  • A new 35mm film has arrived, in a 800 iso/speed variant, and honestly, the results have been quite impressive. Flic Film "created" Aurora 800, a color negative 35mm film, from what many are thinking a re-spooled Kodak 800 speed film. Regardless what it is, I've been pleasantly surprised with the results that not only I've gotten, but also from others online. Have you shot Aurora 800 on 35mm? What do you think? Do you see yourself using this film in the future? I think for the price, it's quite a good deal, in my opinion.

Im leaning towards whatever kodak puts in the fuji underwater disposables. Looks identical and i know its slightly different than the disposable kodaks

From my experience shooting Aurora 800 and from the examples that I've seen on the internet I think that this is definitely something different than the disposable 800 iso kodak stock, which is almost certainly what Lomo 800 is. I feel like the colors are slightly more pastel than Lomo 800, and it has a lot better exposure latitude than Lomo 800. This is 100% speculation, but I am thinking this may actually be respooled Portra 800. This suspicion has been validated by people like Yvonne Hanson who also thinks this is Portra. My guess is Flic either purchased some bulk rolls that did not meet Kodak's quality control specifications or they put in such a large order with Kodak that Kodak was able to offer them a significant discount. The reason I think they can't be transparent about this is because it would really undercut Kodak's sales to offer the same product at a significantly cheaper price point. But honestly who knows, all I know is that this has quickly become one of my favorite filmstocks for the price point.

The vibrant colours, specially the green, look really really good.

I made a comment on another video about Aurora 800 and a seemingly random account replied to my comment and claimed that they were part of the Flic Film company and said that Aurora 800 was a special derivative made just for Flic Film. Now im taking that comment with 6, or maybe 7 atoms of salt but at the same time i wouldn't be surprised if Flic Film, since they order so much bulk Kodak film, could ask Kodak to change the formulation a little bit (or re-introduce old 800 speed film) and send it to them.
Whatever it is, it doesnt seem like Lomo 800, but i do agree with other that it is QUITE similar to Portra 800.
Also its the closest to 1600 (after push procc) that im going to get without forking $80 a pop for expired Natura 1600.

Yvonne Hanson just posted a great video kind of about this, and while she couldn't say specifically, it's apparently not Funsaver 800... Really love images though!

I took a roll of kodak 800 out of a funsaver and shot it along side this film and I can say it is the exact same film. Also, this won't fit in a bottom loader like a Leica or old canon rangefinder. Pretty much any barnack type camera.

I know what it is! Sadly it wont be produced anymore as kodak alaris found out what is and forbid kodak eastman from selling the stock

Did you just shot it at auto ISO 100? Are you aware that those canisters doesn't have DX code? Thats why you get those overexposed results.
