You know when you look back and all the cars Ford Motor Company built they were very innovative this car is absolutely beautiful and is a perfect example of what I'm saying
Nice ride. Ford is the only company that did the retractable hardtop thing, it’s still amazing. A/C and FE engine clinch the functional value, that’s quite the Ford.
The Ford Motor Company had no peer in automatove design and styling ...at least at the time when American cars were distinctively American. Chrysler was next .....then G.M. The fifties engineering of the Sunliner is extraordinary. Les Griffiths greetings from Australia
The Skyliner was not cheap back in the day in 1959. The base price of the Skyliner Retractable with the standard 292 V8 was $3348. When fully loaded with fender skirts, town & country radio, wire styled wheel covers, Cruisomatic, power steering, brakes, windows 4 way bench seat, tinted glass. 352 V8 and air conditioning This car listed at about $5000.00 which was near luxury money back in '59.
Hindsight is great. Can only imagine how much money Ford would have made naming the Edsel lineup Galaxie instead, with T-Bird styling cues and innovative options like the skyliner.
Never thought of that, but you might be right! The public LOVED the Galaxie, so, if it was the Edsel instead of the Ford that had the Thunderbird-like roofline, Edsel might have become a sales winner, and we might today still be able to buy a new Edsel!
for the first 3 months of production these retractables were called Fairlanes but when Ford put the Thunderbird style roof on the Fairlane they were all called Galaxie's and had the Galaxie name badge replace the Fairlane badge. thus the Galaxie as a car was born.
Yup and the Fairlane 500 remained on the trunk lid and dash, making them Fairlane 500-Galaxie-Skyliners. Of course you still had the Fairlane 500 with the different roof and a Fairlane model to go with the Custom 300. Ford got messy trying to catch up with the '58 Impala from Chevrolet. A Galaxie 500 didn't appear until 1962.
I OWNED one of these . color RAVEN BLACK . in 1959 they were voted "the most beautiful car in the world " . mine was stolen when i was living in the US ,IT WENT TO VANCOUVER B.C.
cars had style paint. scheme and interiors and. real steel they built. better then the crap they build now days. what happened to the auto industry and all look like jelly beans
I would pull those chrome fender skirts for a better look. Thankfully nobody hung a continental kit on it. Nice car! Top works quick as it was designed.
Yeah, I test drove one of these, and the way it handled made me think: "I'm sure glad they don't make cars like they used to" But it sure does look great.
In a regular passenger car, COMFORT is more important than handling. Great handling is for SPORTY and SPORTS cars, not cruisers. This car is a CRUISER, not a sports car.
I am curious what that tune is on the start of your video! I can't identify it with either Google Assistant or Shazam! Great video of the Ford hardtop convertible!
Those cars are spectacular 57 58 59 even the 1949 Fords are just amazing just wish there was fuel injection disc brakes and a better coolant system starting with the radiators in those years but if you buy one you can certainly replace them with the updated
You are supposed to keep classic cars STOCK. You can improve the cooling by having the radiator recored with a thicker core. Won't change the looks at all, and on many cars, you can replace the brakes with station wagon or even 1/2 ton pickup brakes. On Fords, you can substitute Lincoln brakes for the stock Ford units. To most people, the car will still look 100% stock, but will have better stopping power, (bigger brakes), and better fade resistance. That's the way we used to improve braking in Hot Rods - bigger brakes. There was no such thing a disks back then.
Why is there a Level Air emblem on the rear? I saw no air compressor, or anything else to show it had Level Air in the past. Looks to need a little detailing under the hood... master cylinder, brake booster and generator look beat up, otherwise a super nice car. Love the colors! Looks like Classic Red Soda paint on the body.
As much as I love the '64 XL interior, it didn't belong here. The '59 top-line interior was the prettiest they made, IMO. Very well done. They ruined this one. The 2 tone dash doesn't work either. It may have looked better in all red but still...Someone bought it though. The Skyliner was an amazing feat of engineering.
my opinion the 59 was the only year the skyliner looked in proportion, they finely get it right and never made them again they did make a retractable mustang in 66 I don't think there are many I'm not sure it ford made them or a custom builder
the 57 58 59 skyliners were a gimmick by ford. the sunliners are rarer and much more practical although they were all great looking cars. trunk space in the skyliners was nearly nonexcistent. and if your gonna have one keep the original engine.
Trunk space in this is actually really good for a retractable hardtop. There's a decent sized luggage area in the center of the trunk that the top fits around.
Very nice Video! those takes from the inside´s passenger seat, left myself trembling. Congratulations for the video and Taste Texas Motor Toys, because this car doesn´t have the Awful Vulgar & Encumbered thing called "Continental Kit"
This is still impressive Ford engineering even after 70 years. Amazing! 💪💪💪
You know when you look back and all the cars Ford Motor Company built they were very innovative this car is absolutely beautiful and is a perfect example of what I'm saying
True artwork in motion awsome automobile I remember seeing a few of these on the road
Love those dual spotlight mirrors. I used to add them to all my model cars back then.
Never really cared for the retractables but the 59 ford's we're absolutely the most handsome and tasteful car of that year.
Nice ride. Ford is the only company that did the retractable hardtop thing, it’s still amazing.
A/C and FE engine clinch the functional value, that’s quite the Ford.
It’s a work of art. Love it!!!!
Nice job Texas Motor Toys! Great car and video.
That's one sharp looking car.
Love that ford v8 sound.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
My late Mother had one exactly like this, but it was green!
The Ford Motor Company had no peer in automatove design and styling ...at least at the time when American cars were distinctively American. Chrysler was next .....then G.M.

esse carro é um projeto maravilhoso. the best!

WORD!
Stop man! I'm drooling on my shirt!
I had a '59 Skyliner Retract like this one in 1980 I paid $1500 for it, very innovative engineering
for the 1950's.
Innovative period, but the concept originated with the Peugeot in the mid 30s.
My 1st car was a 59 FORD TUDOR, powder blue/white, 292, auto,,, in 1966.
Hindsight is great. Can only imagine how much money Ford would have made naming the Edsel lineup Galaxie instead, with T-Bird styling cues and innovative options like the skyliner.

Pięknie się ten dach składa...stara motoryzacja bije te nowe elektroniczne cudaki
Very stylish. Thumbs up.

@@montymatilda That is technically true, but Ford never referred to the 59 Galaxie as a type of Fairlane, 500 or otherwise, just GALAXIE.
I OWNED one of these . color RAVEN BLACK . in 1959 they were voted "the most beautiful car in the world " . mine was stolen when i was living in the US ,IT WENT TO VANCOUVER B.C.

Is that the model with all the extra chrome on it? My neighbor had the same model.
I would pull those chrome fender skirts for a better look. Thankfully nobody hung a continental kit on it. Nice car! Top works quick as it was designed.
Continentals are cheesy and chickenshit. 🤣
How much for a car like this?

My uncle owns on just like the one shown but is a hard top with a rear spare wheel kit

Plymouth car?
They should still offer this option!
The car looks great but I'm sad that some great old XL is missing it's seats.
my opinion the 59 was the only year the skyliner looked in proportion, they finely get it right and never made them again they did make a retractable mustang in 66 I don't think there are many I'm not sure it ford made them or a custom builder
Looks damn nice for being a 60 year old car,
Sharp car
Worth money
Hard to find the car in that condition , in iowa

looks like a 64 Galaxie interior
Yes, it appears to be the XL interior.
Put the original steering wheel back
on!!... although not original I do like the XL interior
I would be concerned about the misalignment of the trim work on both passenger and drivers door. Also the trunk lid misalignment.
i am not concerned at all all those things minor
Go fuck your self!
the spedo was riged 12 mph higher than you are doing.
Swe-e-e-t
SHOW CAR

Thanks for your thoughts. I really liked this old car. It was sold to a young army officer in Oklahoma. Went to a good home.
400M. why put a smog choked engine in there???? mistake
Hey let's see some mid-fifties Chryslers and desoto's DeSoto
Those tail pipes look horrible, surprised since the rest of the car seems to be immaculate.
Seems like an awful lot of moving parts.
Horrible dual exhaust tips...wondering what else went wrong....
