song was truly something special during the live concert. My favorite song I saw ever got to see live
The two best and most spot on metaphors you used… this song is like a musical steak and his voice is like an oak. So spot on!
Yesss! I'm so happy you know about these modern day bards!
Love Sabaton. Got into them with the first song I heard, Primo Victoria followed by No Bullets Fly around 2016. This song is MY Christmas song. Will not fail to play this Christmas. Will also post on Remembrance Day on the 11th of this month.
You must check out En livstid i krig live from Gothenburg! Great song and powerful lyrics!
