I think it's a good movie until you read the book. I don't mean to sound like a snob, but the story of the novel is completely different, with a lot more humanity and realism than one would expect.
I think the most important themes from the book were cut out! The plague, the fact that he's running for his wife and kids, the fact he has to hide like a fugitive in the REAL WORLD outside! Also, HE CRASHED A MOTHERFUCKING BLIMP INTO THE TELEVISION BUILDING IN THE END! Sorry, it's just a completely different story.
The trailer music is "Combat Drop" by James Horner, from the Aliens soundtrack. It was not used in either version of the film (theatrical or Special Edition).
The movie that inspired the creation of Williams/Midway arcade game "Smash TV". Both the movie "Running Man" and the video game, "Smash TV" deal with competing on a violent game show.
This happens way more than I think a lot of you are aware of. Most concepts for modern books are based off of older material. It doesn't make one better of worse, it just makes it different. Quite frankly, I like The Hunger Games, Running Man, Battle Royale, and Lord of the Flies... they are all fantastic! but so very different. It's all a matter of perception and opinions.
Hunger Game took its idea from Battle Royale (I meant the whole thing).... And Battle Royale took its idea from The Running Man.... Nothing is original !
+Oscar Jimenez According the facts you presented, The Running Man seems to be the original idea thus making something original and falsifying your conclusion
+Oscar Jimenez I don't think Battle Royale took the idea from this film, the idea's quite different. 'The Running Man STOLE this idea from gladiatorial combat, the Roman empire is NOT going to be pleased'
Right! And Running Man is based on a Novel by Stephen King and the Novel is inspired by the german Film "Das Millionenspiel" (The Milliongame) from 1970! It´s not that actionpacked like Running Man or Battle Royale but that´s the ultimate Original ;)
I'm sure a lot of people are here because they saw so&so say "The Hunger Games ripped off The Running Man" in such&such post. This vid probably doubled in views in the past week. I'm just glad attention is being drawn to this fantastic book. Hopefully many will read it now, because it didn't get nearly the audience it deserved 25 years ago. I liked the film too. It isn't all just action & campy dialog as this trailer suggests. I like the atmosphere, & Richard Dawson is fantastic as Killian!
Yep, and I think Die Hard also used Aliens music in it's trailer as well, it certainly used one of the tracks in the film. James Horner's score for Aliens is still one of the best written for an action film and sci-fi film. Much more interesting than Alien 3's score.
Oh that freaking horn alarm thing. The only time they parodied that & it worked was on the 'Despicable Me 2' TV spot & that should have told the audience "This horn MWWAAH sound is annoying, quit it."
AWESOME MOVIE!!! i just watched it for the first time since i was a kid last night!! Great social satire blended with 80's action and Arnold in his prime with great one liners as in all of his films.
I was just going to say that. They should remake this in faith to the book starring someone like Jeremy Renner. I feel that he as an actor could encompass Ben Richards' volatile and yet honest personality.
I'm reading the book, and wanted to watch the movie yesterday. I saw 2 minutes and thought: What is this shit!!? The book is way better than this movie. The movie is shit, if you read the book ....
I was 8 years old in 1987, I can remember as a very young man reading the opening crawl and laughing thinking something like a Police state could never happen.....In 2015, I am not laughing anymore!! Society is getting closer to how it is depicted in this film this film. "Dawson line about the big quake of 97" might as well have been 9/11. The only difference is in this film prisoners have no rights.
1980-Flash Gordon 1981-Raiders of the Lost Ark 1982-Rockey III 1983-Return of the Jedi 1984-The Terminator 1985-Commando 1986-Highlander 1987-The Running Man 1988-Twins 1989-Star Trek V The Final Frontier my favoret Action Movies of the 80s'
"The hell with you, I will not fire on helpess people", "DId you see that? Buzzaw touched me" , used to watch this freaking thing 3 times a week when I was 13 back in 89,lol
@d3trooper ... and the sadest part is that so many people who lost everything and have nothing anymore to loose but simply waits for us to react, protect them, this immense majority of people are always forgotten in middle of all the great theories. The beauty of living Gandhis are so seldom saluted, and at the same time, they arrest, torture, break simple beautiful people trying to pass a message of peace...
i COMPLETELY agree just seeing my name on youtube tells you how much i loved this book and another thing to add to your list Ben Richards wasnt forced to go to FreeVee he wanted to because he wanted to help his daughter with influenza
Einer meiner Lieblingsfilme mit arni 😎 Coole Sprüche, coole Action, cooler unkaputtbarer Held💪 Und natürlich die Gesellschaftskritik (Leute vor der glotze erziehen, usw...)
1987: Civilization has advanced capitol punishment. Criminals are punished by being forced into a deadly game show competition. 2017: If OJ didn't do it, he had someone help him...but I'm still not sure...🤷🏾♂️🤔
I think it is also important to remember a remake would make the problem of "hiding" even more troublesome today. There are cameras and ATM machines everywhere Evan MaCohne and the hunters could use to track down Richards even faster than they do in the book. What about digital data distribution, the book was one of its time, written within the tech limitations S.K. was cognizant of. Written today, the book may have been very different.
Folks. No need to wait for 2017. It's here now. Don't you see the parallel between the FED and the running man's show. The FED keeps printing money since 2008 to its buddies; meanwhile maintaining this mirage in the stock market.
@DC Wilson well they did depict a future where TV is loaded with reality shows. Also Arnie booked a Holiday online, something that was unthinkable then.
You heard it from me first. If they remake this movie, it would be huge. Have Killian played by either Steve Harvey or Regis Philbin, and Ben Richards by The Rock.
This movie is totally under-rated on IMDb! I just watched it and it was just fugg'n AWESOME, pure genius! Arnie is a total stalker-killer! Brilliant movie!! I think this is one of the very best after Arnie's Total Recall!! This is so much more fun than Commando or Eraser, althought they were GREAT too! This should have got awards ;D!
I'm not a huge fan of Bruce Lee but I have a lot of respect for the man. He's real smart and if lived longer than he did he would of done alot more great things. Like his unfinished movie called The Game of Death and the only completed 45 of it was in my eyes the best work he ever did. He wrote starred ,did chirography , and starred in it. I like Jackie hes cool too, but he'll only be able to live in Bruce's shadow but that's a compliment more or less.
Cute... the music used for the trailer was James Horner's score for "Brainstorm", starring Christopher Walken, Natalie Wood (who sadly died during the production of it) and Louise Fletcher.
I do wonder what will finally end the reign of Reality Television. I fear someone on Fear Factor, Survivor, or one of the few on Cable will have to wind up dead before anyone on the networks realizes they've gone too far. Meanwhile, I meant to post this here sooner. RIP, Richard Dawson.
I read the book about 2 years ago, and I'd say that it's Stephen King's best work, and I used to read a lot of his stories. Sure the movie is very different, but it's still good in it's own way.
At least it's much closer to the actual 2019 than Blade Runner. There is not one single flying car in the movie just like today. Also it predicted online shopping and Amazon Echo. There is nothing in the movie we don't have in the actual 2019.
I love this movie, incredible fun with a game show having special characters with special weapons and cheesy dark humour. Like a mix of a movie and video game.
It's a shame how Richard had to be a bad guy in this movie. In a real Family Feud episode he told the Miss Universe ladies "We're going to make that $5000" towards their UNICEF charity. That was so sweet.
There's a difference. West Side Story was specifically written to model a modern-day version of Romeo and Juliet. That is way different than taking another story, changing it a bit, and passing it off as your own. Plus, zombie movies are a very broad genre. This plot was very specific and way too similar to The Hunger Games.
This movie is so much better than The Hunger Games.
I think it's a good movie until you read the book. I don't mean to sound like a snob, but the story of the novel is completely different, with a lot more humanity and realism than one would expect.
Willem Cohen I've read the book, I enjoyed it. Arnie said some important themes were cut when their first Director was fired.
I agree
Willem Cohen And now I'm interested in the book ;)
...back when trailers described movies and you understood what was marketed
hi
0:21 - I'll be back. REALLY?
only in a re-run
really. "I told killian id be back...i wouldnt want to be a liar"
theRunningMan-theRunningMan
Right I only want him using that line in terminator films 😂😂😂
Back then it was funny, but now this phrase is overused in Arnold movies
Wow this is happening next year can't wait
It may happen if donald thrump wins
+Jérémie Vaillancourt more like Hilary. #MeltTheWitch
+polystrate1 are you shure?
Jérémie Vaillancourt Hilary is much more evil than Trump can even dream to be
+polystrate1 Why? Do you have any evidences? Personally, I dont want either of them winning.
Interesting documentary.
Yet 3 years ago, could you really predict just how interesting!!
this movie is becoming more and more of a reality follow by every other movie in it's class
The trailer music is "Combat Drop" by James Horner, from the Aliens soundtrack. It was not used in either version of the film (theatrical or Special Edition).
The movie that inspired the creation of Williams/Midway arcade game "Smash TV". Both the movie "Running Man" and the video game, "Smash TV" deal with competing on a violent game show.
i think the movie was first and smash tv is based off that and then they made the grid wich is like a 3d remake of smash tv

95Grumple and the romans took from the Greeks who stole from asia
Wow, I can see all 6 pixels!
+Random Guy From Texas Good thing I didn't pay anything for this, and I'm not even whining
So 2017 the world economy collapsed. Talk about prodictive programming.
And yet, here we are, richer than ever.
Except we are all poorer now.
No Cucks In Kekistan poorer than when exactly?
Mads Skipper than anyone in 1950 to 1980
*"Hey! Killian! Here, Sub Zero! Now...Plain Zero!!"*
Love this movie always on TV on a Thursday evening lol
It's scary, how this movie predicted 2017 almost perfectly.
This should be made into a video-game.
Speaking of games this made me think of Smash Tv for the snes although I think this came first.
i'm a teen boy and since the first time i watched this movie i just felt the must to have John Parr's song in my ipod. it's just e p i c
I can't wait when this show comes on in the year 2017! What channel will it be on?
I really do miss 80's movie and especially their trailers.
They used the soundtack from 'Aliens' on this trailer.
Yep, and I think Die Hard also used Aliens music in it's trailer as well, it certainly used one of the tracks in the film.
James Horner's score for Aliens is still one of the best written for an action film and sci-fi film. Much more interesting than Alien 3's score.
Just like all trailers use the MWAAAHH sound today.
0:30 - What is the Music from Aliens doing here???
looking forward to this in 8 months
This trailer voiced by Optimus Prime himself Peter Cullen, a legend in trailer voices and one of those legends
And to think, we only have 7 years until this happens! Thank you 1980's foresight!
I was just going to say that.
They should remake this in faith to the book starring someone like Jeremy Renner. I feel that he as an actor could encompass Ben Richards' volatile and yet honest personality.
still love this movie!!!!!
I totally remember this movie. In fact, I saw this movie in theatres when it first came out.
The tone of the trailer and the music used from Aliens makes this film feel like it would be so much more fitting if it came out now.
Next year? Can I get a hell yeah!!?
wrath231 Next year is also the 30th anniversary of this movie!
That's... not what I read in Stephen King's book... and Schwartzenegger??
I'm reading the book, and wanted to watch the movie yesterday. I saw 2 minutes and thought: What is this shit!!?
The book is way better than this movie. The movie is shit, if you read the book ....
naitomea14 the films awesome
I was 8 years old in 1987, I can remember as a very young man reading the opening crawl and laughing thinking something like a Police state could never happen.....In 2015, I am not laughing anymore!! Richard Dawson will not live to see the real 2017
Are they still receiving applications for this 😂 24.1.10
R.I.P. Richard Dawson...you rocked as Killian! ;-)
*reads description* OH MY GOD THIS IS A DOCUMENTARY
"The hell with you, I will not fire on helpess people", "DId you see that? Buzzaw touched me" , used to watch this freaking thing 3 times a week when I was 13 back in 89,lol
Girl: "What happened to Buzzsaw?" Arnold: "He had to split."
Coincidence....I am watching this in 2017
just looked this up because its almost exactly the same!
In the year 2017!
In which channel can I find this game show?
i like how this trailer has music from the Aliens and a quote from the terminator
I remember watching this movie when I was a kid and it was damn awesome. This makes Hunger Games look like an even sissier version of Sesame Street.
In 2017 good men don't run for president. They run for their lives.
Super Smash TV ripped this off!
RIP Dawson..."Who loves you...and who do you love!!?!"
Original hunger games
no it's not. Hunger games are based on books
No shit. I thought they are based on what people write on walls in public bathrooms
+PoeticParadox well you were wrong
And Suzanne Collins based those books on... this Ahnold movie.
Books came much after the movie, duuuh....
@d3trooper ... and the sadest part is that so many people who lost everything and have nothing anymore to loose but simply waits for us to react, protect them, this immense majority of people are always forgotten in middle of all the great theories. Timeless movie. Typical "out the box" Stephen King. And Arnie is always great entertainment.
Hey! Did you guys catch that latest episode of the Running Man last year??! I hear they're renewing it with a new tribute this year in August!
"The year is 2017."
Just four more years, guys, get on this!
When he says ill be back and the host says "only in a re-run"... i thought that was great. Only time ever i heard his motto mocked.
i COMPLETELY agree
just seeing my name on youtube tells you how much i loved this book
and another thing to add to your list
Ben Richards wasnt forced to go to FreeVee
he wanted to because he wanted to help his daughter with influenza

i miss over the top 80's action movies
'it was the freshest move i'd ever seen..like he was walkin on air...'
a movie ahead of time before all tv realities
Folks. No need to wait for 2017. It's here now. Don't you see the parallel between the FED and the running man's show. The FED keeps printing money since 2008 to its buddies; meanwhile maintaining this mirage in the stock market.
This movie was way beyond its time....
this needs to be remade, but faithful to the storyline.
@DC Wilson well they did depict a future where TV is loaded with reality shows. Also Arnie booked a Holiday online, something that was unthinkable then.
So, its 2017, what channel is this on?
can anyone tell me what that piece of music on the titles is
Does he say "I'll be back!" in every single movie he is in? My god.
You heard it from me first. If they remake this movie, it would be huge. Have Killian played by either Steve Harvey or Regis Philbin, and Ben Richards by The Rock.
Love armies line "need a lift"
whos watching in 2017
r u ready for pain, r u ready for suffering, if the answer is yes, then ur ready for captain freedoms workout. LOL
Good movie
looks like 2010's will basically be 1980's with voice activated appliances and jetpacks!
The sad thing is how close we are to this actually happening.
i trying to get hold of the song when there escaping from prison but cant find it any where :(
2017!!??? thats seven years from now!! I can't wait!!!
"Hard time or prime time"
Legendary!
Who's watching in 2017?
we only got 4 years left, I have got to prepare myself.
I'm not a huge fan of Bruce Lee but I have a lot of respect for the man. He's real smart and if lived longer than he did he would of done alot more great things. Which pixel is Arnold?
I just watch the full movie in 2018. OF course i did watch the full movie in 1987 when I was a kid.
Haha, I love his 1-liners, usually after he killed one of the stalker
I thought I was the only one who noticed! Right on!
I told you I would be back and I wouldn't want to be a lie!
Great fil another Arnold classic!
"Hey Killian this use to be sub- zero NOW......... he's just plain ZERO!!!!!" - Arnold
And this movie marked 2017 when it all be happening...
This is 80's cheese at it's finest, and I don't mean that in a bad way.
"Need a lift?"
That'll never get old.
Tomorrow it’s 2019 and there ain’t no show like this
At least it's much closer to the actual 2019 than Blade Runner. There is not one single flying car in the movie just like today. Also it predicted online shopping and Amazon Echo. There is nothing in the movie we don't have in the actual 2019.
Patrick Lange
Umm well tbh I haven’t seen this movie and Ik I really should
I love this movie, incredible fun with a game show having special characters with special weapons and cheesy dark humour. Like a mix of a movie and video game.
America's Running Man >>> South Korea's Running Man
It's a shame how Richard had to be a bad guy in this movie. In a real Family Feud episode he told the Miss Universe ladies "We're going to make that $5000" towards their UNICEF charity. That was so sweet.

Hang on a minute. Isn't the opening music the same used in "Aliens" for the USMC??
Wow. And we thought 2001 was the future😂
