Very much appreciate your ability to not only coherently review a film stock whilst taking excellent photos (that truly showcase its abilities), but to also capture excellent compositions with the footage you record in service of the review. Props all round
I hate to take away from the Cinestill portion of the video, but the Portra shot of the woman taking a photo of people in front of the lake with the sun beaming on her is PERFECT! She’s taking a photo of other people, and doesn’t even know she’s being captured as the beautiful subject of another photo.
Been following for quite awhile now and must say you definitely inspire me to get out there and shoot more, appreciate these vids along with the knowledge keep inspiring. Love the photos!
Apart from the photos, I appreciate the song choices a lot. We're aware that you know your hip-hop stuff (Larry June, Action Bronson etc), and it reflects in the music you utilize in your videos.
I shoot with 800t often but I recently tried 50d in 120 and adored it tbh 400d is one I just shot recently for the first time too but 50d and 800t take the cake for me
400d is not custom, it's vision3 250D rated at the edge of the latitude to reduce halations. Just like 800t is vision3 500t. My favorite of the vision3 line is 200t for sure.
i totally agree when i want that, kodachrome/old ektachrome films looks i shoot 50D at box speed and push it to ~80SIO, sometimes i will shoot it at 64. BTW many pros of that time who were using slides overexposed by a bit intentionally especially Kodachrome, for a certain time it was actually cool to expose your slides at +2/3 above the box speed so yeah.
Nice one man looks like a fun trip & a great idea for a video testing the various cinestill films. Have shot a few rolls of 400D and 800T but keen to give the 50D a go after seeing your results.
Ugh, 800T at night is truly amazing. You can also use the film in sunlight, to also avoid halation (during sunlight) I always set my iso at 400. The photos just come out 🤌🏽
I have family who live alone the 395 and routinely go out there. There’s a surprising amount of things to shoot despite being mostly desert and “empty”
i was photographing sand harbor that same weekend, absolutely blows my mind to see these pictures lmao the inspiration is going off the charts right now!
This video couldn't have come at a better time. I have some 400D and I was debating loading it or not. I think I'll wait for when i go to an urban area to use it... it seems like Cinestill just thrives in urban areas and especially in the evening.
Nice. Back in the day (70s thru 00s), I did some night photography, always on Tri-X. Then came digital, and I went full on night photography! After over 20 years of digital only, I’m back to shooting film, mainly on my mamiya 6. The 800T is intriguing, and your night work is inspiring. Thank you for another terrific video. And, btw, why didn’t you take your Porsche on this trip? 😊
Hi Willem, love your videos super stuff ! When shooting the 50D this is a silly question… but what f stop did you use ? Shutter speed etc ! I thought you nailed it with the ice cream guy love that photo ! Thanks you Keep on shooting on ! All the best Tommy !
Happy birthday Willem! In the next video or in a comment here, can you tell us how you carry the CL with the strap? Bought one myself and can’t figure out a comfortable way myself 😅
I had no idea it was that beautiful out there. Wonderful Lake shots. That turquoise water 😮. Heavenly. I mostly shoot B&W, I think I will pick up some of that film. Wow. What Voightlander lens is that ?
I had no idea it was that beautiful out there. Wonderful Lake shots. That turquoise water 😮. Heavenly. I mostly shoot B&W, I think I will pick up some of that film. Wow. What Voightlander lens is that ? How did you meter for the 800T and the night shots ?
Willem, after 20 years, Pentax actually launched a new film machine Pentax 17,which is a half-frame, can you make a video with your impressions when you find a time?
I recently opened my Nikon FA right after finishing a roll and forgot to wind it back in for the first time. I shut it so fast I only ended up losing 3 maybe 4 frames. It was scary though lol
I liked your photos. Love the hotels and the night photos. I do not understand why some film photographers do not like very saturated film or halation. Kodak Ektar is my favorite film because of the saturation. The reason I schoot film is because of the quirks and unpredictability.
I currently have the Sony a6300 and I’m in doubt of upgrading to the Sony a7ii, the specs are almost the same but still have a feeling the a7ii will be better, is this worth it?
Nah, it's outdated, and known for having issues, better look for a7iii, or a6700 if you want compact cam, for now the only one that worth something is s7sii, it's night power in still strong
Hello, I also love using cinestill films and I thought your video was great! I just had a question, what's that gear you use before taking pictures? I know it's for measuring the lights before taking pics, seen a lot of ppl use it but I just don't know what it's called. Glad if u can tell me plz🙏
I'm a huge fan of Kodak 5222 bw which is what Cinestill bw xx is. I'm disappointed you didn't have anything to say about it. I love it. It's my favorite film.
Hey Willem, awesome video! Did you use a light meter for the shots during the day? Just curious because I have the same setup we're using and I usually go with the sunny 16. Peace!
I don't think that cinestill 50D colour not that bad its have a warm character than portra films and 400D one of the best film for night aesthetic. its night blue garins are awsome for night photography.
There’s a chance you might have had some pictures left in the first part of the film. You should have closed the camera and rewound it. Had this happen once and saved photos. Always check rewind and it there’s tension then you have film in the camera.
You might want to check Mighty Car Mods a video they did of a Toyta if im not mistaken, they used a box that enables the touch screen on those older cwra to work with carplay and android. (Im saying this because of the jbl on the dashboard)
Since Cinestill 50D is Vision3 50D, and 400D is really 250D, and 800T is really 500D; couldn’t you also just arbitrarily call 50D “Cinestill 100D” and shoot it at100 ISO? Would pushing it have a similar effect on saturation that is seemingly does on the 400D and 800T?
bro dropped a video on his birthday. love you king, happy birthday goat!!
Unironically love y’all’s friendship 🙌

The joys of film photography. Losing a roll is a killer
Willem I'm from Cape Cod and just got into film thanks to you and other creators! Appreciate all you do man.
17:54 definitely the best shots of the vid. Those star shaped lens flare so SO GOOD
Cinestill Paradise Oh yessss, the moment you open the film camera sees the Portra, closes the lid....thats a classic.
Haha we’ve all been there
How did that even happen? Did he just forget he had a roll in there already?
I think the 50D looks awesome. It has the right amount of contrast for me and colors are just right. I might go buy some.
yh i think its normal for 35mm film to be abit saturated. only portra 160/400 that ive found to be abit warm soft compared to others
I rent all of these just Kodak vision 3 ? With remjet removed
Check your bank account first 😬
@@vxscarrthat’s the theory, apart from 400D I think cinestill said that’s the first film that’s their own formula
@@lachlanchester8142It's clearly Vision3 250D the colours are identical
1:34 everyone's collective heart stops at this moment
I did that w my very first roll🥲
@@sammypierrecollections me too :). but only 2 pictures were gone! but here, i dont know. it seemed a bit scripted to me ;).
funny seeing you here
the way you cut the music at 1:36 really cracked me up
Wow, I was wondering if I should take Cinestill 400D on my upcoming trip to Italy and then this video appeared. Perfect timing indeed!
Love to see such a beautiful perspective of the lake I grew up and spent most of my summers in 🏔️

I need UA-cam to catch on with the way you can use music on Tiktok, Reels etc. This is as good as it gets copyright free haha
Oh man, I love the 395! Such a beautiful drive up to the mountains
Not "The".
I shoot with 800t often but I recently tried 50d in 120 and adored it tbh
400d is one I just shot recently for the first time too but 50d and 800t take the cake for me
the neutral colors of 400d are amazing when combined with that halation
What an amazing landscape holy f. great shots Willem !
400d is not custom, it's vision3 250D rated at the edge of the latitude to reduce halations. Just like 800t is vision3 500t.
My favorite of the vision3 line is 200t for sure.
Getting 80s sci fi art from those first few snaps with the 800t!
Love the sky color on the 400
I actually like the 50D colors they kinda seem closer to vintage slide film colors which seem hard to find these days

loved this one boys!
Scanned my 50D with Opticfilm 120, my scans have less of the yellow tone and contrast. Maybe it’s because I shot it at 25 too.
