- MUST VISIT IN MALAYSIA!
On this vlog, we visited the hidden treasure of Rantau Abang and Marang.
We had a lot of fun visiting the fishermen village where we met some local ladies selling some pisang goreng and teh beng. They were hilarious and loved seeing Steve trying their food.
We also visited a melaluca forest, a turtle legendary rock, and a coconut plantation where we learned how to make nisan (gula melaka or coconut sugar) and air nira!
We had an amazing time exploring the off of beaten path of Terengganu, Malaysia.

Alhamdulillah. Semenjak PAS memerintah Terengganu ni, Negeri terengganu khusus nya dan kampung kampung pun dah bersih dan kemas. Sejuk mata memandang. Saya harap Rakyat Terengganu teruskan lah dan sentiasa menjaga kebersihan kawasan sekitar seperti laman Rumah dan kedai dan bahu jalan dan pantai pantai sentiasa bersih.

Thanks!! And thanks for watching!
My husband's hometown. The stall that you visited at minute 4 of the video belongs to my mother-in-law and her sister. They sell the best Teh Peng(Iced Milk Tea)! They also sell homemade keropok lekor(made from fish, flour and sagu), pisang goreng(banana fritters), fried chicken, fried sausages, nuggets and sometimes ikan celup tepung(fish dipped in the same batter used for the banana fritters and then is deep fried). Ahh talking about all of these foods is making me super hungry! Going there now. 😄
Wow, awesome! Thanks for watching and commenting
@@JetLagWarriors thanks for taking time to reply. I enjoy watching your videos!
Drone shots, editing and information as always, the best!!! I think both of you love the village lifestyle. Keep safe and healthy.
"Homemade root beer in africa most interesting man ever lived!" I laughed watching this part🤣
In Malaysia its called toddy, popular drink among some Malaysian Indian community. Nowadays it become less available because of dwindling coconut plantations.
@@mojaff3085 thats good observation! Remember seeing a thumbnail by Ken. Amd ofcourse we have tapai too
I used to picnic there in 1984-1990 with my family n friends..so nice..but now i stay in Kerteh... quite far from my house n yet my children already go to University..no body at home except this MCO time..
Kerja oil & gas ke puan?
30 plus years ago I was schooling near the place tht you're shooting. My school is call Sekolah Menengah Sains Dungun. Its a boarding school and its situated just near the beach. Every day we can hear sounds of the waves. Terengganu is still in my heart till now. TQ Saiful for making me remembers all the sweet memories during school days.....

D wooden doorway entrance to Terradala is really gorgeous.
Hey!, Steve and Ivana...the more you guys explore more places I get to enjoy more at home watching through your video...knowledgable too when you guys describe each spot visited.good job👍
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching as always Karen 😀
D drone shots of d beach areas n d coconut trees r absolutely marvelous.
Thanks Yasin
Never failed to amaze your audience. Good job Steve & Ivana for recording this "making nisan" and air nira as a good reference for future generation.
cantiknya terengganu...
Watermelon with rice is so local! My favourite is ikan singgang with watermelon. Im proud with nisan terengganu. They are the best. My mom wont even use other nisan for her cooking. Thank you for the great video!
Really? Omg. Sorry steve.
Actually, the correct way to eat the watermelon is to eat the rice with chicken curry first, and then only bite into the water melon and back and forth. Somehow, they just go great together but not the way Steve ate them. Eating them with hand elevates the taste better, with spoon the taste elevation will be greatly lost because curry just tastes much better when you hand mix the gravy with the rice.
23:28 Nira is sweet when it is very fresh (still Halal) and the fermentation process starts quite fast.
Once fermented, it transforms into Toddy with 4% alcohol (becomes non Halal), like what @Ken_Abroad had in Johor Baru 😆
Enjoys the simplecity of life in malaysia
My nanny also make the gula melaka and i used to help her sometimes. You know the crust of the gula melaka is tasty when u mix it with some flour and egg. It turns into yummy candy. Simple but enjoyable. What a childhood memory 😁
Thanks for bringing us to terengganu too....bless for both of you
my hometown, thank you for your video, there will be another time bro😘 rantau abang
Woah, a knowledgeable and informative vlog...very interesting and you guys gave a very clear explanation on the sites/places visited...l saw a lot and l learned a lot from "travelling" around with you both... "terima kasih"
Beautiful drone shots and the part on how gula melaka was made was amazing.
On the road to 40K subscibers very soon...well done guys !!! 💞💞
Omg... I miss kampung terengganu vibe...
Being local we hv not seen n been to places/kampungs that you n Ivana hv gone. Tks so much for the videos. Awesome guys.

Thanks, we are glad you enjoy!! That’s why we use the slogan: ‘Travel with us!’ when we promote subscriptions! Thanks again
You are right when you say there is alot to do in kampung. Villagers love it when you want to do what they do. Since it shows work ethic. Thats why the nisa lady love it when you helped her. Good job
Nisan, gula melaka, palm sugar, u guys used this before for making d onde onde, remember, in Min House Camp.
Subscribing. Simply cuz i love u guys and waiting for your videos in Sarawak soon. Cheers

Travelling n learning...that's worth it. Most people especially asians go travelling for shopping. I really enjoyed the way locals have the traditional n classic way of doing things which I never saw myself. Thnx to you n Ivana... travel grammers...owner...n local producer of nira n gula melaka. Your vlogs always kept me in awe as I'm not a keen adventurer.
i like your travel vlog because it is full of informations..even I as Malaysian never explore most of the places especially the villages area..
thanks to both of you..feels like I'm travelling with you just by watching all the vlog..
Thanks for “travelling” with us!
In Terengganu we call watermelon as 'timun cina'. That's why some Terengganu people eat watermelon with rice as vegetable or 'ulam'.
Cockadoodledoo in malay kokok or berkokok. Loved your video..the view of plantation from above is real breathtaking
You and Ivana said the coconut sugar would go well with coffee, well guess what, in Kemaman theres a cafe named Bolock Coffee which serves a coffee with real coconut sugar! It is soooo tasty 😋
What an amazing experience!
love the cinematic b roll at the beginning.... planning to go east coast in december for couple of days as soon as this MCO is over in Klang valley.
Thanks! Have a great trip

love you guys so much.. so much love💕💕💕
guys...welcome to my hometown...
In terengganu we called Gula Melaka as "Nnissang" shortened from word of MaNisan+g from word Manis = sweet, the ring we called "Kerek" is from daun mengkuang same materials as traditional mat. the mat for base of hot liquidy nisang been poured on ring. So, Nnissang Kerek it is.
Owh. Ingatkan diorang buat batu nisan
I bet later, steve & ivana will start to speak in terengganu dialect. That's cool... 😎👍
Missing my hometown, marang really bad now..
Haha! Terengganu is great :)
@@JetLagWarriors glad you guys have fun there... Stay safe!
10:07 I thought of “Ninja Turtle” when you said that lol
I love and enjoy this journey Steve & Ivana. Amazing drone shots. Beautiful beach and kampung. Nice people everywhere. Gula Melaka was skillfully made by a kampung boy named Saiful..haha 😂

Welcome to terengganu bro 😍
Thanks!
More video like this please, good to watch and good info.
the lady making the rings has one unique malay trait, called "latah'.....automatic funny sound when startled.
Only in malaysia .. opocot ... hahahahaha
Fantastic intro. I feel like I'm watching some artistic indie movie. Great episode!
Very nice scenery of the trees grow in the water. It is very very beatiful steve even you say it alittle bit eiry
Yes! Beautiful, but at night may be a little eerie lol
It's not always in water.. only during high tide.
When it's low tide, even more beautiful as you can walk in the "wonderland". Just be careful with snakes.
Mr Chris knows the sedap jargon superwell! 😋
Dude... jagung (corn) pit stop of terengganu is next to kampung jambu bongkok. You can see tons of road side stalls selling grilled corns, boiled corns, special corn drink, etc. But let me tell you a secret... most people still think they plant their own corns, but the villagers figure out its cheaper to import corns from Cameron Highland, Kelantan or Thailand... 🤣. Anyway, they also have other interesting things like windmills, seabass fish farm on land, few chalets with swimming pool, etc.
Bongkok = Hunchback, like Notredame...:-D
great job.... steve n ivana
The Batu Pelanduk there used to be my place during fly from hostel in those days..haha..ny boarding school is 1km from there only.
Nice photos travel vid
Very nice !! Sedap2 means take another one, lol !
Right! Now I know that I will be sure to go back for more whenever I say sedap 😊
3:17 we mimic the chicken noise as in "pokpokpokpok" 😂😂
Fascinating.... good editing, keep it up.....oh and enjoy!🤗
i love how you guys explore many places in the village. Loveee how you willing to learn some of our culture. It makes me always want to watch your videos. Thumbs up !
Thanks!!!
Steve pandai! Learns very fast!
Someone in Indonesia once told me that bald means clever 😂😂
@@JetLagWarriors seriously, you are clever Steve. Guys who play Chess are smart. They think one step ahead and quick in making right decisions. I see this in you!
There is a special dessert in terengganu known as tapai ubi, fermented tapioca. It has the same alcoholic punch as pulut tapai but it has different texture and taste. It is a very delicacy now, i think you should try.
Like your drone shot opening 👍🏻
Thanks!!
Love from pahang
Today video is awesome....U got a story & Long duration👍
Welcome to my hometown..
Cool
You make me miss my hometown more during this PKPB 😭
When you leave nira for fragmentation, it becomes alcoholic beverage. Take a look at your friend's Ken in JB had todi. Come from nira sap too.

Yes, Ken with Jumi and Greg.

By the way, you guys are almost 40K already. Who’d have thought! 👍🏻👍🏻
Amazing, right?! 40K sounds like such a big number to us. We are really grateful for all of our subscribers. ❤
@@JetLagWarriors it's astounding like the crowd in the TFC stadium! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hahaha abih “riak” Makcik tu 🤣🤣
Nira when freshly take became a drink. After half day, it cannot be drink as its become sour. fermented it for a few day it become alcohol, we call it Tuak. And if you fermented it for more than a moth (if not mistaken, 40days or more), it become cuka or vinegar. A cooked Nira become Nisan
When it’s come very manis with ice we let ice melted first then we stirred up so it won’t became too sweet
Ooh good idea
13.30 maybe your first "latah" encounter with the local Malaysian makcik 😁
Latah only malay and Inuit Eskimo had it
13:30
fast but gentle
RICE WITH WATERMELON...ohh you guys like a malaysian😂
Hee hee!! We get more Malaysian every day lol.
Of course you put them together on the same plate. But still, you should eat it after you finished the rice and chicken.
@@awigta4 that's what i thought as well. lol.
They make me hungry 🤤
im not sure if thats the proper way to eat. usually we eat the rice n chicken curry, then we finish off with the watermelon as a desert.. maybe im from the city.. betul ke u gaul tembikai tu? pelik benor
21:27 - Great minds think alike. 😊
Do you prefer city life or kampung life?
Preferably kampung for the calming effect and city for the shopping, I guess
Kampung lah best steve
kampung life, with the convinience of fast internet and good delivery service for online shopping =)
City when I'm younger for works and such, and kampung when I'm old, it's such quite and peaceful there, the best way to spend the rest of your life in
Prefer kampung life..it is holiday everday..cant wait for cmco to be over..we are stuck at home again..yeah watermalon with rice .common in Kelantan too especially among the older generation
